Hi, all ~ Been reading but not posting much, although I have gotten in an energetic hour walk each day. Went to the gym last night (1/2 hr/4 miles on a bike; then 1/2 hr. of weights), but had a really bad LE flare today, so will let that settle down before stressing that side again.  Oh, and as of today I've added dog walking to my daily exercise with an adorable, yet-unnamed little guy DH & I recently found at a local shelter.

Kari, I'm exhausted just reading about your busy life, but love what you shared about that Integrative Pharmacy!  Wish we had one of those here!  And so glad your LE is so much better!  YaY for that, and great going on all the jumping jacks you and everyone have been managing to squeeze in!  I should start doing that, too.

Haven't read Kate's article yet, but will do that now.  It sounds very interesting...    Deanna

Cath: I think it is OK to feel sorry for yourself occasionally, for a short time. Just after about fifteen minutes try to get up and do something positive. Like nostril breathing. I love doing that. This is my new "thing" and helps me feel great. So if this is the only thing I do for myself a day ....I am happy.

    Here is a video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCK1jBfRVsE

Deanna - how sweet! You got a doggie! Great idea and so generous of you to adopt one. What's his name? And please post a photo for us to see your new buddy.

As I sit here yawning...LOL!  Did 100 jumping jacks after my shower this morning.  I used to that each day and after Survivor's posts, I'm motivated again!  Thank you!!  I was POOPED out last night after babysitting, but managed 10 min. of yoga when I got home.  Didn't sleep that great though and another long day ahead...UGH!  Drinking green tea right now, maybe that'll motivate me, will watch for hand swelling though.

Boo Deanna on the LE flareup! UGH UGH UGH!  BUT YAY YAY YAY for the new little doggy, can't wait to see a pic and hear the name you choose.  How fun!  I'd love a little furry mate, but too many hours go by each day that the little guy/girl would be solo, so I just enjoy my DD's doggies.

Cath, good advice from Survivor, we all have those 'down' days, allow yourself so much time, then do a "down dog" and turn that frown upside down! LOL  trying to crack a smile in you there....heehee  Hugs sista

Springie, is that new project settling down?  The flowers surrounding you must make a big difference, and look you inspire us and Survivor even bought some flowers for herself!!!!  YEEHAAWWW!!!

Ok, time to get to work now, everyone have a wonderful day and let's post something positive we did today.  Now make it a great day and MOVE your buns!

I did 50 jumping jacks, 15, 15 20 sprinkled throughout the day. When I get up to go to the bathroom, on the way back! Feels good to mix it in! Thanks for the idea, Survivor!

90 minutes yoga. I may have overdone it with the inversions and upper body work tonight - I may pay for it with LE issues. Pooh. We'll see....

Hi Ladies- it is great to hear you all are enjoying your jumping jacks. I love doing them too. Yay! We found something that's fun to do at work. When we get bored with it perhaps, we can find something else. Any suggestions? Check out his video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whLaoNMWoIs

I did a lot of walking today after my Herceptin treatment at the hospital. I walked all over Chinatown, and later I ended up getting another foot reflexology. It is really affordable so why not? After I came home I felt too tired to do much. Hopefully, by tomorrow, my liver will expel all the chemicals I was pumped with and I will have some energy again.

    Keep exercising everyone!

D: Any name for your doggie?

Kfinnigan, I'm doing dowward dogs. Mood isn't improving but my cat looks really stupid upside down. Actually feeling better. Had a Pilates class, bought a new boot camp workout DVD and did level one. Did 30 minutes on my bike.

Deanna, You got a dog! Great! I walk my dog twice a day in the woods. It's kind of healing. What does your dog look like?

Survivor, foot reflexology sounds interesting. What's it do for you? I may give it a try.

LOL!! That walrus is making me look bad!!!!!!!!!!!  hahaha  Survivor, good video!  I did some desk push ups the other day...trying to think of things I can mix in my day, but I'm in an office of low cubicles, have to do things when other peeps aren't looking at me!!!

Did 100 jumping jacks this a.m. but will not get a walk in at lunch, since we are having a noon office meeting with lunch provided, boo hoo

Spring, hope you don't get LE!  keep us posted.  It really stinks that we can't do what we love, without having to "pay" for it afterward.

Cath, you made me smile with your down dog story.  LOL!  You are an exercising fool woman!!  You ROCK!

