Ginger, I had a can can slip, a white one, with half of the top layer a sort of crackling taffeta.....think it was called paper taffeta. I loved that slip, and wore and wore it, showing it off flouncing about !! Then I went on to a pair of bright red jeans, the first to wear that colour in our village. Next it was  green flourescent sox. Didn't we think we were the bees knees then ?

I started making my own clothes when I was about 14-15, weird and wonderful objects came from  my sewing machine ...I used to love rock 'n' roll skirts and got one or two of my friends have me make for them.....but I hadn't much time in those days ( do things ever change ) and only had time to churn out one for myself for the weekly hop....I seem to remember I went off shopping for fabric on a Saturday afternoon, and had something new to put on by the following Friday night. But, I never went out in pyjamas ! I seem to remember earlier this year one of our big supermarkets asked customers coming to the allnight openings NOT to come in their pj's....not appropriate.

Lisa, those roses are absolutely lovely. All here are cut down for the winter. Do roses repeat flower in your climate, or are they seasonal ? I love roses.

Had a very quiet girly day here today. Long soak in a tub of bubbles, face pack, body scrub, moisturiser. Hair wash, deep conditioner, blow dry. Manicure and pedicure, new nail varnish applied. At last, after many years I have recently found a brand of nail polish that will STAY put for about a week...such a godsend to me, I hate to see chipped varnish....and I have had a job that's been very rough on my hands for years and years....and I absolutely love nail polish.  Aiming for an early night tonight...with nice clean sheets on my bed !

I am aiming to go to the theatre tomorrow night, with DD. The Queen musical 'We will Rock You'   is on. It's been showing in London 2-3 years now, and this is it's one and only trip out of London. It's getting rave reviews, and I love Queen...so DD is busy organising tickets for us. There is a fair bit of audience participation, clapping and swaying, don't know if I'll be up for that, but I'll try !!!! Probably get carted out in an ambulance, but who cares !! Just got to persuade G/son to stay over here, don't like leaving the place on it's own, very rarely go out on a night.

    Isabella.

Thought you might like a couple of my roses that are in the garden. This is an unnamed white and is evidently very old.

This is Josephine Bruce which is growing against the shed. The roses are great this year and I have lilac out as well.

have a BALL at the concert, Isabella: i Love, loved queen.. i got sentimental hearing about high school clothes, and dances.. i had to be at every sat. dance.. wish i had stayed with the old beau of those days; could've avoided my 1st.. but then, would've missed Mur...Funny, we always wonder what could've been.. or at least, i do!

WHAT  brand of varnish can you keep on, as busy as you are??? id like to try it.. i never can keep it from chipping...

Allyson, th Josephine Bruce is the darkest red i've  ever seen.. and yes, isabella; if i deadhead my roses, they continue to bloom, even in the winter, if its not too cold.. had a few bllom in Jan last yr, but then, too cold...

Except the "wood" roses; we call them climbing roses here.. don't know if they're considered real roses, or not.. they go all yr. if i cover thrm in winter.. i also love them.. tried looking for your canary this year. come spring,, i'll send for one.. Yellow roses are a traditon in our family... ...3jays

. . sigh. . no beautful roses here, all done for another year.  We are gearing up for snow and cold weather and it is right around the corner. I find the days gray and depressing at times, but that is life, the seasons keep right on changing and we do too, right along with the time  Have a great day, all

Will take some more pictures today. Wish I knew the name of the white rose. It has the most delicate pink edged bud then turns into a beautifully as it slightly opens, however the next day it is big and blousey, it is beautiful. Has a slight scent unlike the red one which has a really heady perfume. 3Jays I have a couple of yellow roses so will take pictures. Now this is a very different rose, an old fashioned one. In a few days  the whole bush will be covered.

Barbara what are you going to do about that job, its not good for you to be under such stress.

I must go as the carpenters have arrived. We are having our large bay window repaired, this house is old by NZ standards, 124 years and its a wooden villa so need a lot of upkeep.

    Big hugs to all.

I love the flowers!  Last year we had a couple roses here in November. They are right by the living room windows and behind some big spring flowering shrubs Araleas and rhododendrums,  that hide them from the deer. This year I think they were not happy with the TWO weeks of summer we had.

Roses seem to do much better here in the Pacific Northwest than they do in Illinois. I think our climate is neared to Englands here and generally the roses are happier here. I do miss my wild and bold annuals here such as, chemo brain again, I can't remember the name of any of them at this moment. You know what I mean though, I know you do!

Did I tell you all that my Dr has suggested I stop Anastrozole, generic Arimidex for amonth to see what happens with the side effects. I think itis also adding to my chemo brain and that is scary. I am afraid to stop it but here I am 6 months after starting and I am getting more andmore SE's. I am gpoing to concentrate on the beautiful flowers and try to put thisout of my mind for awile.

