I saw that Blue has not logged in for awhile. Tell her I said hi if you talk to her.
It is cold and damp here - been raining for the last 3 days. I know that is great for the horse pastures but dangit - we turned on the swamp cooler Easter Sunday because it was hot and now we are having to turn back on the heat. By this Sunday it is supposed to get back up to 80 degrees.
I have to get a tooth pulled today. I am still working on getting an implant from the last tooth that was pulled on the other side of my mouth. Not sure how I am going to be able to eat for the next few months with two teeth missing on opposite sides of my mouth.
I swear the chemo and/or Tamoxifen has destroyed my teeth. But....I would do it again

-
No teeth, no food - not nice!
-
Athena, that reminds of a beggar's verse that my mother heard in India years ago:
No papa, no mama, no money, no good.
-
Well, at least there's drink....
It's 5 pm in many places, folks....and where it isn't, it was, and history counts for something. So,
calling CherryL, our bartender. We need instructions for the house tonight. We also need signs like "hugs to Blue" and "Barbara, we miss you" and anything else anyone wants to say.
I am celebrating the fact that I just cut the strings of my bondage to a job that was killing me....I gave six weeks' notice, for which they were extremely grateful, and which assures me of food on the table for a bit. So desperate was I that I resigned without having another job. New worries will come, I am sure. But for now, I have saved myself from the emotional abyss. I was really going to the dogs and I even feared I would bring on a cancer recurrence. That or a heart attack or my first hospitalization for depression (as opposed to mania). This is a very tough life sometimes, isn't it?
Unbeknown to all of you, you kept me going and I am thankful beyond words, really....
-
Good for you Athena!!! You do NOT need that stress in your life.
I read a book a while back called "Who Moved My Cheese"--you got to know when the cheese starts stinking, and it's time to leave!! Most of us put up with "bad cheese" far too long in our lives.
Good things will come for you. In the meantime, I'll join you in that drink. Hate for you to drink alone!!
-
Good for you Athena. I'm glad we helped to keep you going.
-
Hang in there Athena!
Car just broke down and it appears to be the transmission.
Wishing money really grew on trees...
-
((((Athena)))) we need you here! Good for you about the job. Any job that is creating that much stress is not worth it. I am sure you wlll find something better.
Saying "hi" to everyone, and requesting a Baileys on ice please.
-
Hey Scoot
Check out the Just a Few Members to Start with thread. Way cool.
-
Athena, Good for you for quitting a job you hate. It's so not worth your health. Been there with a boss I couldn't stand and was much happier working for someone else (anyone else). Good luck in your future endevours, whatever they may be.
-
Athena, good for you quitting a job you hate. Now to find the one that will make you happy. Keeping good thoughts.
-
((((((((((((((((Athena))))))))))))))) - I'm sure you've made the right decision
-
Athena - good for you. Bad jobs and bad bosses can cause way too much stress.
I would love a Cape Cod - make it a double please.
I have been in bed since I got home from the dentist. Between taking 2 lorazepam and 2 percocet - I knocked myself out. My stepson made me scrambled eggs so I figured I would come down here and check in briefly as those percocet wore off and I just took a couple more so I am not going to last but maybe 5 minutes.
Tonight I am going to lay on my arse and do nothing but watch TV. I deserve a break!
-
Dear Lioness, congrats to you for getting out of a toxic situation. I did the same thing in 2003, did not have a job,but knew I had to leave where I was. All worked out eventually, although there were anxious moments. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, while pouring great libations for you.
Love,
The Chaplain/Bartender
-
Anne, I've heard of that book, "Who Moved My Cheese". I just assumed it was about people who were a tad anal-retentive.
-
To our libation pourer!
-
Heyyyyy people. Spending today and tomorrow in Manhattan with friends I have never met. We've talked on the interwebs and googlebot for 16 years! They finally made it here from Australia! Yay! Should be fun.functional
-
Way to go, Scoot. Enjoy!!!!
-
Athena! Congrats on liberation! A job that kills you or makes you ill isn't worth it. Bartender, please mix me a mimosa as those are appropriate for mornings!
Currently I like my job well enough --- it does have good insurance and there are all those dependants to deal with ---but my favorite book when contemplating a non-working life are those from the Simplicity Movement like Your Money or Your Life.
I found the book really useful for budgeting and keep it on my shelf in case I ever find myself lacking an incoming income stream.
Scootaloo have a great time playing tourist with your friends. What fun!
-
ATHENA! ROARING - what courage - and GOOD SENSE and care of the SOUL ( as Thomas Moore in his Care of the Soul would confirm) - so brave! I'm sure there's something good ahead, the hardest step is the one you've already taken. WOW! Just SUCH courage - and taking good care of yourself.
Maybe you're inspiring Barbara to do the same. The emotional well being feel GOOD and nutrtured where you spend most of your day is so, so important. Just know you, and Barbara are going to make it all work.
Simplicity. Vicki Robbins, all those good folks in Washington state. Lots of great reading. I liked Sue Bender's Simplicity - and I LOVED LOVED LOVED her Stretchingi Lessons.
Currently reading World Enough & Time; On Creativity and slowing down, by Christian McEwen . Exellent!!! A local author too...several friends are reading it, and all are raving about it too.
Scoot - Happy NYC days - love that you're with friends you haven't met yet ;-)
-
Scoot - that is awesome that you are finally going to meet these friends in person! I would be way excited.
-
I haven't read "Who Ate My Cheese," but I have read "Who's Driving My Bus." I wonder if the books are similar.
Had a wonderful drive today up to Roanoke and a lovely lunch with my sister. We also made a trip to Sam's Club.
Athena .. sending you a big hug. How courageous of you. I just know everything will work out for you.
Scoot .. what a fun day! Hope you're having a great time. Will you be able to see some of our NYC friends while you're there?
Chaplain .. it's wonderful to see you.
Hope everyone is enjoying their day,
hugs,
Bren

