Baby it's cold outside

After a week in the 70s and 80s we are supposed to be cold and wet again this weekend.
-
Temp. dropped 20 degrees from yesterday, 80 to 60, all the flowers are in bloom, hope the temp. doesn't drop too far tonight. Coming back from a luncheon in Williamsville, got to see the forsythias, weeping cherry, daffodils, magnolia trees, just beautiful.
-
We didn't get it today. It was so nice I spent the morning cleaning out my greenhouse. Power washing the moss from the floor after a moist winter beign shut up.
-
Got up this morning and my heater was running, it hasn't run in several weeks that I am aware of. The temp outside this morning is in the low 50's and thunder storms are in the area and rain is called for the biggest part of the day. Projected high temp is mid 60's, also below the 80's that we have been getting lately. But the projected high is closer to normal high temps for March.

We are supposed to have rain today with temps at a high of 62. I am glad I spent the time outdoors yesterday.
I do want to head out after church and pick up some vegetable seeds and some garden soil. If it isn't pouring, i can still play in the greenhouse and listen to the rain on the roof.
-
It rained all day here as well. I did pick up some seeds and vegies. Planted seeds for squash, cucumbers, eggplants, onions, and tomatillos. I will plant the actual plants I picked up later this week.
We were watching the Nascar race, but since it's in Fontana, it got rained out after the halfway mark.
-
We got rain most of the day yesterday but there is no rain projected over the next few days. I think they said we got between 1-2 inches yesterday. since we didn't get much snow this year, this will help bring up the water tables. It was also more normal temps this morning again.

-
I checked after church yesterday and we had only received 1/4 inch. I haven't checked since. We are supposed to be just cloudy for the rest of the week with showers on Wednesday.
-
Well, we've gone from breaking high temp records back to snow, sleet, freezing rain. Welcome to spring in Maine!
-
Dear N.M, my DD went to the University of Maine at Orono, one trip up in August we went to the beach, still could not get in the water past your ankles and they were freezing! But boy do you ever have great lobster, used to camp on our vacations to see her and went to the pier each day to get our lobster. We dropped 30 degrees here in WNY, down from 80 to 50, dropping to 28 tonight, hope we don't get a frost for our flowers and flowering trees!
-
We had drizzling rain all day yesterday didn't get much more for the evening. We probably topped out at 1/2 inch. We are supposed to have clouds the rest of the week but rain only on Wednesday.
-
got up and outside temp is in the middle 40's today is supposed to get up to the mid 60's. this is closer to normal March temps than what we have had over the past 2 weeks. Hopefully there will not be any frost to kill the plants that other people have set out.

I have tomatoes planted outdoors right now. They are blooming, so I hope to get some soon. It would be a shame to have them freeze.
-
Wind chill advisories out for today. And thast wind is COLD!!! Way too soon to put anything out, but the crocuses and dafodils are comeing up.
-
I went ahead and planted zucchini and crooknecks as well as my sugar snap peas today. They are reducing our chance of rain tomorrow. I need to work each day to make sure the sprinkler and watering systems are up and running before it gets too hot.
-
My crocuses and dafodils were up and blooming a month ago. Now my creeping phlox is in full bloom and the Azeleas and dogwood trees are not far from full bloom. The weather is turning back warmer after the cool off Sunday and Monday.

