Did my labs this morning. I have not heard anything back on my mammo. Since it was last Friday, I am assuming that no news is good news. I meet with my MO next Tuesday.
-
Got my mammo letter. It said that there is area they believe to be benign, but want to look at it again in 6 months. I am glad I meet with my onc and breast surgeon next week. If they aren't concerned, I won't be.
-
It's all good, Ladyboss! Yeah!
Hey Rossileo - your hair must be longer by now. Mine is all thick curls; like a berber carpet.
-
Diana,
Glad to hear that your mammo looks OK. When I get mine I wait for the radiologist to look at it before I go, so at least Im not in suspense for a few days.
Phillybird, my hair is a bit wavy at the top but really curly at the nape of my neck. Really strange. Will see if I can get a good picture to post. -
I am just curly all over. But everyone loves it and it sure is better than no hair! I can drive at highway speed with the windows down and not a hair on my head is out of place!!
Happy Spring to all.
-
Met with my MO and BS on 3/20. The mammo is good. BS says that the radiologist was seeing scar tissue from my lumpectomy. Thank God! Labs were good as well. My next appt is in 6 months.
My hair is actually starting to curl a little - now that it has gotten longer. We'll see. I am just happy to have hair. And it has come in THICK.
-
Hi ladies wishing you all Happy Spring. Spring Sounds so lovely from the descriptions by everyone in the other boards. Wish I was there! It's been raining here daily but still hot and humid. Had a great holiday in Hong Kong and now I am planning my next short break:) giving myself little incentives every few months so as to ensure I stay free from stress. Thinking of Bangkok in April and Australia in June.
-
Yes, happy spring! Temperatures in the 80s in chicago for the past week. The short hair is cool but I dont like it. My friends and colleagues compliment me on it so I should be happy that it looks nice. I just don't think I look like me.
Next appointment with oncologist in a week and a half. Keeping my fingers crossed. -
Keep us informed, Rossileo! I don't like my short hair either. Everyone else seems to love it, though. I DO like the ease of it. I may keep it short, but not this short.
The weather here in Ft. Worth, TX has been wonderful. We sleep with our windows open at night to keep from running the AC. The days are warm and sunny. Love it!
-
Thinking positive thoughts, Rossileo!
More on the hair - I agree that when I look in the mirror, I continue to do a double-take. It doesn't look like me, even though everyone loves it. Maybe I miss looking different every day with all my wigs - different colors and style on a whim. No more theater; just back to a new reality.
Enjoying the weather here in Philly too.
-
I have decided to keep my hair short and sassy. Like you everyone compliments the short hair look. More importantly I feel happy with it as its so easy to maintain, wash and dry fast....
-
today I see a gynecological oncologist about having my ovaries removed. Will keep ya'll posted.

CANNOT GET USED TO THESE "CHEMO CURLS"! MY HAIR WAS VERY LONG BUT WAVY. NOW I HAVE THESE TIGHT PIN-CURLS LIKE THE OLD FASHIONED GRANDMA HAIR. ITS SILVER AND WHITE. I DID COLOR MY HAIR BROWN BEFORE. I AM A GRANDMA BUT 57 YEARS YOUNG ! I AM NOT READY FOR FOR THIS LOOK. ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO RETURN TO PRE-CHEMO HAIR? ALSO ANYONE HAVING PAIN IN THEIR BREAST SINCE RADIATION. MINE IS VERY SWOLLEN, HARD, AND LATELY VERY ACHY, AND SORE.

great to hear from you and that you have hair!! Remember, hair is better than
no hair - even if it is curly. I am repeating that mantra everyday as I curse
my thick, curly locks. Not everyone gets a curly result, and my understanding
is that your hair is very likely to go back to what it was before, but it will
take about a year for the follicles to go back to normal. I suggest you do what
I did - go see your hairdresser and get a dye job to your liking and then get
it cut in a trendy shape that works with the curls. You will need to use "product" to work it
into place too.Regarding pains post rads; my doctors tell me they are normal and should resolve with time. However, you should definitely check with your docs, especially if you have lots of swelling.
-
TheaterCat,
Yup. Hate those curls. I am sooo tempted to cut them off and start over again. When my hair first began to grow back it was actually sort of cute and pixie-like. Now it's grandma hair, so you have company. But if I cut it off, it still might come back curly, so I'm going to wait it out. I've considered putting mousse on it to dampen it down (I like the look after I get out of the shower) but haven't decided for sure.