3jays...the rose you want is Canary Bird...it's lovely...BUT it flowers once, and once only ..but well worth it. The nail polish I have started to use is Opi...I THINK it's Canadian, but I could be wrong ! It is 3 times as expensive as the one I usually get, L'oreal, but lasts and lasts. BUT, and it is a BIG but, it's a real pig to remove. The normal remover I get is £1, but the Opi remover is £8, but it's the only one that shifts it. You can buy on eBay a bit cheaper than the store price. I treated myself to a new lipstick from Dior this week, another expensive buy....but again just the colour I was after, so I NEVER consider things expensive if they work !!!! I have to admit I have trouble walking past the make up counters still, nearly as bad as I was when I was younger !

Not much going on here today. GDs brought their puppies over for their shots...1 GD taking it in her stride, ditsy GD seems to wonder how she can feed her puppy, yet not have it poop at all !

My newest Alsation seems to be calming down, eating again, and has stopped howling. I too would like to know how to feed her without the poops ...they are massive piles, so used to dainty offerings from my little dogs, looks like a cow has walked by. Using a large amount of paper towels to shift it all. Had to nip off to the cheapo shop to get a big box of cheapo paper towels ! Gave her a massive juicy bone today, she has been my best friend since ! I have had 2 people on making her an outside kennel, about 10 yards from my back door, so easy for me to get to to let her in and out. Building her a bed under a flight of steps, with heater, insulating it, and concreting her a large run. Concrete should be dry for her to move tomorrow, then the poops won't be so bad to shift !! She is way, way too big for me to have in the house, and if she's going to be running around the farm I don't WANT her coming in covered in mud. She has lost her worried look, and scruffiness, looks all fluffy again, and has been quite happy just padding around the farmyard watching her kennel being constructed, and generally getting in everyones way. Peace, at last, she was very hard work for the first 4 days.

I am happy your new dog is settling in. My Standard Poodle puppy is 6 months old now and he howls pitifully when he is separated from us. He is getting so huge he can lay his head down on my bathroom countertop! He also jumps amazingly high.   I will need to find out how to get photos up here again. I knew once but I forgot!

The embroidery I am currently learning is machine embroidery.  I do know a bit of hand embroidery but I have become lazy about itthese days.

3jays, as we age we ALWAYS look better with lighter hair. It's softer on our faces and if our hair is thinner, our scalp colour isn't so obvious. God really did do us a favour to have our hair go gray. You all must have seen a woman of about 90 with long black hair who looks like a witch. You probably saw her in Walmart!!

Why did you delete it LC? That was funny and I was thinking about my SiL (who is wonderful) who has a head of black hair in her 70s.

Talking about hair colour, think I have found what mine is. I haven't had it colored this time and other than some grey highlights it is a really soft strawberry blonde and darker at the back. Interesting.

    Must go and get dressed.

    Have a great weekend.

Thanks Aly, the conversation just stopped, so I figured I'd stepped in it again...

I have wondered about lightening or streaking my hair for the "softer" effect, but I don't do chemicals anymore... have considered lemon juice & sunshine ?? I could use some softening....

Good morning Ladies,    I am fine, just have not had much to say for awhile.  My friend Cyndi's memorial service was on Wed. and was really nice....pictures of her life everywhere.  I enjoyed seeing pics of her with hair and having fun times.   I have never seen so many people at a funeral home.....had to stand in line for 45 mins to get the the family.

I am not going back a page because I will lose my post, so will just comment on this page.   Ah ha, there is that rose I was talking about on another thread, Alyson....the red one.   And Lisa, your flower pics are beautiful as all your pictures are.

Ginger put you pics in photobucket, open your post on BCO, downsize it with the - in the right corner, then click on pic you want in your photobucket gallery, click copy, go back to BCO and copy....you have to OK that little allow access message and then your pic will be there....Remember?   I want to see pics of that big poodle.  Glad your new dog has settled down, Isabella and am sure she has realized she has a very nice new home with you.

You all know how I feel about fake looking dyed hair.....some people can pull it off, but if you have a face full of wrinkles and lines, forget it....and when those white roots show!  Forget it.  I now have the opposite, black roots although I have found that once the hair has grown a little bit it blends in with the white that did not fall out and I am going back to my silver gray...that's a good thing.   I had Tammy take a picture of my hair yesterday at work....you can't really see how dark the roots are because of the flash, but take my word for it, they are.

I cannot wear any kind of nail polish....it makes my nails peel for some reason.  It's too bad I can't because my nails are like a tree....they show all the different chemos I have been on like the rings a tree gets...there is a red portion and a yellow section and down near the cuticle, they actually look like a normal nail.

