Wow we have been so busy!!!! Okay results for the county show: 3 kids, 4 entries and 5 ribbons! Money is Zero, but money is only money. Youngest did a bang up job at the show he placed 5th with the top three making the big Sale. He got bumped up to fourth place but not third! But he did such a great job, and the crowd loved him and his goat. People came up to us all night saying how great he did. Showmanship he came last in but he can outrun a goat and pounce to get his lead, the county show people know that now! He stole the show. The oldest's red goat stole the show too, everyone loved him and he got a 10th place ribbon. Middle son got nothing, but there is always next year! Youngest got Reserve(2nd) for his charcoal drawing, 5th for his Van Gogh interruptation. Middle son got 4th for his cookies.

The goats are at the school farm fattening up some more!

The morning I found out youngest didn't make the sale, Hubby had a gallbladder attack. By the time I came from the dairy goat breeding show he was begging to go to the ER. So he has been at the hospital since 11:30 AM Saturday, his last meal was Friday night. Finally they operated at 3:55 PM today. He has been more than a bit cranky, they were afraid his stones would move if he ate. So he has been starving. He is more than loopy, now he understands why I hate the hospital and beg to leave. Hopefully he will come home tomorrow. Our family has been scattered, and worn out!

Oldest got beat badly at tennis, but he is headed off to a Tournement tomorrow perhaps he will fair better tomorrow!

So sorry you wife has the strep, I hate that!

Denise eat bland until you feel like you can handle toilet paper again!

Got to go I am exhausted!

Hi All: Shemp, yeah we caught the 'window of opportunity' just right last Sunday--Just enough time to get in a decent ride and for my DD to have a romp in the playground. She's a real trooper; I was so proud of her: she wiped out on her bicycle (due to underinflated tires I found out later), skinned her knee pretty badly. We held her for a bit and then when I asked her if she wanted to go home, she said no, she wanted to continue the ride and head to the playground.

Denise: Welcome to our world. We've heard so much about you (only good things, of course), it's nice to have you with us in person. Oh, and re: the beans. Uh, for yours and your family's sake, you may wanna lay off of those for a while,
;-) Hope you get good results (and good drugs).

Cowgirl: Man, and I thought are life was crazy/busy. Congrats on the show; sounds like it went well. Hope middle son isn't taking it too hard. And, how the heck is your hubby doing? I don't know which is worse: not eating/being laid up for three days, or the surgery!

And, shout-outs to Carrie, Mags, and the rest o' the crew. It's a beautiful "opening day," here. As Ernie used to say: "Let's play two!"

    Best,
    Greg

Sounds like a good time Cowgirl, congrats on the hard work paying off (even if not in $)!

Greg, it's always amazing how quickly kids can shake something off ten minutes after you'd think they were broke and traumatized.

Ugh, lunch hour's over, back to "the grind." Have a good Tuesday everyone!

Greg, Now he says it is the surgery before the surgery he said lack of food. His gallbladder was really in a bad way, so they did the right thing only hard to endure. Middle has added to his list which animals he is going to show, that is why we were at the dairy goat show! He was the first kid to pick out a goat, so he had his choice of goats. It is a crap shoot no matter how you look at it!

    Shemp,
It is character building and that is very important. Right now if they fatten them up they can be ahead of the cost. So all in all not a bad deal.

Oooo off to cook Ramen Noodle soup, uhhh DH is really off in the eating dept!

    Hi all,
Cowgirl sounds like the kids did really well and had a blast. I'm going to pm you my e-maill address so we can have a talk on g-mail. We even have the web cam set up but I don't know how to use it yet lol. Sorry about your husband's gall bladder problems. Hope he gets better soon.
Hi Denise, glad that you came to join us here. I have seen you on other threads though so I feel like I know you already too. Especially the thing with the dancing goat lol.
Greg you have to remember that those Americanisms mean nothing to me lol. I'm English living in Greece. Who is Ernie lol?
Carrie where are you lol? Missing you.

Mags: Whoops! Sorry about that. I should have known better. The "Ernie" to whom I was referring was the former first baseman for those "lovable losers" of the Baseball world, the Chicago Cubs:

    http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_and_honorees/hofer_bios/banks_ernie.htm

    And not, the "other" Ernie:

I have started to post here 3 different times and everytime something interupted me .

