Oncologist Appointment = Dread

Why do I DREAD going to my oncologist appointments?  I know part of it is I hate having to say "my" and "oncologist" in the same sentence.  I feel confident that all is well as I had my blood drawn and a ct scan last week.  I think they would've called me if there were anything remarkable to report and figure that no news was good news.  

 But still, knowing that I have to meet with my oncologist in just an hour and a half fills me with dread.

    Nancy, I'm sitting next to you in the waiting room, holding your hand. Yeah, I know all about the "my" part of the oncologist thing.

    Nancy, may your dance with NED be a long one!  As time passes your onc visits will become less traumatic.  And then one day he'll tell you you never have to come back, which creates a whole new sense of dread, 'no one has my back'.  I promise you'll get through that one too :)

    I hope your news today is great, and that you can happily go out and celebrate with chocolate!

    I'm right there with you Nancy. I had bloodwork this week and see the onco next week. It will be a long dreadful week for me. I can go for months and not worry about cancer, until it's time for the onco appointment and then it totally freaks me out until I hear all is ok. Hope all was good for you today.

    Got the all clear and can now breathe a sigh of relief for a few more months.  :)  He did tell me to "watch" the pimple that I wrote about in another thread but that he didn't "think" it was anything concerning.

    eta:  I do have a cyst on my ovary (which has been hurting) and kidney stones but I'm a kidney stone factory so that doesn't bother me.  As for the cyst, he said that I may eventually need to get that ovary removed so I'll be seeing my ob/gyn soon to get it rechecked.  I've had a hysterectomy last April but chose to leave my ovaries in to avoid early menopause.

    I know exactly the feeling you're talking about, Nancy. I'm actually fine until I get to the waiting room on the day of my appointment. The smells, the sounds, all of it brings me back to my diagnosis a little over 2 years ago. By the time I get to the exam room, my blood pressure is usually pretty high. The last time I went, in December, the office had been remodelled and when the nurse came to take me to the exam room, she went a different way than I was used to. I was instantly convinced that something was terribly wrong and I thought I might pass out. All was well-just a change in location.

    Hi Nancy

    My 9 year old son has a mole that the dermatologist is watching. She advised me to take a photo of it once a month between appointments. I just take it with my iPhone and save it in a file on my phone. Maybe this would be reassuring for you??
