Hi- Has anyone seen the video on Youtube with the woman whose hair is growing back after chemo? You can find it by using the words Hair Growth-Post Chemotherapy in the search engine. It's the one posted by drealyn. It's really inspirational to see her great smile and the hopeful look on her face as each week goes by. It'll make you feel good just to watch it.
-
dexxy - I started Tamoxifen about 5-6 weeks ago. It was about three weeks after chemo ended, since I did not have rads. I have not had any particular problems. I already had hot flashes, which the Effexor seems to finally be helping.
kk11 - The lift surgery was easier than a mastectomy, but harder than the expander swap (done at the same time but one side felt better sooner than the other). There are pretty significant incisions/scars, but I know they will fade. Because I had lift with a small implant, I have an incision all the way around the nipple, one straight down, and then another where the fold of the breast is. They actually move the nipple up. The difference in appearance of my breast is significant, and close to the size and position of the MX side. My biggest concern has been that I have very little feeling in the nipple. My doctor says most of that should return with time.
You're a lot younger than I am, so your "good" breast is probably in better shape than mine was :-). The implant was to add some fullness at the top to be closer to what the MX side would look like. I still have lots of healing left to do - and I know the MX side will change some in the next couple of months - but am glad I did it. Sounds wise to wait until after you have kids if you want to breast feed (I'm just guessing?), since you might lose that ability with the surgery.
But, of course, you don't need to think about any of this for a while. Just file it away for the future :-)
Hope everyone is doing well with rads, final chemo, and recovery of all kinds!

Hi everyone - Dexxy, I've been on Tamoxifen for probably 2 months now. I'd call the MO office and ask if you should start before your next appt. Although the delay in Tam probably won't hurt at all, I'd call before I'd wait. BTW, no significant side effects from the Tam for me. Little irritations like toe cramps and night sweats, but nothing difficult. Good luck!
shiny - I didn't have taxol, but what you're describing certainly sounds like what I hear other people saying about their taxol side effects.
misswim - thinking of you - how is your brother in law?
Ana - so glad you're doing well. Thinking of you...
-
He's here, so that is good. My husband visted today, and I'll visit on Weds. No real update but they are working on getting him stable and more comfortable. Thanks for all your good wishes ladies
I am 3 weeks PFC and must say, I am tired, but today I went the whole day feeling like my old self, and that was GREAT. I also went to my husband's grandmother's 94th birthday. I thought I would share with you that she is a 30 plus year survivor. She's awesome. I also got a call from my credit union manager congratulating me on the big finish. She is a 23 year survivor. Diagnosed in her 30's. she's awesome.
They made me feel great in an otherwise awful week. I started tamox and I will say, no side effects yet. Insomnia, but had that before, so can't blame it on the meds. Thinking of all of you
-
misswim - at 3 weeks PFC I felt really good. At 4, wow!!! It gets better - enjoy feeling better physically. Emotionally I know you're having a tough time with your brother in law. Thanks for the survivor stories. I love those!!!!!
thinking of you.
-
Misswim - Glad you're feeling physicaly better post chemo. Your BIL is still in my prayers.
Ana - Yes, I do still have some time before I will get the lift. If there is numbness in the nipple area though, I might almost rather have the other side removed after I'm done having kids because then at least I'm protected from more cancer on the other side. I don't know. Sometimes I wonder if I should have just had both removed.
Dexxy - I've been on Tamoxifen almost a month. I was allowed to start it about 2 weeks PFC so I would ask your onc how soon you can start it. So far no major side effects. I already had the hot flashes before from the chemo, so I can't really tell any difference between those and the ones I get now.
Shinypop - Sorry about the uncle and your aunt's family. 2011 just hasn't been a very good year for any of us, has it? I have several friends and family members dealing with cancer right now as well. As for the numbness in your heel, I had something similar while going through Taxol, but it has improved and I don't notice it most days.
Well, I turned 29 on Friday (11/11/11). My brother and sister in law threw me a birthday party and I had a great time. 29 HAS to be better than 28!
-
Happy Birthday Kristien! I'm sure 29 will totally be better.
I'm just lying in bed losing the fight to fatigue. Thank goodness for easy to make meals in the crock pot. I think I'm really stressed cuz my critters have had emergencies the past two weeks. Maybe I should get pet insurance. lol
-
shinypop-sorry to hear about you're pets. nothing worse than when they are sick since they can't tell us. I know when mine end up in emergency I feel so helpless. Not to mention the bill!
also I have been having crazy foot weirdness all along. The crazy part is it has actually gotten worse since chemo. I had not problems during or right after. Now to feels like swelling and the soreness from being on them all day just compounds the pain. Now my hands are swelling in the night so they ache as well. Hoping it goes away soon. hugs to all
-
Well, I made it out of bmx surgery. I have been soaking up the help that my mom has been giving coming in to visit from MI for a week. I am still very sore and taking lots of naps, but improving slightly each day.
