Happy Day, WR!  May you have lots to eat of your favorite foods -- cake, ice cream, carrots or something else!  Wink

So, WR, is it really your birthday?  My mom used to make me a birthday cake using a rabbit-shaped cake mold.  I don't suppose that would be a good idea, though... eating a rabbit cake.  Doesn't matter anyway, 'cause a certain relative of mine has already claimed the rabbit cake mold and had a mini-tantrum when I pointed out that I had first-hand recollection of its use and hers was just word-of-mouth.  <sigh>

I am feeling really b*tchy lately, for which I apologize.  (Have I been apologizing a lot, lately?  Seems like it.)  I've posted some comments I probably wouldn't have made if I'd been in a more conciliatory mood.

I should be happy.  We spent all of last week and this past weekend on our boat, which was finally repaired after being crunched in last year's tornado.  (The anniversary of that horrific day is this coming Friday -- the 27th -- as we've been reminded in every newspaper and on every TV news show.  Some people in my state will never forget that date, much as they wish they could.)  Anyway, the repairs seem to be finished, although we're not too happy with some of the workmanship.  We ought to be happy, of course, that it wasn't a house, or a life, being repaired.  That type of damage takes much longer to heal.

Blah blah blah.  Had my 4-year checkup with my med onco yesterday.   All is well, she says; but deep inside I keep waiting to hear the other shoe drop.  I have never been this pessimistic in my life.  It's as if my whole sense of self-confidence was turned upside down, and it still hasn't recovered.  One of my chemo sisters sent each of us a really cute and appropriate gift, though -- it's one of those angel figures, and she's holding a shovel.  It's supposed to be "Angel of the Garden," but we're all calling it the "shovel-wielding angel" and holding it in reserve in case one of us needs to have something buried because some things just don't burn completely.

My onco did say she is thinking she will recommend I stop taking Arimidex after my 5th year, which will be about 15 months from now.  She said getting lots of exercise and exchanging some of my post-menopause pounds for muscle will provide as much benefit as staying on an AI after 5 years, at least for me (Stage I yadda yadda yadda).

Hugs to all, and happy BD to WR.

otter, if you are referring to your post about the Brita filters - I see nothing wrong with it - I agree 100 percent. It is a suspect post. Sorry that you feel so down!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, special carrot good wishes, WR.

I just posted this in the "Complementary Forum" - but in case you guys know the answer: HELP.

"Help.  My vitamin D blood levels are DROPPING - down from 35 to 26 in 5 months, and that is taking, get ready for it, 6,000ius of Vitamin D3 DAILY.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I just can NOT get the Vitamin D blood level up.

In my 5th year of Arimidex, bone density tests have always been very good.

Symptoms, except being very worried, I am more tired than usual, low energy, and FEAR something is wrong."

    ARE WE HAVING FUN YET???????????

Oh dear Sun - wish I could help. I'd call your Pcp first though. It could be anything.

Athena - I just got the results email - and of course, they are called "normal" - NOT.  I miss it when docs actually picked up the phone and SPOKE to patents.  Most worrisome is the DROP taking so much Vitamin D3 - where the H is it going????  Ah, well....wait, hurry, wait - til tomorrow.

Sun - Have you started taking anything new recently?  Changed your diet?  How are your calcium levels?  Maybe you've depleted your vit D stores over the winter?

The fatigue and low energy could also be caused by the drop in vitamin D.

It really could be anything.  Don't panic just yet!

Sun -- I have had the same problem with VitD levels.  I started out deficient when first tested, then started taking 5,000 D3 and within 6 months I was up to normal.  Kept on the same amount and next test was back down to deficient again.  Another 6 months and I'm still deficient (not going into the numbers because the Cdn and U.S. tests use different measurements).  Neither doc nor I can figure out what's going on.  Just had a calcium blood level test but the results haven't come back yet.  VERY STRANGE!  But, I'm not experiencing either fatigue or low energy, nor any other problem (touch wood.......hand to forehead, of course!).

Sunnyflowers ... Is vitamin D3 the one we get from the sunshine?  Maybe you're just in desperate need of some nice warm sunny days.  I know how it feels to get run down and fear the worst.  I think a call to your PCP is a good idea.  Are your numbers normal or low normal?

Otter .. I understand that feeling of agitation.  I hope you feel better soon.  I'm glad your boat is working again.  Do you fish when you go boating?  BTW ... I read your recent posts and you don't sound crabby.

    hugs,

    Bren

Thank you for the birthday wishes and the rabbit cake!

I've been 39 so many times I've gotten bored with it ... think I'll be 43 this year instead.  We are putting off the birthday dinner until tomorrow because we need to go to the same area as the restaurant I want to go to then anyway.  This rabbit will be having steak ... not carrots!

Scoot ... I hope you got your meds today and are on the way to feeling better.

Athena ... good for you on the job thing!  It's scary but sometimes you have to take that leap of faith to find a better situation.  And we all know that lions are very good at leaping and landing on their feet!

otter ... glad to hear that you got your boat back!  Mind if I join you on the 'blah' bench?  I'll snap out of it but my silly, bratty, lovable Sidney cat died last Friday and I'm still in shock I think.  Stroke ? Wednesday afternoon ... better Thursday and we thought he'd made it and then whatever it was happened again.  So I'm kind of just generally p*ssed at the universe.

