Samsue- It was interesting (the cancer care event)...I really enjoyed the toalk by my radiologist (Rob Rutledge) and the pair discussion stuff...liked the qi dong introduction and the yoga bits....found the first meditation useful but the others too long so my mind drifted...and I was not a fan of the 'are thereapy' part...wasnp't in the mood to draw I guess but the 3 minute chats (where one person talks adn the other listens actively for the full 3 minutes without any comments at all) were useful and a good way to discharge emotion!

Right now I'm wanting chocolate in any form....

Hi Ladies I keep forgetting Fridays.... darn!! Oh well I must say I have not lot a stinking lb
this frustrates me to no end. I have cut back on the amount of carb consumption and increased my protein intake. Unfortunately I took a little spill and messed up my back and ankle so exercise has been out of the question for a while. LOL! I guess as we get older we become (or shall I say I become) a clumsy oath. Oh well hopefully this too will pass. I really hate BC meds!! I feel like that is part of my problem with the NO wt. loss. However I must persevere... Winter is now fast approaching so outdoor activities are limited and the treadmill will be my only source of exercise. My daughter and I are both going to try and walk, however there is one limitation, my 2 yr old granddaughter loves to try to get on or lay on while one is walking and she is a bundle of fire. It makes for difficult exercise. Haha!! she is in the terrible 2's no less. Going to forcre myself to start trying to do dreaded situps or something along those lines for the waist. Pray that it helps. My incentive is strong... My niece is getting married next summer and I really don't want to look like a blimp in family pics.
Hugs Renee

Something that has helped me is www.loseit.com
It helps you track your calories in (food) and calories out (exercise, incl things like housework). It's kind of a pain at first, because you have to log every morsel. But it gets easier as you go along, because you learn how to match what you ate against their list of food items, and can also customize your own list from the nutrition info on your food labels.

