This is my first post here or anywhere. Don't know if this is appropriate for this site, but I am desparate and reaching out for some advice. I apologize if I offend anyone.

My sister is dealing with breast cancer. She had surgery and is waiting to hear whether she needs chemo and radiation. She & her husband live in the south, her family is north. She has cut off communication with the family, and her husband travels a lot. I don't know how to help. Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance!

I'm sorry you and your sister are going through this.  I hope she will let you help her - my sister helped me through chemo.  I actually stayed with her and she brought me food when I was really sick.  Having said that, some people actually work all through chemo - everyone is different in how they respond to it.  I had six cycles of chemo and missed about 8 days of work each cycle, but worked through all the other days.  If your sister has cut off communication, all you can do is offer to help as much as you can, and see what she will let you do.  I found it very helpful to have someone go with me to appointments so they could take notes because it was so overwhelming at first that I would forget what the doctors said.  Radiation has been a breeze compared to chemo - I've been working full time throughout.  Good luck, and I wish the very best for you and your sister.