Hi everyone, hope you are having a nice weekend!
Denise got her Pet scan report back and she has a hot
spot in her neck, so she has to have a CT scan on Tues of that area , we will keep you all posted.
She and I were both feeling pretty down about it and Cowgirl hosted a whine and vent party for Denise, and anyone else that needed it in the Moving beyond board
and it really cheered her up and made her feel better.

Greg I thought you were talking about Nascar

We had some bad hail storms on Fri. heres a pic ~

    Hi all!

Cowgirl, I adore the goat picture! Some day I'll get back down to Texas and I'm gonna hug me a goat! ( you don't shoot strangers who are on your property do you?)LOL

Hi Mags, I first saw your posts on this thread and fell in love with your picture (my babies are felines!). Was that taken professionally? Very awesome.

Greg, Yep...I can officially be here now since Carrie has some 'hanky' BC stuff going on. That makes me a family member! I use to try to respect her privacy here, (I only peeked about 14 times), but I say I'm official now.

I must say that being on this side of this crappy disease completely sucks! I can handle me having to deal with it but am infuriated that my sister has to. I some how told myself that by me getting BC would spare my 3 sisters and mom (I ignored the whole genetic thing!). So much for being a martyr. I pray that I can help and support her whenever she needs it like she did (does) for me. That is invaluable!

    Take good care all,

    Denise

    Hi all,
I love the goats too. Don't know if I'd hug one though unless it was wearing one of it's dressies lol.
Denise, bf took the photo think he was just lucky with the light and everything. I have photos of my cats on other threads too. Sorry I was late for your party and made myself sick with too much food and booze. I will never learn.
Carrie the photo of the hail storm is fab. You made a fabulous bartender at the party but those drinks were a bit too much for my stomach.
    Hugs to you all,

So glad this thread is active! Deese so glad you are here, it does hurt worse when you are not the patient. No one believes that until they are not the patient.

Well Hammer got into the back of the car again, and when he did youngest had to push him back while I wrestled Casper and Lucky to stay out! They truly believe they belong in the car!

Youngest and I hug the goats all the time, and yes we do shoot trepassers. Youngest is a dead on shot, so you should call first! He plans to be a sharp shooter, and I think he has the talent to! He looks too little for a rifle but you should see him target practice! He is the best of the boys, which makes the oldest really frustrated.

Got a call yesterday, we are goat shopping this week! Babies born in February! I need to get some this next weekend or the next!

Mags our goat dressies have to be fixed, the goats have torn them up badly! Plus it is too hot for dressies right now, spring is here and it is pretty warm!

Cowgirl, I can't wait for the new babies take pictures! I am glad that I can't go with you to look at goats I would be flipping the plastic out for every cute goat and trying to make you understand how the boys need that many goats!
( Don't think I could talk your Dh into the feed bill though lol) or I would bring one home and tell my other animals it was a funny puppy!

Hugs everyone hope you had a nice weekend!

Just poping in to say hi. This is Alex.
It has been a while. I see that you guys have kept this thread very much alive!!
Mags, Dessie welcome to the thread, I know from your postings that you have been here for quite a while, but it is never too late to say welcome. In fact, you should probably be welcoming me.
Greg, Cowgirl, shemp seem like you are all doing well and I m glad to hear it.
DW is doing well, hair is growing nicely. She ditched the wig soon after our vacation in February.
Cowgirl, hope you DH is recovered by now. BTW,i see from this thread that you are now quite the party animal. I will think of you next time I think of throwing a party.

Hi Nickii, good to see you popping in. I keep missing you on chat.
Carrie me and you must never go animal shopping together with cowgirl or we would have her farm restocked twice over. I love little baby animals lol.
Cowgirl don't suppose your husband would let you have pigs too. I love pigs. Oooooooooh better forget that they might end up as bacon lol. I would hug your goats without their dressies - honest! I've only ever seen kittens being born it must be an amazing experience to watch a bigger animal being born.
Hi Alex, thanks for the welcome. I really love this thread. There are some lovely people here. I especially love hearing about Cowgirl's goats. Next time sheep boy brings the sheep past my house I'll try and get a photo of them. It's nearly Easter here now which means lots of baby lambs being killed for the spits. Not my favourite time of year. Time for me to go to work.