Still not doing any treatments, but the other onco I saw here did make some suggestions....weekly adriamycin or weekly carboplatin/taxotere.....do not like either of those and think maybe the Ixempra my regular onco was leaning toward might be better.....Dr.at MDA said something about a higher dose of Xeloda since I was on a low one when I took it, but other docs did not go for that one.   So I am doing nothing and actually like it that way.  I want to get through the holidays and want to feel good for them (and fortunately I do) because I have a lot of big plans.....am going to finish up the bathroom and sewing room at my Dad's right after Thanksgiving and then the house will be ready for the party we are having there Dec.3.  Then I have to figure out when I am going to have my parties here.  I also want to have a MRI done on my head to see what is going on with my scalp mets (didn't mention them in the bone scan) and want to find out if my CA 27/29 is in the 7,000s yet before starting anything.  They can do anything they want to IF they feel it will work after I get done with Xmas......will give me something to look forward to in 2012 ( she said with a  satirical smile on her lips).  Too bad there are no guarantees with treatments.

I am actually starting to make a little headway here with picking things up....the thought of how fast Xmas is coming has lit a fire under me.   Now I ask you, wasn't that smart of me, leaving the Xmas tree up?

I don't recall having a cancan slip.....my conservative Mama must have thought it too wild or something.....I remember begging for a garter belt when I first wanted to wear hose and then shaving my legs was a big no no, but my friend and I did it anyway.  Ah, sweet youth.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

I had a poodle skirt, but without the cancan slip. I LOVED my felt poodle!!!! But, then when I had to wear my sisters hand-me-down a year to two later, the poodle was looking mighty aged!

Marybe your hair looks wonderful!! I thought you were having a thinning problem? Is it resolved or am I thinking of someone else?

It's Saturday afternoon here....3.30...and I have been having a lazy day. Had DD here this morning...we managed to get a decent long chat without anyone else turning up....it was nice to have her to myself without assorted G/children milling round chattering. There are sometimes things that I just want to say to her, but always have to modify what I really need to say, as G/daughters all start butting in !!!  DD had been woken up at 5 am by police. Her 2 pigs had got out and were running riot thru' the village ! Apparently they'd been out since 1am, and no-one knew where DDs new house was, so she'd been hard to locate. The pigs ( that were bought last Christmas as miniature pigs !!!) are now massive. Someone who was helping to round them up had taken a video of them running wild, and put it on Youtube !!  DD said she was very shocked to open her bedroom window and see police there, 2 of her 3 boys were out for the night, and she was very shaken. Mind, one of the boys is only 14 (this week) so should never have been out all night, but kept my thoughts to myself as she was really upset.

This afternoon I have just been doing absolutely nothing.... but I always feel so guilty when I just sit about. I had a late breakfast with DD, then just put my feet up and dozed until now. I find it very hard to switch off and do nothing at all....even if its just reading the paper, I HAVE to be doing !! Anyone else like this ?? I now have 3 daily papers to get thru' this evening...not a good night to watch TV , and I love my papers.

Ditsy G/daughter ( well, G/sons GF....I always look on her as a GDau ) is having a hard time with her puppy. She has only had it 4 days, and wrote on FB last night that she definitely will not be having children now, after having to look after a puppy !!!!!!!  Other G/dau is just taking the puppy in her stride, and it's no bother at all to her ! This is just how I thought it would pan out !

I'm planning a bigish shop on the internet tomorrow, I need to mop up my Christmas presents. Have about half of them organised, but don't think I will have the strength to get round the busy shops this next week or two....easier to listen out for the postman than to brave the Christmas crowds. Quizzed DD today and got a few ideas as to what her children want...one boy car mad, one boy motorbike mad, and the last one likes pc games. Little GD, she will be 3 just after Christmas, I have a childs Kareoke machine and an armchair for....I shall just buy her loads of girly clothes as well.

Right , it's just starting to get dark here, so I am going to lock up the gates, let my guard dogs out,  and lock myself in for the night. I THINK I could be having Gdaughter for the night a bit later on. DD is hinting she wants to go out and having trouble finding a babysitter. I said I would do it if she was stuck. I hope she IS stuck, as I love to have G/daug.....company for me as well.

    Isabella.

Hope everyone's having a lazy Saturday night!  Oh Barbara, I feel for you about your job.  I really had what many would consider a cushy job, working for the state for almost 34 years, and our division's small staff worked out of our homes on non-travel days  But, it was a very high-stress job and I was always in turmoil, especially because I never went "home from work".  The work was always here and I spent countless late nights and weekends working. Definitely worth it all now, since I was able to retire prior to turning 60 due to time served, but don't think I'd take the same career path again.  Hope you find something else very soon!

