December 2011 Surgeries - want to wait together?

Kite: Good for you! Glad your report was better than expected.
I'm praying mine comes back clear with nodes and margins. I've been calm through this all, but I fear that having to go back to do more surgery will put me over the edge, so I try to avoid going there in my mind right now. My boyfriend doesn't want to hear one negative word...the same way he was before I was dx with bc...he was sure it was all nothing. I'm so glad I have this site, because he won't talk to me at all about it, and without some comfort and support, I would go crazy. He's off playing golf right now....life goes on for him...he just doesn't want to feel guilty that he isn't doing enough for me. Guys...you gotta love em!
-
Cookie- good luck to my surgery sister; you will do great and be home before you know it!
Good luck to all the Dec 15th surgeries!
-
pickychicky, I am in the hospital as I type this just had mast this morning at 8 AM, its a breeze compared to the lumpectomy.. NO pain at all 1 drain, I was more freaked waiting and laying on the OR table, Im in my room with my laptop playing games and feeling great, Thank you ladies for all your thoughts and encouragement.... And good luck to all the ladies with their surgeries tomorrow..... HUGS
-
Good luck tomorrow ladies, get good rest tonight. Judy, thanks for starting and maintaining this thread. Jo, I'm so jealous, would love to be that far along.
((Hugs)), Judy

Prayers for all of the ladies going into surgery, tomorrow...will be thinking of you all. I am on day 13 after my BMX with immediate implants and just met with my BS regarding my pathology. She says I am cancer free with less than a 2% chance of a reoccurance. So, hallelujah, and I pray for good reports for my BC buddies, also. Will be meeting with my PS, in the morning, and hoping that my last 2 drains are removed. I am part of an immediate implant clinical trial and have been told that my nipple and breast reconstruction will take over a year. I really don't know what to expect but am glad that reconstruction is possible. Have to say that my DH is weary of all these doctor appts and I am messing up our livelihood since we are self-employed, but, he has been great, overall. Hugs to all.
-
Kite great news - so glad to hear it!
Terry71 Thanks so much for the info. Here's hoping mine is as easy as yours sounds like it was.
Good luck to those with surgeries tomorrow. Prayers sent your way.
-
Well, I've had my last meal pre-surgery. Other than Rx (and a Colace!) I am switching to clear fluids now and soon The Shower With Special Sponge. Nervous but not sure how much of it is worry about oversleeping and being late for 6 a.m.! The minor human rights crisis has been resolved as they conceded to book the interpreter and she tells me they won't tell her the patient's name (too funny) but she's booked 6-8 and 5-7 so I guess they expect the surgery to be 8-5 EST.
Good luck to CookieMonster, my DIEP sister tomorrow presumably 3 hours behind me, and to other surgery sisters Jo, brendaclee3, and Druanne.
-
Your welcome pickychicky- Everything will be just fine, Im so surprised at how Im feeling, I seriously had way more pain for the lumpectomy back in june, this is a breeze......drain is doing good, very minimal fluid.... Big hugs to all the sisters having surgery tomorrow, Keep your chin up and always SMILE, although I cried this morning in pre op waitingroom and on the table
-
Thinking about you all ladies who will be joining me tomorrow for surgery: Jo (brca1953), goldlining, brendaclee3, and Dru (Druanne).
goldlining - I spoke to admissions today and they said that I have to be there at 4:45 am for a 7:30 surgery. UGH!! We'll be heading out for dinner shortly - just soup for me probably.
Ginger - thanks for the wishes. I'm sure all will be well in the end, just gotta get there. The anticipation is the worst part, of course. That and losing a boob. That was NOT in my plan, but it is what it is.
Everyone else, thanks for the good wishes, I'll update you all on the flip side when I can (I'll also probably be on here some more tonight as it's only 5:30 pm in LA).
-
cookiemonster, had to be here for 6AM for an 8AM surgery too, In canada..... You register, then they take you to the pre op waiting area, you change ino your designer gown and housecoast oh ya an paper slippers and hat. then the nurse comes to see you, then 2 OR nurses at seperate times, then the anestegiologist, then an attendant comes to walk you to the OR where they proceed to strap you down, and knock you out.... LOL
-
Good luck to all of you ladies! May your surgery be as quick and painless as mine was! I'm just praying for the clear margins and nodes so I don't have to do it again!
CookieMonster: Enjoy that soup...I didn't get a meal until the next day after surgery so I was a full 24 hours without food. Even the plastic eggs the hospital gave me looked good!
-
yeah, Terry71 - that's similar to my previous surgery, although they had me get into a bed in pre-op and then wheeled me to surgery.
-
My lumpectomy and mx were the same as Terry71. Paper slippers shuffling down the hall. I've had a gurney ride to the OR in other places but not for those two.
My lumpectomy, I was there at 8 for the wire but wasn't in the OR till something like noon but if they explained the reason, I didn't get it. Because the sign language interpreter was booked from 8-10 expecting I'd be in the OR by then and she had another appointment to go to, so she was long gone before I saw any of the doctors and nurses, so I basically had a veterinary lumpectomy. (At least I don't have multiple pairs of breasts like veterinary patients!)
New hospital tomorrow, so new adventures. Will I have a gurney? Will I be in the OR at the scheduled time? My own little cliffhanger for my dreams tonight!
-
Kaara- Hope your results come back good! I haven't been on in a while, but noticed your from my neck of the woods. I had my surgery last Friday. Hoping we will get a shot of cool weather down here soon. I have to start chemo in January and will be trying to avoid germs, so it would be great to have some cooler weather so I can get outside to enjoy some socializing.
-
goldlining- gotta love the paper slipper shuffle huh haha..... lumpectomy was at noon for me and mx was at 8AM grrrrr.... What hospital you gonna be at????? I didnt have a gurney this time yet again, did the paper slipper, paper hat walk yet again..... Good Luck to all the ladies going in tomorrow, BIG HUGS to you all