    Alex,
Finally you posted! I know with Joanna feeling better you are busier! But we miss ya! DH is still walking slow and barely eating but for him that is a good thing! He needs to lose weight, and surgery pain is completely foreign to him! Personally I like knowing he has an inkling of my journey!

    Mags,

Did I not say? We are getting two pigs too! I can hardly wait for those babies. You are correct though DH would have to stomp his feet at you two and tell you it is too many! The pigs are coming from a breeder a long way from here, so I don't know when we will get them. They will end up as bacon sorry to say. But in the meantime their lives will be happy! I promise!

I have seen many calves being born, and many pigs being born. The pigs are more interesting to me. The mother goes into labor and starts her panting like they tell humans to do. She moves around trying to get comfortable, and never really is. Then she finally lays down and gives birth, you as the owner of the mamma pig have to be there. There is so much fluid many baby pigs die if you are not there. So many a night I would be there watching a sow struggle and then bam she felt relief, and the babies would be cleaned up by hubby and given back to the sow.

The cow is really simple, they stand there uncomfortable, and they lower a bit and slam out comes a calf. Sometimes the cow doesn't even look back. Many a day and night I have sat in the car with the lights on while hubby got a baby calf up to drink because it was too weak to do it on it's own.

I watch him with amazement, he is so brilliant. He works like a doctor out there, and he never attended college.

I have never seen a lamb born though, or a goat for that matter. My middle son was begging to go watch that one be born.

Morning, Everybody: Alex, welcome back to the thread. Glad to hear your DW is doing well. My DW loves when I run my fingers through her new hair--my new nickname for her is "fuzzy wuzzy." ;-)

Cowgirl: I wish my weekends were naughty (those days are over, I'm afraid). Although, DW and I had a really nice weekend together (candlelight dinner Friday night--whoo hoo) as DD was invited for a sleepover. Good luck with the new/old animals. Your description reminds me of DD in the petstore; I'm always coming up with new ways/reasons to say "no," lol. At our highest (or lowest!) point, we were up to 27 guinea pigs (we learned the hard way how quickly they can breed--and became our pet store's number one supplier!). Someday, I'll tell you about my hour-long road trip with a cageload of male guinea pigs in the backseat, to the (no kill) guinea pig shelter...

Carrie/Deese: Hey, you guys--Glad you're both here and providing comfort/support for each other. Carrie: Who's the Ernie of Nascar fame?

Mags, how're things in your neck o' the world?

Nickii, Truthfully, I'm a "recovering" Cubs fan (no, I didn't jump on the Chisox bandwangon just last year like a lot of folks. Growing up I was a Cubs fan, though. My late mother used to pull my brother and me out of school this time of year to attend Cubs' home games--that was a treat! And Ron Santo was my fav Cubbie. He's a real inspiration: lost both legs to diabetes, yet keeps working the broadcast booth each day. Shame he didn't make it in to the hall (o' fame!)

    Have a great day, everyone,
    Greg

My wife and I are hanging with our back in shape commitment. She finished rads less than a month ago, but she knocked out a 20 mile bike ride this past weekend, pretty good! Of course, she promptly passed out afterwards, but considering her last ride last fall only got about 5 miles, I'd say things are looking up and up!

Oh, and Greg, I'm a Cardinals fan, so you can feel real good about being a Cubbies fan... at least for now.

Tonight we see bohr babies! I have to email another breeder, and see if she is ready to sell some!

Shemp! I am so proud of you and DW!!

Matter of fact, I just think you guys are awesome hubbies! I am sure you are pains here and there but overall I think your wives are lucky!

Now about baseball I am Astros fan, used to be a Ranger fan but I can't take that much pain! We got a guy having surgery! But we are going to play well this year I hope!