As PhillyBird says -- be happy that we have hair. One of my friends who went through treatment a couple of years ago never got all of her hair back and she's still wearing a wig because she's too embarrassed at how thin her hair is.
Just saw my oncologist yesterday and she says all looks good. Breast is also still swollen - bigger than the one that DIDN'T have surgery, but it only aches a little bit.
-
Hi watch out for the itch and swell. Mine started out very itchy and I could Not help but scratch and then the swell seemed to have built up slowly over time. Next thing I know the sharp throbbing pain came in and I have seroma of the breast. An infection by staph aureus bacteria which is common on our skin but had found its way into my breast. Had tremendous pain and on n off fever for close to 3 months. Took 3 courses of antibiotics and at least 3 aspirations to get pus out of breast. Lesson learnt: don't scratch.
-
Hey guys! My surgery is scheduled for 4/24. I am having it all taken out . . .
My hair is still NOT curly. It maybe has a little wave to it, but that is all. I mousse it every morning, then blow dry it. I am liking my full head of hair.
I have not had any pain in my breast. I have been religious about putting lotion on it every day, and I have not had any problems.
Diana
-
Diana, u brave gal! All the best for the surgery!
-
Diana, hope your surgery goes well tomorrow!
-
Good luck, Diana!! Hope you heal up quickly and bouce back.
-
Thank you everyone! I am more nervous than when I had my lumpectomy. I shouldn't be, but . . . surgery is surgery. I will post as soon as I feel decent. HUGS! - Diana
-
Hey guys! PhillyBird reminded me to check in. I have just been a total lazy butt for the past two weeks. The surgery went well. I am doing good. I have my follow up with the doc today. I hope to go back to work on 5/10. I had surgery on 4/24 and stayed the night in the hospital. The first 3 days was rough, but after that I got stronger every day. I am assuming the path report came in as clear of cancer - since no news is usually good news.
-
Yeah, Ladyboss! You are a brave lady indeed. I have my first follow-up mammo next week. Will let everyone know how that goes.
-
Congrats Ladyboss .... Lately I have been having so much bone and muscle ache all over especially in my lower back. Got worried and rang my onco and he called for blood tests for tumor markers. Results back today and my markers are all within range. Hurray!
-
Ladyboss, glad to hear all went well. I was beginning to worry a little since we didn't hear from you.
Frances, good news on your tumor markers! And PhillyBird, hope you have good news on your mammo.
I'm heading off for China this Saturday. Been feeling a bit tired recently and hope I'm recovered enough by the end of the week so that I can enjoy the trip. Will bring my iPad so I should be able to check in once in a while.
-
Yay! I am back to work today. I feel pretty good, it was just hard to get up at the crack of dawn after two weeks of sleeping in . . .
FrancesC: Yay for the good tumor markers. Remember, the maintenance drugs they put us on causes some of that.
PhillyBird: good luck on those mammos. I got really stressed prior to mine in March. But that's the life we live now.
Rossileo: Have fun in China! We'll be watching for your "check-ins"
-
Ladyboss I know how you feel being back at work:) I was so happy to feel having some control back in my life.
Rossileo wow China! You are nearer me now LOL. Which part?
Phillybird : let us know how mammo went. My petscan is due June and I am starting to worry ..... -
Well, today is my first completely normal day. I went to the gym this morning and did a light workout. I will work a full day today, and go to my volunteer job tonight. I love it when things are the way they are supposed to be.
-
Ladyboss. Yes soooo nice when you can just have a normal day and not think at all about the big C word. Enjoy.
I arrived in Shanghai yesterday afternoon and rendezvoused with my sister and friend without any problems.
Today we wandered around the city and enjoyed all the great food that is everywhere. Adjusting to the time zone pretty well. Tomorrow off to Sichuan (szechuan) province where we will go hiking for three days in the mountains close to Tibet. -
Post pictures Rossileo:) Must be gorgeous!
If you are going high up in the mountains be careful of altitude sickness. Recently 2 Singaporeans went hiking high up in the same tibetan mountain areas and were struck by altitude sickness and didn't make it back.
