Good luck J-bug!

LOL Khs113 & Dexxy I am with you on the muscle tightness and aches..when i climb the stairs OMG i feel like an old old lady coz when i get up i have to stand for a sec to catch my breath and feel the "burn" before i can move!!! I met with my RO yday and mentioned this to him, he sadi it may be the after effects of chemo, to try and take Aleve/Advil/Motrin, took some Aleve last nite, didnt do much relief. I will be meeting with my MO next weds, will keep you posted. Planning to try and get much rest this weekend, will see.
Take care lovely ladies.
-
Congrats J-bug!!!! I hope it goes smoothly. I do hope you are able to have a little bit of time to just enjoy being done with chemo. Then you can move on and concentrate on the next phase.
Those who are done...bummer to hear about your muscle soreness, fatigue, etc. Not something I'll look forward to. I hope it passes quickly and I'll be interested to hear what you find, if anything, that eases that.
I plan to get a membership at the Y as soon as I feel up to it. I want to regain my strength and stamina as quickly as I'm able to. They also offer a Livestrong program for cancer patients & survivors. I hope to be able to get into the next session in January.
Hot flashes--enjoying those as well!
Neulasta--had originally thought we may forego it for this round but when all was said and done I agreed to do it this one last time just so my last treatement doesn't get delayed for any reason. I get the shot this afternoon. Can't believe how quickly the soreness sets in. In the beginning it took a day or two but last time it was the same day. I'll enjoy feeling decent until tonight then.
luvmy2kids, J-bug--hearing you on the 40 thing. I turned 40 in May and received my diagnosis a week later. Fun. Here's hoping that 41 will be a much better year for us!
Rabbit--love seeing all the names for your walk! I hope things go well for you tomorrow and thanks for remembering all of us.
-
Hi, I'm back, trying to catch up. But forgive me for not getting to everyone. Rabbit, thanks for putting all our names on your walk shirt! Awesome!
Allenan hope you had a happy birthday lunch!
JBug congrats on your last Taxol! Best wishes and good luck with your surgery.
I'm waiting for my Cancierge friend Kathy to pick me up for my day at La Spa. This is #10 of 13. The last two weeks I was plagued with the runs. I think that knocks me out more than anything else and the Immodium was only of limited help. Have to discuss with the Onc today to see what other options I have for gluing my insides together. I had to take off an extra day from work because I had been up running the entire night before.
Trying to juggle too many things right now -- flood damage and still no repair -- negotiations going on between adjuster and insurane company. Yuck. My son is supposed to go into a program but is dragging his feet so that adds some stress to my stress free life. LOL. I think he'll go, but at his own pace -- paleolithic glacier speed (wrong era probably, but you get the idea). Younger son is off to Canada with his girlfriend to celebrate his 25th birthday. I want to know how he is 25 and I'm not any older. Strange... Having to start thinking about applying for another job in the DOE for next year since my current position ends in June. Another huge Yuck! And then there's the BC stuff on the side. Too much stuff. It will work out in the end I think. I hope. LOL
Having trouble keeping up with this busy busy board but it seems like most of us are doing better than we were a few weeks back, which is a good thing. Rabbit I'm a believer in slower infusions even if they take longer. I don't have any more reactions since we slowed things up. Except for the runs. LOL. Can't have everything I guess.
Gotta run and pack my "go" bag for the day. Catch you all later. Have a good one!
-
ellenquilt--have you ever tried probiotics? They help me out tremendously when things don't want to come together.
-
Jbug-// Congrats!!!!!!!