Thread Title of The Day - "Welcome to Sucksville" I haven't read the thread yet but the title sure grabbed me
-
Thank you all - never think of myself as especially brave (favorite animals aside) - more like at my wit's end. :-) Hope it pays off. My mental health has improved dramatically just since my resignation.
Jancie - off to see what it's all about.
Bartender's on duty tonight, right??
-
The bar and grill is open for business.
-
Spring Break has just begun for me! We're heading off to spend some time with friends in Hawaii! I'll have a Mai Tai please, bartender.
See you all in about a week!
Aloha,
Mary

Wine and Percocet go well together
I was dropping off my cheese fondue set along with Kirsch to a friend so she could make cheese fondue. I wasn't counting on seeing that bottle of white wine and of course could not resist!I had to get a tooth pulled on Thursday hence the percocet. My tooth wasn't bothering me too much but I felt like a lalala land was a good place to go.

Thread of the day Five Year Survivors Post Your Screen Name Here.
Thank you Mods. What a great idea.
-
Athena -- Congrats on taking the "big step", and warmest wishes for finding a position that suits you to perfection! Stress causes an over-production of cortisol, thought by many to be a causative agent in cancer. I too had a very stressful job (I loved it and hated it at the same time!) and I honestly feel that it was a contributor to my BC.
-
Morning .. oops I mean afternoon ... Everyone!
Can't believe it's already past noon. I've been very busy today mowing. I got lots of work done and now all I need to do is walk the dogs and I'm done for the day. I do have some transcription work to do, but think I'll wait and do it tomorrow. It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow.
Athena .. You should be lovin' this weather .. and it's supposed to get cooler next week! I hope we don't have a freeze ... it would kill my flowers.
Rabbit ... Did you get your weeping cherry planted? Thinking of you and sending hugs.
Rosemary .. I love the thread the mods started. I felt so happy that I got to add my name to the list.
Hope everyone has a great day,
hugs,
Bren
