Hi everyone, I had a scan today so my only food choice was BARIUM....is that vegan? lol.
I ate at our very popular vegetarian restaurant (who makes anything on the menu vegan) this week for lunch - had an awesome classic club - avocado, sprouts, tomatoes, on whole wheat and vegan chipolte mayo (had a nice smoked flavor) with a bowl of mushroom soup - that was delicious. I had Hibiscus mint tea for the first time. Does anyone have any knowledge of this tea? I noticed after two glasses I had to potty about 6 times....I looked it up and found that it is used to treat high blood pressure, which I guess makes sense as you get rid of extra fluid....
It was rather tasty too! I'm going to have to ask what brand they use. I bought one at Whole Foods yesterday, but it didn't have the same flavor.
Happy Gobble Gobble - for tomorrow my DH is making (to take to my mom's who made the traditional) rosemary, lemon roasted golden beets, and asparagus and mushrooms. He's terrified I won't eat otherwise....if you could see me you would know I would be okay skipping a meal....but he is soooo sweet.

Home made green pea soup with sweet potatoe and red onion for lunch. Basil paté on my whole wheat bread and Japanese cabbage sallad with toasted sesame seeds. Yummy!

Morning all. The only good food choices that I made yesterday were the raw veggies that I snacked on for lunch and made a big pile of at dinner. Along with my bad choices.
Today back in the saddle again. Good choices will be more raw veggies, whole wheat crackers, roasted brussel sprouts with dried cranberries and walnuts. I have a lot of leftovers in the house, but I also have a lot of house guests right now. Going to try to have them eat the turkey, stuffing, potatoes and pies today. I am seriously putting out pie for breakfast. I have 6 kids (not including my own smaller kids) that are btw the ages of 17 and 23--my neices and nephews. Of which 4 are boys. I am hoping that they clear out my fridge for me before they leave.

Mixed some kale in with my cabbage/sesame seed salad. Plenty of fruit; pear-apple, regular organic pear, apple, canteloupe. Goat cheese on my bread this morning, along with yellow pepper and walnuts. added white raddish to my diet today. Sweet.
Corrine - yes I think your fridge will be empty soon. The brussel sprouts with dried cranberries and walnuts sounds brilliant. Thank, i'll try that soon.
So much to be thankful for today.

Hi Babnba, welcome to you and the new good ideas you bring.
Thanksgiving was wonderful, we had 25 for dinner and all the bad foods...but we made our sweet potatoes with omega3 butter and agave, and included fennel and apple salad, spinach salad and quinoa veggi pilaf. Amazing how many people gravitated to the healthier offerings...hmmmm. Of course it all fell apart at dessert time. My choice for dessert was a square of Ghiardelli dark chocolate.
Back on the wagon with the rest of ya'all. Wasa with peanut butter and banana for breakfast. Wash it down with a short glass of apple cider spiked with apple cider vinegar, which my SIL brought and swears by.

Sunny morning in Uppsala, Sweden. Ate my wholewheat bread with vegan paté again but have now added stevia to my coffee/rice milk instead of honey. Pak choy, almonds and yellow pepper on the side.

Acetobacter is the bacteria that converts alcohol into Acetic Acid(Vinegar) and it is ubiquitous. Just leave an open bottle of wine lying around for a couple of weeks and Acetobacter will find it quickly and convert it into wine vinegar. Acetobacter is also found in your intestines where the alcohol produced by the yeast in your gut is converted into vinegar. Your liver also produces vinegar when it metabolizes alcohol. When a molecule takes on an Acetyl(from vinegar) it is said to be acetylated and this distinction is quite significant as I will argue in this post!
Acetylation is currently at the forefront of pharmaceutical research because it greatly enhances the Adsorption and Bio-Availability of molecules once in the body. So any drug or nutrient( like an amino acid) once acetylated is much more effective and can be taken at significantly lower doses than it would take without it to achieve the same results. Apparently this is largely achieved because the acetyl acts like a negative charge patch although the exact mechanisms are still being studied.
Two major pathologies seems to be triggered by the over-expression of certain deacetylating molecules, Alzheimer’s Disease and the over-expression of the deacetylating molecule for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and cancer seems to involve the over expression of the deacetylating enzyme of Histones, histone deacetylaze.

While I'm making corrections I might as well tell you what I had for breakfast. A Trader Joe whole wheat crumpet with Omega 3 spread and some melon.

Where is everyone? Eating bad leftovers? I did a little of that too, but I made a good choice for breakfast: No sugar added granola. Sprinkled in my own chopped, unsweetened dried apricots and raisens, some vanilla, cinnamon and chopped almonds. For dinner I had a fruit plate and green tea. I'd rather not mention what I had in between
!

Big lunch yesterday: grilled butternut squash with garlic and fresh rosemary. Warm salad with kale, fresh spinach, endive, tomatoe, walnuts and qinoua. Potatoe/leek soup made with rice milk which was interesting but tasty. Wholewheat bread with organic peanutbutter.

Good choices today include 2 cups of green tea, broccoli salad and a 1/2 a red hummus veggie wrap.
Tonight will be turkey salad on whole grain bread and squash. I am hoping that these leftovers will be gone by Wednesday.

Wasa and peanut butter-my old standby for breakfast. A multi-grain wrap containing turkey (what else) 1/2 avocado and salad plus a few multigrain chips for lunch. Apple for snack.

