AMERICAN IDOL....Season 11

hi ladies! I watch faithfully and don't post here too often. Had to laugh at Seaside with her bunk beds!
Tonight I was telling my DH (who did not care) I think the judges picked a few people as of the top 12 who they would save and they are sticking to it. Back in previous seasons when they would "sing for their lives" the judges would be talking the whole time and trying to figure it out. But this year they just sit and listen. Tonight Steven tried talking to Jennifer and she stopped him, put up her hand and shook her head. I think they second guess themselves but are trying to stick to it.
I too was shocked that Heejune didn't go home. For the record I love Phillip Phillips and Colton this past week was amazing, he has grown on me.
I love reading what you ladies have to say every week!
-
Oh Sheila..... You are going to be soooo unhappy with tonight!
-
Hi Laurie!!!
I do think they have it in their minds as to who they want standing there in the end and Erika wasn't one of them so no discussion and no save.....
Glad you're watching and following along here... Would love to hear your thoughts each week... After all, I think you were the first to nickname Phillip Phillips as PP and on this thread it has stuck... lol!! -
lol! We can thank my Dh for that one! He makes watching even more fun with the stuff he comes up with!
Of course if you get bunk beds for PP and Colton make sure it has a trundle because thats where I will sleep
-
you could see Randy and Steven shaking their heads when Hee Jun was safe; it was obvious who they thought should have stayed. HeeJun must be kinda embarrassed, he knows he's not as good as the rest of them.It must be so awkward for him.

Seaside and Karen I wonder if Jimmy and Nigel have some input with who they are to use the save on this year. Jimmy mentioned Jessica, Joshua and Colton and he is a big fan of Skylar's (in past weeks). This is going to play out as an interesting year. One thing that really bothers me... We all know Jessica can sing but I read on several other forums from kids that go to school with her and cheer with her that she is more that a wee bit stuck up shall we say and not the most nice person. If that is true I definitely don't want that as a role model for my grandkids. JMO though...
-
Finally....i finished watching it in 20 minutes.
I was very surprised with the results.
i disagree...........
I might go back and watch the whole 1 hour.....but it's too late.
Good Night everyone! ♥

