Princess,
Thanks for your support. I realize that I am in the 4% of breast cancer patients that choose 100% alternative care and as I said above to evebarry, I give myself permission to change my course at any time. I can be both committed to my choices and lonely in this 4%. Breast cancer sister support is critical for all of us. I am really interested to hear what Alternative treatments others are doing--supplements, therapies, counseling, meditation, etc.

evebarry: I know you asked Cindy that question about"what would you do", but somehow I feel compelled to answer, so for what it's worth, I think the blmx somehow holds the key to avoiding ongoing recurrances with bc. You would prefer not to do chemo or radiation which have their own lethal SE's, yet you have to come up with a plan to make it difficult for these cancers to continue to come up in your system. The breast is where they like to hang out, so removing that temptation might be the answer, along with good healthy lifestyle and diet changes. The other option would be the low dose chemo (IPT) therapy, but since it is not covered by insurance, the cost might be prohibitive. I don't remember if you've had this done, but before undergoing any surgery to the breast, it might be wise to have a body or thermographic scan to make sure there is no cancer anywhere else in your system. If there is, surgery might not be the best option to take.
If my dx turns out to be cancer, I will definitely consider doing that before any further surgery takes place.
-
Princess,
Thank you so much. I love that you call meditation and prayer Internal Exercise. I'm going to add that my thought process. I have never heard of N-Acetyl-Cysteine, so I will be looking that up. I'm not doing any herbal teas but actually do juice fresh burdock root which is available from my health food store. I wish I could say no caffeine, but I have not yet managed to completely give up coffee. Before Dr Connealy, I was doing a lot of fruit smoothies and she said--NO FRUIT Period. I had to negotiate and make my case for the awesome nutrition of fruit. She finally relented and said Okay to berries. Sometimes I still have other fruits but have significantly reduced the amount and I only have them whole in smoothies or eat them. I no longer juice any fruit and use only carrots to sweeten the green juice. I soak and then dehydrate my nuts which brings the crunch back and have recently begun soaking and fermenting my grains per the "Nourishing Traditions" cookbook by Sally Fallon, head of the Westin Price organization. In the summer I was eating very few grains mostly juice, smoothies and salads. As the weather got cooler I began to want more warm foods and added in more cooked soups and fermented grains. The grains are not hard to do but requires some forethought in planning the day ahead. I'm 95% vegan so almost no dairy or meat, but I try to leave room in my regimen for living--going out to dinner with friends, etc. I also eat a lot of goji berries and for additional protein hemp seeds, bee pollen and chia seeds. Raw Cacao powder and nibs for it's high antioxidents and Fermented Miso in my smoothies or salad dressing.
Outside of diet I tested positive for EMF sensitivity and geopathic stress. I purchsed EMF protection necklaces for myself and my daughter and EMF cell phone tabs for the entire family's cell phones. I experienced a noticable difference. I also purchased a "device" that goes under my bed to neutralize geopathic stress which Dr Connealy said "was a real thing" I did not notice any difference with that. Another thing that produced a strong noticable differnce was purchasing an Earthing sheet for my bed. It is woven with miles of silver thread and plugs into the ground portion of the electrical outlet thus utilizing the house ground. This is based on the theory of grounding to the earth's energy. We can all do this for free by putting our bare feet on grass or sand for two hours per day. (who has time) The Osteopath that does the "Recall Healing" that I mentioned above, (referred by Dr. Connealy) told me over the phone that sometimes when patients don't respond to treatment it is because of this lack of grounding. I tried it and it helped tremendously.
Thanks for sharing your regimen. I would like to know more about the breast massages you do.
-
Kaara,
Can you talk more about the whole body scans? Whether or not I have cancer anywhere else in my body is a question that has not yet been answered. Dr. Connealy has recommened an Energy Biofeedback test for me that she believes will answer that question. I am waiting for the test to be scheduled. It is called Electro Accunpuncture according to Voll. It is done on a machine called the Asyra.
