I just had to share my wee bit of good news!  After a weekend of feeling low because I was unable ot take my chemo treatment last week, I had an ultrasound this morning that shows my tumor has shrunk 35% so far.  Hoping I have enough platelets to continue on Wednesday and smash it even more...

Congrats, MizMarie!  That's fantastic.  Good luck with your platelets.

Allformy4--for research news go to the very very top of this blog page, click on Treatment and Side Effects, click on Radiation Therapy, and then scroll to near the bottom of that list to Research News on Radiation Therapy.  I check all the various topics regularly--I love how breastcancer.org includes the actual medical article but summarizes it in "normal" English as well.

I have TCH treatment 5 on Friday. I literally can't think about it or I get terribly nauseated.  My DH keeps saying "only two more, only two more."  That sounds great, but all I can think of is SIX more long painful weeks of this hell. I have been so much more tired and weepy this round than others that I'm scared to think what I'll feel like after rounds 5 and 6. Oh well, onwards and upwards.  The one thing keeping my spirts up is that it's beautiful and sunny (72 degrees) here in Utah.  I live in the mountains and the autumn colors are incredible! I wish you could all be here with me to see it!  I've got three guest rooms and several bottles of good wine for anyone who's interested!Wink

MisMarie, that's great news!  Hope all goes well this week!

DebinUtah, sounds beautiful....I'll be right there!!! Laughing At least the sun is out here this afternoon, but it isn't very warm!

    Congrats MizMarie!  That's awesome news.

Deb - glad the weather is nice where you are.  In MI it was nice this weekend, but I was inside for most of it.  At least it is still semi nice and will be in the low 60s for a few more days.

For all that are interested, here is the website for Jeans Cream.  http://www.jeanscream.com/

Feeling rather glum myself and had a horrible time of it on Saturday.  I think I got my hopes up since Taxol is supposed to be easier than AC, but between my feet and hands hurting and the overall body aches, I lost it.  Trying to keep on keeping on!

JMULL- thanks for the Jean's cream link. Do you know if it contains parabans? I am trying to avoid them as they have been linked to bc.

15 days out from last chemo. Feeling so much better. Keep massaging my head! Ha! Trying to encourage the ol' hair folicles! I will let you all know as soon as I see any action up there!

I know a lot of you are feeling discouraged. Please, try to keep your chin up, I know how hard it is. It makes me sad to read your posts, because I know how you all feel. But, here I am, 2 weeks out, starting RADs next week, and I am getting ready to re-open my store! Yes, I am a crazy person, but I feel good! You all are getting soooo close to being done!! And, yes, we've gained weight. But, I have starting losing it. I gained 10 lbs. Last weigh in (last week) I had lost 2lbs. It seems to be mostly fluid.

Hey Ellen! Thanks for your encouraging words. I'm very excited to have my last chemo treatment #4 T&C this Thursday. Can't wait to start the radiation treatment. I will definitely look to your information about that. So please keep us posted.

Had a question: Do you guys consider yourselves sick? Had a conversation with an old friend yesterday, she insisted that I come to terms with being sick. I tried to tell her that I feel fine. I know I am going through cancer treatment but sick, that is not how I describe myself. Told her that I need positive comment right now. Anyone else hearing similar things from well meaning people?

    Thanks - Missey

JMULL - I'm sorry that the Taxol wasn't kind to you this weekend. The night after my first Taxol infusion, the palms of my hands turned all red like a sunburn and the skin even felt like it was sunburned. It hurt to close my hands in a fist. It went away in about 48 hours. When I went to my next infusion, they scaled back the Taxol amount by 20% (which I was just fine with). Maybe ask about that to lessen the issues with feet and hands?

Missey - You're almost there! Woohoo! To answer your question, I do not consider myself sick. Before I was diagnosed, I was never sick. Didn't even get a cold that winter. People in my office had bronchitis and sinus infections. Didn't get a dang thing. I don't even FEEL sick right now. So far, Taxol has been a dream for me. I'm actually running again. I don't want to jinx this, but other than the hair loss, I almost feel like myself pre-BC (just a little more tired and a non-stop runny nose). I don't want anyone to think of me as "sick" just because I have cancer. I'm just dealing with this little setback and looking forward to the days when my treatments are over and my hair is growing back in!

Micello13, I agree with you, I have had it relatively easy so far no major SE's but this TX #4 it has been a rough ride, I had TX thursday and after fri and sat feeling really loopy and out of control  I started having severe pain sun, mon and today it has been really hard as I feel so drained and run down ,and the side I had my MX on is so painful and stiff , feels like it did when I had surgery. Im getting scared now that I still have 2 more to go and hope my body can handle it, Im also very emotional this time too, I think we are all at the hard part of this now but it is encouraging to hear VTEllen say she is finally feeling a little better ,

Kasi, so glad u seem to be tolerating the Taxol better and running again good for you, cant imagine doing that now LOL had trouble getting to the bathroom today.