About hair color, Marybe, yours looks beautiful!  I (rather the hairdresser) color mine but my real hair color is white and I just don't know how to grow it out without it being such a contrast to the colored area.  If it was a pretty gray I'd have already stopped the color because it's expensive and a pain to do.

Isabella, I'm also doing as much online shopping this year as possible.  Ordered DH a book on fishing at the Outer Banks which he'll like, and also ordered some books for a dear friend and my GS.

Went to the Southern Christmas Show yesterday with some friends and had a good time.  Didn't buy much, but did get a couple of gift items there.  It never really changes.  I hadn't been in several years and there wasn't anything different about it, but it was great to get out with the girls.

Hope we all have a good rest of the weekend!

    Kathy

I hope no one thinks I was singling them out on the hair coloring....that is as as individual a choice as a mastectomy vs lumpectomy, chemo vs alternative......see, these threads are teaching me something.  I colored my hair for a long time, mostly frosting and highlighting and when I started getting gray the gray just blended in with the highlights so it was pretty easy for me to let it go natural.  I had a lot of gray, but it was not until it fell out with chemo that when it came back in, I was completely gray and I was amazed at all the compliments I got on it so I guess I was just fortunate it came in a nice gray. And now it's going White!!  My mother never let her hair go natural....she always said it was mousy and always had her hair colored or frosted....she was the generation who did not do their own hair(she would go to the beauty shop at our local dept store once a week....now I look back on that and think how could you only wash your hair once a week, but that is how they used to do it) .me, I was the Nice & Easy, Clairol, Summer Blond, Frost & Tip generation and was always doing something to my hair. So Kathy, you just keep on coloring your hair if you like it that way.....I just got sick of messing with mine.

Isabella, I like you feel like I always need to be doing something....but every so often I will spend a day in bed doing nothing, but watching tv and reading and it usually feels good.  Anyone taking bets that you will end up with grandson's girlfriend's dog?  I have never shopped on line other than ebay for items I can't find in a store and that has not been often...but after getting so worn after hours in the stores this afternoon, it is sounding better all the time.....my back just can't take much standing and looking at things.  I don't have a lot of Xmas shopping to do....know the few things my Dad needs and have already taken care of those.....I will have to find something for Tim and that won't be easy....but most of my friends and I no longer exchange gifts, we go out to eat or go to a show instead.  I want to take my one friend to see Billy Elliott which is coming in Feb since we did not get to see that one and wanted to when we went to NY and then my sister, I will send gift cards since postage has gotten so high.  My nieces I think I will just forget this year since neither one has even said thankyou for anything and they are grownup now and should know to do that....especially to their grandfather because it hurts him.

Speaking of going to a show or play ....Isabella, How was Queen?

Well, guess I will go back to bed now.

hi, actually, my sleep pattern is even crazier than usual; with this infection.. its really kicking my butt. i've been faithful with the anti bs, and probiotics, so am hopeful i'll feel better soon...

if i had the pretty white, you have, marybe; id keep it also.. the texture is what i had pre bc.. now, with it all, and the hyoo, i have little, baby srtrands.. gotta find the camera we misplaced, got my haircut.. i like it ok, but we're doing it in stages, i want to make SURE its growing on top, bf i cut it more. i want to "fit it in the back..we'll see! I finally got rid of the only real hair, growing in the ponytIail in the back, and, ive ordered a cute wig online. still waiting for it. i hope i'l get it by thanksgiving.

Im taking christmas the easy way this year.. my older son doesn't like "cheap" stuff, so i can't afford anything he'd want.. so he and ny DIL get $$ then they can add to it, and get something they like.. Gkids get a little $$ (to make their dad happy; and they love love the toys from walgreens, the dogs that sing, etc.. we have gotten a few already.. I don't know about #2 Jay, haven't seen him for 2 yrs for christmas. left check for him every year at his bros; but he refuses to take it. and #3 is in a 1/2 way house, and really does need the $$... so, that's out of the way..

I actually HAVE found some things Mur wanted, 'Kitchy" but his choice, and they're wrapped already; so im in good shape.. there's not much $$ to go around.. too many copays latelylol and with one car totalled, and one needing major fixes, thats that!!!

we're looking for a car with the $$ we got for the totalled car; its not a lot, and im not touching it for anything else, ..

Im sorry i missed your post, Kathy.. when the threads go Dead, its just a good weekend for everyone, usually!!!

glad to see Marle gal show up, missed you. i also keep you all in my daily prayers, and thoughts.. a pocket in my heart, especially for my "bco' gals....3jays
