Charleston Bound, part 2

Liz- Sorry to hear what you're going through! I went through a divorce many years ago, although not with kids or that many years behind me, and I have to say--after going through these surgeries the last few years, I don't think it would devastate me as much now as it did then. I think you can only see it as moving toward something more positive and healthy, for you and your kids. But I know right now must suck, and I'm sorry you have to go through it.
Don't worry about the nip, there's skin under the scab. I had that. My new nip from 12/29 is still pretty big around, I don't know if it's going to shrink enough. Wondering how long to give it. It's been about 7 weeks. What do you think, 12 weeks to assess total shrinkage?
Adey- If you're like me you'll probably get a butt lift first (with drains--sorry). She'll probably also lift your boobs to give them a better shape. She likes to let lifts settle before doing the nips so she's sure where they'll end up. You might have lipo to resculpt your donor site and/or harvest fat for transfer into/around your flaps. Stage 2 the 2nd will probably be more minor... scar correction, any remaining dog-ear issues, some fat grafting if you still need some, and nipples.
-
Adey- Both of my Stage 2's were in Charleston.
My first one, she did alot of lipo from my inner thighs (3 liters), some sculpting in the pubic area, removal of fat necrosis in 2 areas of the breasts, then filled in with fat.
My second one was more lipo (2.5 liters) from lower back, waist, DIEP scar revision, dog ear removal, a divot corrected where fat necrosis had been removed during 1st Stage 2, nipple recon, 9 moles removed, a skin lesion removed & biopsied, 11 skin tags removed.
I know it sounds like alot, but my first Stage 2 was the worst....the inner thigh lipo area was severely painful. Hardly any pain after 2nd Stage 2. First one was a 3 hr surgery.....2 drains. Second was about 6 hrs and no drains. Both were overnight and most of the next day in the hospital. Now ready for tattoos sometime this summer!!
Like jeskachi said, Marga really wants to make sure the nips will be located in the right position before doing them, and therefore everything needs to be settled. She will make sure you are happy:)
-
I am a bit nervous about lipo as everyone says it is very painful. They manage that pain, right? Nervous but still can't wait and very excited. (c:
-
It really depends on how much you're having. I just had some on my love handle area, above my SGAP incision (bunny tail) and a little on the outside of my thighs. I didn't have much pain at all. I really only knew she did lipo because there was bruising on my lower thigh (the blood tends to gravitate down). I think inner thigh lipo is more painful than other areas.
-
Yes, they do manage the pain:) I'm just not very good at asking for pain meds. But I literally couldn't move my legs in any position after the thigh lipo, and the nurses were trying to get me to get up...just a memory now. The pain does resolve fairly quickly.

Thanks j & j!

Liz, You are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this transition. You are a strong, beautiful woman and will get through all of this in time. Your Kids will be your strength. Your son already showed you that by being by your side for your last surgery, and I am sure you have many, many close friends to support you though this also. We are all sisters and are here for you no matter what the reason.
(((hugs))), Linda