-
Cindy: I've not heard of the test you are referring to, which might do the same thing, but the one I mentioned is a thermographic scan that looks at the key areas of your body the same way it looks at the breast. It is heat sensitive to areas that might be growing blood vessels to support cancer cell growth. It would not be an absolute confirmation of the cancer...an MRI or PET scan would be needed to determine that, but it would show suspicious areas that could need further evaluation.
-
Kaara,
Thanks for the info. Lot's of places do breast thermography in my area but I haven't heard of anyone doing full body. I am going to look into it. My Dr is awaiting a new person to join her staff for this other test she recommends, but it is taking a long time and I feel a litlle like I am hanging out on on a limb since it has been 4 months since my last ultrasound and breast thermography.
-
Cindy, I assumed you had a full body thermogram. Most places do both full body and breast.
I'll be doing FOCC for breakfast. Instead of cottage cheese, I'll use kefir. That's something you may want to consider too. The recipe calls for berries. I think your doc will approve.
You're lucky. I can't find fresh burdock. So I bought some supplements. I usually break open the capsules and mix the herb in my green juices.
I never thought to dehydrate my nuts. Good tip.
EMF cell phone tabs are a good idea. I meant to buy some. Thanks for reminding me.
It's important to connect with nature. But, like you said two hours a day ain't happenin'. I'm not sold on the Earthing sheets. But David Wolfe swears by them, (lol) so I may look into that some more.
Here are two videos I use for my lymphatic breast and neck massages. You can find more on youtube. I think everything that I'm doing is helping. The girls look supple and happy.

Kaara, tomorrow is the big day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
-
Princess,
I never would have purchased the Earthing sheet on my own. A friend of mine is a huge David Wolfe follower and she had the sheet for sometime but never mentioned it to anyone. The same day that she brought the sheet to my house for me to try is the day I spoke with the Osteopath and when he asked about my regimen and how I had been feeling. I told him someone who's diet was a good as mine and who was taking all of these supplements should be feeling more energetic and vibrant. That's when he mentioned Earthing and how he has seen so many patients stall due to a lack of grounding and I should try it. Two hours later my friend shows up with hers for me to borrow. That's some serious serendipity. I felt a difference immediately upon having my feet on it. It was like an energy current that I could actually feel run through my legs. My energy improved with 2 nights of sleeping with it. My husband did not feel the tingling but swears that he has slept better since having it.
I will look at the massage videos--thank you. It's so funny that you call your breasts "the girls." My husband calls them that and he just leaned over my shoulders behind me and said that I should tell you all that he regular holds "the girls" and sends them good healing energy!
My meditation card for the day says
"I am choosing to listen to those voices that empower me."

What do you think ladies?

Cindy, cutting out coffee is what helped increase my energy levels. Caffeine interferes with the body's ability to absorb many vitamins and nutrients. It can also inhibit vitamin D receptors, so you may want to wean yourself off ASAP and switch to maybe organic decaf or herbal tea.
Meditating is great. Most people don't realize how important a role it can play in the healing process. If you don't really learn to quiet the mind and listen to your inner spirit, the negative crippling thoughts can easily highjack your mind, encouraging you to listen to the wrong people and make terrible decisions based on fear. My girlfriend uses meditation cards too. She really likes them. I just use scriptures to get my daily messages, strengthen my mind and stay positive.
-
Thanks Princess,
I know about the coffee, I keep telling myself that! I had weaned myself down to 1 cup per week for almost 8 months, but the past couple of weeks has been one cup per day. The raw cacao powder gives the the stimulation boost that I get from coffee, just haven't been making many smoothies since the weather turned cold. Gonna go shopping for some different teas.

DR. BURZYNSKI- CANCER IS SERIOUS BUSINESS
The last guest speaker was Dr. Burzynski. He is one of the pioneers in cancer research, known worldwide for discovering Antineoplastons.
Antineoplaston Therapy targets cancer cells without destroying normal cells.
If you are interested in alternative therapies, you should watch the documentary. It shows what sort of world we live in, where money comes first!

A lot happening here...can't keep up. So much to consider and think about.
