I'm thinking of serving rutabagas.
Bren, I'm so sorry about your cousin. Being able to visit her brought comfort to both of you, I hope.
Blue, stable is good, yes? Seven years without progression... I didn't know there was anything they could do until you told us about your surgery and the re-wiring involved. I learn so much stuff on these Boards.... much of it having nothing to do with breast cancer.
This has been a tough month. A tough year. I'm thinking really hard to come up with things I should be thankful for.
Maybe I'll buy some brussel sprouts when I make my last-minute run to the grocery store tomorrow.

We had brussels sprouts on the weekend -- sauteed in olive oil, then mixed mushrooms were added, then white wine to simmer, and then finished with.......wait for it......BUTTER!
Just read an article about DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) now being used for dystonia (look it up, please!) by the same docs who helped Blue.
Otter -- you have been through so, so much this year -- with your family, and with your BCO pals, not to mention the tornado. But you'll know what you're thankful for; we all find those things in the back of our minds, and then we bring them to the forefront, where they need to be, to remind us.
And don't forget the cranberries while you're at the store!
Hugs to all!

Good Morning Friends!
Well .. the pies are made and the stuffing and green bean casseroles are ready to go. The apple pie looks beautiful. I used green apples so it would be a tiny bit tart.
Then my mom and I went to the dump. I have some cleaning yet to do ... then we'll be ready for tomorrow.
I'm grateful Tim will be home for the day. He thought he was going to be on the road, but it worked out that he will be here tomorrow and gone again early Friday a.m. My mom is leaving Friday a.m. as well. Sure will be quiet around here!
Otter ... I'm grateful for you. That's my grateful for Wednesday morning. I'm also grateful they found Brenda's mets when they did. Thank goodness for the chest xray she had, or it could have been a long time before they were found.
We're so broke .. thank god for the goodness of family. It's amazing that even though I am so stressed about the bills, I can still find some things to be grateful about.
Hope everyone is having a good day,
hugs,
Bren

It finally rained - more to come today!!!

I almost brought a kitty home with me yesterday. He was so cute and fell in love with me. He kept purring on my lap. Too bad both Ray and I are allergic to cats. He was up for adoption at my vets.
-
Aww Bren. I am sending you a great big ((HUG))).
I second Bren, Otter, I am grateful for you as well.
Blue, love litties.
-
Well all is ready for the big turkey day. I'm pooped from all the work, put the pies are ready, the creamed onions are done, stuffing is ready, house is clean.
I agree with all the others Otter, you have been such a great support for me this past year.
Now to relax for the rest of the day!
-
I am VERY thankful that I still am here today, speaking with all you special ladies. I am also thankful that everyone of you are here supporting one another and are on the road to healing or are healed. Every day is a GIFT. I don't like the alternative...so for me I find lots to be thankful for.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
-
I am sooo grateful that Thanksgiving dinner is at my daughter's house this year.I am also grateful my DH is making the pies. I'm not so happy my son with the newest grandchild won't be here. They live 6 hours away. They were coming but somebody quit at his work and he has to work.
I am grateful for feeling better every day the last six months (Yay no more Femara) and I am grateful for you all who get it. Even my DH, who has been, on the whole, wonderful, tells me I have to quit thinking about cancer.
-
EVERYONE here is on my THANK YOU list - Thanksgiving Day, and every day.
Bren - so sorry about your cousin, and thankful you made the effort to see her - I'm sure it made a HUGE difference for her, and for you. Hope the transition is peaceful, painfree.
Question: I asked this in the Complementary Forum on the Vitamin D thread. Just had my yearly physical, and taking 4,000 ius of Vitamin D3 a day ( good quality, no soy, 4 capsules spread out thru the day with food) my blood test dropped from 48 to 35! WTF! Anybody have this happen taking that high a dose?
The good news - my cholesteral went from 206 down to 183. Was 165 before I started Arimidex. Not a complaint, but I am PROUD of myself for getting it down! Thanks to Niacin, Fish Oil, going Dairy Free ( God, I miss cheese, all cheese, any cheese - think I was a mouse in an earlier life?) oatmeal and some almonds. BP still about 20 points higher than pre AI. But, acceptable for a 66 year old LAZY person ;-)
Happy, Happy Thanksgiving to all - hope we're all here next year, in good health, to celebrate!
-
{{Rosemary}} Hugs to you! And hugs to Artsee too.
In fact hugs to all!
I am blessed to have you all as friends.
-
For all my American friends!

-
I am thankful for all of you being here for me through my second go-round with the Beast. Even if I don't post often, I sit in the corner of BCOB&G nursing my G&T or my silly sloe gin fizz and watch with love and gratitude how we all love each other and support each other .. And how we all GET IT. Thank you all for being here, for sharing, for understanding.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Thank you for being here.
My house is cleaned, my grocery shopping is done. My 23-year old son asked me a couple of weeks ago, "Mom, do you mind if I cook Thanksgiving dinner?" I do not mind! It's so nice to have a son that likes to cook.
I hope and wish for all of us at least one day where we don't think about cancer.

