mamabearto2:  I didn't have any SE's at all from the anesthetic...maybe it is the pain medication.  I got off that as quickly as possible and went on tylenol because it was making me feel funny...no headache, but just loopy.  It was morphine.  Also dr. said it could cause constipation which I didn't want either!

Get my bandages off and test results tomorrow.  Feeling nervous with all these good results I'm reading --- will I be the one bad one?  Feel like it's been a forever wait.  Good luck to those going in tomorrow, remember it's not as bad as you think it will be - prepare for the worse and it really won't be too bad!

Jennifer - I had the headache and nausea which I think was caused by the injection, nausea is gone but the headache still comes and goes.

Jenn - so sorry for the path results.  makes me crazy that we get these "answers" in the begininng and believe them because it was from a biopsy then they get the stuff all the way out and it changes. I'm praying your scans are clear

Kayce234:  I was thinking the same thing!  We shouldn't think that way...hope for the best possible outcome, but certainly prepare for and understand the other options if they should happen.  This waiting is just the worst...the doctors hold our lives in their hands and yet we still have to wait for their "call".  If I don't hear by tomorrow, I am going to throw a hissy fit!  They will be sorry they took me off of those hormones:)

    Have a great evening everyone!

Mamabearto2 - I was warned before they put in the nuclear dye into the nipple that a side effect can be a moderate to severe headache. I didn't get one but I'd say that's what is the cause. That's powerful stuff they are using. My nipple could stay blue for up to six months and I pee'd blue for the first 4 days - interesting to say the least.

jstunme - soooo sorry to hear you're sick!

My BMX was rescheduled to 11.8.11, and on 11.4.11 I got the worst flu ever!!! They had to reschedule my surgery again, and I was actually thankful that they did. Recovering from a BMX/recon in the midst of uncontrollable coughing spasms would not have been pretty. So from November 8 to December 5, I stayed home. I didn't go out at all, and no one came into our home. DH wore a surgical mask out in public, and practically bathed in hand sanitizer. He wore "inside shoes" and "outside shoes".

I had my surgery on December 5th! After that, we told all our friends that I was in quarantine, and that it would be several weeks before anyone could come visit me. Unfortunately, people just don't think about spreading germs, even going so far as to say "Oh, I'm not contagious!" Hack, wheeze, sniffle....

Hope it's just a cold, and that you recover quickly. But if you don't, please be honest with your surgical team. You really don't want complications during and after surgery.

    Hi Jennifer,

I had the headache and low grade nausea for 4 days afterwards too. I told the anaethetist that happens to me but I think he just humoured me and didn't give me the extra drug that will cover the nausea for a few days... grrrrrrr.

Jenn, so sorry about your pathology, that totally sucks.  Hoping your scans come back clear.  Hugs your way!

Mamabear - Laughed out loud about the anesthesiologist. Sorry, I have no idea about the headache.

Jenn - Big hugs and big prayers for you as you learn what your treatment will be.

mamabear - I have to say, I really didn't have any lasting SEs from the radioactive isotope injection, the anesthesia, or the pain meds. I did find that I had a big bump on the side of my head after I got home, leading me to think that perhaps they knocked me off the operating table and I landed on the floor at some point! A nurse friend of mine warned me about neck pain, as they put some kind of support under your neck during surgery to open your airway for the breathing tube.

Actually, after what we've gone through, I'd be surprised if anyone DIDN'T have a headache!

Just thinking of all our December 15th surgery sisters tonight, hoping they are all resting comfortably.

Jenn- we have some similarities..grade and diagnosed size. My petscan and ct scan yesterday showed no mets. I may have an outpatient SN Biopsy this next week, pre surgery. For me that would probably mean adjuvant chemo and radiation....before surgery. Even without node involvement, chemo may come first. I feel your heart break as we all think about those damn nodes. In my case the petscan had a high SUV uptake on the breast lesion. It just wasn't the grade, so maybe you will get good news there and no mets! Chemo will be good to get started asap.

Great news today! Had my brain, chest, abdo, pelvis staging CT and they couldn't find ANYTHING. Not even in my axilla where we had all assumed there would be some obviously affected nodes. So happy day today :-)

I have a psych onc appt on Tuesday, bone scan on Wednesday and then appt with the oncologist on Thursday.

Have a lovely and relaxing weekend everyone (it's Friday night here).

    regards Jenn

Jenn:  Glad you got good news on your scans!  One more hurdle behind you!

Dru:  Happy that your surgery is behind you and you are feeling good.  I am also waiting for my final pathology...it sucks!  How hard can it be to just get it done and call!  I started calling yesterday and again this morning already.  The squeaky wheel gets the grease I'm told!

Jennifer - I had a headace for two days post surgery; don't know why, but I took Tylenol for it as the nurse said Percocet would not help my headache.