I've often wondered if AI is just really a big honkin' money maker for Fox instead of a singing/talent/popularity contest.
I know Ryan comes on and says stuff like "Eleventy billion of you voted last night" (Including those tools in VFTW) but DH says that somewhere in the fine print is something to the effect that the final outcome of the show is at the discretion of the producers.
So I like to make my snotty comments after each contestant performs, but I don't get too upset when I see people leave who shouldn't. I like to think they get picked up by record companies without all the red tape of being "The American Idol".
Obviously, someone has to leave every week. I think Erika will find a way to make money from her music, but I think her look was too matronly, and her voice too old school for this season's AI. (Even though I loved her!) It's just a matter of time until the Court Jester (Heejun) goes home.
As for the judge's Save, they won't use it until someone is in the hot seat that they believe can win (or have been told who will win) the competition. Although it didn't work for What's-His-Name (Casey Abrams?)
-
They will definitely use it for Colton and Skylar........
-
Oooh, just found this thread, yay!!!!
Count me in as a PP fan, HA! Love that!
-
Welcome Cherilynn....we really enjoy our AI.
I'm glad you found us...it's so much fun to watch it together...since many of my friends and DD's think i'm crazy...because I do my schedule around the show.
-
-
I TIVO it but have watched it from 3rd season on - it has its ups and downs, but I still like it. Although it's just not the same wihout Simon Cowell.
-
Cherilynn64,
Yes, I also feel that AI is lacking without Simon Cowell.
-
They have definately thus far made the right decisions on not using their "save". You are right though, it's just not the same without Simon, but I do still enjoy watching it. The Whitney Houston song last week I think it was - by the other girl (can't remember her name), WOW that gave me goosebumps and actually made me cry.
-
Sheila I think you may be right about who the judges will use the "save" on! Colton or Skylar maybe Hollie?
-
Hi ladies, just got caught up from the running commentary everyone posted. I didn't watch either show until last night.
think Heejun should have definitely gone home. Loved it when Steven Tyler nailed him on his performance...he is someone who would do well in a "show" type atmosphere ala Branson theaters or a show like that. With the comedy shtick and the dry persona. He can sing just fine, but he is not cut out to be a recording artist.
Can't believe Randy Jackson made the Brad Paisley comment about a Garth Brooks song - he is pretty knowledgeable in the industry and that was a silly mistake. Maybe it wasn't as big of a hit as I remember it because I had that (at the time) cassette and remember playing the whole thing over and over so I was very familiar with the song. Had no idea that Billy Joel wrote it though.
I am cynical enough to think that it is very much controlled by the producers and such as far as who they choose to save, the order they perform, etc...And I know for a fact that the year Kris Allen won, his wife was employed at one of the states largest information providing companies here that had access to a lot of technical people who could vote for hours non stop. I like him, don't get me wrong, but that's the truth!
Still loving PP and Colton...and Sklyar but she didn't do a great job on the song this week. I think Elise will go the way of Erika unfortunately - she doesn't have the fan base to pull in big numbers.
I think though like someone else said that by the time they get to this point, they have enough exposure that even if they are voted off, they will get a record deal of some sort.
-
O.K. Here's a little tidbit for all you SANJAYA fans out there...
(Remember him? Faux-hawk?)
DH and I were book-shopping in our favorite thrift store this morning, and look what we found!!!
I know y'all SO want to read all about the "Memoirs of the People's Idol"......I think you can order this on Amazon!!!
-
I wonder where Sanjaya is and what he is doing now? LOL! He really was a cute kid all other things aside he could have been a model for Tiger Beat Magazine.
There are many idols that don't get contracts and then there are those that pursue other things like acting such as Diana DeGarmo on Y&R
-
I went to the Vote for the Worst web site and Heejun is their pick to vote for. Sad but true. I thought he looked embarassed. There are many posts there where people think he has a master plan to punk AI. Real people are being hurt by this and Heejun looked like he knew it.
Ginger long time AI fan.
-
Welcome to all who are posting here for the first time!! The more, the merrier!
And Sanjaya.... Wasn't he one of the ones that, while he wasn't all that good, people banded together to vote him through?
Mimi.... I do remember Tiger Beat and he would have fit in perfectly with my personal fave David Cassidy or maybe Donnie Osmond.... Lol....
Diana Degarmo as Angelina on Y&R is doing a great job, especially when she was playing the part of a really bad singer when we all know she can really sing... Just didn't like that she broke up Kevin and Chloe..... Lol -
Yes Sanjaya is one of the first where they voted for him longer than he should have stayed on the show. I think they think they are funny buit I think it is mean to the contestants. My sense of humor is much simpler than theirs I think.
GInger
-
I couldn't agree with you more Ginger about Sanjaya. I don't like vote for the worst... they really are in poor taste and don't realize how much they hurt people. Some day it will come back to them and I'm afraid they will not like it very much especially if it's by way of their children or grandchildren.
Seaside how did you know that David Cassidy and Donny Osmond were my favorites?!! I also loved Leif Garrett and Shaun Cassidy too back in the day... LOL!! Da doo run run run da doo run run run... haha!!!
-
Last night watched the results for AI.
First, I think the hair changes for Erika was too drastic though lovely, but did no favors to get her fans to vote. Some change, yes, a new person, no. Her voice is awesome, I think she could sing her entire life and make a wonderful living, w or wo a contract anywhere.
Second, I am a Joshua fan, but I too couldl not feel his connection to the song this week and he tried something new that was sugggested then was rebuked, and that ticks me off, these coaches and judges need to be consistent......
......though I think Colton could be the AI this season. He seems to have it all.
But would not be surprised if DeAndrea gets it because he is so beautiful and the votes would come from a multitude of fan groups. He has to mature and quick. Pick the right songs and stop the high energy and repetitive moves, he is stuck at age 12 or something, and being pulled and diswayed by coaches and judges and Jimmy, they need I repeat, need to be clear, not hand out a singleand unclear directive.
I too think Erika will go home soon. Hollie was so good, what were they talking about? And Jessica, she is good, but something about her, I prefer she not win. And Skylar is stuck, yes, and that Heejun needed to go home before the top 24, certainly the judges fault there for bringing him in for whatever reason they thought they had, they need to be more careful because there were so many multitudes more talented and with a better singing voice, they FORGOT they were looking for the American Idol, and he doesn't have the package, and I do not mean that he is Asian at all, no part of it.
Hahaha who did I miss. I am 55 tomorrow and this is one of my favorite shows, love musical and dance comps of all types, always have. Last month meet an 85-yr oldman who loves AI the best too, never misses a minute. Good to have people to share it with.
-
Welcome to the group Essa like everyone says the more the merrier!!! Skylar is my favorite and I think she is singing a Miranda Lambert song this week... I can't wait to see what she does with it!!
-
Welcome essa, we are all crazy fans here, you'll love watching with us, we have a good sized group. I agree with you on Erika, hair change too drastic too dark, she does have a beautiful voice and if Hailey R. can get a contract Erika certainly can. Heejun should not have made the top 10 at all, he treats everything like a joke. Meet you back here on Monday night. Karen
-
Hailey R was somehow incoherent in her look, song and presentation. IMHO her hair was way overdone. If she were a country singer maybe it would work. I was disappointed she seemed much older than I think she is. I feel for the kids on AI who go on this huge tour with thousands of screaming fans and when it is over I think the let down must be huge.
-
Gingerbrew you are right about that. I follow Katie Stevens on twitter from a couple of years ago and she was so beautiful, young and had a magnificent voice. But very young and inexperienced kinda like Hollie, never developed a big following. She has yet to receive a contract. She does a lot of cover songs and puts them out on youtube so people can hear her music. But she is just one of many that hasn't gotten to further her career. She is really good friends with Pia and Lauren though.
-
Ohhh....Haley Reinhart...I remember her as a contestant...one more growl and I thought I would throw the remote through the TV screen.
Thursday night she started to sing, and I turned to DH and said "This is why she didn't win." and hit the "Mute" button until she was done.
And that other singer - Lana Del Rey - who the heck was that? She never would have even made it through an AI audition, yet we were all treated to her snoozer of a performance....until I found ...you got it! The MUTE button!!!!
Next week - contestants will take on songs from their own idols. American Idols or other idols? Not sure. The following night offers up performances from Nickin Minaj (oh, goody) and Scotty McCreery.
Rumor has it that the guest mentor will be Stevie Nicks.
-
Confessing, I muted Haley part way through too.I had recorded the show so I fast forwarded through the other one.