Cindy, it's great having you on the bco boards. I mentioned that I would like to keep my breast, but as Kaara said it is probably best I get rid of them. I have wrestled with the idea of a mx for awhile now...it's not an easy decision.
The idea of a thermogram would be nice, but for me right now it's not affordable. I don't like the idea of doing a pet or ct scan. I would consider it for peace of mind. I am hoping the mx is preventive enough, but you never know. This last dx is the only one that has really made me nervous. Sometimes I feel like I'm between a hard place and a rock
Earthing fitted sheets? The first I've heard of it. But, if it has anything to do with metal, I can't get near it. Metal is my kryptonite. I can't wear my wedding ring or a watch without having extreme bone, or nerve pain.
The subject of jucing...a naturalpath I recently saw said to eat raw fruit and yogurt for breakfast...an hour later eat whatever I wanted as long as it wasn't white or sugar. He said to eat fruit. I really have a hard time tolerating diets without a little sugar. I like the idea of adding fruit to a meal or to a smoothie. My gut says fruit is God given, and good for us. I know, sugar feeds cancer. But, like someone said we need good sugar as fuel for our cells. Good sugar is the energy we need to transport vitamins and all else to our cells. You can starve cancer and at the same time starve ourselves. I also was told that our body if it needs to will turn meat into sugar.
I'm not sure just sharing what a doctor said to me. Fruit feels right...at least a little every day. I also feel it's ok to splurge everyonce in awhile so that we don't fall off the wagon...like for Thanksgiving. I would like to think I could eat a guiltfree punkin pie
-
Thought I would share an awesome meditation/guided imagery cd that I received today from New Zealand. I just listened to it in the tub while soaking in my magnesium mineral salts.
It has 2 tracks, one focuses on the psyical aspects of cancer healing and the second track focuses on the emotional aspects of healing cancer. Each track is around 30 minuets. I feel so uplifted.I highly recommend.

evebarry, there is a thread here called " Recurrence after bilat mastectomy" that you may want to check out. I get the sense that these ladies are shocked to find themselves facing cancer again. I think they thought that having a mx was preventative enough.
Also, the overgrowth of candida in your body is craving sugar, not you. Fruit is good for us. However, it's not really normal to have to something sweet with every meal. That's a huge sign that it's time to detox.
Are you juicing veggies every day? Have you thought about doing coffee enemas? In others words what's your strategy and regimen (i.e. supplements, exercise , meditation etc.) ?
And another thing.....Because you have systemic candida, I would reconsider indulging in traditional pumpkin pie. I wouldn't add fuel to the fire. Here's a healthier version.

Hi ladies, I haven't had time to post lately but I've been reading. Cindy, I wish for you to have astounding success with your choice in protocol. I don't blame you a bit for feeling scared. Deciding to choose something different than what the doctor in front of you wants is not easy. Even though I went with mainstream treatments (chemo/surgery/rads/tamoxifen), my local doctors were scaring me to pieces when I decided to travel to the next state for my surgery. Resources are few and far between for those who want something outside standard protocol. Plus, it's important to remember too that the doctors can get in trouble for recommending anything outside standard protocol, so they are limited too.
I think you had a rather lengthy list of what supplements you're taking on the previous page that I can't see now. I don't think it had iodine on there. In the holistic section there's a longstanding thread about iodine supplements that you might want to read. I have a copy of Dr Derry's book on iodine. The dear man needs a better proofreader and editor, but the content of his information is something I found compelling. I'd be glad to let you have my copy if you're interested. Just send me a pm with where to send it. I'd love for you to be successful. Dr Derry believes breast cancer patients are all iodine deficient and that early stage disease can be reversed with correcting the deficiency.

I think only 1 out of 100,000 women in Japan have BC.
