Spirited and Lively Older Women Thread

I have an appt Wed for both ends.... colon and endoscopy,  So that will tell us if anything really bad is going on.   My onco had me go off my coumadin anyway because my INR was way too high so now I have to stay off of it til my scopes.  

My son, not a kid, 2000 miles away, left me a phone message that he was going into surgery right then! He just didn't say what for, or where he was at! Grrr argh blech! 

It turns out it was for kidney stones and at a major medical center.  When I got back in touch with him he was in the recovery room. He is okay and in a lot of pain. Poor guy. If I didn't already have white hair I would be getting it now.

Me, I am still on bland foods. Baked sweet potatoes are a favorite. 

I thought today was Saturday. My husband must think I am crazy.

My goodness Ginger, I know that scared you to death!  I imagine he'll hear about that later, too.  Hope you'll feel better very soon, too.  It's hard to be so sick for so long, and I'm glad you're finding some foods you can tolerate.  I love baked sweet potatoes.

The weather forecasters are mentioning the dreaded snow word around here for the first time this winter.  If it continues, we'll need to run to the store to get bread and milk.  I really don't know why, but that's the immediate response to predictions of snow here in NC, and the store shelves get empty quicker than you could imagine.  We always have to have that, plus a full tank of gas.  Don't know about the gas either, since nobody knows how to drive on snow here anyway!

Cuba is quite beautiful. The American embargo has had a huge effect on the commodities available there which is why one of our taxis was a 1952 car.  On the other hand, everyone has health care and education including university for those who meet the entrance requirements. They make the most of what they have.  I didn't notice any Americans at the resort and think there still are some restrictions.

Ginger, My DH was a radar man at Lake Charles Air Force base and monitored his flight out of Cuba.

Lisa, his favorite story came from his next station, a remote site within the arctic circle in Iceland.  It was a tense situation during the "cold war" with daily incursion into our air space by Russian air craft.  He happened to be on duty to monitor the friendliest incursion of all.  He was on duty at just the right time to catch Santa leaving the North Pole that year!

For those who have kindly inquired, yes I did finally reesign from the NGO I have volunteered for the last ten years. I did resign months ago but was persuaded to stay on for many reasons. I realize that I should not have agreed. While my heart is just not in board work any longer I still fully support the work of the mission.

Did you know that 13% of the children under 5 die before their 5th birthday? Usually from water born illness. we make bio sand water filters, in Haiti using all Haitian workers We subsidize their sale and sell them for $5.00 they last something around twenty years with no new materials needed. They work better the older the sand and rock innards are. The organization is Clean Water For Haiti.org if you go to the web site many of the photos are ones I took. So while my heart isn't in board work my passion will remain with the Haitian people who have been dealt one horrible blow after another.

So now I need to see where I will fit into this life of mine in a new or different way. My identity has been wrappped up in this for the past ten years. It certainly pulled me away for any domestic issues because they utterly pale in comparision to the situation in Haiti and this was pre earthquake and major flood and epidemics of late.

aaarrrggghhhh....has just my pc layout changed, or has everyone got this stupid layout??

I was perfectly OK when I went to bed last night...all normal format, and NOW....well, hells bells, it's awful. The BCO page is now split in half (each post) down the centre, one half of the posting space (left hand side) is taken up with the posters name and details, and the right hand half is taken up with the post. I think when I have a marathon post it will spread out onto 4 or 5 pages, at least, the post now is only 4" wide (and yes, I have had my ruler out here !)  

Please, someone , advise, I am a computer nitwit !!!!

I am going to get my ruler out again in a minute, and put on edit how many column inches this small post takes up !!!
