Oh dear .. I just read on Alpal's thread that we lost her early this morning. I am so sad. She was such a wonderful person, so full of spunk and caring for all.
RIP dear Allison ... you will be missed so much by all of us.
love you dear friend,
Bren
-
Be at peace Allison. Love you, my friend.

Marybe has posted the link to Allison's online condolence book. Here it is:
-
Athena .. thanks for posting the link to the condolence book. I just sent a message to Matt and Julia.
I just returned from getting my teeth cleaned at the periodontist. OMG .. I was a nervous wreck. The hygenist suggested that next time I should take some Xanax because I was shaking so bad. Need to have two fillings replaced that fell out, but I need to find a new dentist for that. arghhh. It sucks not having dental insurance.
It was 75 degrees today ... awesome day, perfect for walking the dogs in the fields!
Hope everyone is having a good day,
Bren
-
Thanks you Athena for posting the link.
Bren it was 85 here today! I had to turn on the AC last night!! Sheesh, we went from fall to summer. Not complaining, mind you.
-
So sorry to hear about Allison. I did not know her, but I know she was important to a lot of people here. I wish her and her family peace and comfort.
Barbara-I am jealous of your 85 degree weather! We had snow showers this morning in Seattle again.

I'm sad that Allison is no longer with us ... but very glad that I did get the chance to know her. She will be missed. Thanks for the link Athena.
-
So upset about Allison, I'm almost not wanting to come here any more - it's just not fair. BUT you all mean a lot to me so I'll stick around.
Love you girls
-
Allison, we miss you.

Good Afternoon Friends!
I've had a great morning. I met my sis in Roanoke for lunch and then we went shoe shopping. She bought me the most beautiful pair of black sandals. I can't wait for it to warm up so I can wear them.
The weather sucks .. it's raining like mad and the hour drive home was a little stressful.
Tim's latest idea is that I need a NOAA radio in the bedroom so that weather alerts can wake me up in the middle of the night and I can go to the basement, instead of sleeping in my bed. I think this is a bad freakin' idea.
I hope everyone is having a good day,
Bren
-
Bren,
We used to have a NOAA radio in our old Subaru. Loved it!! I'm with you about having it in my bedroom though....
-
Sewingnut ... I would like to have the NOAA radio, but I don't want it in the bedroom. Since Tim is always on the road, he has become addicted to the weather channel! I get hourly updates ... arghh ... who needs NOAA when I've got Tim calling!
hugs,
Bren
-
Rabbit .. Hope you can check in ... looks like very nasty weather in your area.
Also in the area where Allison lived. Thinking of her family.
Bren
-
Bren:
You need the NOAA radio and maybe in a room adjoining the bedroom - you can set it to only alert you for your county - it saved me a few times in South Carolina I can tell you - especially in the ice storms when trees were falling like matchsticks - also I spent a few nights in the cellar during tornado warnings - not fun but I see Tim's point (sorry!)
Hugs, Sandy

I've been glued to the TV all afternoon, watching those red-hot storm cells slip across the map. So far, we've been in the clear, although the sky is dark and tumbly and the wind is sticky. There's lightning on the horizon, but that cell is moving north of us.
I wanted to buy a NOAA weather radio. All the regional TV weather people schedule programming sessions at WalMart, grocery stores, etc., so once you buy a radio, they'll set it up to only alarm for warnings in a particular county. They were at our local grocery store this week, but dh said he didn't want a radio waking him up in the middle of the night. He gets grouchy enough when the weather people take over the TV broadcast and do nothing but talk about the weather (as they've done today). He thinks they're being alarmist. (In his defense, he is from Oklahoma, so he knows about tornadoes.)
I do like the weather radio band on my Subaru. We use it a lot when we're traveling. I read the other day about swapping out the factory radio with an after-market one that has more bells and whistles. The drawback is that I would lose the weather band -- apparently, it's not available on any other car radios except the ones from Subaru.
I wish we'd had Brussel sprouts for supper. I get these cravings sometimes.
otter
ETA: Just to clarify-- we do have NOAA weather radios in the house, but they're not the programmable kind that wake you up in the middle of the night. Plus, our local TV weather guys do a much better job than the NOAA recorded voice does anyway.
-
All is well in my neck of the woods ... just some small hail, rain and lots of wind for us. They were not so lucky in southern Indiana though ... some major damage in those areas.
I don't normally have the TV on in the daytime but I definitely want it on when we have bad storms and appreciate them staying with the storm coverage. And I have a Subaru and didn't have a clue about any weather band radio ... will be checking that out. The things I learn here are never ending!
Kentucky and Tennessee were getting it worse and I'm pretty sure I read about a tornado in Alabama. And it was all headed to Ohio after us. Hope everybody in those areas is OK!
Bren ... Tim just luvs you ... but that doesn't make it less annoying does it. At least he hasn't rigged up a trap door and a remote control to dump you in the basement when he thinks you should go.