I hope to get the more extensive pathology at Wednesday's appointment. So far I am hearing that nothing was found in the lymph nodes. More later!
-
Yeah! Jbug fingers and toes crossed that you continue to heal fast and you hear only positive results.
Today I had my last rads -
Dexxy, yeah for you
J-Bug, that is AWESOME. Such a good feeling, I am sure. I knoww after my MX that was the biggest relief. I am so happy for you.
I'm off to the onc to have the 30 day post chemo check up, and pick up my "metformin" (I have my fingers crossed I am getting the real stuff!) on Weds. I am looking forward to that.
Will also be visiting our ill family member, who is at the same cancer center, inpatient. I am steeling myself for that visit. My husband told me yesterday that it is very important to show strength. I am going to go in there with my bald head and show him that he can do this. But last night I cried like a baby at all cancer has done to our family..........then I got angry. Because I WILL not give cancer my power.....and that has to be my attitude. Otherwise, I'll fall apart.
-
dexxy and j-bug - congrats!!!
-
oh and happy belated birthday kk!
-
JBug, glad to hear good news! Wishing you continued good news and a speedy recovery.
Happy birthday Kristien!
Dexxy, very happy for you! Congrats! I noticed my foot tingling has continued PFC. I have read on other threads that it can take months to improve.
Misswim, prayers to your family.
Ellen, hoping you are doing ok?? Haven't heard from you for a while.
I am nearly 4 weeks PFC. I have had 4 rads/ 29 to go. My tamox will start when I am done with rads. I started to have some weird kinky hair growth a few weeks before my last tx. I went and had it buzzed down again so I could track new growth. I am actually seeing a little growth already but oddly still seeing some fall out in my stocking cap too. I started to see some energy back last week but paid for it and spent the weekend chilling out. But progress it progress... -
J-bug - Glad to hear you're done with surgery. Rest and take care of yourself.
Dexxy - Congratulations on finishing radiation. I had some ankle swelling a few weeks ago and still have some pain in my toes and fingers off and on. Must still be chemo in the system. How'd your skin fare with the radiation. I'm starting to peel in a couple of places. All in all it wasn't too bad.
Misswim - I'm so sorry you and your family are going through this. If anyone can give your brother in law some hope, it's you.
-
hi all, I am extremely exhausted, did a breast cancer retreat this past weekend that wore me out, but LOVED it. Just got home from Gilda's Club, have to wake up at 7am to be at the volunteer training for Hosparus that I am starting soon, so off to bed in a sec!!!J-Bug, that is awesome news, I am so glad you are doing ok and they found nothing in the lymph nodes, woooooooohooooooooo!! Been thinking of you!kk11, Happy Bday to you! xoxomisswim, been thinking a lot about you too, hope you are doing ok, you have really been given some trying times and being such a survivor, you will get through, although I know it's not easy at all, I am so sorry you are dealing with so much.PhillyBird, I am feeling pretty good, just accumulative mouth sores, some bone pain and definite tiredness...but it's nothing compared to the docetaxel! Thanks so much for askingshinypop, I am on taxol #6 Wednesday and already have some numbness, pain, tingling in my hands and feet that doesn't go away, I sure hope it does after I'm done with it all. I hear some say it fades away, some say it never goes away completely....lets hope you and I get rid of the crap completely LOLhi to everyone else,
very draining last week or so for me and even more on my plate coming up, I am thinking of everyone!
xoxoxo -
Hello to everyone. I finish Taxol this week and will start rads pretty soon. Hope my doc doesn't make me wait too long. I just want this over with. My foot numbness has reduced but not gone away completely. Weird.
Critters are doing better, just have to keep them out of trouble.
Have a great week all!
-
hi shinypop, congrats on finishing this week! Awesome
After tomorrow I will have 3 left!
-
Khs-skin did really well, just peeled a bit under the boob but other than that pretty uneventful. The nurse did say that it will continue to "cook" all week and to not be surprised to have a fatigue off and on all month. She also said that with Taxotere in can last up to 60 days in your body and that can settle in our hands and feet. That Damn stuff backdoored me! I had no problems then bam! it snuck in. So all of the foot and hands stuff is a form of neropathy.
I did call and have a prescription of the tamoxifen waiting, better to be prepared I think. A friend asked me what next? I told her that its kind of scary how they just drop you off at the bus stop, I think we all have to be proactive in our future health and push for all the things we think we need. Only we know our bodies and we shouldn't be scared to say it and if we have to SCREAM it so we get the health care we need. Hugs to you all
jbug-my dental hygienist was DS 1 week after me, 37, with a 9cm, I know scary. It wasn't 9cm when she found it but by the time they got a picture etc it had grown. She wanted to have kids so the had to rush her in for egg harvest, then AC right away, she is just finishing taxol and then will have surgery. I've told her about you're journey and it made her feel some ease. See you've touched another women who doesn't even know your name
cheers to all
-
Hi everyone---Just had to share that all my treatments are done. Feel like I crossed a finish line today after a long marathon. Thinking about the rest of you who will be done with treatment soon. It does end and the feeling of relief is hard to describe. No more doctor visits for at least six weeks. Yay!!!
