Wondering what to have for dinner tonight?  Why not try Gracie Allen's Classic Roast Beef Recipe?

Take one large roast and one small roast and place them in the oven.

When the small one burns, the large one is done!!!

Linda:  I grew up watching Burns and Allan and I can still hear Gracie's voice - she used to crack me up and that "recipe" brought a smile to my face.  Thanks.

Yay for good news, Susie!!  And good morning, everyone!

Heading south today for a coffee plantation tour.  Remind me to tell you all about the taxi driver who was proud of his swearing-in-English skills.  (COOPS!  Son of a bish!)   :-D

Hope everyone's doing well this beautiful Wednesday morning.

    Great news Susie!

Now off for bloodwork and the dread bone scan. That needs another name. Who would be afraid of the dread lollipops and rainbows? (My apologies to "The Princess Bride").

Is anyone enjoying good weather?  Here in the Great Lakes Basin, it's been cloudy, raining and coolish for a couple of weeks, with wee sunny breaks in between!  We had a week away (on a sunny isle) but thought we'd return to mild, dry weather -- as predicted in the Farmer's Almanac.  Bah!

Enjoyfool -- I'm betting you taught the taxi driver that expression (maybe it should be "sunofabish")!  Hoping you're enjoying some good Colombian coffee and hot Latin American food.  Met any drug lords yet? And is Mom behaving herself?

Susie -- If there's one thing we can ALL identify and empathize with, it's test stress (not to be confused with stress test!).

susie---many congrats.  I've been doing the thyroid biopsy since I was in my early 20s. Hate hate hate the sound effects part.  Usually do fine on the stress level until they give me the necessary warnings.....but it always turns out fine.

enjoyfool, have fun on your tour.  Is this a small independant Fair Trade coffee plantation?  Will you be bringing home lots of coffee for gifts and personal consumption?

Belated happy birthday ann and hugs and happy Wednesday to the rest of the universe.....

Today I discovered the "good" side of waking up at 5:30am every morning to commute with OldestMonster---the most amazing sunrise! ---wonderful colors, snowy mountain, etc....  I look out my window now and its kind of gray and dull (although very clear, can still see over 100 miles) and think how my perspective towards the day is totally different because of that sunrise. . .

Thanks girls - I pick up the scans later today and will read the report. Nice of the tech to tell me she couldn't see anything - hope the report confirms it.

3monst - I loved Seattle - my brother lives in East Redmond but I haven't been to see him there yet.

Rosemaryb - hope your results are really boring too - ((((hugs))))

Started packing - decided to not iron everything - I can do it up there as we need it. It's only for 3 nights. I usually iron everything so it packs nicely, but there will be heaps of room in the suitcase, so I really don't need to. Just remembered I need to buy the lady a present - what does one get for a 90 year old????

Supposed to be going for an end of project lunch today, but have to leave at 2 to go for the biopsy. I think I'll still go - should never refuse a free lunch :)

    Hi Everybody!

Susie .. free lunch is good!  Hope all goes well with the biopsy this afternoon.

Rosemary .. thinking of you and hoping for 'unremarkable' scans!

Linda .. the weather here is fabulous.  It was 54 when I left this morning for Roanoke and 76 when I got home at 2:30.  The fall colors are gorgeous.  It was a lovely drive up north.  I met my sis at Sam's Club.  We have rain forecast for the next couple of days, then the temps will really drop with highs in the 50's.

I applied for a job doing psych work for a large company.  I love psych work, but not working for someone else.  I have to take a test in the morning and then we'll see what happens.  I just wish I could find my own clients so I didn't have to work for someone else.  I've been spoiled being self-employed for so long.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

    Bren

PS .. Enjoyfool .. the coffee plantation sounds cool.  I've visited a coffee plantation on the Big Island before and it was really neat.  I love the 'son of a bish."

Well I guess the bone scan went okay. They had to take extra pictures of my ribs and I am trying not to worry about that but worrying is one of the things I do best. I don't quite feel like it was lollipops and rainbows.

I was thinking about words today. How does calling laetrile vitamin B-17 (or vitamin 17 as it is called in the thread in the alternative section) make it work? I thought it was proven not to work in the seventies.

As for things that work and things that don't work -- well, anecdotes abound.  There has been lots of well-founded research on laetrile and none that could verify it as being beneficial.  But, as I say, there are lots of anecdotes by folks who swear by this or that remedy, and that's what many people choose to believe.  To each his own, I guess.....  A good friend developed a very aggressive BC (pre-menopausal) a few years ago.  Her DH sold his business when none of the conventional tx stopped the progression.  They travelled all over the world -- including Mexico, Asia and Europe -- looking for a cure.  None worked for her, and now he's starting over, having spent all the business proceeds.  I don't think he regrets it for an instant; he loved her to pieces, and he misses her terribly.  I simply take issue with the peddlers of false promises.

Crazy.  I'm dreaming of a White Halloween?

Snow? That is EXACTLY why I moved from DC. The weather is too weird for me. Give me my 92 degree summer days from May to September then fall/winter with highs usually around 80 and low humidity (our dry season).

Rosemary, sending good vibes and hugs your way.

Athena and Blue, good to see you.

Been busy with the hated JOB but only 3 more days until...Bliss. Hope the stinking hurricane stays AWAY from Miami as I connect to Barbados through there. Doing the hurricane dance.

SNOW in DC??? if there had been regular snow in DC, I might have stayed. . . .the heat I couldn't take (still can't) but add to that DC has useless winters with ice storms and sleet.  Blech.

Susie 90 year old ladies are no different from anyone else.  You bring really good chocolate and scotch. . . .okay maybe some brandy. . . .

    I am jealous of the snow. . . .

We had about 18 inches of snow last night. Heavy wet stuff that broke a lot of tree limbs, since not all the leaves were gone yet. In the 50s by the weekend, though. It was pretty till you had to drive down the mountain before the snowplows got there...

I come back from vacation to talk of SNOW??!!!  It is too early to be dashing through the snow ladies ... Anne you are brave ... I would have rolled over and gone back to sleep until the stuff melted.

I'm way behind with everything here but it sounds like our favorite EFool is having a good time and learning some new Spanlish for us to use.

Good vibes to Rosemary for totally unremarkable scan results and to Bren for remarkable test results and job prospect.

Waving hello to all and going back to read all that I've missed.  You all are a chatty bunch.

    SNOW?  I'm not coming back.

We went to Fusagasuga today and visited the byooootiful coffee plantation, loaded up on coffee and coffee liquer.  AND, we ran into an Occupy Fusa movement, complete with the V for Vendetta masks.  Ultracool!

More later...no time now for typing...

     Hope everyone's well!

Ahhh, coffee liqueur!  I found mocha-flavoured Kahlua -- which is rather heavenly poured (sparingly, of course!) over Death by Chocolate ice cream.  A special treat.....savoured rarely.....by necessity....unfortunately.....

While I bemoan the crummy weather here, there is NO SNOW forecast for the forseeable future.  I'm sure any possible snow in VA or western MA by the weekend is simply a figment of the weather person's imagination --- it's much too early for white precipitation!