Sunflowers,
I take 50,000 unit capsule of VitD once a week. Brought my levels from 17 a year ago to 58 last month. The last level was drawn when I finished chemo in May. I also take a daily Viactive chew.
-
Thankyou all for being you!!!
-
sewing nut - is that the D2 you take??? I've always thought the D3 was better to take. I'm just so surprised my level would DROP taking so much. Wonder if there is something keeping my body from processing, or absorbing the D3?? Have tried googling, but can't find anything.

You are all so kind, and you are right -- I have many things to be thankful for. Of course, everyone here is on that list. I was just feeling off-kilter again. (I just learned that "Off Kilter" is a Celtic-rock band. Who knew?....)
I've been especially worried about my MIL and my dad for the past few weeks. They're the only parents I have left, and they're both really frail and in poor health. I was just starting to relax after their most recent medical crises when I found out my sister had lost her job of 20 years. She is single, in her late-50's, and was an ER nurse ever since graduating from nursing school a millenium ago. Now, she has no income, no health insurance, no safety net; and she's struggling to deal with this devastating blow to her self-confidence and professional identity. She sounded so lost when she called to tell me. She said, 'I don't even know what I'm supposed to do now...". I am just sick for her. We live a thousand miles apart, and I can't hug her while I tell her it will be okay. At least she has other family nearby and can reach out to them. I am thankful for that.
The turkey (breast) is thawing in the fridge; the sweet potatoes and dressing and other essentials are ready to fix; and Mr. otter brought home the cranberry sauce I forgot to buy last weekend. It will be warm and sunny tomorrow. It will be a good day.

I am thankful for all of you wise women. I have learned so much from you that was not addressed in my doctor's office...Happy Thanksgiving!
-
Otter,
Sending warm hugs to you and your family. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. And a good Advent, a Glorious Christmas Season and an Wonderful Epiphany!!!
Blessings.
-
I'm thankful for all you women. You give me giggles and sometimes pause for thought.
-
I am sending warm hugs to all my 'People are strange' friends. Pie number one. I am not a stickler for symmetry.

-
I want some Barb,
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
-
Happy Thanksgiving to all you wonderful women!
Calm before the storm here ... drinking coffee and thinking that I should start doing stuff.
I'm thankful for our little corner of the world here ... and for all of you. You never quite know what you will find when you open the door and walk into our B&G ... but there are always ears to listen and hearts to care and interesting conversation and belly laughs too. It's a lovely place!

Did not realize how much energy I've lost in the past three years until my SIL asked me to come yesterday to "help" with the preparations for today. She made green bean casserole, dressing, dinner rolls, cheesy potato casserole, fried brussel sprouts, macaroni and cheese casserole, stewed spiced apples, and FOUR kinds of cookies. All in quantities to feed 40 friends and family. And all from scratch!
I struggled and succeeded in finally getting the mini pumpkin bread muffins done. Had a "mix" for these. (oh, and I helped wash the dishes).
I am supposed to bring a pie ... Do you think the bakery is open this morning? -
Scuttlers, I hear you. JUst steal Barbara's!!!!!!!! hahahhahha
-
We are just getting moving here. I have to pick up before we leave for my daughter's house. My DH made pies last night and is cleaning the kitchen. My house is so disorganized and messy now. I have worked six day weeks for the last six weeks(ETA: 5-6 hours a day). I could not have done that on Femara so I have come a long way but I am still also amazed by what my family and freinds can do. They keep going long after I am worn out and they just don't get why.
-
Who cares about symmetry? It looks good enough to eat!! Yumm.
I busted my butt making a reservation this year. Yeah, that was tough. Kids are out of state at in-laws, so I didn't have to do a thing. Was invited by my brother but declined. I think they were feeling sorry for us. It's o.k....I can nap after visiting my house bound 90 year old mom. She doesn't want to be here any more, but that's not any ones choice.
Otter, I pray that your sister after all those years tucked away a good amount in a 401K. Things will work out and I've always said things happen for a reason. Hopefully a much better job is waiting in the wings. Happened to our friend at 59 and he's making more $ now than all the years before.
Well, it's off to church...everyone have a wonderful day with your loved ones.
-
Rabbit .. just came in from raking leaves and now enjoying another cup of coffee with you. The calm before the hectic begins! My family is due around 2 p.m. today. Everything is just about ready to go. Tim got the turkey in the oven already.
Barbara ... what kinds of apples do you use in your pie? It looks delicious!
Otter ... I am so sorry for your sister. I understand exactly how she feels. It doesn't feel good at all. I hope something turns around for her soon.
I hope everyone is having a great day!
hugs,
Bren

What a delicious pie, thank you Barbara.
Turkey in over, ala Mark Bittman, smells delicious.
Otter - how can that be - a NURSE, can't be a job much more important today - the world really is crazy. I hope she finds the right place for her caring skills.
Chuckled, just b4 I peeled the turnip - from Canada on the label, over the waxy surface. Thanks to friends north of the bordere for contributing to this new recipe ;-))
Happy today to all.