Trying my best to ignore all the conspiracy theories and other crappola that seems to be increasing every day on the board ... yeesh.

    Waving 'hi' at everybody!

WR - sorry about the kitty - so sad. Enjoy your birthday steak.

Sunflowers - go outside and have some sun and try not to worry. I haven't got a clue what my D3 reading is, not sure if onc ever tested it.

We have a public holiday for Anzac Day today - the toaster fried itself this morning, so I hope the shops are open later so I can get a new one.

Bummer on the toaster, susie!  I hate it when appliances misbehave.  Why don't things last 40 years like they used to?

I finally got my pain meds at 5:30 tonight, well after the pain moved in and made my joints its permanent home.  It's hard to control it once it reaches that point.  Next time, I will call in a refill TWO weeks ahead of time.  *muttering about crappy staff people*

Happy happy birthday to our dear WhiteRabbit!  Hope you're enjoying it despite losing your fur baby.  HUGS!

In other news, horsey purchase is smoothly moving forward and all of the pieces are in place.  We're waiting for the final gear to turn (vet prepurchase exam) and we can launch Project Horsey!  Yay!

He's already blessed with a name - "For-Too-it-ous," but his barn name is Sampson because he was so huge when he was born.

The horse has a tragic background - his father dropped dead at age 6 from either a blood clot or aneurysm.  The father's mother died giving birth to him, as did her mother before her.  The breeder named him "For-Too-it-ous" because she wanted a lucky name after so much tragedy (and because the "For...Too" comes from his dad's name).

My sister's also buying a horse - my horse's full sister!

Wow Scoot - I'm impressed you have room for a horse - I wish we lived on big land. I love his name - so cool.

One bright hope - the factory outlet centre out near the airport is open this afternoon - not sure if any of the stores there sell appliances, but I could look for shoes :)

linda - I am going to have that test for blood calcium levels - it's, I think, called PTH here, parathyroid hormone - one of the 4 little glands around the thyroid - but a VERY separate gland.  They test the calcium, and LOW vitamin D is a sign of "trouble" usually a small tumor on one if not many of the 4 parathryoid glands. When too much calcium in blood - our wise bodies use vitamin d to help get rid of it - or we wind up with VERY unhappy kidneys ( full of stones) as I'm learning from research on the causes of low vitamin d.  BLEAH, BLEAH, BLEAH

Supposed to be an easy surgery, heck affter BMX, anything is easy - just so unnerving  as I take SO much Vitamin d3 ( 6,000 to 7,000ius a day) and it DROPPED form 35 to 26 in 5 months.  Nothing else different.

But I gotta say, or whisper ( bc moving to bones) is a terrifying thought!  shivers...shaking with fear

Girls - I am SO embarrassed - I am the world's worst housekeeper. For ages now I keep meaning to vacuum under our bed and clean up the wall behind the bed head. Finally, today, I got Steve to pull the bed away from the wall before he went to golf - WOW dust bunnies like you have never ever seen before all up the wall and all over the bed and under it. I am proud to say I've cleaned behind most of the furniture in our room now except for Steve's drawers and my dressing table (too big to move). After I've been to the factory outlet I might even polish the furniture. Why can't I have a cleaning lady like most people seem to have. Years ago, I took a month off work and spring cleaned the whole house - even had a spreadsheet set up to track the work I had to do. Who gets time in this day and age when working is all we seem to have time for and can't afford not to do.

Ok - no electrical at the factory outlet centre except for steroes - bummer. I did get a book for $5. Didn't find any shoes. I am proud to say I polished all of our bedroom furniture - looks great. Now I can rest.

Belated Happy birthday Ms. Bunny!  I hope there were lots of tasty carrots and carrot like substitutes in your celebration.

Interesting about the Vit d & calcium.  hmmmm will have to consider asking doctors about that.  I keep my Vit D drops in my drawer at work and another container in my bag.  That way I get roughly 1000 a day if you average it all out.  I am tired and fatigued but I think that is more from waking up too early and going to bed too late.

scuttlers! don't do that when I'm drinking my coffee!  As for those dust bunnies under the bed, you know if you are a slacker type who just lets the whole bed thing (springs and mattress) sit on the floor, there is no place for the dust bunnies to go!

But seriously susie if you want a cleaning lady why not hire one?  Maybe just the twice a month kind to keep things under control and take the strain off you?

Today is a gray sort of day that suits my mood perfectly.  I have a slew of doctor appointments starting with that MRI check-up I've been putting off for so long.  Then a couple hours later, I get the results from the breast surgeon.  I have no reason to think there will be something wrong but you know how it is.

DH was supposed to be coming with me but I discovered he had forgotten to write the appointments down and booked something for himself during the middle of it all.  I have chosen not to remind him and make him miss his thing.  He is soooo overloaded dealing with my mother (she is a non-stop talker and he is a quiet loner type guy) and her many dr appts and the chemo and the kids stuff (science project, baseball, chaperoning out of town sporting events) as well as our friend who has been in hospital for over a week with a bacterial infection  Cry --all the stress on him sort of scares me that DH is going to have a heart attack or something.  So I am going to put on the big girl panties and do these appointments myself and hope that the thing he is doing for himself is helpful for his stress level.

MRI at 9:45 PCT, surgeon at 12:30  Allons-y!
