AnneW - jewelry making?? There's a creativity thread here full of people who'd LOVE to see your work!
HappyLibby - some good music there, but for some reason this is the song stuck in my head today...
-
Oh, those were just the CDs on my desk at the moment I was typing the post. Never fear, I have the Doors and Simon & Garfunkel. Scoot, don't have any on your list. I'm old, so I kind of stopped at 1980 or so, with some rare exceptions like Lowen & Navarro (who of course were already on the computer). I'm just doing some catch-up ripping to stock my music sticks while I have time.
-
Yep, TheNewMe, for some reason that song was an earworm for me today too!

-
Hey BinVa, here's one for you since you said you're feeling lazy today.

-
Does anyone remember this song?
-
OMG, YES!!!! BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
We need a BCO theme song playlist, LOL!!!
-
Oh I'm loving that one, Scoot! Especially the parakeet in the beginning! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
-
I thought you'd like that, HL!
-
I love Stevie Ray Vaughn ... any other fans out there?
thenewme .. You're cracking me up with that song!
Scoot .. that song is so funny .. is that our theme song? It's perfect.
hugs,
Bren

A theme song would be great!
It is nice and warm here...the sun is shining and the snow is melting...YAY!
I have decided to apply for a Graduate Cerificate, and I have to write a Letter of Intent. I have total writer's block.
-
A theme song - that would be cool - it could be played every night at a certain time at the BCO B&G (which, BTW, is open - just heard from our pastor).
I confess to a LOVE of the song "Back in Black" by AC/DC - I knew that sort of rock is not everyone's favorite.
-
HL
I LOVE Kate Wolf....have all her cd's - what a loss to lose her so young....
BCO theme song - FOREVER YOUNG
-
Well, one skirt is cut out, the pattern pieces for another skirt, a blouse and a jacket are cut out and ready to be pinned to the fabric. The directions for my granddaughter's dress gave me a headache. All in all not a bad day. That little baby dress will be the hardest because it has so many options. I have to make so many decisions. Unfortunately when I went to get the pattern, I bought more fabric. It will, though, make a very nice outfit.
A theme song hmmm...
-
Sunflowers, it is so nice to find someone else who knows Kate Wolf! I have all of her CDs, too .... And I often think of what a terrible loss to folk music that she died so young.
I have a suggestion for a theme song ... I invoked it somewhere else (I think either on the atheist thread or here): "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty. Maybe too militant for some, but it has been pretty much my theme song for the last 20 years!

The website SpaceWeather.com explains all about the current sunspots etc.
They say that the peak "geomagnetic storm" from the latest flare is supposed to hit the Earth at midnight tonight (Wednesday night) CST. Bren, that's 1 a.m. where you are, right? But they say "plus or minus 7 hours," and they also point out that there has been geomagnetic activity going on all day today -- we just can't see it. I guess it can mess up cell phones and other electronic communications. When it gets really bad, the airlines even reroute planes that would ordinarily fly over the North Pole to get to Asia or Europe.
Anyway, if you get a chance, go outside at midnight tonight and look toward the north to see if the aurora borealis are (is?) active tonight. I haven't seen them (it?) since I moved south 30 years ago.

Susieq,
Just saw an article about "fog" in a town in New South Wales, Wagga Wagga, that is actuallly thousands of spider webs. Just a little too creepy for me. May have to rethink my Bucket List trip to Aussie land. Going to have a hard time sleeping tonight with thoughts of spiders running amuck.
-
Cheryl - I haven't seen that yet - yes we do get lots of spiders. Wagga Wagga has just been flooded, so that might explain the spiders.
I'm a big Doors fan, also Black Sabbath, Neil Young, Crosby Stills Nash & Young etc etc - all the 70's stuff. Really love heavy metal of any kind.
Went back to work today and spent most of it in a workshop. This chick said she had never seen me so positive and helpful in a workshop before ???? I don't recall ever being in one with her - oh well - chemo brain. I was helpful because I knew the area of the software they were discussing. I must tell my team leader what she said seeing I've been in a bit of trouble lately. I've been stolen to work on a new secret project - not to my liking as it involves outsourcing to India - hate that sort of thing. We're not allowed to tell anyone what it involves as they haven't decided to go ahead yet, but the work we will do will be helpful anyway. There are only 2 programmers on it, me and this Chinese guy - I can't tell what he knows or is good at, so I feel like I'll probably end up doing all the work - or maybe I'll have to teach him.
Had to walk to another building for the workshop and I think the exercise might have helped my sciatica. I left before the others and took my time, but my knees didn't like it
The pain seems a bit less today, so maybe I'm on the mend. Can't wait until next Wednesday - my last Zometa infusion and I'm getting my hair straightened. Not sure how straight it will end up, but the hair dresser recommended Cacau a Brazillian treatment that should remove most of the frizz. She uses it and said it is less damaging than chemical straightening. I'll have to get Steve to take a new pic of me and change my avatar.