Has anyone dealt with a cold/flu virus during chemo? I had a stomach bug during A/C (not like A/C didn't feel like one big stomach bug........) which was a nightmare. Have been feeling much better, and BOOM, caught the cold/flu bug running through my office like wildfire. Two days out from chemo, so I am dealing with the taxol yuckies too. No fever, but I am totally paranoid I'm going to end up with pneumonia! My counts have been really good but I am basically on house arrest with this ! Onc says watch my temp and call immeadiatley with a fever........ Any suggestions as to what OTC meds to take? Onc says nothing with acetamenophin as it will mask a fever- can't seem to find a cold med that does not have it??
-
Allenan, I got the idea from the March chemo group, one of the ladies there did the walk and got a huge poster with everyones name on it, including mine because I was popping in there once in a while asking questions...so use the idea, it wasn't mine LOLOL I'm sure it's been around here a long time
And good luck with your walk!
mavinbook, I will let you all know for sure how I go on my first taxol Wednesday, I hope it's slight SEs for sure!
kk11, you are 18 yrs younger than me, I would think that has something to do with it, I am now 46 and even though I would like to think I was quite healthy and fairly fit before dx, the chemo is probably hitting me much harder than it would most your age, I can't imagine doing a dose dense!! The sound of those words "dose dense" makes me shudder LOLOLOL.
misswim, I wish I could help, that's one of the things I actually have not gotten LOL I've had every other problem it seems! Ask your onc if you can take echinacea, I know it does a great job at keeping you from getting colds/flus...or sambucol, I've taken than many times when the first hint of a cold or flu seems to be lurking and almost always have avoided it.
ellenquilt, I will let you know if I am a believe in the slower infusions too, I think and hope you may be right
hope you get rid of the big D, it sucks, I get it for days after infusion and then a small episode off and on but have been pretty lucky with it not lasting too long.
yooper, you just reminded me I need to look into the Livestrong program here too! My PA told me about it, very much interested!
dexxy and snoopy, I hope you all get rid of those aches and pains, I had them severely for several days and am praying I don't get them long term at all, the several days I had them was enough for me!
luvmy2kids, have fun with the lock in! LOL I don't envy you
:)
J-Bug, congrats that is AWESOME, celebrate when you're feeling up to it!
Cathy_C glad your SEs are over on the taxatore, I find that one horrible chemo!!
khs113, I hear ya on the exercising and stretching, my body is not only in shock from the chemo crap but from not getting the normal exercising in, hopefully the taxol will allow me to do more.
I am having a tooth pulled Monday, the same tooth they took the crown off of (root canal tooth) is now loose! Apparently it's fractured and not salvagable, so off to the oral surgeon Mon. I have to stop my lovenox injections Sunday and Monday, this will be the 2nd tooth I've ever had pulled, besides my wisdom teeth, wish me luck.
Then Tuesday I have an upper GI scan, I got to see the GI dr. today, she said chemo will flare up these things 10x more than usual, she's seen it many times. But she wants to take a better look at my esophagus. She also took me off omeprazole and put me on dexilant, said that is stronger and should help a bit more, she also gave me a script for some liquid stuff. hopefully the lower dose of taxol weekly will keep me from having such horrible upper GI problems.
I am going to put a pic of me in my gypsy outfit at the survivors dinner Tuesday night, wearing my wig for the first time EVER in public and possibly the last, I just don't think it's comfortable. The dinner was a Halloween theme, kickoff to the walk tomorrow, there were around 800 survivors there, it was awesome.
xoxoxo to all, picture coming up.

misswim: I use Robutussin CF for colds, no hidden extras. I have to take half doses sometimes if I notice my heart racing. I am really careful with meds because I am allergic to NSAIDs (all aspirin and Ibuprofen products). A warm bath with some eucalyptus oil in the water to clear your sinuses would be very comforting. You can also put eucalyptus oil (just a few drops) in a large bowl of hot water, set the bowl in front of you with a towel over your head and the bowl to breath in the warm vapors and clear sinuses.
All: Last treatment was very nice. I was very tired due to getting up early with the kids. I got a nice Benadryl nap that was 2-3 hours. I didn't get my usual chair so I was right in front of the nurses' desk and my nurse is very loud, so I was waking up a lot - but I was just too tired to care. I kept telling people all week and today at the treatment center that I was graduating today. When I went to leave the nurses were flustered and saying that they almost forgot - then they ran and got several things; a necklace with a charm on it that said "friends", a small bunch of flowers, a purple heart certificate showing that I had successfully completed chemo and then they all came out and sang a song. I was embarassed and not expecting that at all. I have been so busy having my own little celebration this week, I was hoping that I didn't do anything that made them think that they had to do that. But - I was very appreciative and told my support nurse that I might trade surgery(ies) for another four months in the chair. I appreciate you all celebrating with me too!
kk11: Congratulations on your last treatment!!!! I am sure you are looking forward to the fading of SE's. How long til we start growing hair again? I have not had any hair growth the entire length of chemo, except on my legs - go figure! Your swapout surgery is about the same time as my mastectomy. My understanding is TE's are not an option because I will be doing radiation after BMx. I am interested in the DIEP flap and working on learning more about it.
Rabbit: I have to get a dental evaluation because I am having some pain. With all that I have had going on since I moved here three years ago, I have put off dental visits and just tried to take really good care of my teeth, brushing and flossing 2x a day, using mouthrinse, etc.
-
Thanks J-Bug and Rabbit- I took some echinacea and Robitussin- feeling a bit better now, mostly about ready to collapse. Hoping I feel better in the a.m.
J-Bug- Congrats! Your surgery is coming up and I think for me, knowing the cancer was out of me was the best feeling- I felt I could breathe a little more. I have had a bilateral with reconstruction and if you ever have questions, fire away or PM me.
Rabbit- You look beautiful! Thank you again for walking for us!
-
Hullo everyone. I had my Taxol/Herceptin on Wednesday and could not sleep that night. Guess the steroids finally kicked me. Went to work today and felt like my brain was swooshing around in my head. Not sickly or SE or anything, just woozy. weird. I did more than 8 hours today since I wasn't tired and then walked a few blocks. First time I've exercised in quite a few weeks. Feels good. Hoping it will stave off the restless leg I've been plagued with. Hope everyone has a pleasant weekend. I'm off to buy a cocktail dress for my theatre's fundraiser. Hope I find one with padding in the boobs since my foobs are lopsided. lol.
-
shinypop: I get the swooshy sound in my ears when my hgb is low. Of course, sometimes the energy level is very high at the same time because of steroids with the heart racing and sleeplessness.
-
Rabbit - great look! Is that a whole wig or halo hair?
-
Rabbit---Have fun on the walk today and thanks for taking us all with you. Love the gypsy look.
-
Just so everyone knows, that photo of me above with the big, cheesy grin is Photoshopped to exagerate the whole mouth area. I really couldn't do that in real life!! : ) I don't want to scare anyone.
-
J-Bug- I was trying to figure that out!!!
Congrats!
-
LMAO J-Bug!!! That is so fricking funny!!!
Had a great time at the walk, will be posting some pics in a bit
I was drained after, took a 2 hour nap!! But feel great now.
Back in a bit with pics

