Today my good food choice was...

SAB~my bad cholestrerol wasn't so bad, my good was just in the toilet. someone told me the niacin would help bring that up. Of course if I could just start excerxising......probably would do wonders.....
-
Sagina--I have been struggling with cholesterol for a long time too. In October, after one month of my "rethinking eating" I had dropped 30 points off my total cholesterol count, though my ratio still needs work as well. I'm actually looking forward to my next test, I'm so interested in seeing what happens.
Got fitted for a lymphadema sleeve and tube top today in anticipation of my first flight since bc. My therapist told me that weight loss has reduced and even eliminated lymphadema in some of her patients. I just thought I would pass that along for motivation...
Snacking on green tea, organic brown rice snaps and home made white bean hummus. Roasted parsnips, mixed grains and salad for dinner tonight, along with leftover soup.
-
Gina, had my triglcerides checked back in April and they were 258. My PCP thought that was high despite not having been told to fast for the test. She told me to reduce white bread, white rice and white potatoes to get them down. I didn't completely eliminate them, but I did cut back very conscientiously. Just got retested today and they were 92 (that was fasting though). Now I have to keep up the motivation and not slip backwards. Today having vegetable chilli and a spinach and baby arugula salad for dinner. Excited that I found veggie burgers at whole foods made with quinoa and no soy today as well. They are for another day though.
-
Kay! I'll have some of that veg chili if I may!
Todays good food choice for me surely has to be the green drink I did this morning. Found this organic green powder that includes the whole shabang from spirulina to wheatgrass, chrorella et cetera and mixed a drink with almond milk, green stuff and a dab of turmeric oil first thing in the morning. Not bad at all.
-
Breakfast of sugar free granola with fresh fruit. Lunch of wild rice, and turnips roasted with turmeric and black pepper. Dessert of a square of dark chocolate. 2 cups of green tea. Full.
-
kay- Glad your triglicerides were down, especially after thanksgiving ;-))
I started my diet today, for breakfast I had 2 hardboiled eggs mixed with mustard ( mustard dosn't have calories) can of tuna mixed with mustard only for lunch. Tonight will be baked cod with green beans.
Sab- I do the same thing, when I have a craving for chocolate i have just a square of dark choc it really helps that craving.
-
Kay, I think my bad cholesterol was 137 the good was 44 and the triglycerides were 368, fasting. My family doc thinks it might be genetic since the bad wasn't that bad etc.
I started a vegan diet in March. I feel so much better, but didn't loose a pound and I have about 100 to spare, I know that's awful but it is. I thought eliminated animals would not only be good to fight the cancer but the pounds would melt off....nope.....so now I'm trying to maintain a diet of fish as the only animal, and no white anything. I'm trying to follow "the Belly Fat book" helps you watch carbs and sugar easily. The doc asked me to NOT take niacin since it caused flushing, and I seem to have this weird heat sensitivity going on.....
I also figured out all the pretty colored veggies have the most sugar or carbs, and I was juicing like a mad woman. I had all my carb value in the veggie juice those days without knowing it! So now I am trying for a low fat for the triple negative, fish only for the healthier cells, low carb/sugar for the cholesterol, and I had already given up processed foods and refined sugar.....oh, yeah, I need to add in the exercise! I did buy tennis shoes Friday! One step closer. I'm also parking far away when I can, taking stairs, etc. Gotta start somewhere! Maybe I can get through five minutes without flushing?
So today I had pan seared flounder, cauliflower, napa cabbage and radicchio.
-
Good luck Gina. I know how frustrating it is. Your dinner sounds good, I love flounder!
We had dinner at my bil's today and had a kale and Brussels sprout salad with some kind of grated cheese and lemon vinaigrette. It wasn't bad.
I am going to look up the belly fat book, sounds interesting. -
Sagina - You seem to have made some major positive schanges in your life. It does take a while for the body to catch on though. I have been on a very strict Raw Foodish/veganish diet + cardio/muscle building excercise every day now for three months and it is really only now that I notice a big difference - loosing belly fat, better skin, even my eyes looked clearer this morning. Crazy. Adding a green drinks to my diet made a huge difference to.
Todays good food choices: Green drink w almond milk and turmeric oil. Coffee(ok, not so good), soy milk/cheese(the verdict is not out yet), vegan wheat sausage, red tcoctail omatoes, walnuts, calamata olives and olive/flaxseed oil.
-
Today my good food choice was NOT sampling all the goodies in the aisles at Costco
We are having breakfast for dinner tonight. Egg whites with onions and peppers, fresh fruit and multi-grain toast. Perhaps a smoothie.
-
Banda yes big changes! I really didn't like any of the meat alternatives, so I was probably getting way too much carbs in beans etc. substituting them for my protein. My skin is better, and I don't suffer ANY gastro problems like I did before - that in itself was worth it. I did find myself wanting something hot though, and I do saute veggies or steam them often.
Today for lunch I was out and had a Veggie Burger with mustard, and a side salad - spinach, red onion, green olives, with vinaigrette on the side.
-
Good choices today were 3 cups of green tea, dolsot bibimbop for lunch w/o meat. I had fish cakes, dried seaweed, a bit of kimchee and spicy sweet potatoes with the bibimbop.
-
Avocado and chopped veggie salad in a multi-grain with green tea for lunch. For dinner I have organic chicken breast with artichoke hearts and sun-dried tomatoes baking. Will serve it with wild rice and a small baked yam.
