Heidi2 - Just watched your video and I am ready to move to NC! Gorgeous! And your horses are so beautiful and chill. And all that grass! I am jealous of Horsedoc's pasture too. None of that in my part of the desert southwest...
-
BlueCowgirl- actually, Blowing Rock was a bit hairy IMO for carriage driving but I'd go back to ride there in a second. We try to go somewhere each spring with the horses. So far we've spent a month in Maine carriage driving and sailing (my other passion), two weeks in NC, time in KY for The National Drive, time in New York at Rockefeller Preserve, Gettysburg National Battlefield (requires a special permit) and Fair Hill, MD.
We love Gettysburg and, now that hubby has finally summed up his courage to ride (finally have something quiet enough) we are going to ride the battlefield also.
What the heck, here's some links to some places we've been:

Love this! Am a horse lover as well! Gonna try and figure out how to post pics. Of course I want to show off my beautiful Girl! Gonna keep my eye on this love the pics and convos!
-
Welcome, Tmac! Looking forward to more pics!
For those concerned about new slaughter ruling, here is what I think is a well-written, informative article that does a great job explaining something very complex:

HeidiToo - Loving your videos and though I haven't watched them all yet, I am very much looking forward to doing so. Although the locations are amazing, my favorite part is the familiar, wonderful, beautiful, clip-clop sound of the horses that I haven't heard in real-life for waaay too long. I miss my horses and farm SO much, but it has been so comforting listening to the sound of hoofbeats and seeing that wonderful view through your horses' ears, IMO the best way to see the world whether astride or in a carriage. A million thanks for brightening my day
-
Cowgirl- here's another:
http://albums.phanfare.com/isolated/4Oub3mim/1/5375555
It's the same link but with another video added.
It doesn't have any clip clop sound... but does the sound of waves on sand do anything for you?

Well, the most important thing to do before surgery is trim hooves. I got the 3 mules all done today & 2 more to do tomorrow. (Our youngest horse came off the range with little/no handling. She only sometimes lets me rub her legs, no picking them up yet much less trimming. Thankfully, she has pretty good hooves.)

Blue and I. Blue is my husbands retired ranch horse. After I was diagnosed with advanced cancer in March I decided to learn how to barrel race. Blue and I weren't the fastest, but we sure had a lot of fun!

Chele, I love it that you took up barrel racing!! you go, girl.
-
I only have a second and then need to tend to my dh - will be back later but hoping that this picture will come out.
-
Well now that I have figured out the picture process again I will submit more pictures tonight. Unfortunately I don't have any recent pictures of her. See ya'll later.
-
Just because I can't help myself - here are some more....
-
Another one....
-
Last one for tonight.....you can really see her personality through this picture.
-
Hello Everyone! Welcome Chele! It's awesome that you took up barrel racing, and Noodle, are you talking about actually doing the trimming yourself? Props to you both!
Jancie, your mare is absolutely gorgeous! I especially love the 2nd photo! She reminds me a lot of a client's horse I adored:

Lovely mare!

Thanks cowgirl and bluecowgirl! I've ridden most my life, just never did get into barrels and poles. I've been watching my niece run both the past few years so I decided what the heck! Figured if I was ever going to I'd better do it now while I still can.
Blue was hubby's ranch horse. A few years ago Blue grass foundered. He stayed at the ranch another year but was not treated and only got worse. Morbidly obese with laminitis, he was in sad shape. I convinced FIL to let me bring him to town to drylot him. I've been trimming my horses hooves myself for many years, so I got to work on Blue. It took a year but I got the weight off him and got him 100% sound. FIL gave him to me. Because of my bone mets I can't risk riding one that might toss me. Blue is safe and sane - a perfect match! -
Yay, more awesome pictures up!!!!
I finally saw the ad on tv for the "War Horse" movie. I have to see that!!!!!! If it comes out on Christmas in my town I'll be there. (probably by myself, haha)
Tomorrow's a fun day for me.(not) Mammogram first, then THREE doc appointments. Going to be a long day! I am proud of myself for getting all that scheduled in one day though; I have to go "across the bridge" (Chesapeake Bay) to Baltimore to my appointments so I hate having to make lots of trips. I just found out a few days ago that my uterus is now ganging up on me/my body is having an estrogen festival I guess, and I now have a thickened endometrium. Something else to be "monitored". Ugh.
Guess I should post another picture to counteract that last paragraph: This is Em and I XC schooling last weekend.
-
Did I mention I have tickets to War Horse on Christmas Day in here? My entire family is going (hubby and two adult sons) and we are also dining out that day (except with one other occasion after my mom died we have always had a traditional dinner at home).
I told my boys that that is all I want for Christmas.... them and a horse movie. I can't wait!
-
Horsedoc, thinking of you today and sending positive vibes for the best possible outcome at all those appointments.
-
Ok, i'm about to investigate Photo Bucket! small steps. lead to big steps!!
-
Cowgirl - If you have a facebook account, that works too. That's what I use.
-
Oh, cool!
-
-
Cowgirl, if you open up a facebook photo, right click and "save image url", that is what you paste into add picture link, the one that looks like a tree. Then you click on the size box and the size pops up automatically - you can then change it if you want. It took me a good long while to figure this out...Also you have to make sure on facebook that your image is available for public viewing for this to work.

