I was away from sewing for about 10 years and I do miss it. My DH bought me a new machine a couple weeks ago andnow I will need to learn to use it. I went to one class so far.

My sewing room has been unorganized since we moved here. It is nice and big but DH put a lot of storage boxes in there when we moved in a year and a half ago. I had surgery where we moved from a few weeks beofre the move and then started chemo out here a few weeks after the move. This wasn't a good sign for getting my sewing room organized. I have two GD's 1 and 8 so that will help motivate me plus I rather enjoy organizing my sewing areas. Kind of an OCD sort of thig but it is so much better for me when my sewing area has order. I can focus on sewing then and find what I need when I need it. Others don't come along and mess it up, not like the rest of life. 

I may quilt eventually but for now I am thinking about other ideas, childrens clothing etc.

I have been pretty sick for the past week, but I was able to finish Patch's Halloween costume and ship it off to him in time to  Trick or Treat.  His parents say he was quite a hit.  It was sure a lot easier making the costumes for my kids when I had them right there to try it on them.  DIL says the outfit fit perfectly, but luckily  he didn't grow too much sicnce she sent me his measurements.  It turned out cute, but I am biased... the model make it.

Thanks to all on the compliments on the quilt.

Today I made 2 more pocketbooks from an old pattern. My sister made a pocketbook from this pattern when she was in high school (mid 1970's) but it is popular now like a hobo bag. It has a rope/cord handle, I looked at Hancock fabrics for the 1/2 cording and couldn't find it, I finally found it at Tractor Supply!

Thank you fo rthe comments about the tiger suit.  I actually had to blow up a balloon to the measurements DIL sent so I could make sure it fit his little head.  She's such a stickler about putting anything on Patch's skin that she wouldn't draw any whiskers on him.  Amazing my kids ever survived with the list of "don'ts" mothers these days have been given.

Haha Neece. I fulfill any and all requirements my DIL's make known. I want to see my sons and grandkids. It is the least difficult solution htat I know of. I really try hard not to break any of the rules. One DIL has a ton of life rules and doesn't let one in on them. Now that is a hard  one. She says she has a three strike system and then you are out. Her world is very narrow, she wouldn't let my son come to our daughters wedding in Jamaica because she had heard it was dangerous. Sad.

Christmas I bought some red dupioni to make gift sacks for our local Grand daughter. I think they will last and be really nice for many Christmases to come. I still need to get cording or ribbon as draw strings and perhaps a bit of trim for the sacks themselves.  I am looking forward to making these.

I am trying ro enlist my DD help to organize my swewing room here. It sits over a large and deep 3 car garage so it is the largest I have ever had. Now that I am feeling more human again I want to make use of the space.   I feel good when I am among my things that include some of my childhood dolls and little furniture and things that people very special in my life have given me. I have a box with a number of my Grandma's old farm quilts.

It is time.I am glad I found this thread once again.

Ginger, my craft room is my second bedroom and I LOVE it!! It is still very messy as it does become the dumping ground for anything that doesn't fit anywhere else!! I get inspired just by walking into the room...sigh.....!!!

My DD helped me clean off the desk that is my sewing table. We even set up my machine and got it plugged in. 

Now to tackle the cutting table. It is two 24" wide doors sitting on horses that were cut tall. I am 5'11" tall and I need a high cutting table. I have a 48" wide self healing cutting board on top of it. Underneath I have bins for my fabfic.

My current problem is that my husband used every flat surface to put things as we moved in. I was just a bit after surgery and in no shape to run up and down stairs and supervise. My sewing room was used as the dump site for anything he didn't know what to do with. It is better than what you might see on hoarders but I hate that it is so danged disorganized. When we packed to move, my friend packed for us, I labeled EVERY single box and noted the contents in a book.

I even offered one long wall of the sewing room as a place for the overflow. How that was taken to mean every foot of floor or table space I don't know. Grrrrrr. It upsets me more than I would have thought once I actually got a close up of the enormity of the mess he has made since we moved in. I care more about my special space than I do about the rest of thehouse, the things in there are MINE and it feels disrespectful to just dump things ontop of my special things.

I don't feel like I can adequately complain because he is otherwise very good to me and has helped me hugely since I became ill. I need to think of someway to let him know and figure out a way to enlist his help without screaming. I really need help in this because I am not very strong any more and my back kills in just a few minutes of moving things around. 

I think I sound so ungrateful but I would like my special space to be nice  and to have my granddaughter come up there and play dolls with her. I have nice things and they look all wrecked like this. Oh enough, I will figure it out someway

Back to being thrilled that my sewing machine is setup....must be positive. Still this feels important and I need to remember this Arimidex has released this cranky person that must have always been living inside of me all along. Look out for the cranky lady, warning warning!

Somehow the "I should be grateful I am alive" rings false today. Of course I am grateful but there is more than this.

Any room here for non-sewing crafters? I make jewelry. I would love to learn to quilt, but don't know when I'd find the time. I still haven't finished the simple knit-purl scarf I learned how to knit during chemo six months ago - I always need to be doing something crafty with my hands, and I didn't think it was appropriate to bring an propane torch into the infusion room to make jewelry

Great! A quilting group...   I'm a quilter too!  Since my recent diagnosis, I have put aside the quilts in progress in order to make two baby quilts that can be wrapped with written cards and stashed away in case I die before either of my daughters has a baby.  That way, if either or both do have a baby later, there will be a personal gift for the grandchild from me.  These take priority over all my other planned projects.

Ginger if that's a rant, I'm in real trouble.  That's just plain mild compared to some of my hissy fits so you can rest easy on the rant-scale.  Estrogen-suppression is a real b*tch..

Gingerbrew.  I can somewhat relate.  27 years ago this month I had a 5 week old baby and a raging breast infection.  We had to get out of our house because escrow was closing.  I was nearly bedridden with this newborn so other people took it upon themselves to unpack my boxes or stack them.  It took three years to "undo and redo" the organization of the house.  You need your refuge to be just right.  When that happens, everything feels better.

OMG I remember breast infections, ai yi yi!  Were you a La Leche mom?  My DD is still nursing her 14 month old and they do so well together, it makes me happy to see them interact.

I was a milk cow... Went from 32B to 42DDD.  The boys didn't suffer from lack of milk.  So much for button-up tops during that period of my life.  DIL was worried about breastfeeding, but she is enjoying it fully.  DGS is almost 5 months.

My MIL unpacked my kitchen hat time, too.  The really bad part was that we had purchased her house so she put things where she had had them, not where I wanted them!

Our bad moving experience was when we bought the house DH grew up in from his parents.  They left behind spoiled food, pots pans, dishes, furniture, clothing, boxes they had never unpacked when they moved there 21 years before and a teenager. What made the move a nightmare was that the men in the family decided that the move could be made in one day - them out and us in.

The plan was that my SIL would spend the day packing and cleaning for the in-laws and I would be at our rental packing and cleaning.  I packed and marked everything I could ahead of time and fortunately had more than enough boxes to pack up the rest.  SIL had made two runs to the liquor store for boxes - in her VW bug.  DH didn't tell me until we were on our way to our new home - at 11 pm after we finished cleaning  the rental - that SIL had been emptying a lot of our boxes in a corner of the living room and using them to pack the folks stuff.  As for cleaning she hadn't even swept the kitchen floor.
