When I suggested the mousse question, I only knew of chocolate and hair mousse, did not know there are 4 kinds.    no DH or males around me to ask.

Ok, this reminds me very much of high-school games. But, anyway

    1. What is Summer's Eve and where would you purchase it?

    A. No idea

    2. Sports bras contain underwires for added support. T/F

    3. To what item does the term "top coat" refer?

    A. Paint? Oil art painting?

    4. What might a young girl be asking by twisting the stem off an apple?

    A. No idea

    5. How do you wear "Candies" and what are they? (Hint: They're not edible).

    A. No idea

    6. Which pantyhose last longer, sheer or opaque?

    A. No idea. I used to always wear stockings when I'd wear dresses or skirts.

    7. What can you put on pantyhose to stop them from running further?

    A. Nail polish, soap, chewing gum.

    8. What is one potential embarrassing downside to applying very red lipstick?

    A. No idea. I use red lipstick even in my 50's and I don't know what is the embarassing downside - I couldn't find one.

    A. Depends on the age of the person, their coloring, their face shape, what they are wearing, and lots of other things.

    A. Patchouli is an herb.

    10. Which hurts worse over time: Clip-on earrings or pierced ones?

    A. Pierced ones. The piercing is done in the area of the ear that is responsible for headaches and eye/vision problems.

    12. Describe Barbie's nipples.

I am not a girly girl- I missed all of the pantyhose and cosmetic questions.

My husband with the three older sisters scored 100%.

Windlass - I think that this is a great thought, but there are some issues....

As Windlass posted in the topic... This list is meant to be all in fun.... I personally found it to be good as a memory jogger for me and also made me realise how much my DH pays attention to when I didn't think he was watching....lol!!

    It's all good, ladies!

    Blessings...

Never having been a lipstick girl... I was not sure of that answer but, will say I have seen both and neither is pretty!

Of course what do I know... I was certain that the answer to 17 was.. Are You There God? It's Me Chelsea.... Turns out that was a different take on the original book title and the book title that I thought was it was really titled... Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea!! Oh my, who knew? Both sound like a good read, though...lol

Day - Hay!  how are you stranger?  You don't know many of the answers.  I didn't know the apple stem one, but know candies are slip on high heel type of shoes.. cute but totally unwearable, at least for me.

    The Answers to Questions 1-10

    1. What is Summer's Eve and where would you purchase it?
Summer's Eve is a brand of douche -- not that I've ever used it, nor should anyone - but I've sure seen the ads. You would buy it in the supermarket or the drug store near the tampons and other "feminine products." For some reason, it's almost always on the bottom shelf.

    2. Sports bras contain underwires for added support. T/F
False. An underwire is the curved metal insert along the bottom of each cup of a certain type of b ra to lend support and "lift." They're pretty fussy and uncomfortable, and you wouldn't want to wear one when you're moving around a lot. In contrast, a sports bra has no support beyond tight elastic, and it works more by smooshing the boobs flat against the chest than by lifting them up. So they're basically opposite concepts.

    3. To what item does the term "top coat" refer?
Top coat is the coat of quick drying nail polish that goes on last, after the color layer. To do nails officially right, you first put on a base coat (a clear, adhesive coat), then two coats of color, then finally a single coat of shiny top coat.

    4. What might a young girl be asking by twisting the stem off an apple?
This was big at my elementary school, and I did it as a 9-year-old girl. We twisted apple stems, saying one letter of the alphabet for each twist. The letter you were on when the stem finally broke was the first letter of the boy you were going to marry. Since few other women seem to knew this, I'll probably change this question and ask something more universal.

    5. How do you wear "Candies" and what are they? (Hint: They're not edible).
If you read fashion magazines or look at billboards in the mall, you will see that Candies are a heavily advertised brand of high-heeled shoes. They've been around at least since the 1970's when I was growing up, and are still going strong today if the ads are any indication.

    6. Which pantyhose last longer, sheer or opaque?
Opaque. Sheer pantyhose are made of spider-webby, gossamer-like wisps designed to be barely visible. That gives them a half life shorter than francium. (And for the science fact of the day...  francium is among the least stable of elements, with a half-life of only 22-minutes.)

    7. What can you put on pantyhose to stop them from running further?
Clear nail polish applied to a run will stop it from running further. In a pinch, you can use glue.