Banba - that's really interesting. So is it possible that when you drink a glass of wine, it converts to something like vinegar in the gut... and therefore maybe that's why drinking wine persistently proves beneficial in studies?

You all sound like you have me beat for good food choices. My day started out great with green tea instead of coffee. I had two scrambled eggs, throwing in basil and black pepper..then I juiced greens, celery, spinich, carrots, and a pear and a lemon. 12 oz. juice...very refreshing, curbs my appitite for lunch, but I ate leftover turkey and (not so healthy). But back on track for dinner with a balsamic vinigarette on spinich, romaine, dried cranberries, walnuts and feta cheese. I am trying to stay under 1200 calories, 10 lbs to lose! Thanks for all the positive energy, this is a great thread!

good morning everyone! My scans were clear, so the barium was worth it, although it threw my stomach into shock! All better now.
Today I had whole grain cheerios, with unsweet almond milk with a tablespoon of Chia seeds.

For dinner, a HUGE sallad with kale, fresh spinanch, savoy, endive, organic tofu, balsam vineager, oliv/flaxseed oil, sunflowerseeds, red pepper, leek and brussel sprouts. Green tea, a pear and fresh raspberries and walnuts for desert.

Great news Sagina!
This morning had a bowl of kashi with almond milk and for lunch I am having a 1/2 red hummus veggie wrap, broccoli salad and a small cup of melon.
Tonight will be the last of the turkey. I plan on making turkey crepes with swiss for the kids and spinach and tomato for me.

Sagina-I just tried chia! Put it on my salad last night. Other than looking like bugs they weren't even noticed
Banba-Any chips that are made from multiple types of grains...Trader Joes, Whole Foods (you may not have this resource) or any health foods section of your market will have them. Look for chips made with quinoa, chia, brown rice, blue corn, whole wheat or barley, etc. They are still fattening, but much healthier since they do not raise your glycemic index as much as potato chips, for example. Try to stay away from safflower, sunflower or palm oils and look for canola or olive instead. Anything else I forgot ladies?
Today I was in a bad situation, out shopping...chose Chipotles for my fast food frenzy and managed ok...green salad topped with brown rice and black beans, corn salsa and yes, guacamole. Could have been worse!

I love Chipotle -- it's just about the healthiest "fast food" around. I have their app on my iPhone, even -- so I never have to stand in line. And hey, I consider guacamole a healthy choice! Avocados are loaded with good fats and works miracles for our skin -- good guacamole is all that avo goodness plus garlic, onions, peppers... one bonus after another!

Another red pepper hummus wrap today. I go to the cafe at lunch and usually get their "healthy choices meal"-which is a choice of a half a veggie wrap, or half a turkey wrap or chicken pecan salad. I was laughing today as the turkey avacado wraps don't seem to be moving. Wonder why?
This week they only seem to be offering red pepper hummus. Other weeks it is black bean or white bean...but its still tastey and I am not sick of it. Yet.
Tonight I am making a portobello mushroom and basil pasta dish. I am trying to get rid of leftovers and I am turkey-ed out. I purchased some portobellos last week and never used them. I am thinking just a simple grilled/sliced portobello tossed with basil pasta with EVOO, salt/pepper and maybe a little bit of parm.

Sounds yummy Corinne. I just got home from the market. Tonight's dinner will be grilled asparagus with mixed grains and organic chicken breast. I'm also making a no fat veggie split pea soup.

I hope this was a good food choice, went to ihop for breakfast and had scrambled egg beaters and multigrain pancakes. Are egg beaters healthy? The pancakes were good, had a nutty taste. The egg beaters were good too, tasted just like regular eggs.

Hi Kay! Well, you got me curious (I love pancakes) so I looked it up! The egg beaters seem to be a good choice, they have about 30 calories, no fat and 6 grams of protein for every quarter cup. Of course you have to be suspicious about any food with "cake" in the name, and so it should come as no surprise that the pancakes were each about 180 calories, 9 grams of fat
. And an ounce of syrup at ihop contains 110 calories
!
Calories aside, you may want to measure foods like that by the refined sugars or flours they use. Multi-grain is an excellent choice since multiple grains help cut the glucose. But that yummy syrup...

Read the thread back a few days to see tons of yummy ideas from the ladies who post here. They have helped me so much, and I have been losing weight and feeling quite energetic even with starting tamoxifen, and without counting calories. I started rethinking my food at the beginning of September when I read "anti-cancer" and watched "forks over knives."

I wanna come over for dinner - to all your houses!!!!!!!!!! I'm incorporating fish back into the diet so yesterday was yellow fin tuna salad over steamed brussel spouts, spinach, and swiss chard. Mind you I make all this in a microwave at work! The tuna I bought mixed at whole foods. I'm going to have to lower my triglycerides any ideas? I bought red rice yeast, going to get some nacin non flushing - can't believe some one makes that! For breakfast I did the cheerios with unsweet almond milk with a spoonful of chia seeds. If you let them soak up some of the milk they puff up a little, no taste though, that's good.

Just a quick note Gina--when I took red rice yeast it elevated my liver enzymes because it is a statin so work with your doctor.

Thanks SAB! I will go back and see what I can find. They did have sugar free syrup, so that was a plus. And they had blueberries in the pancakes as well. That is more calories and fat than I would have thought. I guess you're right though and I shouldn't be surprised. I am glad I kept the sugar down though.