Good news and bad news! My horse is 3 legged lame. I know that sounds weird stating that is good news but think of how many times people take their cars to the shop and everything is suddenly working!
My awesome vet is coming out on Thursday at 10:30 am. I went out there today and put her on the lunge line in both directions at the walk and trot. She didn't look lame, obviously she wasn't moving from behind like she normally does but if you didn't know her - all steps were equal and you would have thought she was ok.
I got on her and she would not bend to the left (her favorite direction) - same thing as last Saturday other than maybe 2% better.
Put her in the trot and I knew instantly that she was 3 legged lame. I stopped immediately, took her tack off and gave her carrots.
I won't see her tomorrow as I have an appt with my oncologist but my friend will give her carrots for me.
I told my trainer that I wanted to make sure that we were on the same page. This horse is insured and I don't need problems with the insurance company because we injected her hocks if that is what is really needed. If Addequan (sp?) will work I would rather go that route.
Horsedoc - can the vet block the hock area to eliminate problems elsewhere? If that area can be blocked and we can determine for sure it is her hocks I would feel more comfortable about injecting them. We are going to take x-rays of her back legs for sure.
The odd thing to me is that she moves so much better until you put weight on her back and actually ride her that it makes me wonder if there is something going on with her back instead? I do check saddle fit regularly because she was still having growth spurts as of 2 months ago. I really wish she would stop growing.
I am not so concerned about OCD in her joints as I have been so careful about her weight and keeping it balanced - no major weight gains or losses. She would lose weight every single time she had a growth spurt so I was constantly monitoring her weight. I kept her on the "light" side. Even the vet was surprised how well I monitored it and said I did a much better job than he has done with his WB babies.
-
Chele - took me some time but I was able to pull up the picture of Blue - nice nice horse!
And there is a lot to say about having a sane and safe horse! I never did learn how to ride any of the western disciplines but I do enjoy learning about them.
T-Mac - still waiting on pictures!! If you are having problems figuring it out and want my help - you can always PM me for my email addy and I will post them for you.

This is a really cool thread! I have always owned saddlebreds...Right now I have a 9 year old chestnut gelding named Dante, who is primarily a pleasure driving horse. I also ride an 11 year old Pinto named Tiger. I just returned from a show on Sunday, the first since my MX in July!
Thanks for starting this thread! Best to all...
-
Welcome barbados. Unfortunately your pictures didn't come out. Hopefully you will see this and repost.
I love the name Dante for a horse! My mare has a half brother named Dante.

Count me in on this group, love the idea, I will definitely mark it as my first and probably only favorite topic! I would so love to show everyone pictures of me and my horse, and tell you his name, but I want to think first about my privacy issues in doing so. Because I can talk to others on this site about BC issues and share my fears and concerns with out fear of friends or family knowing what is going on behind my normal calm, cool, collected persona. I really hesitate to leave identifying information connected to my posts. I really do not share anything with anyone outside of this forum. I fear for my employment if employer knew the uncertainty of my health, I do not want to frighten my children or family, and I don't want to bore my friends. I do not really even share much with my counselor I have seen on and off for years, beginning prior to my diagnosis, even though often the simple focus on just getting to my next scheduled appointment time with her was honestly the only thing that got me through treatments. I especially do not like to bring breast cancer into the barn, my one special place of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation......I just love and adore my horse, and all my horsey friends at the barn!!!!!!! Giddyup