"I believe that if the iodine intake of the nations were raised to levels above the saturation point of the thyroid," Dr. Derry writes, "there would be a precipitous drop in the cancer rate of the nation to levels similar to those of Japan. There, rates of breast, prostate and thyroid cancer are among the lowest in the world, and iodine intake is the highest due to consumption of seaweed."David M. Althea,
Thanks for your support. It is much appreciated. I had a nutritional analysis done 2 months ago and have been adding the necessary supplements (and/or changes to diet) to my regimen as much as budget allows. It's strange that I did not test positive for Iodine deficiency despite my low thryroid condition. I discussed Iodine with my Doc and we decided to hold off for now, (due to other supplement priorities and my limited budget,) but I still try to eat seaweed regularly. There were two minerals that I had never even heard of before this nutitional analysis in which I tested extremely deficient. I finally added these to my regimen yesterday--Germanium and Vanadium. Below is some info I gleaned for the web on these two minerals.
From www.curezone.com
Germanium GE 132: An Oxygen Catalyst
In its organic form, each atom of germanium is bonded to three atoms of oxygen, making it an efficient carrier of oxygen. According to Dr. Stephen A. Levine, organic germanium seems to be able to partially substitute for or supplement oxygenation in living tissues. (7) Thus, Ge-132's ability to improve the efficiency of oxygen utilization at the cellular level could be of significant benefit.
Dr. Otto Warburg, Nobel prize-winning cancer researcher, discovered that cancer cells cannot metabolize oxygen properly. (11) Flooding cells with oxygen may retard the growth of cancer cells or even help to return them to normal.
The "boosting" of available oxygen becomes significant when we realize that the underlying cause of many chronic diseases is free-radical damage resulting from insufficient cellular oxygenation. The Ge-132 acts as a carrier, facilitating the movement of oxygen across cellular membranes to get oxygen inside the cell. ! Dr. Asai attributed the effectiveness of organic germanium in combating a variety of diseases to its ability to oxygenate cells. Dr. Asai found that Ge-132 was effective in treating "cancer of the lungs, bladder, larynx and breast, neurosis, asthma, diabetes, hypertension, cardiac insufficiency, inflammation of maxillary sinus, neuralgia, leukemia, softening of the brain, myoma of the uterus and hepatic cirrhosis." (1)
Fron http://www.croh-online.com/article/S1040-8428%2801%2900221-9/abstract
Abstract
Vanadium compounds exert preventive effects against chemical carcinogenesis on animals, by modifying, mainly, various xenobiotic enzymes, inhibiting, thus, carcinogen-derived active metabolites. Studies on various cell lines reveal that vanadium exerts its antitumor effects through inhibition of cellular tyrosine phosphatases and/or activation of tyrosine phosphorylases. Both effects activate signal transduction pathways leading either to apoptosis and/or to activation of tumor suppressor genes. Furthermore, vanadium compounds may induce cell-cycle arrest and/or cytotoxic effects through DNA cleavage and fragmentation and plasma membrane lipoperoxidation. Reactive oxygen species generated by Fenton-like reactions and/or during the intracellular reduction of V(V) to V(IV) by, mainly, NADPH, participate to the majority of the vanadium-induced intracellular events. Vanadium may also exert inhibitory effects on cancer cell metastatic potential through modulation of cellular adhesive molecules, and reverse antineoplastic drug resistance. It also possesses low toxicity that, in combination with the synthesis of new, more potent and better tolerated complexes, may establish vanadium as an effective non-platinum, metal antitumor agent.
Anyone out there know of these minerals or taking these supplements?
-
My multivitamin has both of these minerals, but I know virtually nothing about them. That is really interesting. I had a hair analysis done as well; did you feel like it was a good assessment on your nutritional status? Mine came back with excessive copper, so I took extra Molybdenum, Zinc for about 6 months to see if we could pull levels down. I'm certain that I have copper pipes where I live, so not sure it will do the trick.
-
On another note, a friend who lives in my area told me last night that her mother (who lives in our area) has multiple myeloma. Now, normally I wouldn't think too much of this, except that I had DCIS, another lady down our street had Stage IV breast cancer, my friend has had a few ovarian cysts. I am starting to wonder if we aren't living in a contaminated area. Am I crazy??? We have a creek that runs down behind our house, and I've often wondered if chemicals get dumped in there.