-
I just wanted to write a quick update. Surgery was one week ago today. I got out of the house for the first time today to see the surgeon. The pathology came back with good news. There was no cancer found in the lymph nodes or the left breast. The only surprise was that what they had thought was one large tumor, turned out to be three. I think that that news is as good as it can be for the situation.
I am still very sore and will have drains in for two more weeks, but am feeling much better than last Wednesday. -
so glad to hear from you jbug and great news! Thinking of you. It does get better every day.
-
khs113- congrats to you, hope you enjoy the next several weeks with no Dr appts.
J-Bug glad to hear you are doing better.
I guess I put on a good front... the other day my girlfriend was telling me how proud she is of me going through this battle and still giving all my energy to our Cub Scouts. Anyhow during the conversation she asked how I feel when I have to walk into the oncologist office, do I just turn around and run? I had to say no I actually don't mind going to get my chemo (have no choice) and I thinks it's because I really like all the staff there, they are wonderful even the Doc. He really treats me like a person and not another patient.
So next Monday 11/21 is my last poison day, that's if my DH keeps his "bug" to himself. I can't wait.
-
Saw our ill family member yesterday. It is so sad and not a good situation. He is so very sick. Please keep him in your prayers-he needs them.
-
Hi ladies. Sorry I haven't been around. Now that I'm feeling good, trying to resume "normal" life has been getting a bit overwhelming. You know, wanting to catch up on everything I've missed for the last five months.
J-bug--good news on the nodes! Maybe the three tumors are the reason for all the measuring discrepancies. Hope your recovery moves along quickly.
Dexxy & khs...congrats on finishing rads! Good to hear your skin hasn't suffered too much from it. My nurse said they don't give any sort if cream unless needed. We'll see how that goes.
Kk--happy belated birthday!
Rabbit--sorry you have to keep plugging along while so many are done.Hope tx went well yesterday. I will be very excited for you in just a few weeks!
Shiny & Cathy--congrats on finishing chemo!!! Life gets so much better after chemo.
Philly--keep plugging along with those rads, as am I.
I started rads on Monday. Obviously a piece of cake compared to chemo. I am now 4 weeks PFC today. Yippee!! I am feeling quite good...fairly good energy level, just not a lot of stamina yet. I'm starting to add in little bits of running into my walking time. We'll get there. Had an interview last week for the Livestrong program at the Y. Should hear soon on that. Still have some feet neuropathy but it's gradually improving.
Getting back into my normal routine has been more emotionally and mentally taxing than anything. Will elaborate but need to run. Taking the kids to a Frog and Toad play this morning. Should be fun. -
HAPPY DANCE!!! No more chemo. Just got a letter from the doc that was supposed to be my rads person and she's leaving the hospital so I need to meet the new guy. All is well since I didn't actually get to know her very well. HAPPY DANCE!!!
-
happy dance with you shinypop!!! Yay!!!
-
Good morning and good happy dancing for you. Rads will be a breeze.
-
Yooper-order some Calendula cream made by boiron. I purchased it on amazon. I used this 3 times a day and I swear it saved my skin. Trust me, its better to be prevent then to have to suffer later
-
khs113 congrats
I have 19 days to go!!
J-Bug, I agree with yooper, I think having 3 tumors could be why there were so many discrepancies with size. And congrats on the pathology report!
Cathy_C best of luck Monday!
shinypop, congats again, I can't wait to say I'm done! I'm doing a happy dance and I still have 19 days to go LOL
misswim, you have taken on so much and I am praying for your family during this rough time.
yooper, I am doing pretty good thanks, the taxol is very accumulative with me, I now have mouth sores, not terrible but they get worse and worse each week. The tiredness is worse as well....I keep saying 19 days and it seems like it's not that far but then at the rate I'm going, I could be pretty yucky if the SEs keep accumulating like this! So glad you are getting on with the "normal life", I bet it feels weird after all this time!?
dexxy, I am going to order calendula cream for myself once I know for sure I will be doing rads. I get my last MRI Dec 15th and see the surgeon on the 20th to see if and how much the tumor shrunk and if I get a lumpectomy or mastectomy. The waiting game again......
something pretty cool, my friend interviewed on the Cincinnati Fox news channel this morning
http://www.fox19.com/category/195974/video-landing-page?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=6467855#.TscBsO0ukrs.emailxoxoxo to everyone, thinking of us all