On a brighter note my hair is growing back already yeahh I have white hair all over my head about 1/4 inches I still think its weird as I thought it would not start until after chemo, but was told some people have growth throughout , hoping it continues to grow fast ,, I MISS IT. :(

I suppose many of us are at the point at which the "cumulative" effects start hitting us in the face...  I haven't even had #4 yet, yet I feel completely worn out.  In my case, however, I think at least part of it is psychological...  I really want to be done, and last week's delay was absolutely crushing - I dread being told tomorrow that it's still a no-go....

Summergirl, hang in there - that hair WILL come back.  I buzzed my hair about six weeks ago; most, but not all of it fell out.  A lot of what remains has continued to grow, but it is VERY coarse and white - more like beard hair.  I don't like it, but I don't dare trim it again.  Ugh...

Summergirl and MizMarie--I'm a fuzz-top too.  Some of my hair never fell out and even though I shaved it, it's growing.  I think I'd rather be totally bald since my head looks like a little old man's!

Missey--I've thought about that question too.  I get cards and texts that say "so sorry you're sick."  I feel like saying, I'm not sick, I don't even have cancer (since the surgery).  I feel lousy because I'M BEING POISONED!  The only time I feel like I'm "sick" is when I look in the mirror.

Kasi--you lucky gal (who deserves every ounce of that luck!); I wish I felt like running again.  I think I'm looking forward to that (and having hair) more than anything else.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Ellen.  Be sure to tell us all about your shop re-opening! I love it! Life after chemo!

    Hi Warriors,

Just popping in to give you all support.  I finished chemo last month and am doing fine.  The worse thing was feeling as if you are coming down with the flu but that varies from individual to individual.  My best advice is to drink lots and lots and lots and lots of water.  You all can and will do it.  It was not as bad as I imagined.  Grace and Peace to All.

Thanks so much for your comments. I feel better talking with you guys because you all can relate.

Kasi - Keep up the good work with running. I really have a hard time getting off the couch after a long day at work. I made a deal with myself to really get started while going through the RADs. ;)

Deb - I feel the same way looking at my bald head with white and black peach fuzz.

    This to shall pass.

    Take care - Missey

Tanya, I was wondering where you had got to, glad to hear from you.  sorry, this all sucks big time, but we will get our lives back, getting closer with each day.  I was just telling a friend today that I still can't quite believe this is happening to me, I guess we all think that.  Good job for keeping it together for your kids, see you are not looney yet as you can still be 'fine' for them.  when I get tx I am in the chair for 7 hours, it is a loooong time!!

VtEllen - I will check the label of the Jeans Cream and report back.  I am sitting on the couch right now and too lazy to get up!  Congrats on re-opening of your store.  I am sure you mentioned it, but what type of store is it?  So glad that you are feeling better!  It brings encouragement to all of us.

Missey - I don't consider myself sick.  As Deb said - we're being poisoned! One day I went "topless" at work and one of the women I work with said "wow, without your wig it really reminds me that your sick".  My response was "I'm not."

Kasi - glad I am not alone in the reddness of hands/feet.  Thanks for letting me know about the reduced dose.  Are you still on the same schedule?  I don't want my schedule to get pushed out since I am still hoping to get to the Bahamas mid December.  So glad that other than that Taxol is treating you well!  Hooray!

MizMarie - hoping there are no more set backs for you.  I think I would lose it in my MOs office if they told me that they were pushing out treatment.  Not that I wouldn't mind them cancelling it all together!

Tanya - I lost it this weekend, too, but luckily my kids were at my sister's.  Stay strong!

Congrats to all of you getting hair back on your head.  I noticed that I had little red bumps on my legs this morning and thought it was some new s/e rash.  But no, it was my leg hair growing back.  Well, at least I'll have hair somewhere!  :-)

Off to break up the bickering of my two oldest...good night everyone.  Best of luck to all of you in the chair this week.

awww finally feeling back to myself today but still have a lot of pain on my MX side , feel like Im wearing a harness , I did slack off on my exercises so I am gonna start them daily and possibly ask for physical therapy to loosen it up , I went to my Uncles funeral on saturday was so glad to make it as he was my fav Uncle, met a lot of family I havent seen in years , thankfully they all said I looked very well, but they havent seen me in years so wouldnt really know the difference, I feel like I Look SICK as I have lost a lot more weight especially in my face , but soon hopefully I will start to feel like myself and feel healthy again. My daughter will be home in about 4 weeks yeahh cant wait to have a female around again.