-
Cindy, do you know if Dr. Otto Warburg or Dr. Stephen A. Levine has a specific protocol for taking geranium as a supplement. It sounds like pretty powerful stuff. I'd sooner just get it from food or check with my ND first to confirm how much is safe and effective. It doesn't sound like a supplement one should be on for an extended period of time. See: "Hazard assessment of germanium supplements" www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9237323
-
Princess,
I agree that it always best to get our nutrients from whole food when possible. The best food sources of organic germanium are garlic and mushrooms. However, most of us have long term deficiences in many areas and supplements can allow us to return our bodies to balance quicker. As with any new information, please do your own research, discuss with your doc and listen to your own inner wisdom.
The NCBI warning that you cited is based on germanium dioxide, the INORGANIC form of germanium. GE 132 is the organic form --germanium sesquioxide. I am taking 100 mg daily. Here is some additionl info:
Germanium Sesquioxide
What is it?
Organic Germanium is bis-carboxyethyl germanium sesquioxide, a trace mineral. What does it do?
Germanium is a naturally occurring trace mineral. Most forms of Germanium are toxic but the organic, sesquioxide form is different. It is nontoxic and has a host of beneficial properties. The Germanium story begins with Dr. Kazuhiko Asai, a Japanese scientist who first synthesized it, calling it GE-132, since it was the 132nd compound he tested.
Dr. Asai was intrigued with the high amount of Germanium in coal and reasoned that plants (from which coal is made) must concentrate germanium. He subsequently found out that many healing plants and waters (such as Lourdes) are unusually rich in Germanium. The earth contains roughly 7 PPM of Germanium on the average. By comparison, garlic, for example, contains 750 PPM. Medicinal shelf fungus (mushrooms) have the highest levels.
It is thought that Germanium works by increasing tissue oxygenation. It does this by removing hydrogen atoms which spares oxygen. According to two researchers:
"The many illnesses successfully treated by germanium is so long that it invites skepticism unless one realizes that, by restoring oxygen to the cells, germanium works at a fundamental level common to all disease processes. Therefore germanium sesquioxide can be considered a versatile sustainer of human health and a dramatic enhancer of natural immunity."
The Missing Element - Organic Germanium, David M. Grace, B.S., D.C. and Karen Karvonen, M.F.A.
Germanium normalizes metabolic functions. It shows antitumor, antiviral, tuberculostatic, anticonvulsive, neuroleptic, antihypertensive, antibacterial and other types of activities. Among its potential properties are lowering high cholesterol and blood pressure, as well as combating food allergies, depression, osteoporosis, cancer, infections, arthritis, pain, raynauds syndrome, and constipation.
In a study of 30 post-surgical patients, over a period of weeks Ge-132 restored a variety of deviant blood parameters to their normal ranges. These included: pH, potassium, calcium, chloride, triglycerides, cholesterol, bilirubin, uric acid and blood hemoglobin. For example, the cholesterol levels of these patients dropped from 360 to 260 over the course of a month.
In other animal experiments, rats with normal blood pressure were not affected but rats with high blood pressure returned to normal in 7 to 10 days. Dr. Asai used this substance for angina and myocardial infarction, as well.
Dr. Asai has had success using germanium to treat poisoning from heavy metals such as mercury and cadmium, chemicals such as polychlorinated biphenyls - PCB's, and asphyxiation from carbon monoxide. Germanium is a strong immunostimulant, activating the body's own defenses. Studies in both animals and humans show that it increases gamma interferon, activates macrophages and Natural Killer cells, stimulates immunomodulation activity in the B cell systems. It promotes immune system activity against viruses and tumors.
In another of Dr. Asai's experiments, Germanium substantially prolonged the life expectancy of mice injected with influenza virus. All mice in the control group died within 14 days. 60% of mice treated with Ge-132 survived to day 20.
Dr. Asai said it also was used successfully in treating liver problems such as chronic hepatitis. Eye problems such as cataracts responded swiftly and dramatically, according to the doctor.
