Sounds like we are all obsessed with hair ( or should I say lack of)
.. I even look in my magnifying mirror every day, hoping I will see more hair and som colour
. Try to tell myself not to look for a few days, but find myself studying my head...Kat
Love, love your hair. Nice to see a fellow red head.. Think that is close to my natural.. can't quite remember, been colouring it for so long

Happy hairday everyone, may each day bring you some more hair and good health

Wow everyone, thank you for the feedback! Yes that is my natural color and I've had really curly hair all my life, so having it grow back curly is no big thang for me. I'm actually kind of relieved! So far it seems to be behaving itself (with some help from various products).
Funny you mention dreams with hair. Because my long/curly/red hair was so much a part of my identity (and how people defined me), there was so much emotional investment in it... I used to have this recurring nightmare when I was in my teens and 20s that I would someday lose it... it was terrifying. (The cause wasn't always chemo, sometimes I had a big car accident and needed to have my head for surgery, etc. or some other situation.) Now I wonder if it was a bit of a premonition. I didn't dream about it much when I was losing it, going through chemo, but since it's starting coming back I think I have "allowed" myself to think about what it might look like at various stages growing back. Weird huh?
I do have major "miss my hair" moments. One happened recently when my boyfriend, who adored my long hair, very gallantly helped me into my winter coat. In previous year, he would put it on and then pull my hair out of the back; it would land on my shoulders with a heavy "whump." This year there's nothing much to cascade down. It was a sad realization for both of us.
Telling yourself not to look when it's growinig back in is like telling yourself NOT to think about hippopotomuses. As soon as you say it, you're thinking about hippopotomuses!
Thanks for letting me ramble

Kat you are so lucky that is your natural color... my hair came back gray and black ... mostly gray I looked so horrible.... You look wonderful !!! LUCKY
-
Glad I'm not the only one with hair envy - makes me sad some days ...
-
I was so excited today, I actually blew dry my hair and used a brush! Ok, maybe it didn't do anything but it was nice to to try.
-
LOL Heather! I did that yesterday, too! I was trying to "fluff it out" a bit so it would look fuller/longer. It seems very "springy" and I am sure it's the curl setting in.
-
Everyone is looking amazing-hang in there and believe me, your hair WILL grow. In fact at just over 7 months PFC I'm beginning to wonder what to do with mine. The thickness and texture along with the wave/curl are making it grow in width/height more than length these days. I told my DH that I'm starting to look like Don King (no offense to him but that's not the look I'm going for) I'm resorting to a headband now to clamp some of the hair down in the front so that I don't have such huge hair on the top-this is really a challenge...

Ks - You have so much hair!! You look fantastic. When was your last Chemo?
-
Thanks Heather I am 6 months out!
-
I am 6 months out this week and I don;t have 1/3 of what you do. It looks fantastic!!
-
Ksmatthews Wow! You've got a very nice style to your hair-and bangs!!! That's what I can't seem to do with my hair-it just wants to go straight up in the air. My headband idea isn't working out too well either because it makes my scalp hurt too much. Your eyebrows look great as well...
-
Thanks girls! I only use gel on it, and blow dry just a little.

I have a question...I bought minoxydil. Now I'm thinking I really meant to buy Nioxin but got confused. Ugh. Should I have bought minoxydil? I did not have chemo but lost a lot of hair because my body was so stressed from multiple surgeries. I lost it from the top of my head up front where my scalp meets my forehead. I've been putting it on twice a day for the past couple of weeks.
I naturally have very sparse eyebrows and use Anastasia. It's really good stuff and looks much more natural than pencil. Although I have a pencil I bought that is very good because I couldn't get into Sephora to get more Anastasia. I got the pencil at Sally's Beauty Supply. It's called Brow Couture by Femme Couture. It's very soft and you can feather it on nicely and it stays on. They have a was pencil that you can buy to go with it to put it over to give it staying power but I have found I don't need it.

mrochon I had been using Minoxidil prior to chemo because my hair was receding. It helped. It actually is supposed to work better on thinning than receding. It can take 3-6 months of use to see any new hair growth. My husband has used Nioxon because Minoxidil made his head itch. It helps but I think Minoxidil worked better.
Been using Anastasia since a few weeks before my BMX. I was more worried about my eyebrows than the hair on my head. Oddly enough my hair all came back, including most of the receded part. Brows look like crap without the help of Anatasia. I have no idea how I knew.

ksmatthews -- your pictures are wonderful. I am new to the thread- - how far out of treatment are you??
-
chh I am 6 months out! Thanks!
-
ks - OMG we have the same hair! LOL! I am also 6 months out - only difference is I have a definite part on one side. I'm afraid it's going to start growing bigger and bigger - not longer and longer. I will post pics soon too!
-
ks matthews-WOW...looks great! I am trying different things to work with this crazy, kinky stuff but I might try what you are doing.
mccrimmon324 I did try a small round brush as well and then gel it.It feels weird to use a blow dryer!
-
MamaV- Ha! I think the same thing. Is it ever going to grow down and not up?

-
KSMatthews - great hair pix!!! You are where I appear to be heading!
-
lago - thank you so much for your response. I will keep using it. I wasn't sure if I was using the wrong product. Phew!

I totally understand where you ladies are with worrying about hair growing up and not down! I am now 12 months PFC and am finding new ways to tame the wild beast of hair on my head. From about 6 months on, I gave up trying to control the curls and went with cute headbands. Not the "old style" headbands that were hard plastic. There are lots of cute ones made out of fabric and are wider and very comfortable to wear. I went to Nordstroms (really pricey, but often had clearance tables), Dillards, Ulta, etc. I grew to rely on them. I never even tried to blow dry until about 10 months out. Then it was getting long enough that I had to try to style it somehow. So I do use a straightener now after blow drying or it's way too big!! I find myself resorting to my headbands when I can't get it to cooperate, like today. If I could figure out how to post some pics, I would! I'm computer-challenged . . . I have some on Facebook that I could post here if anyone could tell me how. Those headbands got me through, and continue to do so. I also kept reminding myself how happy I was to not be bald anymore. It's nice to have "bed head" again!