Taylor , dont feel bad, we all have our meltdowns , I have certaintly had a few and when you think of what we have to go through we are allowed, after all we are human.and its very hard to stay positive all the time no matter how strong we are. I might even join you and robo47 as a roomate LOL

hugs to all , and we are getting closer to that finish line !!!!!!!!!!!!!

JMULL - My treatment didn't get pushed back at all. The redness on my hands had gone away after a couple days and when I went for Taxol #2, they decided the scale back the amount I would be getting for the next three. No delays!! Woohoo!

Sorry this is short, just wanted to jump on while at work and answer JMULL's question. Love and hugs to you all! :-)

Ok, first let me say, again, that here I am 21/2 weeks out and feeling pretty much back to my ol' self!!!!. Still some fatigue, but honestly, I am thrilled to be so perky! So, keep hanging in there everyone, because your chemo-free days are getting closer all the time!

However, my eyes are driving me crazy. Very teary, all day. So, my vision actually gets blurry. I am using moisture drops, warm wash cloths. Anyone else having this problem? I start RADs on monday, so I hate to add an eye doc appt, unless I totally have to. I called eye doc and they said they might need to flush my ducts or something. Hmmmn. Want to avoid this.....

    Hi ladies,

I am on day #3 of my fifth Taxol with 7 more to go.  My MO might switch me to Taxotare with my next tx due to neuropathy.  He said that I won't get the neuropathy with the Taxotare, but I will increase other s/e.

I saw the movie 50/50 last week and I really liked it.  I was a little teary in some scenes, but I am quite emotional lately.  I have friend that is undergoing a lumpectomy as I type:(

I like the idea of a 12 patient ward at the looney bin!  I would be a 'direct admit' from Illinois!

I'm waving a big hello to all my fellow August sisters!  We've got quite a bond, don't we?

Ellen--I'm on day 20 of my 4th round and my eyes have run non-stop for the last week.  I am also using the moisture drops and it doesn't seem to help.  I tried Claritin and some other allergy meds and they didn't help either.  I hate it!  I feel like I'd look more myself if my eyes weren't so swollen and teary. My poor DH can't tell at any given moment if I'm crying (again) or if my eyes are just running.

YaYa--congrats on the echo!  I'm in the chair for my 5th TCH on Friday.  I'm looking forward to taking those steroids tomorrow--gotta get my house cleaned :)  When you feel up to it, tell me how round 5 is going. I'm more panicky this time, for some reason, than I've been so far.

Love and peace to all. May we stay sane, SE-free and prosper!

Deb, good luck on #5 - you're almost to the homestretch!

My platelets were up significantly, so it was a "GO" for the poison today.  Downside was that my hemoglobin continues to slip, even with the extra week and all the iron I ingest plus two transfusions in the span of six weeks.  MO is going to try to get my insurance to pay for Aranesp to counteract the anemia.  Anybody have experience with this?

MizMarie - Congrats (I guess) on getting the poison.  Hopefully no more setbacks!

Kasi - thanks for the info.  My feet feel a little better but both hands and feet are still itchy.  I will ask at my next MO appt about that.

VtEllen - I just looked at the ingredients on the Jeans Cream and it contains Methylparaben as the second to last ingredient.  Mainly it's aloe.  Guess I will do some research on parabens before I use it!

YaYa - congrats on the echo!  Great news.

Everyone else - hoping for no S/Es for the remainder of the week - or at least minimal ones.

    Hugs!

Those darn parabens! I have a list of the "dirty dozen" cosmetic ingredients from a natural health magazine. It is virtually impossible to find products that don't contain any of them. Even the stuff they sell at the natural health store has some of the ingredients. And, almost all the cosmetics I got at the Look Good Feel Better program contain at least one of the dirty dozen ingredients.

It's really hard to know what to do about all this. I want to use safer products but where do you find them?

I've switched from anti-perspirant to an aluminum-free deodorant and it seems to work quite well. I also have been looking at the Burt's Bees products as they seem to be safe. Does anyone use them?

Ellen, just wondering how your hair is doing as I know you didn't shave your head before starting chemo. Do you still have any hair? Just wondering because I also didn't shave and have about 10% of my hair left, mostly at the back with a few longer strands on top. I'm wondering now if I need to shave it before it starts to grow back or I'll have new hair growth amid the old stuff and it will be a bit of a disaster.

michelleo, i've started using burt's products and i love them.  i use a shampoo and a body wash for the shower.  they smell nice and you can find them at Target or some major department stores.  i've tried other 'natural' products and i can't stand the way they smell or feel on my skin.  just my experience.
