    nicole0513,

I have not been on in awhile, but decided to tonight because I am also having leg pain same as you, the worst is when I get up from sitting it takes me awhile to walk right.  I am not to happy with it because my last chemo was Aug1st and just finished rads.

    Lots of hugs  Pam

Laureen I had my planning session today and got my two dot tattoos. They are going to start my rads in the next week to 10 days.

plils- I still have the pain- still hoping to wake up and that it will be gone but its worse in the morning and when I've been sitting for too long. It can be pretty severe... trying to be patient somedays its hard...

Beaglesgirl,  it is hard - the pain can get difficult.  It got me down today.  I made an appointment with an acupuncturist to see if some of the pain can be relieved.  The soreness is my hands keeps me from sleeping.  I hiope time is the answer - my oncologist says the neuropathy should resolve in 6 months.  So, I guess we need to hang in there and find whatever relief we can.  Ugghh.  Sigh.

I have been thinking of acupunture and massage. Is massage ok during chemo? I know I did it 8 years ago with chemo as I was in a car accidient and it was the only relief I could find, but my cancer was an earlier stage back then. I think I may call the cancer massage place...

    bak94,

i get a weekly or bi-monthly massage (depends on schedule) while on chemotherapy.  i just specified to my massage therapist that i cannot have deep tissue massage on my right shoulder and arm due to my right mastectomy.  i find a relaxation massage (effleurage) helpful.

but of course, i suggest you consult with your oncologist first.

    take care,

    laureen

Bak94, my oncologist ok'd the acupuncture and massage but I would check first before having anything done.  I think it would be better to find a therapist who is trained in doing acupuncture for cancer patients - same with massage.

Thank you for the responses to my question about leg soreness. It is nice to know that there are others that are expriencing the same symtoms as me. Pam I am like you after getting up from sleeping or sitting it is the worst and walking up or down stairs is difficult. I am waiting for the day that it feels better.

Hi ladies! I apologize for not checking in for some time. I have been running around like a nut assembling a surgical team (BS and PS from 2 hospitals). Unfortunately, I learned 2 weeks after my last chemo that, although my tumor is about 70% smaller, I still have scattered DCIS in more than one whole quadrant of my breast. So, I am not a good candidate for a lumpectomy. It took some time to come to terms with this, but I have surgery tomorrow (uni, NSM). Then onto rads. This journey is not for the faint of heart.

I have been thinking about all of you and wishing you all peace with your decisions, congrats for finishing chemo, rads, surgery, etc. For those nearing the end of the chemo road, hang in there. I am thankful that I bounced back pretty quickly from feeling like dog $hit. It's amazing what we can do. I am so happy to be off those pre-meds, particularly the steroids. The after-effects of those were making me a basket-case.

    Big hug for everyone.

I hope those of you having leg pain get relief soon! I have more of the numbness, wierd feelings in fingers and toes and it seems to be expanding up further.

Patriotic, I will be thinking of you tomorrow. I hope your surgery goes very smoothly. Sorry to hear that you can not do the lumpectomy. Are you doing immediate reconstruction? I am having bmx nov. 30, no immediate reconstruction for me:(.

Plils, I will be having complete hysterectomy after my bmx and rads, so sometime next year. Please let us know how your surgery goes. It is alot to go through and seems like it will take time to recover from all the chemo, rads and surgery, but we will recover!

I have 2 more abraxane to go! My nurse told me that normal dose is 80 and I am getting 110 weekly, no wonder I am such a mess! She said we could lower it, but I declined, I want to do what I can to fight this crap, although I am really not feeling well today. I am getting a massage a week from Monday! The place I am going is affiliated with my cancer center.

Where is our long lost friend blondelawyer? We miss you! Hope all is well.

All I want to do is sleep! I am so tired. Anybody else get like that toward the end of the 12 weekly chemo? I did so much better in the beginning, now I am wiped out.

Bak94, after my last chemo I felt truly horrible - it was the worst chemo for me.  I was in bed for most of the 2 weeks after because I was so exhausted.  4 weeks PFC I am less tired and have more energy but the effects of the Taxotere linger in my lower legs and feet and lower arms and hands.

bak it'll take a few weeks to get your energy back - and then onto rads I imagine!  I felt pretty good when I started rads and then got tired again at the end of rads.  I'm 4 weeks PFR and energy is back in full!  Hang in there and rest when you need to!

Sorry I've been MIA--I've just been overwhelmed with grief and frustration with all of this.  Honestly, I wish that I could just curl up in bed and stay there forever.  It has been a rough few weeks.  My husband died last year on Nov. 2, so I think that the approaching anniversary is part of what is going on.

As for an update:  I started rads last week and so far that has been fine.  I've had 6 treatments, 29 more to go.  I am also taking Xeloda and having some nausea with it.  I even vomitted yesterday.  I'll see my oncologist tomorrow, so I'll make sure to bring that up and see what we can do about it (I've been taking ativan to help).

Bak:  Congrats on getting approved for SSDI.  I have been considering applying myself since I haven't been working.  Out of curiosity, what date did they determine your disability "started" (the day you were dx or the date you applied, or some other time)?

Hello ladies, I have not posted in a long while- have been mired in the routine of work ..rads...work...rads...appointments..etc.. And have finally reached the end of treatment! Wish I had the energy for a riotous party or even a solid wooo hoooo!

Congratulations to those that have finished chemo! The breast cancer treatment merry go round is such a marathon and so many of us are crossing one finish line or another!

I did 25 rads over 5 weeks and finished last week. As a graduating present my eyebrows suddenly grew back so thrilled with that!! -so over the cancer patient alien look! Hair is totally silver and one inch long so have thrown off the scarf and hats and going topless! Just in time for summer here. Still not long enough to comb. All I need is boobies and I will be good as new! I have TEs and am tossing up between implants or DIEP as the surgeon thinks that would be a good option for me. Still undecided.

At the moment just need to recover - I have a nasty burnt area under my armpit that is oozy and painful and physically exhausted but that's the worst of it after being under constant treatment since March- BMX, chemo, rads. Time now to heal !!

Wishing everyone a healthy week! (((take care))) Robyn

blondelawyer-this must be a very difficult time for you. Too much to go through for a year, well, actually more than a year as you have dealt with so much caring for someone so special to you. My heart goes out to you. I am not going through half as much as you and I certainly understand wanting to curl up in a bed and stay there. Chemo and rads has got to be tough. I do remember feeling sick just from rads when I had it 8 years ago. Rads wore me out, although my skin held up pretty good.

I think you should apply asap for ssdi. I did everything online, then they sent me a packet to fill out. I put the date down that I got the phone call that I had cancer and that is the date they used, April 5th. There is a thread in the financial forum that Steven gives advice, a SS lawyer. He had mentioned to put the 1rst day of the month that you became disabled, or diagnosed, so I could have put April 1rst, and that way I would actually got paid starting september instead of october. My payment for October starts at the end of November, which is a big relief for me as my surgery is Nov. 30 and now I don't have to worry  about working right after surgery. If you apply now you should actually start getting payments as soon as they approve you and maybe even some back payments. I can not believe how easy it was for me to get ssdi. I spoke with them once, after they called me to tell me they received my application, they got all my records from my doctors, which I had signed a release for. Do anything you can for yourself to ease the stress of this crap, you do not need to be working right now and you don't need to be worried about finances.

Robyn-Congrats on finishing!!!!!! Here is to a speedy recovery! Yay for eyebrows! I am so tired of being bald, can't wait for hair! I have a few eyebrows but they are greyish blonde, just like my straggles of hair. My hair has always been dark, hope the dark comes back! I have 2 more abraxanes.
