I found a new company online (Applegate Organics) with organic and no antibiotics meats. We tried a spinach and feta sausage tonight and it was delicious. Their animals are humanely raised on family farms in a stress free environment that promotes natural behavior and socialization. The sausage that we had tonight was chicken and turkey with no antibiotics used, no nitrates, no fillers, and gluten free. Check out their website...

FYI, they do sell Applegate Organics meats at Whole Foods in the frozen section.  Not sure if it's cheaper there or on line, or if it's exactly the same or not.

Anyone use a fitness/calorie app?  I just downloaded MyFitnessPal on my iPhone.  It is not my "pal".  Rather, its the shoot from the hip "friend" that you listen to, but don't really like.

I put in my goal weight and time to goal weight, age, height and current weight.  It then calculates how many calories you should eat daily to get to that goal.  Also included is a cardio counter so that you can input your daily exercise.

So even after a 5 mile run today, with nothing for breakfast, lentil soup for lunch and mustard greens, mashed potatoes, 6oz of fried chicken and 1 pc of triple berry pie for dinner (yeah I know, but this is my treat day) I am 250 calories over my limit. I might give up the mashed potatoes, but not the chicken.  I haven't had fried chicken in a really really long time.

Corinne- I have a love-hate relationship with this app.  I must say IT WORKS. I use it to track, and also to plan.

TJ bran muffin for breakfast.  Then I am hitting my DDs vegan cookbook for some ideas...

Hi everyone sorry to be such a stranger lately.....work has me flat out every evening...

I have been staying on the band wagon, yeah! eating lots of talapia for dinner, salads for lunch (with tuna or mock chicken salad). I am trying egg whites in my diet since breakfast has just gotten weird for me.  I can't stand the smell of oatmeal (chemo thing I think, lingering I should say). So breakfast today was spinach, onions, mushrooms, with a little egg white and heated up salsa over that. cut a little avocado over that......yummy.

Oh but I had to take a gabepentin last night, and I slept so good, I got up and cooked breakfast! wondering if have my battle is bad sleep.

has anyone heard of juicing a mixture of sunflower sprouts, broccoli sprouts, and other stuff for cancer?

Today I made Greek-style cauliflower. Saute a stalk of celery, a few carrots, a large onion and 3-4 cloves garlic, all chopped, in some olive oil. Once the onion is translucent, add 2-3 tomatoes, chopped, or a small can of tomatoes, a bay leaf, salt, pepper and chopped parsley. Let simmer about 5 minutes, then add a head of cauliflower, cleaned and divided into large bouquets. Put a lid on and simmer about 20 minutes, turning a few times. Eat with good bread, and if younlike a little feta crumbled over the top.

In Greece this is a main course, for fasting times like lent, but you could obviously serve is with some steamed fish or other protein on the side.

Not sure who asked this, but I drink Matcha tea.  I actually prefer the taste to regular green tea and I guess it has the most antioxidants.  I buy bags that have a mixture of matcha and regular green tea, so not too expensive.  I guess if you buy pure, it can be pricey.

I would love to find out about this green powder as well! I bought a bag of green mix to put over salads--it contains all those fancy greens like spirulina.  I always forget to put it on though, even though I leave it on the counter.

Still haven't splurged on a juicer...

I have a new Vita Mix Blender so I've made several new soup recipes.  I did a carrot, apple, orange and ginger soup, as well as a butternut squash soup.  Both delish and very healthy for you.  Both can be eaten either hot or cold.

Am so happy to find this thread.  Everyday is achallenge for me, lerning all the new recipes and having ideas.

Catching up - a few days ago, out for breakfast.  Ordered special - Veggie Hollandaise Benedict, asked them to make it on tiny buckwheat pancakes instead of English muffins.  There was spinach and tomato, egg poached and Hollandaise.  Scrumptuous.

Last night made Stuffed green peppers, roasted them in cast iron skillet first, then filled them with mixture of brown rice, couscous, tender onion and garlic, paprika, sea salt.  Served torn apart and with organic coconut oil melted over the rice, yum.

Tonight for snack, I will have a few strawberries with th hormone-free organic yogurt and flaxseed oil, some probiotics and sunflower seed meal mixed in, maybe some crunchy steel cut oatmeal, just heated to crunch a bit.

This is a new favorite topic for me.

Thanks for the mention of matcha tea Susan. I guess that counts as a good food choice, as you ingest the whole leaf when you take it, unlike regular green teas. I've been drinking it every day since my son gave me some for Christmas.

This is the good stuff that you can froth up with a bamboo wisk. He gave me the wisk too. He had no idea about the health benefits of green tea, just that this was something a little bit different.

http://domatcha.com/why/   (check out the video how to make matcha the traditional way. I throw in a moment of meditation before drinking).

btw one serving of the ground matcha tea powder (1 tsp.) is supposed to have the health benefits of 12 to 15 cups of regular green teas.

Out with a yucky cold. I did get to Whole Foods and find the on-sale organic blueberries (thank you Cupcakies Smile) but didn't buy the whole chickens since I only use the breast.

