"Girlie Secrets" - Questions only Women Can Answer
Comments
-
Here's one -- in Romancing the Stone, Michael Douglas takes Kathleen Turner's impractical high heels and uses a machete (I think) to hack off the heels. Question for the ladies and the men: Would this work well? Why or why not?
Women can tell you the shoe would be very weird to walk in, since high heels sans heels are not the same as flats. They'd have their toes weirdly tilted up.
-
what is in my freezer?
tht's a question for you and I'll answer now rather than create any un necessary suspense.
mints from my parents' wedding party.. circa 1955.
-
If you took the last piece of something on a plate, like the last piece of pie or last cookie, what were you called?
Answer: Old Maid
Seaside Memories, you are correct that sleeping with a slice of wedding cake under your pillow would make you dream of your future husband.
When I was a teenager, my friends and I always talked about getting a visit from "George", which meant you were getting your period.
-
we called it the curse
-
Those colours are all different here in Toronto.
-
What a fun idea, windlass! I knew most of the answers to the original questions. My friends and I also twisted the apple stem to find out who our future boyfriend would be. Far too easy to "cheat"!
I'm thinking the Judy Blume book (Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret) would be more for those of us who were young in the 60's/70's. It would be difficult to choose books and music that women across the generations would all be familiar with.
I did NOT know what Patchoili was, though. Learn new things every day!
Other possible questions:
Period question - Who is your least favorite Aunt? (Aunt Flo...)
Which generally look more flattering...horizontal stripes or vertical stripes?
Another Nancy Drew-related question... Was the "George" character in the book series Nancy's Drew's boyfriend, or her girlfriend?
-
Oh, that stripes question is a good one!!
And I think you're right on the literature.
-
Oh, I well remember George was Nancy's girlfriend......and the other one was Bess.
-
Was anybody around during the era of the miniskirt in the 60's and early 70's? I remember my mom telling me when I was six how to tell if my skirt was long enough. Anybody know?
(Answer: If your fingertips, hanging at your sides, could touch the bottom of the skirt, it was long enough. Stand up and try that now!! LOL)
Oh - and I have to add this. My favorite dress was size 6x. It was bright and shiny silver - and came right to my fingertips - and no further. Alas, I didn't have Nancy Sinatra go-go boots to go with it though.
Ack on that whole decade!
-
In high school, in the late 60's, I remember having to kneel down to see if the hem of your skirt touched the floor. If so, it was long enough!
Now, I laugh at some of the outrageous things I wore after that!
-
But, but, but... wouldn't kneeling down like that if your skirt WASN'T long enough give any observer in front of you a complete view of your crotch and panties?? Who exactly invented that little test?
-
Oh, here's a question guys probably couldn't answer.
Q: What is the popular new beauty procedure known as "threading" ?
-
Oooh! Oooh! I know!!!!
It's for removing rogue hairs!!!
(And Windlass, we weren't bending OVER, we were just on our knees with our bodies straight up, if that makes sense....
)
-
Blessings: Right on the threading question.
And I get it on the kneeling down, but unless your skirt was long enough to touch the ground, what covered the front of you, between your legs, and under your bottom from being seen from the front? Thank goodness for tights.
Here's another one:
Q: Does an eyelash curler use heat?
-
Being down on your knees didn't allow anything to be observed. You maintained full posture....if your skirt didn't touch the ground then it was deemed to be too short. It was no different than standing straight up ... when we wore those mini skirts, there was an art to bending down .. ie. you didn't ... had to remain straight and bend at the knees. My mother was horrified at how short our skirts were. And long straight hair with very pale pink lipstick and thick black eyeliner ... it was fun.
A. no heat on the eyelash curler.
-
Have to say I have "Growing Up Skipper," still.
She came with younger school-girl outfits, and an older hippy outfit, that matched.
when you spun her arm around, she grew up, and out.
Awesome hippy clothes, and what felt like revenge on my mom, as I wasn't allowed to buy Barbie, because she had boobs.
AND, I have to admit I was a nancy drew freak.
-
my mom made me wear my skirt long. I'd put it on. I had a 2.5 mile walk to and from school. about a block away from the house I'd roll it up 3 times. Even if the temperature was zero, my legs would be showing.. My legs would be bright red when i got to school. I guess tights weren't invented..
We didn't know about them.
Nancy Drew rocked, more than the Bobbsey twins.
-
Remember this afternoon pastime? Sitting outside with lemon juice or Sun-In combed through the hair for a blonder look.
My GF's & I would lay out on the flat portion of my house's roof, looked like we were on a deck, broiling along in the Gulf Coast sun during peak hours.
Sun lamps for indoor use. -
I totally did the Sun-in and lemon juice! And when my girlfriend and I discovered that you could use hydrogen peroxide to do the job faster and more effectively, we were over the moon. I still remember that smell.
Girl Q: Can tampons be flushed down the toilet?
-
The package says they can, but they plug up the toilet so I think they shouldn't be flushed.
-
I always flushed them. (Past tense, since chemo has made them a distant memory.)
Here's one.
Girl Q: What fabric are bridesmaid dresses usually made out of?
-
That's a good one. Guys definitely wouldn't know the answer to that.
-
Not sure guys would know what a mouse mattress is. It may "date" me also - anyone here know?
-
aren't bridesmaids dresses supposed to be cut from the ugliest fabric the bride can find?
i thought that was the rule.
as for mouse mattress, i'm stumped...
-
Never heard of a mouse mattress
-
Mouse mattress = sanitary pad. Sis and I used this "code" to remind Mom to put on grocery list.
-
It would make a great mattress for a mouse. I wonder if others know that, or if it was your own private code?
Bridesmaid dresses are usually satin or taffeta, I think. Anyone actually own anything taffeta other than a bridesmaid dress? I barely remember what taffeta is.
So definitely - fabric questions would be good for weeding out guys-- unless they work in the fashion industry.
Here's another one:
Q: What kind of basic crotch must underwear have to reduce the chances of a yeast infection?
-
A. cotton
Q. What does it mean to feather your bangs?
-
I think I can see Farrah Fawcett now!
-
Q: If you were a teen or a young woman in the 70s and 80s, what alternative fashion use can a roach clip be put to?
(If you have no idea what I am talking about, a roach clip is a metal clip that pot smokers used to hold the "roach" or the tiny last glowing embers of a joint. In the 70s, roach clips had feathers dangling down from them, usually on suede fringes.)
