I made it!!! I was a texbook case and got out in 24 hours!!! Surgeon had said 2-4 days so I took that as a challenge. I am SO paranoid about catching something in the hospital that I was a keener. Drank lots of fluid, walked around and used the O2 while in bed. My bloodwork and vitals were perfect so I got sprung!! I get final pathology on Feb 17th. He took out 3 tumours along with the last of my thyroid. I'm on 125 of Thyroxine. Wish me luck!! I feel like my breathing is going all the way to my brain.
-
Congratulations Barbe!
My DIL sent me a link to a study that showed staph couldn't grow in urine if the woman had been drinking cranberry juice. She suggested drinking it 3 days before surgery and 3 days after. I'm going to try it. It's just cranberry juice, so no harm done.
-
Great Barbe, just great!! SO good to see you back this soon!
Kathy
-
Yay, Barbe! You are SUPERWOMAN!!!
-
Barbe, I am so happy you are HOME! You had thought you'd be in there for a couple days. Great news!
-
Wonderful news, Barbe. Sounds as if you were the model patient.
-
Great news Barbe!!!!!!!
-
Hey...Barbe.. blooming well done !
Are you feeling OK ? Do not overdo it, take great care of yourself. Have you got help for the next few days ?
Hoping things will be clearer when you get your path.
Isabella.

I am just SO paranoid about getting an infection in the hospital, and remember, I had just caught the flu while I was in for pre-op!!! I am SO proud of myself!!!
Wren, I can't have cranberry juice because of gout. But give it a try! I wasn't worried about staff, I was worried about MRSA and the other big guys. Good luck!!
-
I wish I had thought about the cranberry juice, of course I was so sick last Monday night I couldn't have used it anyways. They wanted to catherize me and I said NO I always get a UTI from that. They held off and I was able to give them an ounce and they were happy.
I go to the Doc for follow up today. She'll have the final test results of the ones they did last week.
Barbe I am so glad you got out of the hospital lickety split! You surely know the routine to get sprung. I don't like those places either. I hope all this leaves you feeling really good now. Do the replacement thryroid meds have to be adjusted or will the dose be good to go from the start.
I was missing you around here!
Hugs Ginger

I had a kidney stone forty years ago and the urologist told me to drink cranberry juice for the rest of my life..so far so good ...
-
MRSA is a staph infection

Can you believe I took this from my friend's front porch..what a view they have of Mt. Hood

Whenever I have surgery I always ask for a script for Urised to start taking the night before and continue for a few days after. Urised is an antiseptic and analgesic for the bladder -- a bladder "quietener" so to speak. It has greatly reduced my problems post-surgery.
I just feel like our poor bladders need some help to deal with not just the catheters but also with the irritation and burning they get from the exposure to all those narcotics and antibiotics we get pumped into us for surgeries. Some of that stuff passes through urine, and it always makes me burn for a few days if I don't get some Urised going first.
My surgeons have always been happy to provide it for me.

Great photo of the mountain Lisa. That's pretty much the view I imagine from my front porch. The reality is not so much worth a photo - just another building. When the grape vines grow on the lattice in the summer and close in the porch, it's fun to imagine that mountain view.

I have just had a hectic 2 days. I was quietly sat, waking up and having a coffee yesterday morning when Plum, my very small sausage dog came up to me. Being half awake I took no notice of her at first. Then she jumped up my knees and stared at me, until I had to take notice of her. Her mouth was jammed half open, and she was dribbling. OMG what now ?? I thought maybe a bone or big biscuit was stuck.
Got my torch, and long nosed pliers and had a look into her mouth. Of course, being a sausage dog she has the longest nose in the history of the world, meaning her jaw is very long !! I couldn't see anything at all, so it was a vet. job. Threw some jeans and an old sweater on over my jimjams and hit the road. The car was slip sliding all over my drive, but once I got onto the main road I could shift. The vet. looked at Plum, and couldn't see anything wrong. Then, all of a sudden Plums mouth moved and jammed open even wider. Vet. looked in again, and a big double tooth right at the back of her jaw had come loose, but not detached, and was cockled up at a funny angle onto the tooth above, making the mouth unable to shut. I decided to let the vet get into Plums mouth and have a sort out, which meant an anaesthetic.
Right then a big white cat was rushed in howling and yowling. It'd been in an RTA, and I had to stand back and let the cat be seen immediatly . This meant Plum had to stay in the vets overnight. She was NOT pleased. She has never been away from here since she was born, about 9 or 10 years ago, never been on a lead, and will nip anyone she doesn't know who tries to pick her up. I went to pick her up this afternoon , and surprisingly she had behaved for the vet. She had 8 teeth out and the rest cleaned, and is now very sorry for herself, sat at my feet, her head on my slippers. I shall take her to bed tonight...but only because I change the sheets in the morning !! Sausage dogs have a peculiar smell in their skin and coat, so no way would she be getting in with me if the sheets were clean !!
I used to imagine I would become a little old lady, sat there, apple cheeked, knitting ...that just doesn't look like it will be happening the way things go on here.
Isabella.
-
Isabella, Give Plum a gentle hug for me. We had a very beloved dachund for eighteen years. Your are right about their smell though. Such intelligent, sweet dogs. Mine loved to burrow under the covers.
-
Isabella why is nothing straight forward for you? Talking about animal behaviour my cats are absolute angels at the vets after howling loudly all the way there. And getting the older cat into the cage is a real effort but he just walks back in after he has been treated!!!
Last weekend DH and I had a night away at a tourist resort where there are wonderful caves, unfortunatly I didn't get pictures of the glow worms. I couldn't see to change my camera settings. The hotel is old but still lovely even though a little faded. We had the room with the veranda over the portico. Evidently it is the room the Queen used on one royal visit, I don't think the bathroom has been updated since then with its quaint handbasin etc and door handles with the image of the Queen on them. Had a wonderful dinner and very pleasant evening chatting with others in the bar with coffee and liqueurs.
The guide took this last one, calls it the headache photo.
It is hot and humid here today and I am pleased to be inside, will do some gardening later on when it is cooler.
Big hugs to all
-
Isabella, Nope you will never be that little apple cheeked Granny sitting by quitetly knitting.....be happy about that!! You have such and interesting life. That looks like a really nice little get-away that you and hubby went on Allyson. The hotel is charming.
-
Wow, Isabella, never a dull moment for you. Glad Plum is sorted. Aly, what a wonderful hotel! And the caves! I didn't know NZ had such big ones! How cool! And they were cool, weren't they?
-
Lisa, I didnt' realize MRSA was considered a staph infection!! My sister lives in Portland and has that view whenever she cares to turn that way. Breathless, isn't it?
Alyson, LOVE the cave shots!! I can only imagine what they were like in real life!!
I take Vesicare every day which is a very expensive "bladder quietener" so I guess that helped me not have problems.
Hugs to Plum (and Isabella!!!)
-
Barbe. so nice to see you back ot posting. Portland is lovely....my sister lives there and has the best biggest plants I have ever seen and she does not have a green thumb, it's the climate.
I am waiting to get into a GI doctor....my onco put in the call yesterday. Nexium and reglan helps, but the problem is still there and get this....I find this amazing....I lost 5 lbs on my potato, and mostly carb diet. Maybe I can write a book on this...The High Carb diet.....problem is my INR was way up since I quit my salads and normal greens.
Have a good day, everyone. Marybe

Hmm, what went down today, Marybe? Any word on your gastro issues???