My Daffodils, Muscari and Narcissus have been blooming for over a month. My Hyacinth have come and gone, but the silly poppies haven't stopped blooming in a year!
-
Oh, and we didn't get a drop of the rain we were supposed to see today! I harvested 1/2 lb of asparagus today. That's probably the most I've harvested in a day since I planted them 2 years ago!
-
Meece, you should get more every year for several years. When I was 15 yrs old my folks bought a house built in 1899. The original garden had included an asparagus patch. We fed the whole neighbor hood on that patch all summer.
-
When I bought the roots, they were already 3rd year roots, but it took three years for them to really produce. Up until now,I woudl get 2-4 spears every 3 days, so storing them up wasn't the sucess I hoped for.
Nancy, only two days until our train trip. Everyone is really looking forward to it. It really doesn't matter if it rains or not.
-
We had a glorious week of 70 to 80 degree weather last week, we all got spoiled, the trees and flowers were tricked into believing that spring had sprung. This week we are down to more seasonal weather, the 40's and 50's, even had a few mornings of hard freezes that has the farmers on edge, especially the vineyards around here. Talking about the possibility of slushy snow early morning tomorrow!! Now that is most definitely not welcome.
-
Not welcome probably but here none the less, lawns, trees, flowering bushes and the street are all snow covered, it was supposed to be a dusting, looks like an inch already. I wonder what this will do to all the budding trees, the flowers are done for and the poor vineyards, no crop this year.
-
Oh, no! That's a bummer.
We have an outing planned tomorrow and I still hope the weather is good because I don't want to drive the Grapevine in the rain.
-
All the snow is gone, thank god, temps in the 40's, tomorrow sunny and temps. in the 50's. It is dreary, cloudy and some rain today - great for reading a good book.
-
I have to go fix dinner right now, but I will mention that the rain did not ruin anything. When we got home, driving through rain off and on, we noticed that the wind had been awful here. Three of the window vents on my green house were literally torn off. Twisted metal was all that was left. I found the panels but it will take some work getting it back together. It was too cold and windy today to be outdoors (for me at least) so I stayed in and cleaned in my kitchen.
-
Yes, yesterday turned out ver nice. It is supposed to get up to the 80s by this weekend. Might make for a hot outdoor Easter Service on Sunday.
The murder mystery was fun, and the food was pretty darn good. When you get on the train the tables already have salads on them so you get to start eating right away. We chose the trip with a 30s theme mystery. Actors went through the 3 traincars that were reserved for the murder mystery, and acted out certain scenes so each car got basically the same show. Some of the actors sang a little and one was a magician which kept us entertained. The first half of the trip ended at the Loose Caboose. We got out and shopped there for about 30-40 minutes. When we returned to the train, the trained headed back to the station, and we were served lunch and dessert. There is a chef on board and it appeared the food was cooked on board. It tasted much better than the banquet meal we had last month at a nice hotel. Actors continued little skits, and we wrote down our suspect(s). Then they played out the final scene and awarded anyone who guessed correctly a little gift. My son was the only one in our train car that guessed correctly.
The whole trip was a little over 4 hours. It was nice and we think we will definitely go back for another trip.
A co-worker of mine told me he took his children on the "Polar Express" trip at Christmastime. It sounds really fun, and I can't wat til DGS gets old enough we could take him there.
We highly recommend the trains.
-
That sounds really interesting. I wonder if anything is like that in my area.
I am spending the next couple of weeks at a small town in the western tip of NC training for a new job, this is really more mountain area than where I live. yesterday we had some stormy weather and this morning the temp is mid 50's and foggy. I will have to watch out driving in. They are calling for more wet weather this afternoon.
-
It is in Fillmore. You can go online to www.fwry.com and make reservations. Now that we've done it once for the lunch, we'd like to do a dinner train. Patch is just about 10 months old right now. I have lots of plans for his trips here in the future, but I want him to be old enough to remember them.
There used to be a restaurant at "Califiornia Adventure" called Soap Opera Cafe (I think) and they servers were actors. The first murder mystery train I went on is at Napa. I am sure they are across the country.
-
Georgeous spring weather her in Toronto. From what I saw on the news very scarey weather in Texas lately.
-
I overheard a couple of guests her at the inn talking about the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad that starts in Bryson City NC and goes down by the Nantahala River for an hour and a half trip. Looking on the website tomorrow and Saturday they are doing a theme ride, Peanuts Easter Beagle trip. They also do the Polar Express trip in the winter. I may have to get my hubby up here to take a train ride when we go on vacation.