Environmental sensitivities may respond to a dose of 50 mg per day. Candida may require 100 mg per day. Germanium is also a strong pain reliever:
"Ge-132 has dramatic analgesic effects which complement its antitumor effects ... It can apparently enhance or substitute for morphine -- reportedly 2-3 grams will eliminate pain of terminal cancer patients within 20 minutes."
[Dr. Parris M. Kidd, Director, Germanium Institute of North America, Germanium-132 (Ge-132): Homeostatic Normalizer and Immunostimulant. A Review of its Preventive Efficacy, International Clinical Nutrition Review, 7:11, 1987] -
Marrianne,
Just to clarify--I did not have the hair analysis. I did a bio-resonance analysis through Dr. Connealy's nutritionist called the LSA-Limbic Stress Assessment done on a ZYTO machine. (FYI Cost $125) This energetically tested my body for:
Physical Stressors: My top 5 in order
Geopathic Stress, Molds , Fungi, Virus, Environmental toxins
Organs, Glands & Systems Stressed My top 5 in order (Not necessarily what you'd expect with BC)
Urinary Tract, Hypothalamus gland, gallbladder, uterus, thyroid
Amino Acid Deficiencies My top 5
Threonine, Valine, Carnitine, Aspartic acid, serine
Mineral Deficiencies My top 5
Vanadium, Sulfer, Germanium, Chromium, potassium
Vitamin Deficiences My top 5
Pyridoxine (B6), Molybdenum, Thromboxane (B2), Vit B5, Vitamin T (Torulitine)
-
Marrianne,
You are not crazy about possible chemicals. Also google geopathic stress for more info. It is caused by underground water and mineral deposits that disrupt the earth's energy. It has a documented link to cancer and/or not responding to treatment.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me jumping in but I have been browsing the Alternative threads and am a little confused by the last two comments on this one. If Cancer can't survive in an Alkaline and oxygen rich environment why is it we associate Vitamin C which is very acidic in connection with Cancer prevention? As for oxygen I thought one of the healthiest things we can do is yogic deep breathing (pranayama) which enriches the blood with oxygen. Am I completely wrong here?
I'm currently researching healthy diet and lifestyle in connection with preventing cancer recurrence because I can't believe that our environment is not the leading cause of cancer. I was diagnosed with DCIS in August (Stage 0, Grade 1-2, no malignancy found, focual comedonecrosis) and I am likely not having radiation therapy as my bs suggested. If they had found malignancy my mind may be open to radiation, but I can't help but think that destroying my breast cells can't be a good thing (let alone my lung and who knows what else they hit).
-
Olivia,
My personal belief is that cancer is caused by a variety of things but environmental toxins do rate high on the list. This also includes toxins that we choose to ingest through our shampoos, body care products, packaged foods, sodas, conventionally grown produce and meat, and other lifestyle choices. Other contributing factors are molds and fungus such as candida, geopathic stress, emf's, heavy metals from mercury filings, and to a small degree genetics. What I think is important is that it is the combination of all these things that tax our immune system. I believe we need to eliminate the toxins we ingest and expose ourselves to, cleanse our colon and liver, detox our body, and stimulate our immune system through diet, exercise, meditation and supplements. We also need to deal with any unhappiness and toxic relationships in our lives as this has a huge impact on our immune function.
The standard off the shelf Vitamin C is ascorbic acid and it does have an acid ph. I take a Pharmacuetical Grade of buffered Vitamin C which is alkaline. Vitamin C works with cancer by scavenging the free radicals in the body, like all antioxidants. I agree with you that deep yogic breathing is one of the healthiest things we can do for ourselves. I have chosen a 100% Alternative treatment for my bc but chose to treat it, (with my doc's guidance) from all sides of the issue.
In addition to the above, I am working on eliminating my tumors with some targeted supplements prescribed by my doc.
Vascustatin-an antiangeogenis made from the the plant bindweed (stops the tumor from creating new blood vessels)
Natura 401-a blend of Chinese herbs targeted to pull the moisture out of the tumors
Panreatic enzymes--destroys the fiberin coating of the cancer cells, which keeps them hidden from the immune system so that all of the other nutrients including Vit C can do their job.
I hope this helps, not sure if I answered your questions.
