Too Much Surgery at one time!

Just a quick question.

 I'm scheduled for my ooph on November 17th and reconstruction on the 29th.  Do you think that my body will be able to handle two surgeries in two weeks?  I really don't know... should I have my ooph postponed?

I wish they could do it at the same time, but no surgeron here in Halifax would touch me in regards to the ooph so I have to go out of town and get it done.  

Just wondering what I should do.

    I had three in three weeks.  Port out, expander placed, and lapro hyterectomy.  Did fine with all.

    I'm not a Dr, but I know people do have multiple, back-toback surgeries, so you would probably be fine. Both are fairly short procedures too I think..??

    You could always ask one of the Dr if it would be too much.

    i'd get it all done at once if possible.. i quickly recovered from my surgeries.. went grocery shoppin 2 days after my radical mastectomy.  I was really quite fine.

    I would do it if I were in the same situation, I know what I can handle and what I can't.  My ooph was easy and I had no problems, I don't see any reason why you couldn't.  I might would hesitate more if the recon was before the ooph....I've not had recon though.  Good luck and let us know how things go.

    Kim, I had 17 surgeries with anaesthesia in just short of four years. (Long story, much of which I have described in our pinned thread "5 years." ) Four of those surgeries were in two weeks--one surgical biopsy, two lumpectomies, port installation and a mastectomy. My longest surgery was reconstruction. I had a latissimus dorsi and breast reduction on other side and was under for about five hours. I was getting concerned too and feared anaesthesia overload but all my physicians assured me that with the modern methods of surgery this was not anything to be concerned about, and it wasn't. I sprang back really quickly. 

    The only bad thiing as I got very fond of Versed--propanolol, the stuff that killed Michael Jackson. They give it to you routinely before surgery. It is great stuff when administered in a hospital setting,. I asked for a six pack to take home but they wouldn't give me any. 

    My advice to you is to relax, enjoy the Versed, and make sure you start taking stool softeners a couple of days before surgery. (Why don't they ever remind you about that ?) Weesa

    I think Versed is great too but it is Midazolam. Propofol is Diprivan and completely different.

    i would definitely do the ooph first, and then the recon, because the recovery from the ooph is really easy and quick (assuming you are doing it laparoscopically - if not then I wouldn't do both so close together)

    Go with your gut Kim.  I don't know much about the ooph but had the DIEP myself and it was a big surgery recovery wise. 

    And wise Weesa---you hit the nail on the head---pack on those stool softeners BEFORE your surgeries.  MAN did I suffer from that later.  Don't wish it on anyone.  Who knew????

    weesa -  I know what you mean about the pre-surgery meds.  I found myself actually looking forward to surgery, perhaps because the wonderful feeling took away all my worries.  I had 3 surgeries in a month, and learned that you need to pack your prune juice to the hospital.  A labor nurse gave me a tip.,  Warm up prune juice and it seems to work better.

    Kim - I think you'll be fine.  Keep us updated.