Hi all, they've just built lots of houses where I live so sheep boy isn't coming past as often but I'll keep my eye out for him.
I haven't been here so much as I have just learnt the joys of instant messaging.
Cowgirl yeahhhhhh for the pigs. Shame that they end up as bacon which I don't even eat very often now because of the fatty liver.
Carrie sorry love but i stole the pig. I will be using him somewhere in the future. Maybe as the picture for my instant messages till I get my camera hooked up to the pc. I'm apologising 'cos I know how upset you were when Deese stole the dancing goat lol.
Hi Greg, it's lovely here now the weather is picking up. Still a bit weird though - really cold last night and beautiful today.
Shemp I really need to do the getting back into shape thing but it's not happening. I stopped smoking when I found the lump and piled the pounds on. Maybe now summers nearly here I will find some motivation and start swimming.
    Catch you all later

Carrie have you got any nice cat gifs or pictures? Mine are all on the old computer still. Bf says we will transfer them using my camera - the photos that is - but I have no idea how to do it myself. Maybe next week as he has a lot of extra days off and I have two.

    Chemo praised for hard-to-treat cancer
By LINDSEY TANNER, AP Medical Writer
Last Updated 6:06 pm PDT Wednesday, April 12, 2006

CHICAGO (AP - Research offers hopeful news to women whose breast cancers are typically more difficult to treat: Modern chemotherapy means more of them will survive than previously thought.

The latest findings offer more evidence that a tumor's "personality characteristics" are more important than size and how much the cancer has spread. Often the key is whether the tumor is fueled by the hormone estrogen.

Increasingly, doctors are considering that when recommending treatment.

About two-thirds of breast cancer patients have hormone-fueled tumors. Typically such cancers are treated with tamoxifen and other groundbreaking hormone-blocking drugs, which have fewer side effects. These women sometimes get chemotherapy too, although the new study suggests many of them will do just as well without it.

But that still leaves about 70,000 U.S. women diagnosed each year with nonhormonal cancer.

The new study found that advances in conventional intravenous chemotherapy give many of those patients almost as good a chance at survival as women with estrogen-fueled tumors.

While tamoxifen "changed the landscape" for estrogen-fueled tumors, "the playing field has now been leveled somewhat" because nonhormonal cancers respond so well to modern chemo, said lead author Donald Berry, a biostatistician at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
The research supports updated guidelines released in December by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, a group of leading cancer treatment centers. They recommend that treatment be based partly on the tumor's hormone status.

"Breast cancer isn't one disease and one size won't fit all," said Dr. Eric Winer, a co-author and director of the breast oncology center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

The study appears in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association along with an unrelated report from the government's landmark research into hormone pills.
That study shows that unlike estrogen-progestin pills, estrogen-only pills don't increase older women's risks for breast cancer. The new results, based on an updated analysis, echo findings from a report two years ago that showed estrogen pills linked to a higher risk of strokes, but not breast cancer.

The research on tumors and treatment is an analysis of 20 years of data from three studies involving 6,644 patients whose disease had spread to lymph nodes. Modern chemotherapy improved five-year cancer-free survival rates by almost 23 percent in women with nonhormonal cancer, versus just 7 percent in women with estrogen-fueled disease.

The latest chemotherapy regimen studied - three drugs including Taxol and infusions every other week for 16 weeks - reduced the risk of recurrence and death in patients with nonhormonal disease by more than 50 percent, compared with older, lower-dose and less frequent regimens.

The results reveal "just how big an effect the new chemotherapy is having" on women with estrogen-negative cancer, and likely will instill more optimism about these women's prognosis, said Debbie Saslow, director of breast and gynecologic cancer for the American Cancer Society.
The estrogen pills study involved 10,739 postmenopausal volunteers in the Women's Health Initiative. It found that the pills increase older women's risks of abnormal mammograms just as pills containing estrogen and progestin do.

That's because hormones can make breast tissue denser and harder to interpret on mammograms. That often results in repeat mammograms to clarify the initial images, a process that can be costly and anxiety-provoking.

Wyeth's Dr. Eileen Helzner called the results reassuring but said women should discuss their individual risks with their doctors before deciding whether to take hormones at menopause.

Hi carrie, I have been reading yor posts and and I wish I had something useful to say as you are an a unusual, but good situation. By good, I mean that you have options in preventing the cancer, but more importantly that you do not have to go through treatment.
Also, please know that your sister in my prayers as she goes through additional testing.