8a. What is one potential embarrassing downside to applying very red lipstick?
It getting on your teeth! And as Blessings pointed out, it is pretty hideous when it feathers up a woman's upper lip into wrinkle lines.

8b. Bright red lipstick goes with minimal eye makeup and vice versa. T/F
True, and at least the fashion magazines are always harping on this. Dramatic red lips go with pale, understated eyes. Bold, lined, dramatic eyes should be paired with pale, understated lips. When you put bold eyes and bold lips together, you look overly made up. The look can also be very aging.

    9. Patchouli is a brand name for what product? (If this is wrong, say how.)
Patchouli is a scented oil, derived from the patchouli plant. It's not a brand. It is used as a perfume and was popular in the hippy era, along with sandalwood. You can still buy it in tiny bottles at the health food store.

"She comes out of the sun in a silk dress
running like a watercolor in the rain...
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea,
she comes in incense and patchouli,
so you take her, to find what's waiting inside..."

(That's an excerpt from Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat," a pop song from my youth.)

    10. Which hurts worse over time: Clip-on earrings or pierced ones?
Clip ons! Piercing your ears hurts for a few days, then not at all once the holes heal. But clip-on earrings are excruciating, since they work by pinching the skin of the earlobe very tightly in a tiny metal vice. You may not think the nerve endings in there would really care, until you take the earrings off and get an explosion of pain.

Oh, I see now. Only American-born and raised can be women, right?

And btw, you are totally wrong on the no. 10. Read my answer. You'll be in pain with clip ons for a few hours. Piercing the ear in that area will give you a life-time of headaches and even eye problems.  AND clip ons hurt when they are on, not after you take them off.

i'm 58- i'm American; i have watched too much tv and read too many magazines- i knew all of the answers but the apple stem one..guess i missed that day on the playground!

    but this has been fun

as to red lipstick-i don't care for the bleeding or the stain it leaves!

clip ons vs pierced ears-i protect my lobes from the weight of heavy ones so i will wear clips tho i have piercings- guess i see both as painful!

    again-this has been fun!

trivia; who was Bonne Bell?she was a real person.... i grew up with Julie who was related to her....

windlass, perhaps I seem to be the only one here besides you who knew the answer to the apple stem one....me and my girlfriends did that all the time as kids.

    A take-off on that one:

Why did girls take a piece of wedding cake home and sleep with it under their pillow?

Oh, and btw, that Al Stewart song....one of my all time favorites.....my answer to the patchouli was that it was an incense fragrance....can that be counted as correct?

Have also heard of the "Are you there God, it's me Margaret."  and I got most of the others correct.  Not sure about #20.......

I have four older sisters, so I know lots of girl stuff.

Here's a question from something me and my girlfriends used to do when I was growing up:

If you took the last piece of something on a plate, like the last piece of pie or last cookie, what were you called?

I knew them all but #18 re: hair color.

You can also use hairspray to stop a runner in your pantyhose.

Day, I was intrigued with your comment about pierced earrings.  I've been studying yoga and learning about energy pathways through the body.  Fascinating!

    windlass, how about these questions:

    What are Kegels?

What was the name of Nancy Drew's boyfriend?

What was the name of Barbie's little sister?

(bonus: What was special about the 1975 version?)

    Who is Oprah's best friend?

    this is fun!  Kiss

Oh, man, now you ladies have me. I don't know most of yours, badger. Wasn't Barbie's little sister something like Pixie, or Piper, or... arggh!

#20 was an ad jingle - "Cover Girl clean makeup by Noxema."

We need some period-related questions. We would know the answers, but few guys would.

    Anyone?

I think Barbie's little sister was Skipper... But not sure what was different about the 1975 version.... Maybe a tan a la Malibu Barbie?

Kegels are an exercise to strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor.

Nancy Drew's BF is Ned Nickerson.

Barbie's little sister was Skipper.  In 1975, "Growing-Up Skipper" was introduced.  She was special (and controversial) because she grew breasts when you raised one of her arms!

Oprah's best friend is Gayle King.

As for a period question -- edited to add how about Aunt Flo?

Kegels, yes, I know that one....Nancy Drew's boyfriend, I can remember his 1st name at least.  Both great questions.  Antibiotics...think I know that one also.

Oh, I thought maybe 'noxema' was the answer to #20, but I was thinking, was cover girl made by noxema?

Not sure if any of you ladies would ever talk about your friend, George.
