I'm on FB and never niticed anything on my page--I personally don't go into what I say here or that I'm on this site--this is where I come to vent, chat and complain too. But my dgt, and girlfriend have both been hacked so i imagine anyone or any site can be.As little as I know about computers that i knew, and I don't put much personal info on any site that I might talk on.

    Day,

    No need to get upset.

I said you were very correct in pointing out the TOS. Thanks for doing that.

If people are concerned about their privacy, they need to protect their personal information under that TOS.

    That is all.

I'm still confused about PMs.  Are they actually private or not?

It's interesting you say that Day........and I'm not trying to dispute your words except that a friend says he can view my PMs.  What's with that?

Day thank you for posting.........it is so refreshing for a member to post when then actually know what they are talking about and without inserting their personal agenda into the discussion......

    just the facts..........so so refreshing........

and yes this comes up about every 6 months or so and bc.org has to remind everyone what they signed up for.........

and if someone believes that bc.org is not living up to someones self perceived idea of what an informational public website is then maybe they should move on......

I welcome all the computer education we are getting on this thread because many of us are lacking in these skills. But namecalling and being rude is certainly not necessary.

Like Beesie wrote, this issue has come up regularly over the years.  I think it's good to be reminded that there is no real privacy on the internet.  I think we forget that because we get to be so close to each other on this site.

I'm not worried about my picture being on here of me at get togethers.  My family knows I go to some gatherings and even hosted one at my home.  If something ever happened to me, I would hope my sis would come and let my friends know.

I'm not on FB so I can't answer you Mary.  Sorry.

I do hope our PMs are exactly that, private.

It is a little unsettling this topic is off the Active Topics.

Day, after this kerfuffle I don't find anything peculiar.  Well, other than my spelling of kerfuffle.

Day, I have no idea what you are insinuating (if anything) but I think that may be a whole other issue than this topic.  Please feel free to PM me.

Ok, Marple, I am going to give you some applied logic.

First though, the definition of troll:

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[4] The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted". (source: wikipedia)

Now the exercise of applied logic:

Trollish thread is posted. Informed responses are posted as replies to show the OP that their accusations are unfounded. Soon more voices join the OP to be indignant about the same issue, even if pertinent responses were already given. OP insists that the issues are real, and escalates to next level of trollishness, even if it is demosntrated that it is an impossibility. OP insists it's real; at the same time OP sends a few private messages in which reiterates that the issue is real and that her S.O. showed her. Next, a "friend" of another poster sustains OP's veridicity of the issue because a "he-friend" told her that it's real. No matter about any of the pertinent informed responses, the issue is dragged for as much as it's worth beating a dead horse.

    applied logic questions:

    1. Where is the proof that what should be private isn't? It was asked for repeatedly and never given.

    2. Enough informed pertinent responses have been given. Why is this matter still dragged on?

My response to these questions is:

    "Concern troll

A concern troll is a false flag pseudonym created by a user whose actual point of view is opposed to the one that the user claims to hold. The concern troll posts in Web forums devoted to its declared point of view and attempts to sway the group's actions or opinions while claiming to share their goals, but with professed "concerns". The goal is to sow fear, uncertainty and doubt within the group." Source, again, wikipedia.

Yes, I know, trolls hate logic. It's too much of a mirror of truth to them. It's ok, maybe it will work next time. I might be away from the forum and then you can deploy at your heart's will.

Although I lack the blunt gene, I do appreciate forthrightness and honesty. That being said, name calling will always fuel a fire. Bottom line is by signing on to bco we agreed to terms of service ( why would anyone assume a higher standard?), we were required to give minimal info (your medical history and diagnosis are not required nor is where you live etc.). Most of all, this is a public forum so you should have no expectation of privacy with regard to what you post.

I'm quite a bit older than most of you, so I always err on the side of caution because it's unfamiliar.  And I refuse to even look at facebook.  When I first found this site, my son advised that I shouldn't fill in my profile with a diagnosis or a picture - so I didn't.   But I've gotten wonderful information & advice from this site & the threads.   I'd like to thank the mods for the time spent keeping the site running and all the members for their information & friendship. I'm sure we will all be more careful in the future.