HL - Thanks for the "I Won't Back Down" earworm. Darn you, Tom Petty! Maybe we should have special t-shirts made for the 50-million women march in September. :-D
Oh God, a fog of spider webs? That can't be true? It sounds like a Stephen King novel titled (sh)IT!
Go Covert Anjou! I always use the "stream of consciousness" method for writing. Just close my eyes and start typing out random sentences. Just the action of putting thoughts on virtual paper helps get the process going. Of course, that could also be why I'm not a great writer. :-D
Good luck with the straightening, Sue! What will your grandkids do without their Woolly Coo grandma??
-
Morning Everyone!
Scoot .. I've got that song in my head too. Those spiders are scaring me. I hate spiders, that's why I have a bug man come out every month and spray.
Susie .. Your new hairdo sounds wonderful. Hope it works out .. we'll want to see a picture. Regarding outsourcing to India, I am adamantly against it. Outsourcing has really hurt the business I'm in as transcription is routinely done in India now.
Covertanjou .. How exciting for you. I wish you all the best. Is a graduate certificate the same as our Masters or Doctorate degree?
Should be a nice day today .. already in the mid 60's .. too bad rain is on the way. Spring is coming though! My bradford pear trees are blooming .. yay!
Hope everyone has a great day,
Bren
PS .. Otter .. I didn't get to see the solar flash. I was sound asleep.
-
A lot of your medical insurance processing is also outsourced. A lot of radiology scans are also read overseas. I feel for you Bren. Did you ever notice sometimes when you call to ask a question you cant understand them. You can asked them to switch you back to talk to someone in the states. Grrrr.
-
Hi Sewingnut! Yes .. I have a hard time understanding the Indian helpers on the phone. They do transcription work for 3 cents a line, really cutting into our business over here. In the old days, transcriptionists would make 12-14 cents a line. We could earn a living. Not anymore. Those days are long gone. I make less now than I did 10 years ago.
hugs,
Bren

Aww Bren.....spiders are our friends! Anything that eats those friggin' mosquitos is o.k. by me. My husband is petrified of spiders, like heart attack inducing. I sent him out to the garage the other day to clean out our central vac canister and I heard a blood-curdling, girlie scream. I thought he got electrocuted because some wires are exposed. Nope, just a spider. (I was worried the neighbours heard and would call the police!)
-
I like spiders, too, but a fog of spider webs? UCK.
-
It is Stephen King-y, isn't it. Kind of like "The Mist", only spider webs. "There's something in the mist. Something in the mist took John Lee". LOL
-
Oh ick. A fog of spiderwebs. I have nightmares like that. I dreamed one night that there was a black hairy spider the size of my fist in the corner of the bedroom near the ceiling. I almost gave my poor husband a heart attack when I screamed as I woke up. It wasn't one of those strangled, in-your-dreams-screaming-but-moaning-in-real-life things -- this was a bloodcurdling, full-throated I-am-being-murdered yodel. He reassured me there was no spider, but I was too scared to go back to sleep for a long time. Ugh.
I'll have to frighten myself with something else before I go to bed tonight to make sure I don't dream of big hairy spiders. Hmmmm ... what could that be?
J/K.L
-
Gracie .. the little ones don't bother me .. it's the big Brown Recluse walking across the living room floor that scares the bejeezuz out of me. I'd rather have a mouse in the house.
Happy .. I can relate to that dream! I have night terrors regularly. I had a big hard flying thing land on my neck one night while I was in bed. I swatted it away and it thumped against the wall. Think it was some kind of locus. No way could I go back to sleep after that.
Trying to find some motivation to get to the store today. Work is slow this week ... wahhh.
hugs,
Bren
-
OMG ... it's not bad enough you put that "They're coming to take me away" earworm in my head. Now you are torturing me with stories of spiders and massive spider webs. Ick ... ack
Hate spiders ... used to go into panic mode but had to fake it when daughter was little so I didn't pass the phobia on so not so bad now.
I like Stephen King books too. But dense fog really freaks me out and I blame him for that.
Rain just ending here now ... coming your way Bren. My sister does medical transcription too. Her small hospital still does it in house with it only going to a contractor (India) if they get backlogged. They are worried of course about losing it all. The thing is that the doctors hate it when their stuff is sent away because there are too many error but nobody cares what they think either ... the Administrators make all the decisions.
Hi otter! I looked outside at midnight last night but saw nothing.
-
I already worked on one project that involved commercial insurance claims being processed in India. Now they're looking at Workers Compensation and Compulsory Third Party claims and payments being processed there. One good thing is that the WorkCover regulator will have to approve it and they might not. We are also in the process of outsourcing the Production Support and Maintenance services of our Claims software to China - now that one really threatens my job. Luckily, so far, they're still using us locals for new projects, but the day will come when they will consider the software complete and not have any new projects. Maybe I will have retired by then.
Here's a pic of the spiders - freaks me out:
Scoot - you remembered me saying I looked like a wooly coo
I sure do in the morning. I've been growing it for some time now but it's still not heavy enough to drag the curl out, so this treatment is now my only hope. I figured, seeing I was having the day off for the infusion I might as well take advantage of the free morning. -
Athena
Pictures when I'm done. That won't be soon.
Spiders. I don't hate spiders but I don't love them either. DH does. If he had his way I would never kill one.