terry71 I will reply PM

Added to the joy of this early morning surgery (scheduled for 7:30) is that instead of the 5:30 arrival time the doctors' offices told me, the admissions people said I had to be there at 4:45 (oof!!). Mostly I feel badly for DH, he's not a morning person at all and he'll be up for most of the day. I bet he'll sleep well tomorrow night - queen size bed to himself, exhausted, should be GREAT for him.
OK, the stress goofiness is kicking in, apparently.
Thinking good healing wishes to all post- surgery peeps, skilled surgeons' hands to all the surgery peeps, and good future wishes for the surgeries yet to come. And clear margin wishes and negative node wishes to all.

CJRT...Where do you live in Fl? We have a group of ladies here that I've connected with on this site. Hope your surgery went well and you are recovering ok. Mine was Monday and I'm feeling better each day. Should get my path results tomorrow or Friday...nervous about that. I'm doing radiation, but that won't start until about six weeks after surgery. I hate this waiting for results!
-
What Else??? My BMX has been scheduled for a MONTH .... to be done next Tuesday the 20th.
Having Christmas with my family this Saturday since I'll be out next week .... and .....
Today I wake up with the FLU !!! I have been so careful so that that would not happen! Have been cloroxing everything .. sanitizing hands .... probably picked something up at the damn Pre-Op!
-
jstunme: So sorry to hear that...our worst nightmare short of the bc dx. There were so many people coughing in the clinic when I went for my pre op that I was sure I would get sick. One good thing...if you are sick, the Cleveland Clinic has a special place for you to sit, and you have to wear a mask that is issued when you check in at the desk. They said it cuts down on the spread of flu and colds.
Are you sure it's flu...maybe just a bad cold. I'm praying for a quick recovery for you so you can get this process over with. Take lots of vitamin C, vitamin D, and drink fluids to flush it out of your body.
-
Good morning! Heading to the hospital in one hour for my lumpectomy!!! Will be thinking about everyone sharing this surgery date and all the rest of you
Love, light & good pathology reports for all!!
........I will be be back this afternoon!!!
-
Dru...all the best to you! Praying that you have the best possible outcome with your surgery! Don't worry...it's a walk in the park...just take a little nap and you're done. At least you don't have an overnight stay in the hospital! That was a bummer for me! Had to come home to rest up!
-
Thanks Kaara!!!! Good point! I am very happy to get to come home

Got my lumpectomy and SNB results yesterday and finding it hard to stay positive.. Clear margins (yay) but the size went up from 1.1cm to 2cm and the grade rose from Grade 2 to 3. As well as that my sentinal node was positive and .5cm with .06cm extension which was a shock to everyone.
Have decided not to do further clearance but to do scans (CT/bone) to determine if any organ or bone mets and then move straight to chemo/radiotherapy. Appt with oncologist is next Thursday.
So currently I'm sitting at Stage 2A, Grade 3 and will go straight to Stage 4 if any mets found on the scans :-(
Jenn -
Oh Jenn- that really sucks! I am so sorry to hear this news. Praying that the scans look good and you get a plan to move forward on Thursday. Sending hugs your way...
-
Jenn...so very sorry to hear this. I am awaiting the same...final results of my pathology. My BS said there were no surprises when he went in, but until the path comes back he can't know for sure.
I don't know why we get all this preliminary pathology from the biopsy if it is just going to change when we have surgery. It sets you up for the fall. I'm praying for you, that you have no further spread and can begin a treatment program that you are comfortable with.
Sending you positive healing energy!
-
Oh Jenn, I'm so sorry... that sucks. I don't know what is better sometimes... trying to stay positive and optimistic, or expecting the worst and then being delighted when that isn't the case! I had to have a second core needle biopsy after they found my first spot because something came up in the MRI. I just assumed that it was more cancer, but it turned out to be benign!
I'll be sending positive energy your way!!!

Well... I'm almost a week out from my surgery.... you know, although I wouldn't RECOMMEND this to anyone, it isn't all THAT bad. The last thing I remember from my surgery day was shaking with fear on the table and a nurse saying to the anestesiologist (sp!?) do you have anything to help? He said, "I have just the thing...." and that is IT! I still have my pain pump attached, as well as two drains. I have a follow up appt. with the PS tomorrow and the regular surgeon next Tuesday, so I'm hoping to get DIS-connected to stuff soon!
One thing I'm wondering about though... I have had an un-relenting headache since last Thursday, right after the nuclear iodide shot. Has anyone else experienced this??? I can't figure out if it is stress, a result from all the meds, allergies, a reaction from the nuclear iodide or ????
Any thoughts???
Jennifer
-
Jenn- Sorry to hear your news and sending hugs and prayers your way. This bc is such a roller coaster ride. God bless you
-
Hello, all. One week post op. BMX, SNB, TE. No lymph node involvement - just waiting on the other test results now to find out if additional treatment will be needed. The drains are a bother, but am able to keep pain under control with the oral meds. Praying for all of you that have gone or are going through similar symptoms. We will overcome!