Turmeric oil seems a useful addition to the pantry. Anyone know where to get it?
-
dolsot bibimbop?
For real? Is it as fun to eat as it is to say??
-
For real. It's Korean. You get a big bowl of rice, topped with various veggies and a raw egg is cracked over the top--that's the bibimbop. It comes in a blazing hot sizzling bowl--that's the dolsot. You wait a couple if mins, let the rice crisp on the bottom or brown, squirt s bunch of this spicy chili red sauce on it, mix all together and dig in. It usually comes with mined pork, but I get it without meat.
I took some of the dried seaweed on the table and added it in for another layer of flavor. It's good, and is a lunch that keeps you filled most of the day. -
I bought dried seaweed for a snack at Costco - haven't opened the box yet....
Today I was so unprepared for lunch at my desk - ordered Chinese, shrimp with veggies....
-
Today I had black beans, whole button mushrooms in a balsamic/oil, couscous with mint and grilled zucchini for lunch. Stuff from the salad bar, just a bunch of little sides to go.
Tonight might be an almond butter and jelly sandwich on whole wheat. Don't have time to cook today, and don't have a lot of veggies at the ready. Its either that or a plain omlette with omega 3 eggs and the last of the tomato that I have in the fridge.
-
had a large tossed salad - greens, cucumbers, beets, parsnips, carrots, olives, mushrooms, tomatoes with balsamic vinegar - tart but soooo good.
-
Uck, chicken twice today. First in the leftover multi-grain pasta for lunch and then at a restaurant for dinner, where I tried to minimize the damage by ordering a bowl of brown rice and a chicken sate. I left off most of the yummy peanut sauce. Going to a party tomorrow night, I will try to do my best.
-
Today I had 3 cups of green tea, almond butter on whole grain toast for breakfast and red pepper hummas with carrots for lunch. Tonight will be whole grain pasta with red sauce for me, same for the kids but with turkey meatballs.
-
Just back from Las Vegas where I did make some bad choices (nuff said) but I did have a grilled veggie salad, whole wheat pasta, southwest salad and lots of exercise over the course of 2 days so it could have been worse! Avoided alcohol too, which might explain why I didn't lose money!
-
During the winter months and apples in the store is oatmeal time for me. I take a 9x11 baking dish and dice up organic Gala apples, add lots of organic cinammon, some organic brown sugar, also add raisins or dried cranberries - don't forget LOTS of crushed walnuts.
Bake in oven 375 for 30 minutes with foil cover. I top my morning oatmeal with this by nuke in microwave so all is heated together. Finish with cup of green tea.
It stores well in frig for several days to add to breakfast. I've tossed it with chicken salad over greens for lunch too.
-
Cp418 that sounds wonderful!
Sab welcome home! with money even better!
Today was multigrain cheerios with almond milk and chia seed.
Lunch was tuna on flat bread with mustard and veggies.....yummmm fish is soooo good when you've been animal-less since March. I have noticed a difference in the GI tract though since I started eating fish again....I guess our digestive systems were just all plant eaters? lol.
-
My go-to lunch is to saute a sliced clove of garlic, add a slice of salmon filet (from the freezer) and a pile of frozen broccoli. I add salt on non-steroid days and a little water, a lid and let steam till fish is done. It takes very little time and is nutritious, even if it is not all that exciting.
-
I have come to love spinach salad, been eating it every day. I put a very little feta cheese and a very little bit of walnuts and sometimes a couple of grapes or some diced apple and a liitle bit of balsamic vinaigrette. It can't be good for you, I never unlike anything that's good for you. LOL
-
Kay, in general I find that adding a tiny bit of a strong-tasting cheese, like feta or bluecheese, as well as nuts of some kind to a green salad makes a good lunch.
-
Momine~love your idea for salmon and broccoli! I've been picking up fresh fillets since I wasn't sure how the frozen ones would cook. You go straight from the freezer to the pan?
Today was Cheerios with almond milk and chia seed for breakfast.
Lunch is shrimp with veggies Chinese take out.....
-
CP418, I am going to use your recipe soon. That sounds really really good.
SAB--welcome home!
Good food choices today were veggie stir fry and brown rice and 2 cups of green tea today. Last night good choice was a veggie burger while dining out for my daughter's birthday. Bad choice was having a larger piece of birthday cake than I should have. I heard the voices telling me "no" and then "just a sliver". But the stronger, more pushy, demanding voice of "screw that--treat yourself mamma" won.
-
Sagina, yes, straight from freezer to pan. I use a non-atick pan with a little olive oil and to steam just a tiny bit of water and a lid. If you have a steamer that would work too and ginger and/or a few shiitakes are a good addition as well.
I make it when I am wiped from chemo, but still need something to eat. I am sure other frozen fish would work too, as long as it is filet and not too thin.
What are chia seeds?
-
Corinne I know that voice! She's been showing up in my head more and more. I think I have to go reread anti-cancer in order to quiet her down.
It's sandwich night at our house tonight, and I will include multi grain wraps on the "sandwich bar" and make some white bean hummus, salad and fresh veggies to fill it with. Hopefully that will keep me away from the crusty bread and mayo. I have decided not to buy mayo anymore. Switching to Vegganaise as soon as I get rid of what we have. My pantry is a process...
My good choice for lunch-multi grain crackers with a big bowl of tomato soup and a big asian pear.
