    Jo I wish I had stuck to squares and rectangles. Found a double wedding ring at a consignment store by the quilt king for $4.00   already cut. That is what I am trying to do...Trying to not let it get the better of me...LOL Love your story!

    Irw - Thanks.  I learned to sew at a very young age.  My mother was a stay at home mom and even made alot of my clothes.  When she would cut out a quilt, it would be with scissors.  I would tallk to her on the phone and I would mention maybe new colors for a bedroom or living room and a couple of months later a quilt would arrive in the mail.  It was not until she passes away that I taught myself to quilt.  Thank goodness I can read instructions although I do much better if I can see someone else doing it first.  You can do it - I just don't have the patience at this point to try those kinds of shapes.

    Just found this thread.....after chemo I needed something to recharge my brain so I began making rag quilts.  The first was a Boston Red Sox one for my husband.  He had to do the cutting because I was afraid I would cut my arm off with the rotary cutter.  Since that quilt I have made them for my daughter, daughter-in-laws and my grandsons.  I grew up watching my Grandmother cut and piece and quilt.  For right now the rag quilt and its squares fills that need to craft.  Some day I will move on to a design and quilting.

    Sheila, that project is going well! You've inspired me to fix some of my antique quilts that never sold in my store cause they were duds. Now I can make them beautiful!!

    Antique quilts will get worn raw on the top and bottom where the man's beard rubs it raw.

    I am stagnant right now since I ruptured a tendon and tore a ligament in my thumb and wrist...and  am doing my tax recert...writing is extremely painful. I hope I am better by the cert test in 6 wks cause I only get 3 hrs to do it.

    I found some cute scarf patterns that endup being wraps or fancy collars if I can get going that will be Christmas. I have beading to do and repairs to a quilt bought for me.

    The quilts I made for girlfriends kids only one has survived... and Jerica is not giving it up or the afghans she took with her. Sisters either have lace work or afghans or a quilt or two from my leg reconstruction yrs ago. Off to get some tea and toast...it is getting cold here.

    A rag quilt I made for my daughter in law...the center panel was purchased for this quilt.

    Jana - That is beautiful.  Go to photobucket and click edit on the picture and resize it.  I would love to see more of the detail.  That looks amazing.

    My machine has a tulip stitch so I was able to use that to applique the painted panel to the square. I have really enjoyed making this type of quilt because of its simplicity...the fun is finding the fabrics.

    Jana, did you wash it at a laundromat to save your washing machine? heheheehhe I LOVE the colours and you did a great balancing job on the accent fabrics. Very nice. When my first grandson was born I didn't even do a quilt!!! I'm kind of glad, as my DD had her own rag quilt that she'd made at her garage sale and was annoyed that no one bought it!! I wonder if she'd have sold one that I made?????? Your rag part is perfect. It's a TON of work, eh?

    Oh Barbe, I remember sitting at the laundromat waiting for my rag quilt!  We were on a septic system at the time and there was no way I could have done it at home.  My kids used to fight over that quilt.  I noticed the flannel section at the ffabric stores is getting bigger and bigger.

    I realized last week that I have a baby shower to go to Saturday and didn't have anything done, but as I was looking in my quilting area and found this quilt 3/4 of the way done, just had to add borders and bind the quilt. It is a flannel 'quickest quick step' quilt that is quilted as you go and reversible. I am doing the hand sewing on the binding now. I will post pictures later this week.

    The lady who designed the pattern owns batiks etcetera & sew what fabric in Wythville, VA. she is at many of the local quilt shows. I haven't been to her shop but I love what she brings to the shows. check out her website www.batiks.com

    Oh, something I wanted to tell you, today I spent sewing up some projects for my church's bazaar November 12. I went to my mom's house and set up my machine in her living room. She was sewing on her projects and I worked on my projects. I sewed up 2 pocketbooks. It is more fun sewing with someone else. I will be doing marathon sewing at her house the rest of the week.

    It has been fun the past two days, except, dad has a small fire in the woodstove (in the living room), can anyone say HOT FLASH!!!. mom brought me a fan to keep the air flowing around me so I am not so hot. I was also able to get in her stash when I didn't get a coordinating fabric for the binding on the black/white pocketbooks, she had a black/white polkadot fat quarter that was just big enough to do both pocketbooks. If I hadn't been at her house, I couldn't have finished them. Surprised

    My quilt guild does a 'sew bee' at the quilt guild room twice a month that is fun as well.

    Here is a picture of the pocketbooks that I made yesterday.  The smaller one is about 8 inches tall and 11 inches across, the taller one is about 12 by 15.  smaller one shows front, larger one shows back.

    I had made some pocketbooks earlier out of blue/green paisley and one of the ladies at church said that she would love a black/white pocketbook and I got the fabrics then but just now got it made.

    The bags are great.  I totally love the smaller one.  Also love that the smaller one is not symmetrical.

    The larger one is showing the back side, the front also has the diagonal slash pocket as well as the welted pocket over the outer pocket. The smaller one has the straight pocket across the back.
