Hello Everyone!  I've missed you all!

We were delayed in Charlotte last night and missed our flight.  arghh.  We had to spend the night at a hotel and catch a flight home this morning.

My cousin is very sick.  She doesn't have much time left.  She wanted my sis to take her dog.  So sis said she would.  We bought a carry-on tote for the little dog and traveled for two days and three separate flights with a little wire-haired weiner dog.  His name is Diego.  I love that little dog.  The problem is my sis' two dogs are beating up on him.

Anyway .. it was a long exhausting trip.  My job was to get my cousin's meds straightened out and reorder what she needed through hospice.  It was a daunting task, as there were so many meds .. some were oral pills, some liquid and some injections .. also had to learn how to refill the morphine syringes.  She isn't able to self-medicate so someone needs to be with her to administer them four times a day.  Thankfully, her sister arrived Saturday night and I was able to teach her about all the meds before I left.

It was wonderful though to be with my sis and my two cousins.  We laughed and cried together.

Feels good to be home though!

    hugs to all,

    Bren

Feeling happier tonight - went shopping and bought some new pants to wear to work - also bought some books online - cheered me up no end :)

Been reading about Aromasin vs Arimidex - some good info here on BCO - seems like Aromasin is less likely to cause osteoporosis, high cholestorol and some other stuff but they are equally effective. Also read that if you do have joint pain and lots of hot flushes, you are less likely to have a recurrence - good news. I will never complain again!!! except for the headache I have at the moment and the little sleep I had last night - going off to try to get a bit more tonight.

    See you all tomorrow girls!!

Bren - so sad for your cousin, your family. Good you got to see her, and help her. Hoping for a pain free transition for her - so, so difficult.

Susie- I still think there is quite a difference of opinion on whether the SE's mean anything - not what my docs at Dana Farber have told me.  Haven't read the BCO posting.  Also, the SE's seem to cycle, have them sometimes, other times not - each person reponds so differently.

Only "bad" thing I've been told by friends on Aromasin - hair loss.  Much more than on the other 2 AI's.  Don't know from personal experience - I'm on the A Team.  So grateful we do have these medications to turn to....

Thanks gals for all your support.  I sure could use it.

I'm just exhausted today.  But I'm going outside to work on getting up some of the leaves.  That will make me feel better.

    love to all,

    Bren

You know Bren when I used to live in SC that was what kept me from worrying about stuff - the garden and the leaves and the trees - now that I am in a high rise apartment I miss the stress relief so much - dog walking works to some extent but Munchkin is getting old and gets pretty snarky when roused from her day long nap to go for yet another walk!

Sunflowers - thanks for the heads up about hair loss - I'll be watching for that one. I still have my Arimidex script, so can switch back if need be. I was quite pleased to find the studies on this site as I had been looking for one that compared Arimidex to Aromasin.

We've decided not to go and visit DH's Step mother this weekend - we will go next weekend. The guy we stayed with in Wales is coming to stay with us tonight on his way home from visiting with his Mum up north - the 90 year old lady whose party we went to. He only called yesterday, so I had to rush around and clean the upstairs bathroom and tidy up the spare bed. One good thing is we will have to go out for dinner as I don't have enough food to cater for him - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it :)

I got sent home from work! I worked an hour yesterday and was in the bathroom three times and then I decided I really should go home. I was going in today to set up for a lecture my boss was doing and when I got there I was told to go home, my coworkers had it under control. And I was told to please not spread my germs. It's okay. I feel like crap but nobody has ever told me to go home before. I have worked when I was a lot sicker than I am today so go figure.

Rosemary -- More and more employers are sending employees home these days if they are exhibiting signs of sickness -- for the safety of the other employees.  Thank goodness!

Settling in for a dark and stormy night here in the Seattle area. I hope we don't lose power.

Bren-I'm so glad you got to see your cousin and help out with so many important things.

Rosemary-I hope you're feeling better soon. I feel like a ticking germ bomb-so many of my students are sick these days, and still coming to school so they can share their germs. I, too, don't stay home as much as I probably should when I'm sick. I have to realize that I am not irreplaceable-they can do without me at times!

Wondering how you are, Blue, after your fall the other day.....

    Wednesday night jollies:

A nurse was on duty in the Emergency Room when a young woman with purple hair styled into a punk rocker Mohawk, sporting a variety
of tattoos, and wearing strange clothing, entered .. . . It was quickly determined that the patient had acute appendicitis, so she was
scheduled for immediate surgery... When she was
completely disrobed on the operating table, the staff noticed that her pubic hair had
been dyed green and above it there was a
     tattoo that read . . . ' Keep off the grass. '

Once the surgery was completed, the surgeon
wrote a short note on the patient's dressing, which said

    ' Sorry . . . had to mow the lawn. '

I noticed that when I retired, no one said "thank you for almost never taking a sick day in your 30+ years of teaching". Not one. In retrospect, I could have and the school would have continued apace.

(I should point out, though, that I got my first BC after retiring or things might have been different.)

Thanks Mary, I really hate it but view it as my penance until 2016. OMG I can't even fathom it. Hiding my head and drinking heavily.

    Why 2016, Barb?

Lassie11-during my breast cancer treatment, I took a few days at the beginning of winter break, during which I had my lumpectomy, and then I took an hour off at the end of each of 33 days for my radiation treatment. I took a couple of days off during rads, due to some pretty severe burns. I should have taken more time. I had the sick leave time to take. I don't know why I didn't take more. I treat administration with more respect than they ever treat me.

Wow! Mary -  I can't imagine how you managed all that.  Isn't it remarkable how we try to make it easier for everyone else by making it hard on ourselves?

Yes, and having district administration stall negotiations for my employee group (support staff-I'm a paraeducator) for over 6 months has made me realize that it is just not worth it for me to go into work sick. I was out on a street corner, waving a sign to support the levy, at 6 o'clock in the morning during my cancer treatment because the district said our jobs were on the line if the levy didn't pass.  The levy passed, and they still tried to cut our hours and benefits. I will never again put my own health in jeopardy for people who could give a rat's ass about me.

Don't get me wrong-I love the people I directly work with, and I really love my students. Administration? Not so much.

One of my friends said something very profound to me when I was talking about how much I had loved the job I left 11 years ago. She said, "You can love your job, but it will never love you back."

    Oh yeah. Bingo!