Hi, I do not post much, but after much research, reading, and LOTS of obsessing I am excited and scared to tell you that I finally made my decision. I am scheduled for a unilateral SGAP with Drs. Kline and Craigie on June 7. Have 2 daughters graduating college this spring which will require some travel so delayed my date a bit. I have talked to a few of you here and want to thank you in helping make my decision. I am starting to make my travel arrangements, think there is some sort of art festival going on so hotels are filling up. I will stay in Charleston area for about a month,so looking at condos. I live out in the middle of nowhere in Wash state so afraid of returning home and experiencing complications. Not sure how I can take a month off from everything, but this is too important so I will figure it out. Anyways, I will continue to read and learn from all of you brave women who have gone before me. Please let me know if there is anything you wish you would have known or done before surgery. There does not seem to be many on the schedule above, how do I get my name up?
-
cascader- I'm originally from the pacific nw, Seattle, Des Moines, Vancouver (WA not BC). (c: Anyway, try www.VRBO.com for condos. Congrats on your decision!
-
Cascarder: Congrats with deciding on your surgery. Dr. Kline was the assisting for my bilateral SGAP I had Dr. Massey). I have only heard the very best things about him - you will be in great hands. Expect to continue with the obsessing until June - the surgery was all that I thought about/all I talked about until it was finally over. Then you get to obsess about the healing and the results! But I promise, eventually it all sinks in and you actually stop thinking about it all the time! (And you forget about what life was like before the surgery - like I can hardly believe I actually had to wear a prosthetic and had just 1 breast - and I waited 5 years for reconstruction).
Thanks to all for the kind words of encouragement during my difficult time. The kids and I are hanging in there. Take care! Liz
-
cascader, I think a month in a condo in Charleston sounds devine!!! And probably very smart. You're going to love it. Dr. Kline assisted Marga on my surgery, too. I never saw him, but I can attest to the quality of his work!
Liz, glad you're doing okay. Been thinking about you!
-
Adey- have been looking on vrbo.com, great site, waiting to hear back from a few. one of the less expensive places is a senior community with assisted living. while i am not quite a senior yet, i think after surgery i would fit in perfectly with the rest
LizR-altho you dont know it, you have been quite an inspiration. I have seen your photos and if I can look anything close to your recon I will be thrilled! Obsessing is what I seem to do best.
AnneW-I am a former Boulderite. Married there and lived there for 11years, miss it so. Now living in Wash state in a tiny ski town where there are LOTS of Boulder people and former Buffs. Funny to see Ralphie on cars around here!
Thank you all, you are a wealth of information.
Lisa
-
Lisa, small world! When did you move away from Boulder? I've been here since 1996 (except for a three year break) and it's hard to imagine being anywhere else!
My step kids live in WA. One in downtown Seattle, the other in Sedro Woolley...
-
AnneW, we left Bldr in the late 80's, so it has been awhile, but will always be "home" to me.
Now live over the hill from Sedro Wooley, same hwy 20, but the other side of North Cascades Natl Park, literally at the end of the road.
-
I checked on Mamachick yesterday at the hospital. She looks great. And she was about to take her first shower since surgery-- Oh, I remember what a wonderful feeling that was!
-
Better Body, Thanks for the update on Mama Chick. Tell her we are all thinking of her and wish her well and great healing. Linda
-
Hey, there! Are any of you gals attending Dr. Massey's conference in DC on Sat, Mar 17?
-
Tina - Not going to the March conference in DC but am scheduled to attend the April conference in NYC. At least one woman on the NOLA thread is also going to the NYC conference. Are you closer to DC? Liz
-
Tina- How about Chicago! 4/28
(c:
-
Liz, I'm near Phila. My husband I planned a long weekend in DC since it's so pretty this time of year.
I would love to make a trip to Chicago, haven't been in so long. Have a soft spot in my heart for that city. I'm actually coming off a LE flare and being fitted for new sleeve and glove, not eager to travel. Was scheduled to fly in Apr, but I may be grounded for a bit. -
Hi all! Just checking in doing well with the healing from the stage 1. A little of a shock, don't know why anyone would just want a tummy tuck, it was the worst part other than the hip drains. But with the results so far I would do it again in a heart beat. Hope you are all doing well. Just wanted to check in and say that I am alive and well!
-
Stacey- I thought the same thing after my DIEP. The severe abdominal pain was totally unexpected. I would do it again, as well. Soooo worth it. Glad to hear you are doing well. Do you have a Stage 2 date yet?
-
Adey- You're up tomorrow!! Thinking of you.
-
Good luck Adey! Your surgery, the Ides of March and the day our ex-gov goes to prison. An auspicious day. I'm thinking your day will be better than G-Rod's
Say hi to Dr. Marga for us!
-
Adey!!!! It's your time already! You'll be in the best of hands. Tell marga we love her, and let us know when you come out of the other side!!
-
Adriene, (Adey),
Best of luck tomorrow. I will be thinking of you. Keep us posted!
MamaChick. so glad to hear from you. Yes, that tummy tuck is like a sucker punch right in the gut, isn't it? you are going to love your new body.
-
Addy, thinking of you ad sending fast healing! Hugs
-
Adey - Hope you are resting comfortably and all went well! Liz
-
I'm here, feeling sore but good. (: and I have a definite stage two in my future. Getting closer and closer.
-
DC conference with Dr. Massey was terrific. It was great to see her after almost a whole year. New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, lookout! That woman's on a mission. Just love her!