I've done that foot reflexology before too.  But have to say the last time I got a guy that wanted to crush my feet, it hurt like heck!!!!!!!!!!!  Cath, this is off of the Happy Day Spa I went to:
Reflexology is an ancient Chinese technique in which specific pressure points are massaged in order to reestablish the flow of energy throughout the body. It relieves stress and releases energy and pressure throughout the body.

Reflexologies apply pressure on "reflex zones" found on the feet, hands and the ears, which are said to correspond to the different parts of the body.

Thanks all for the encouraging words --- I was actively losing weight prior to my diagnosis on December 8th/11 and walking 5 km a day ..... then came the C word and I allowed myself permission to eat anything and everything.  I had the best pity party around.  Well I have it together now and slowly making an effort to get back at it.  I am back at Weight Watchers and going to start my 5 km walks tomorrow.  Today because of appointments and commitments I could not so I rode the bike for 30 minutes.  This has been such and emotional roller coaster and it annoys me that I have allowed it to control me the way I did.  I need to control it !!! so no more excuses .... tomorrow is a new day and like the corny saying goes  .... the 1st day of the rest of my life .... Thanks ladies for all your great comments and stories, they have helped me get focused.  ♥

The LE I think I nipped it in the bud. I wore an under armour inside out all day today and I think we're good!

Survivor, I was only able to do 15 jumping jacks today.... :(  But at least I did some!

So guess what! 75 degrees here today!! BIKE RIDE after work! YAY!!!!! C'mon Spring! (not me, the real Spring!!)

Way to get going Joanne. Weight Watchers is a good programme.

1 hour walking today and Pilates. Tomorrow I'm doing bike intervals with a friend and another Pilates class. My underarm is really starting to peel; it looks really ugly, but I'm still going sleeveless. I can't stand being too hot.

Hello Ladies - it is great to hear we are all trying to get our Qi moving (life energy in Traditional Chinese Medicine) by excersizing. I had a couple of hectic days that included visiting my onc and getting Herceptin. So, even though I was rushing all over town, I somehow managed to do some biking today. Hoo boy! It felt real good, only that now my butt hurts. I am not used to riding my bike. I did a 4 mile ride, 80 jumpingjacks and 30 rope jumps in the park. It really felt great to exercise outside in nature. Like the article said that you showed us, Spring.

Joanne- Are you doing chemo? If you are doing chemo, please consult your doctor about Weight Watchers dieting. Working out and doing some power walks while doing treatment is one thing. Exercising is really good to do. Dieting while on chemo is another story. I am worried about you b/c I lost a lot of weight during chemo. I did not need dieting at all.

Cath - about reflexology. As Kari mentioned it, well, it can be a bit painful, but I always let the people who do it know when it is too much pressure. Otherwise I feel great afterwards. It helps circulation.

But so does jumping jacks. LoL,I even suggested my onc today to do jumping jacks in between seeing patients. She thought it was a great idea too. Her only problem she said was patients misunderstanding her panting.... We had a good laugh.

Kari - desk pushups? Sounds good! You gave me a new exercise idea. Thanks!

Spring -be gentle to yourself!  Of all of us, you are the one who does the most workouts, I think 15 jumping jacks are great too. Hope your arm improved and no sign of LE.

Deanna : I really think that little dog you adopted will help you a lot. I guess, you will help each other heal better.

Joy - how are you?  Are you still working out with your doggie? Hope all is well.

Survivorwoman - Thanks for the comment but no I am not doing chemo -- radiation to start shortly and temoxifen -need to take back control and get back into a good routine which includes healthy eating and exercise, something I was doing before I was diagnosed.

This is a great thread - lots of good advice.  Thanks all.

Welcome Joanne, awesome on not having to do chemo!  Glad you found us here and happy to hear of your ongoing progress, so please stick around!!

Spring, how awesome is nipping stupid LE in the bud?  yeehaw!!!   I was able to wear my wedding rings for the first time yesterday since New Year's Eve.  But didn't wear them today, Thai food last night must have been too salty...but looks ok now, just my index finger and the base with just a teensy swelling there.  75 degrees, lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cath, sorry your skin is peeling, hope you can stay on top of it and it doesn't get too bad.  hugs  and you really do rock and inspire me, with all your workouts! wow

Survivor, Happy Birthday today!!!!!!!!!!  Hope you add a little extra something special to your day, know we all love you!!!  That photo just made me smile.  What a gorgeous setting by the water.  The water just does something to me, something special.  I LOVE IT!!  LOL on telling the onc to work in some jumping jacks, you're our little cheerleader!!  woohoo!!!

