15 down and 10 more to go! I am getting fried and hope I last!!! Did anyone have any bone pain during rads? I was getting jolting pain over the weekend. Now it's just sensitive.
-
Ok 23 done today and i am in some pretty intense discomfort Holy cow!!!!! This is a terrible torture....... No bone pain though Southhamptonmom
-
Hi everyone - it gets better. I had my worst days as I was ending regular and going into the boosts. Now, less than one week out, my red is down to mostly faded pink, the blisters are gone, and the searing pain is done.
Just make it through the next session. Then go on. It will get better.
-
pebee, don't the boosts make it worse? i can't imagine doing it again on these raw places.
-
Kennylynne are you having boosts.I had # 19 out of 25 today will be finished next wednesday when you go to the clinic do you go into unit E thats where I have mine.Do you ever have Denis as I a tech.2 weeks ago a tech tried to mark up my wrong breast for Rads.So now I make sure i get everyones name.My skin is holding up a little sore and red but the aloe vera gel seems to help.Hope evryone has a pain Free night.[Hugs}
-
YaYa - my boost was only done to my mastectomy scar line. It didn't make my other areas any worse. And that area of my chest held up OK. It was just the area of my mammary nodes that was so bad. So be sure to ask your RO where the boost will be applied.

Okay I need to rant! Sorry! Finished treatment and was feeling really happy and glad. Looking forward to moving ahead; but wait, found out last night DH has one kidney beginng to fail or in failure. Just what we need. When I hear people talk about God's plan and let him take care of it, I really just want to slap their faces. Happy they have that relation with a higher being, but me? I just get mad!! If this is God's plan, he can have it all back and do a re-write. How do you guys handle the whole God statements from co-workers and family? I do believe, but really, his plan?
-
(((Gail))) - I am not religious and I don't buy the "God's plan" thing. I choose not to get into a discussion, though, as it's easier to just sort of change the subject. I love your idea though about doing a re-write! It's another one of those situation where the person has the best of intentions and I choose to just blow off the religious comments. So sorry to hear about your hubby's kidney failure. That's a tough situation.
-
Gail....so sorry to hear about your husband. Sometimes it just feels like one thing after another! I do believe that God has a plan for all of us but sometimes it's hard to understand and make sense of it all. However, I think people should stop and think before making those types of statements as we all have different views and beliefs.
I had #24 today. So far no skin issues. My RO is still out of the country (maybe he's not coming back)! The RO I saw today made me worried when she said no plan had been done for my boosts. So, I had to wait while she went searching for my CT scan to see if they could use it to plan the boosts rather than doing another one. Luckly, all is well and they can go ahead with my boosts starting on Friday. At this point, I don't want ANY delays. I see the finish line and can't wait to get there.

Hi, Gail:
Many of us who are religious do believe that all of life follows a plan, and that the plan is personalized right down to the individual - by God. With that said, today is my one year cancerversary and I just got home from an exhausting day of both rads and chemo both on the same day - driving in opposite directions. I've been through non-stop, gruelling treatment for a year, and I won't be done until June. And given my terrible stats I will be looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life.
How can this possibly be God's plan? How could I see such a horrible experience as coming from God?
At the risk of annoying you further, here's my take:
God tempers us and gives us opportunities in this lifetime to grow into stronger, purer, and better people who live kinder, gentler, love-based lives -- depending on Him for all things, and ultimately gaining eternal life by traveling the narrow path.
Unfortunately, few of us actually achieve this complete reliance on God, and few follow His gracious commandment to one another as we love ourselves, and to love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. So when we rely solely on our own resources and not on God, many of us (myself included) make ourselves miserable and make a mess of our lives, our relationships, and/or our bodies.
What then? God can use adversity to snap us out of the all-too-easy-to-believe delusion that we are self-sufficient. It can make us aware of blessings or relationships we need to better appreciate. It can point our attention to problems in our lives that flat-out need to change. And sometimes, as in the case of Corrie ten Boom and her sister (whom God used to save the souls of concentration camp victims), adversity can be the environment in which God can use an individual's life to reach others, provided that person has offered herself for that task.