This week has been soup, soup and soup. Minestrone, tomato, carrot and veggie with barley.  Lots of bran, berries, salad, roasted veggie combinations(my favorite was golden beets, onion and brussel sprouts)  and I am doing a good job slowly transitioning to almond milk. Sugar intake definitely under control.  Everything was going fine until last night when DH brought pizza home! OK, at least it was whole wheat, but the rest of it was sinfully bad.  Three slices later my bathroom scale is taunting me. Ah, it takes so little.

Today I am repentent, and will have leftover barley and roasted veggies for breakfast, a small organic chicken breast in curry paste with steamed asparagus for lunch and then a nice long walk.  Then off to the market to see if I can find something interesting.

     Welcome to Essa!

I've been going crazy making soups since I got my Vita Mix blender.  I first did a butternut squash soup with carrot and ginger, then a carrot, ginger, orange soup, and today a tortilla soup made with lots of veggies and chili seasoning.  I steam the carrots and veggies until just tender and it takes the sharp taste out of the soup.  I use chicken broth for more flavor but could also use vegetable broth or just water, and more seasoning.

It has been so easy to cook creatively this way...just pair the soup with a big green salad and you have a nutritious meal.

Kaara sounds so good! I used "No" chicken broth today to steam veggies, it had a better flavor than veggie broth.

Hey soldiers! I did my smoothie today,I am simple and I am only a wk out from bmx and TE so fiance abandoned me to go to work...his cooking is gross so I didnt mind...I got the blender right,I throw in a carton of Atkins chocolate Advantage Milk Chocolate Delight Shake 11 oz.,then a handful of triple washed organic spinach, then a cupful of great value berry medley from walmart, and 1 scoop of whey factors french vanilla. Pulse on chop for awhile, pour into a tall glass and eat with a spoon. OMG,I was in heaven til the pain pill wore off. I live in FL so this works if you are up north you might wanna eat your heavenly berry whey thingy by a roaring fire. You got your veggies, your fruit and your protein and the Atkin shake has fiber in it and added vitamins and whey factors have lots of amino acids in there...so its a meal that tastes like a chocolate milkshake, the thick ones. Even the tiger likes it...oh wait a minute thats the neighbors cat better get kitty out b4 my Ger Shep and my fiance's miniature rottweiler see her and leave me here to suffer thru another home nurse visit. Yep this is real life...sometimes it totally sucks under the bus and sometimes its just a little rainbow.

Nice to meet you Layla. My DH cooks great and I pack on the pounds just to prove it! So many your fiance's bad cooking is a good thing? I had a lumpectomy and quicker recovery and I still hurt, so I wish you a speedy recovery.

Well everyone, I FINALLY got over the only vegan restaurant in San Antonio - it was FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The flavors were amazing, tex mex vegan.  Lots of carbs on the menu, so I'll have to steer a different direction in there, but can't wait to go back.

I had "kinda-mex" for lunch today too Sagina.  Chipotles anyway. Salad with rice and beans, skip the cheese and dressing but yah, go ahead and give me some guacamole and salsa Laughing.  For dinner, multi grain pasta with a saucy eggplant caponata.

I'm soaking a bean mixture right now for some meatless chili. I have avocados, tomatoes and multi-grain tortillas in the house so I guess it's south of the border for me again tonight!  Meanwhile, working on a big bowl of berries sprinkled with meusli and stevia. Have a great day everyone!

I got lunch from the vegan restaurant today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pozole with a farm fresh salad with avocado ranch dressing.

The Pozole is hominy in a red chili flavored soup - for lack of a better description....it very much resembled menudo - a great tex mex acquired taste classic.

Vegeria is the name.  They have a facebook page.  We also have Green Vegetarian, that one is close to downtown and can make anything vegan as well.  The vegan place is close to the airport.  They are both good, but the vegan is tex mex flavors, the other is more a swanky, if that makes sense.

Let me know if and when you head up this way, would love to meet you!

So. Full. Went to DDs first swim meet of the season and celebrated at the Thai restaurant.  I cannot find a reliable calorie count for sate, which makes myfitnesspal useless...but if there was a button that said "too many #$*&** calories" I would push it. Long beach walk tomorrow as punishment Wink.

    {{{Hi Banba, I've missed you! Hugs back! }}}

Bought a wheelbarrow size package of spring greens at costco yesterday so it will be something over greens for dinner several times this week. Tonight it will be Kashi mixed grains with baked brocolli and red and yellow peppers, plus nuts added, and crusted tilapia for DH.

I saw that costco carries matcha tea "blend."  The instructions say that you should steep the green tea bag and add the powder that comes in the tea bag packet.  This sounds weird to me.  Any matcha experts out there?

Hi SAB, sounds like you bought the Ito-En green tea that I get from Costco as well.

The loose green tea is supposed to be sprinkled on top, but usually i just add it into my mug and then pour hot water over it.  The matcha is supposed to contain more antioxidants than regular green tea (i believe i read that in the anticancer book(?)).  It's good! i have about 2 cups a day.