I was thinking of Joy today too, and some of the other gals that haven't posted in awhile.  Hi to ALL even if you're reading and not posting, althoug I'd love it if you did post, even to just say hi.  Its nice to know others are reading our special thread here. love you all!Kiss

Thank you Kari. Birthday was fun. Had to work, but c'est la vie..... I already kind of celebrated the day before anyway. Yesterday, I did not do any cardio work-out, except, I walked home from work in the rain. And I did it fast. Today, so far, I managed to do some jumping jacks at work.

Kate: Thanks for the idea. I should do some weightlifting too. I have two 2 lb weights at home. I could try to come up with something with those. I am so glad you stopped in and brought this up.

0 Jumping jacks Friday! Horrible day at work! Blech! I took Friday night off for rest.

Today! good day! 45 on the ellptical and 55 yoga at home! it was wonderful! I got a new yoga matt that has a little speaker in it and you can plug in your ipod, very fun! I think this will actually help me to yoga at home more regularly...

    Happy Birthday Survivor!

I should put my hand weights in the Jumping Jack room. That way I can do 15 jumping jacks and 15 pumps of weight. :)  You girls are full of good ideas!!!

A yoga mat with a spot for an iPod!? I have to havre one! Where did you get it Spring?

Survivor, prospect Park looks so tranquil. I feel better just looking at your pic.

I had the best run since my pre-chemo days today. 5 k in 32 minutes. That's good for me, so I'm starting to get some confidence back. I did get some weird dry irritation in my throat; I think it's from the rads. No doubt something else I wasn't expecting. Oh well. A good day. Hope everyone is having the same.

I did 110 jumping jacks at work today. I spread them out. Now, I have to think of doing something else that includes the weights and also think of dinner at the same time. I think I'm going to make some Indian dhal and something with kale. Lentils are good for us, btw.

Spring- thank you for the bday wish! And yes, your yoga mat sounds interesting.

Cath- yeah! I live next to that awesome park. If it wasn't so windy today, I would have gone there after work to do a quick work-out. I hope the weather improves soon and I will get to ride my bike around the two lakes we have there.

Hi Kate!!  My GDD found my hand weights and was walking around with the 1 lbers.  LOL, I had to grab all weights and stash them, didn't want her smashing her toe or something!  We had the little one last night and I just put her down for a nap, and my DH just left for the work week.  Waiting on DD to come over, we are headed to the mall for some shopping/lunch, YAY!!

My low back has been sore the last few days, I need to do some yoga, tried some yesterday after my walk but it wasn't enough, then GDD comes over and I dance and hold her, etc.  I'm pooped! ha

OH, so Friday at work, 3 times during the day while in the restroom (when nobody else was in there) I did 8 stall push ups, 8 tricep push ups!!   Another tip!...so did 64 total!  need to do jumping jacks dispersed through the day too, cause after doing 100 jacks, my calves really really hurt!

So today was chilly but we rode bikes for 50 minutes! 50 degrees! Gloves and all! it was refreshing. Went out for DH's bday celebration at a fancy place and had a GREAT meal... Ate too much!

Cdairth - It's a Gaiam yoga mat and on sale for just 14.99! Link below...

Okay survivor!!! I will try to do some jumping jacks tomorrow! Spread them out! You are the Jumping Jack Queen!!!  I have to get the hand weights in my jumping jack room That will be my goal for this week.

Kari, yoga helps when my back hurts. Maybe just lay down there and pull knees to chest and roll slightly. Or stretch *gently*. Good luck. If it doesn't get better, I personally go to a chiropractor!

Horrible day at work, besides back to back meetings, and ZERO jumping jacks, (I was lucky to get to the bathroom!) there were layoffs and at least one very wonderful guy I know was impacted. I am sure I will slowly hear of more. It is very sad. I think it may have been me if i had not jumped on this crazy kooky insane assingment that is high profile and driving me crazy.

I think tonight is a night of rest.

Went to a Pilates class and did 40 min on my stationary bike. Tomorrow is my "jog" day, which is a good thing since we are going out for dinner tomorrow night and I intend on having wine and dessert!

Me too - Spring - sorry about your bad day a work. Mine was similar, but not nearly as bad as yours. No jumping jacks here either. Well, to make the day even more strange, I had a client  at the office, a walk-in, who used to be an old boyfriend of mine. He was shopping for an apartment. Bizarro world today. Lots of negative energy. Need to take a shower to clean ourselves off Spring. I am going to use a lot of levender esential oils.