In some cases, I believe adversity serves to teach us to focus on the larger, eternal picture, rather than the brief span of time we spend here.
I hope you don't take offense at this reply. I'm not saying this to convince you, but just to explain why some people may say the things they do.
Blessings and peace to you and your husband, and to all who are suffering tonight.
-
Gail, Sometimes life is just not fair, and I'm so sorry that this is happening to you and your DH.
-
Windlass - Congratulations on your one year anniversary!
-
Hi Sandy115 No boosts for me, final treatment tomorrow and I will ring that bell bleeping hard!!!!!
I am having treatment in D unit must be down the hall from you, YIKES about the tech going for the other boob!!!! Good luck
-
Kennylynne Good luck tommorow yeh. what time is the last of Rads I will be there @ 12.30 pm.
-
Kennylynne, congrats on finishing! It is certainly a strange feeling once you realize that you will not be seeing some sort of medical person 5 days a week! Sort of like a ship without an anchor.....
-
Hi,
I have a question for those of you who have been through rads. I just met with RO and the nurse told me that they will nick the lung a little bit with radiation. I was just wondering if any of you were told that before you started? It really scares me.
-
GrandmaV - I was told by my first RO that there was up to a 20% chance of damage to my heart and lungs. I got a second opinion from Dana Farber's head of RO and he was able to develop a plan that avoided any organ damage. I highly recommend you seek another opinion.
Kennylynne - congrats on finishing today!
-
I was also told about the lung, but my RO said the heart was not an issue. Here's hoping due to the recent reports about stenois and rads. RO said to remember to mention rads to anyone doing a chest xray in the future. So happy most of us are done with rads!!! Still seems strange not to go every day to cancer center.
-
Thanks my fellow rad sista's!!!! #25 today YAHOO.... Sandy 115 not radiating until 5:20 today so I will miss you too bad we never connected throughout this.
Its snowing and blowing right now so I really hope the weather holds out and roads don't get too bad as the day goes on. GramaV I was also told that the rads may nick the lungs and to expect some scarring.
-
Two more "boosts" to go...
-
Congrat's on finishing Rads Kennylynne yes its to bad we didnt get to connect how is the skin holding up my neck seems to feel it the most its purple and sore.Hope the roads were okay for you today on your travels to the hospital and hope you are Celebrating tonight.
-
Congratulations KennyLynne!!!!!
-
Today I finished my radiation treatments. (25 + 5 boosters).
Recovery time is finally here!
Good luck everyone
-
Woo Hoo Anita! I finished my regular rad tx today and start the boosts tomorrow. The end is near!
-
Congrats Anita, yes now we can focus on getting back into the swing of things. Hang in there for those of you who are almost there.
Sandy115 under my arm hurts the most, but am red and sore in that area as well. Ended up going in early for rads as they had called me they had some cancellations I guess they figured since it was my last one that I would not miss it!!!! so had my last one at 3:00
-
Woo Hoo - more done!
Hoist a drink and put more cream on. In a week, a good chunk will be faded!
-
It's been great to follow along, since most of you are further ahead than I am. Today was #18 for me and besides some general fatigue, the only major SE is an itchy nipple.
I met with my old RO today because she happened to be in the office. So, I was able to ask her about the total number of treatments because there was definitely some confusion when talking with the techs last week. Turns out because I had one focally close margin after my re-excision, the protocol is to do additional boosts. So I will have 25 whole breast and 8 boosts, a total of 66 gy in 33 treatments. Won't be done until February 8th...
-
I'll be done on February 7th. So far the skin is pink but really nothing else too horrible going on. I only have 6 more treatments to the whole breast area and then I get the 7 boosts. I hope my skin holds up until then.
-
YAY, anita! congratulations!! how exciting for you.
i saw my RO again today and she said to wait to start my final four boosts until monday. she also put me on an antibiotic. my open wounds are still weeping and it seems crazy to put gasoline on the fire, so to speak. i'm so grateful i have time to heal before another zap.
-
YaYa, hang in there. Best wishes for more healing this weekend...
Anita, congrats!