Got my path report - no lymph node involvment, however extensvie DCIS and one small area of IDC. Hoing back Jan 4 for appoint. with oncologist to see if chemo or hormone therapy is next step.  More waiting... Hoope for last two drains out on Tuesday.  I was invited to a holiday party Saturday and as much as I want to go and see friends, feel so uncomfortable with the drains (and the fear that someone will bump that spot where the drains exit my side) that I decided to stay home; feeling regret about that decision, like I am just making excuses to avoid people.

    Hi ladies,

Popping in--haven't been on this thread in a while. I want to wish all those who just had surgeries a speedy and comfortable recovery, and for all those waiting, peace. I am now 5 weeks out of BMX with hip flap tissue transfer, my drains came out this week, and I am still a bit fatigued but feeling good and glad to be getting back to my life again. I hope we can all take some time during this busy holiday season just to celebrate ourselves--we have worked so hard to kick the beast!

I was reading my "after surgery instructions & care"........it says I can return to work in 21 days.......WHAT???? I am self employed so I will be back to work in Monday Wink......I didn't think a lumpectomy required that much healing time......I am feeling perty good already!

I'm out the other side. Bilateral DIEP with one mx in the process. All sign are good. Looks tidy, happy with size, pain reasonable, unbelievably sleepy. No nausea whatsoever. All nursing and doctoring has been top notch, and gurney rides all the way. No shuffling in paper slippers. Having fun in inflatable leg squeezers. Sorry for so disjointed. I'm still collecting my marbles. Best to all!

Good news!!  Results came back today and no cancer in the lymph nodes and clear margins!!!  They like 2mm but he only got 1mm in one section but he said there was no tissue left to take out, he went up to my neck and ran into muscle so he's happy with the 2mm.  Ends up there was 3 tumors all positive - none showed up on mammogram!  Get the onco result next week then if no chemo I start radiation in February!!!

Good thoughts and prayers for those awaiting resutls and those heading to surgery...

FINALLY.....RESULTS ARE IN!  Got the all clear on my pathology from surgery....no node involvement and clear margins!  Best Xmas present I could have ever recieved!  Now just have to get through radiation and decide if I'll take any anti hormonals, but I have time for that, so I am going to relax and enjoy the rest of my holidays!

This was the first time I felt like crying since the dx, and it was tears of relief...boyfriend almost cried as well....just before he left to go play golf!  Guys....you gotta love em....but really, he's been a trooper through all of this, so I don't begrudge him his passion.

My best wishes to all who are still waiting, for either surgery or final results.  I will pray for positive outcomes for all!  I have learned so much from this experience and will try to keep that knowledge and use it positively to help others.

Kayce234 and Kaara - congrats to both on your results. Hope everyone else waiting has good news too!

In good news for me, met with surgeon this am - he said outpatient is fine. He's going to do a 23 hour visit, so I will go to a bed, but he'll check on me mid afternoon and send me home. He also said only one drain, so yay.

    Hey Ladies!

First of all, I am SO relieved to hear all the good path reports!  I have been praying for you all!  ... AND Aussie Kate and everyone else who responded about the headache.... THANK YOU!  I REALLY thought it was that dye injection... plus anestesia, etc.  and I'm feeling better today!  (Silly when, after a mx the problem is a headache!!)

I saw the plastic surgeon today and he took off the pain pump.... I still have my drains in, but that is ok... just getting the pump off was a nice change!

Hang in there everyone.... cancer is sucky and LAME.

    Jennifer

SO glad to hear of all the good path reports. Prayers and good wishes to surgeries to come and speedy recoveries to those that are through surgery.

How concerned are you all of getting a cold etc, post-op? I'm 8 dys post-op and doing well. Well, except that I still can't lift my arms over my head and my ps won't let me drive until I can. Anyhoo, my parents were supposed to come back for Christmas but mom is suffering from a UTI (not a problem with being anything I could get) but my dad has a wicked cold. As much as I want them here I'm not sure it's a good idea. I know there are bugs everywhere but.... What is you're thinking on it all? As long as he doesn't have a fever? Make him wear a mask? I just don't know.

I had my lumpectomy and SNB and on 12/9...still waiting for pathology results. I have follow-up with BS on Mon, 12/19 - 10 days after surgery. I'll get my staples out (5 of them - ouch) and then pathology report. Is it me or does 10 days seem like a long time?? Not that I can do anything about it now on Friday afternoon anyway....LOL. It just can't get here fast enough!!

CharB22...I hear you....10 days is a long time.  I just got mine this morning and I had surgery on Dec 12th.  It's only supposed to take 2 business days according to my breast clinic.  Maybe the dr. wants you in his office to give you the report..some do, but I made it clear that I wanted mine over the phone and was not willing to wait.  All this waiting....and then we have to wait some more...it sucks!

Good luck on Monday...hope your results are the best!

Chrissilini:  I know I wouldn't want to get a cold right after surgery.  Have your father stay away from you and wear a mask in your presence.  Not too much to ask to keep your health.  Have some good sanitizer in the house to wipe down things he touches.  Wash hands frequently and load up on vit C...that's the best you can do.  Good luck!
