I think Ozzy lost the million dollars when he attacked Sophie at the second last TC.  That was just stupid.  He had the immunity necklace...he should have just shut up.  Why would you want to make enemies when you know you are already the odd man out?

I really felt sorry for Brandon.  That poor kid is so confused.  He really is fighting demons but they are of his own making.  He just needs to do what HE feels is right and quit analyzing everything he does.  His family SUCKS!

Hated seeing Russell being all bitter and hateful toward Brandon. That boy ain't right, but he's better than either his uncle or father. Good point about Ozzy, pip. Yes, Sophie was a whiny brat, but he did himself no favors by saying anything until he was 'safe'. I wouldn't have had any problems with him saying it in the last TC; she was gunning for him anyway, he didn't have immunity, so he had nothing to lose.

Loved Brandon telling the F3 that the jury didn't want to vote for any of them! It was definitely a case of holding their noses and picking the lesser of 3 evils.

Wonderful.  Redemption was a distraction and boring.  What makes Survivor interesting is the social game.  I'm tired of returning former players as well.  Let's hope we get back to the basics.

This time I read that there will be two tribes on one beach.  Sounds interesting.

Maybe this season just got off to a bad start, but what an unlikeable bunch! The men came across as sexist, smug douchebags, and Colton... way to set the image of gays back 25 years. Could he have been any more flaming, catty or petulant? He made no attempt to adapt to his tribe, scooted over to chat up the women almost immediately, and didn't help out around camp at all. Just sat and whined about how he didn't fit in. Hopefully, he can use the not-so-hidden immunity idol to get rid of Matt before his own tribe boots him.

I really didn't like either Alicia or Christina, and arguing at tribal council when they didn't even know if there would be a vote was stupid. Typical of Probst to stir up the fight before announcing that Kourtney was out, so there wouldn't be a vote. I like chicken-wrangler girl (Chelsea?) and Sabrina, so hopefully, they'll stay out of the feud until it resolves itself.

Unless they left a lot out, it didn't seem like the ladies tried very long to make fire before going over to the men and asking them for some. I don't blame the men for saying 'no', but I also thought the women were right to not hand over a chicken. There were more chickens there; let them catch their own!

Since the precedent of thieving from each other started quite literally off the truck, I enjoyed the women stealing fire, but then letting it go out? Dummies. Also, while they were stealing things, steal your axe back!

I really hope this bunch wises up quickly. At least there isn't a Redemption Island this time around.

Yeah, it wasn't my favorite.  It seemed disjointed somehow.  I sure admired that way she grabbed those chickens, that was amazing.  I think there are some interesting characters in there.  It may just take a while to see them.

Is it just me but did some of this seem staged?

Both the men and women seem like stereotypes.  The men are macho and the women are girly and I agree with you, Riley702, the gay guy seems exaggerated.

I also agree with you, Omaz.  It was very disjointed most likely because the Survivor crew became so addicted to Redemption Island that they forgot how to edit.

The one interesting thing was the difficulty of the first immunity challenge.  It was very dangerous to expect new contestants to tackle something like the jump into the net from such a height.

    What's going on?

The net thing was dangerous; I was surprised. It didn't help when every single person ignored his instructions to cross their arms over their chest (so they won't be flailing around, Kourtney), and to land on their back. The noise of Kourtney's wrist breaking seemed to me to have been dubbed in afterwards. And I think you're right about some of it looking staged, like that whole argument about the chicken vs fire the men and women had, and hopefully the remarks about making the women strip or dance on a pole for fire. That was just disgusting.

It was also a big disappointment when they didn't finish the challenge.  remmeber when Jenna left the all-stars because of her mom?  They played the challenge - I think because they love the game.  Not so sure about now.

I agree that contestant spots nowadays are mostly cast to people who know little about the game and are just doing it for exposure. They don't love the game - they want to launch a career in acting, modeling, professional 'reality' show contestant, etc. They're mostly bland, pretty, and utterly forgettable. The game hasn't been the same since that started.

I'm of two minds about the challenge, though. What if the men lost and had to vote someone out? I felt pretty sure Kourtney wasn't coming back; so now they're two people down from the very first episode. It might have messed up the logistics of taping 39 days. OTOH, giving the men the "choice" to take the win was pretty safe because most contestants now wouldn't pass up a sure thing, and it would help stir up that man vs woman animosity Probst seems to enjoy so much. And that's another thing that has changed since the beginning; instead of letting things unfold naturally, Probst just has to push to create 'moments' that are predictable and less satisfying to me as a viewer than the moments that would just happen. His hands are all over the show now, and that's not a good thing. He should have just left well enough alone.

I HATED that NO ONE listened on how to drop to the net!! They should have stopped the challenge and reiterated the posture. Sure enough a "chick" breaks her wrist....sigh. Didn't the cop do a face-plant too? She looked pretty beat up at the elimination.

I hope they separate the idiots from the real people quickly. They're off to a good start!! They could call this series "Darwin: the elimination of the species - natural selection"!!

    LOVE Colton. Cool

Is sure is a sexist set-up. On purpose I am sure. A LOT of 'pretty' people this time, perhaps the little person was thrown in for balance? I like the one camp concept but would have preferred it to be mixed men & women on both sides.

Still love Colton. Sorry to see the ex-cop go but I kind of (?) understand how they'd want to keep the younger player although as a 51 year old myself I can see how keeping a wiser/more balanced woman around could be a benefit as opposed to keeping a wild card young girl.

I think the women will continue to implode and then it will eventually even out with Colton having an immunity idol. Can't wait to see how that man trio plays it out.

So far the women are acting pretty much on cue!! Embarassing!! Jeff is having quite a good time at council "outing" their feelings....hehehehehehe

I DARE the two tribes to unite before they are "told" to. Wouldn't that have been pretty cool?

I wish we had a better sense of the two camps.  How close are they?  What is the set up?   Why were the guys at the girls camp after tribal council telling the girls that the guys had tended their fire.?  What was that all about.

Yeah, that was weird, notself. Like they wanted a pat on the back for doing something they weren't asked to do in the first place. Which one of the women tried to point out. I wonder if they used the opportunity of the women being gone to look for the other hidden immunity idol around the women's camp. And that twaddle about keeping their fire going was their explanation for being there.

The camps are only about 20 feet apart if you go by the original flags. That's why I kind of wondered if they really were supposed to make two camps. The show is "One World".

Good point about using the fire as an excuse to search their camp.

I think this "one world" theme would play out much better if there weren't any opposing tribes at all. Pre-merge, teams would be randomly selected to compete in reward and immunity challenges, maintaining that division for enjoying a reward and/or having to go to tribal council. After voting someone out, it's all one big happy "tribe" again until the next set of challenges. It would force people to actually strategize and try to be on good terms with everyone, as you'll never know in advance which team you'll belong to that week. And it would stop the "strategy" of forming alliances on day one and riding them out to the bitter end, which I personally find uninteresting.

    riley702,

What a great idea!  It would really emphasize the social aspect of the game.  I think we would actually see alliances form and shift.  As it is now, five people get together and form an aliance almost immediately and with little thought.  Your way would make the process much more interesting.