PhillyBird, it's a whole wig, it's cute as could be I'm just not a wig person.

can i join?:) I had my mastectomy july22,and started chemo FEC August 31st. My third is Wed. 10/12,so far so good, just lost my hair.I'll have 4 FEC and 4 Taxol or Taxotere,my onco. Hasn't decided yet, then radiation, then hormone therapy 5 years. It seems like a long journey, but i feel great! I have a 5 year old boy,who im ready to fight the world for,so im fighting this with all i have for him. Good luck and best wishes to all,
God bless you ladies and keep smiling, you are all beautiful with or without hair, with or without breasts.
-
lulujune17, of course you can join us, there are no strict guidelines here with time frames
We are very similar, we both are ER+ and HER2-, grade 3 and the tx plan is the same, although we just changed mine from taxatore to weekly taxol. And I get my surgery after chemo.
Welcome
;);)
-
Thank you rabbit:) our diagnosis are a lot the same, i wish you the best from all my heart. how is it with the tx?did you have different side effects than the FEC? i heard it is worse! i hope not! And i hope you get done with your treatment and with surgery and get back to ur life:) You will be fine im sure.
God bless

hi lulujune17, I had a hard time with the docetaxel (generic for taxotere) I got hand-foot syndrome or something similar, had pretty bad bone pain but it only lasted 3-4 days, really bad upper GI problems, but I've had that all along with FEC too. Everyone is different, I've heard a lot of people say that taxotere is a breeze compared to FEC so hopefully you are one of those!!
Best of luck to you too xoxo
-
Rabbit- you are awesome, love ya girl!!!! I thought of you as I have been knocked out on the couch with a cold all weekend and am so thankful that you had the energy to walk, you are amazing!
The taxol side effects have been easy to manage. Alot of muscle/joint pain, no real bone pain, but virtually no GI or mouth sore issues. Nueropathy has only been noticeable this round for me, and it is mild. I bet you'll find it much easier than docetaxel.
Lulujune17, welcome!
-
J-Bug-Thanks for the info on the swooshing ears, it would come for several days and go away. I never new what caused it ..Your pic is so fun!!
Rabbit: Thank you so much for walking for us too. After all the SE that you've had it is good to see you smiling, with and with out the wig.
I have two questionsl: Did or are you taking pics w/o hair to save as part of this journey? I don't need it as a reminder, I'm not going to forget and I have two scars etc.. I go w/o hair around the house, bandana outside with neighbors/ kids, and wig in most public outings.
I am going for my 6th TC Wed. and the Onc has said from the beginning that it would be 6 or 7 depending on how I tolerate it. He will give me more info Wed, prob won't say till after that cycle and SE, counts etc..If I can handle 1 more then I will, downside is that it moves my rads out through the holidays.
-
misswim, I hope you are feeling better, colds last so long especially with what we are going through....
cshell, I have tons of pics of me bald, with scarves, bandanas...every which way
I just told my sister yesterday at the walk, I want her to help me put together a scrap book, she used to do that as a hobby and is very good at it!
I am a bit sore today, not bad at all, just a tad, now on to getting my tooth pulled tomorrow LOL ugh!!!
-
Rabbit, thank you for the walk! Hope you had a great time.
As far as SEs, I have not been taking anything but alleve for the joint pain from Taxol. Until now. I recently started taking Claritin for allergies and it seems like it really does help with the pain. So there's that then.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. It's beautiful here in DC.
-