I've missed two Fridays in a row - was camping the first Friday (cold out but a needed break) and just plain forgot this past Friday. I haven't weighed in - haven't been to the gym at all despite signing up for another year. Tomorrow? Can I hear a cheer - a word of encouragement?
I've been reading a book called Younger Next Year (for Women) and it recommends 45 - 1hr of exercise 6 days a week (4 cardio, 2 weight/strenght) to keep from suffering the effects of aging so much. Healthier for longer, feel better, less pain, less illness overall. Sounds good to me - oh yeah, also cut out the sugar. Yikes! I might, if I get really serious, be able to do the 6 days but the sugar - waah! I'm a sugarholic. My name is Elaine and I'm addicted to sugar.
-
Bookart.... my name is Samsue and I can't go a day without sugar in some form...
Some of the girls and two of the bosses are trying the 17 day diet that's out now. Basically it's eating correctly.... veggies and protein (chicken, fish or turkey) and two fruits a day. Plus a pro-biotic. Sounds kinda like what I've been doing except - this is the big one - I've had chocolate every single day in the form of "healthy" chocolate covered almonds. Hard to give that up.... I already drink the green tea and we count the water here so that's a no brainer.... I want my points!
Maybe we could add a point if we have 4 servings of veggies per day - might help us to eat more of the "good" stuff besides the exercise.
So, 4 servings of veggies = 1 point
Two fruits = 1 point
yada yada...
-
hi Elaine, hip hip hooray and {{hugs}}
I read the Anti-Cancer book and that got me to walking 30 minutes every day, more if I can swing it. I just saw my family doc last week and he said to avoid the white foods: sugar, flour, potatoes & rice. I can give up sugar but flour is my downfall, I love pasta. He also said your body can't tell the difference between fruit juice and soda so instead of drinking a glass of juice you may as well eat a piece of fruit, you'll still get the sugar but will also get the fiber.
Maybe this winter I will start making my own bread again with lovely whole wheat flour.
Samsue, I would support points for daily fruits and veggies.
-
Daily fruits and veggies points would help me, it fits right in with the dietary changes I'm working on.
-
Greetings to all the birdies! Sorry about the MIA, I had a rough month with BMX on Oct. 3, followed by allergic reaction to the preop skin prep with rash from chin to belly, then got wound infections the next week, then infected seromas that had to be drained twice, reaction to antibiotics .... etc etc etc... Needless to say, I did not check in, did not exercise much, did my best to eat well. Lost more weight, but this week has been better. I am getting appetite and energy back, and gradually getting back to usual activities. I am glad to see everyone still checking in, and would fully support the idea of points for eating the 5 fruits/veggies per day.
I should check in on Friday this week if all continues to go well!
-
{{Linda}} OMG October was rough! Glad you got through it, though, and are on the mend!
-
Dear Linda, good lord what a time of it you had, whatever could go wrong did go wrong!! So glad you are feeling better now, may this be the start of good mending. See you on Friday, ((((((((hugs)))))))) to you , Karen
-
Wow, so much catching up to do on this thread. It is GREAT to see everyone here!
Deborye, congrats to your daughter for her engagement. When is the wedding?
Renee, hope your back and ankle are on the mend!
Linda, what a terrible ordeal. I sure hope you are past the worst of it and healing well.
Badger, have you heard of that book by Dr. Davis (from WI)? "Wheat Belly". Very interesting info on how wheat has been genetically altered over the last few decades and isn't as good as they say. He takes patients off of wheat and gets all kinds of good results...even unexpected ones.
Elaine (bookart), That book sounds interesting and full of good advice. The hard part is to get all that exercise in every week. It's a good goal to have!
I gave up sugar (bread, flour, potatoes, any starch basically) in June and have been following a low carb way of eating. The more I research it, the more convinced I am that it is more than a diet, it is my way of eating for life. I found a great lecture online by a doctor that needed to lower his cholesterol (as does my husband). It was quite enlightening...let me know if anyone wants the link.
I'm crossing fingers to get out of the 170s and into the 160s this week. Better go drink my water!
-
Linda so sorry you had such a hard time - Oct wasn't good to you! (((hugs & speedy recovery)))
Zogo I'd like the link and info on the "wheat belly"
Today I had lettuce and beans for my veggies and apple for fruit... also had birthday cake. ARG...
-
I'm off wheat, but would be interested in the link, Zogo. I still eat white rice, white rice flour, potatoes and plenty of sugar. I also noticed that I eat even when I am full - finish my plate, or have to have a bite of sweet even after a full meal, or snack soon after a meal (mindless eating, I call it) I'm trying to be more mindful, even if I go ahead and eat more - I'm at least making note and thinking on it, whereas before I didn't even notice. I did get to the gym yesterday, but couldn't convince myself to go today. Might go tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement, Badger.
-
hey zogo, I have not heard about Dr. Davis but will look into "Wheat Belly." I'm with the others who would like the link to the low-carb diet video. I used to read Dr. Peter Gott's column in the State Journal. He advocated for a no sugar no flour diet and people swore by it. I notice you've been steadily dropping pounds so attawoman, good luck Fri for getting under 170. I finally got under 180 YAY. Now I need to stay here!!!

That's the website. I don't know if I can set it up in a link...you will have to copy and paste it.
It is quite long, but I found it worth the time.

Wow Linda what an October you had!! hope you are getting back to feeling like or at least somewhat like yourself. Geesh!! Allergic reactions are the absolute pits thats almost as bad as a BMX!! or trying to lose wt (trying to make you laugh)
and cheer you up a bit. lol !!! anyway since I last checked in I have had the wonder sinus crud, along with bronchitis. So very sick and my appetite has almost up and left me. I have pretty much had to make myself eat and drink anything at all. I've been a couch potato, had shortness of breath and coughing with major nose bleeds. Just feeling like yuck!! Dieting has been no problem this week. I haven't weighed so I don't know if I've lost any weight, but surely I've dropped a pound or a 2. lol
I hope I don't forget to check in tomorrow, but it's my granddaughter Sidni's 11th b'day party and I have to go help my daughter cook and get ready for the party. So forgive me if I do. I can say without a doubt I haven't drank the water, heck I've not drank much of nothing. yuck nothing has tasted good. Not exercised, no breath to do so.
Maybe next week will be a better week.
The only positive thing that has happened has been I had a job interview today (sick) and it seemed to go well. She did tell me she would be in touch in a few days. That there are a few more interviews (negative), but a positive is I do know the lady that interviewed me. So I am praying for good results. I never know how to read these things. Having been an interviewer myself it is so hard. I have told people what she told me and not call them back, but then I have called them back also. The last job interview I had I had to wait almost 3 wks or so before I found out if I was hired and I had 3 interviews. Such a long treacherous journey. She however will be my only interview.
-
Bookart, I'm right there with you... I can finish my plate and then need something sweet. Mindless eating mindfully for me.
Mimi good luck with the interview.... the crud is going around here too.