-
We visited some friends in Ohio last summer, and drove from their home in Southern Ohio to Destin, Florida. I told my husband the tornado map is basically the route we drove. Scary. I remember we drove through pouring down rain in Kentucky and I was scared to death. We left Nashville on the way home a half day early because we heard storms were coming. We get a lot of rain here in the Seattle area, but nothing like that.
Mary

I fear for the summer. It felt like 70 degrees here yesterday. Expect MUCH complaining over the summer months, and I apologize in advance.
-
I fear for OUR summer here. We were lucky to break 70 most of last year. You haven't heard complaining until you've heard summer-deprived Seattleites.

My old Subaru had weather band radio, my new one doesn't. I miss it but this car has so much that I did want.
I am glad we get along here and do not resort to deleting by the Community. Nuff said.
I am taking my 5 1/2 year old grandson to see The Lorax in 3-D. A movie and McDonalds was one of his birthday oresents so I am a little late. I am looking forward to time alone with him.
-
Morning Everyone!
The storm passed by last night while I was sleeping. Now they"re calling for snow tomorrow night. I just wish it would be spring and stay that way.
Does anyone know when daylight savings time starts? I think it's next weekend. Yay!!
Rosemary ... have a great time with your grandson today. Isn't The Lorax someone's screen name?
Rabbit .. the thought of that trap door scares me to pieces .. because Tim would think it's such a great idea. I did do some checking on Amazon for NOAA radios. They really aren't that expensive.
Hope everyone is having a good day.
hugs,
Bren

Dang it, WR, now I have to go on-line and check the specs on new Subarus. I'm on my 2nd Outback, but this one is getting some years on it ("long in the tooth," as they say in the country). Hubs didn't want another one because the seats in this one are stiff and not very comfortable. But, he rode in a brand-new Outback (well, 2011 I think) and loved it. Loss of the weather band may be a deal-breaker for me. Already I'm not too crazy about sacrificing rear compartment storage capacity for more leg room. (Can you tell I have short legs?)
otter
-
Wow Bren
You have a good memory. I had to look that up. The movie takes a very short book and makes a full length movie out of it. We will see how good it is.
Otter
I have a new Outback and I love it. If we need more cargo space we put the back seats down. Can you tell my DH is quite tall and loves the legroom?
-
Yeah, dh says his legs trump my groceries.

I don't know what we'll do about a new car. We just bought a new pickup truck a month ago, and it's so comfortable that dh wants to take it everywhere (instead of the '03 Suby).
Snow, Bren? SNOW??? Our redbuds and wild plum trees are blooming. They're not early; they're right on schedule. I do think the blueberry bushes are early, though. They'll probably get nipped by a late freeze.

Otter, I had 3 Outbacks. Loved them. But got a deal on a used Lexus RX350 si I went for that instead.
Sorry, Athena, 75-80 is perfect for me. I feel your pain. DC so sucks in summer.
-
Exactly, Barbara - coastal Florida is far more bearable. Spent a year and a half in the East side as an adult and two years in the West side as a child. I prefer the ocean breeze. But also Florida is more bearable because everything is air conditioned. DC is spotty - especially Metro.
Bren, did you say snow?
-
Athena .. I read on NOAA that the temps tomorrow night will be below 32 degrees and snow/rain is forecast. I'm sick of it. It's turned out to be a beautiful day today and I want spring to get here now!
Where I live, we have a nice breeze most of the summer, which helps with the high humidity. Of course, I run the AC all summer!
But these warmer temps are sure helping cut back on my heating fuel consumption. Geez .. a 100 gallons is about $375 now. It's outrageous!
I hope everyone is having a nice day,
hugs,
Bren
-
Speaking of fuel prices, yesterday's fillup cost me $70. !!!!!! I almost passed out.
-
Barbara ... our heating fuel costs run about the same as gasoline. I think our gas prices here are about $3.59 a gallon. It's well over $4 a gallon in San Diego. Every time my son fills up his truck, it's over $80 .. and he has a long commute to work. Wish he could get a teaching position closer to home.
What kind of mileage do you get in the Lexus?
Bren

Hi Friends,
I realize this may be a bit early, but are we going to NOTL again this year? I sure hope so. I need to start saving soon if we are making the trip again this summer.
Maybe I should post to Linda in the Canada forum about it.
Let me know if the U.S. gals are going again.
hugs,
Bren
