Trying hard to lose the pounds!!!!!!!!!

Hey Divas, thought I'd pop in and see what was going on here. I've been off the boards for awhile, I started treatment for Hep C last August and it is worse than chemo. The good news is that only after 3 mos of treatment I was negative. I go Monday to find out if I've maintained that after 6 mos. I won't finish tx until the end of June. This medication is horrible, it causes depression so I'm on Zoloft, I'm extremely fatigued all the time - I've missed more work on this than I did with chemo. The sorta good news about it all is that I have lost almost 25 lbs. since August. I'm happy about that, but what a way to lose it.
I go to my onc next Thurs for my 4 mo. f/u and it's that time of year for the mammo. Feb. 17th was my 2 yr anniversary of finishing chemo and March 7th will be 3 yr survivor anniversary. Gosh it seems so much has happened in that 3 years. The best part of it has been meeting and getting to know some of the wonderful ladies here.
I'm glad to see all the old diva gang here and some new ones. Hope you're all doing well. I missed you. -
Hi everyone - weighed in this morning - lost 2 last week. I'm glad this is on-line and I can weigh naked, wouldn't be as good with clothes!
Am down to 197 and am still doing well with the points - I must have ate like a field hand before because this is plenty of food that I get now! Total loss is 12lbs in 4 weeks.
Hope everyone has a great week!

Hey Ladies
Hi Lois - I am glad to see your posting. I have been away for a long time. Sorry to hear this treatment is so tough-but just a bit longer. Hang in there!
Something I wanted to share, I thought was pretty funny...
went to chruch Sat and the priest was talking about lent....he said look at lent as a catholic form of weight watchers......I thought that was soo funny. I didn't realize it was this week - so I am getting all my yummy stuff in today and tomorrow. Someone told me that tomorrow is Fat Tuesday?!?
I am giving up chocolate, soda, and basically desserts(cakes, ice cream...etc) Does anyone else give anything up for lent?
I know some say you should give something up and others say you should do something....the priest said if you can do good for 40 days, why can't you do good all year...he has a point...I haven't done the lent thing since I was dx'd - not quite sure how it's going to turn out...
take care ladies
Diane -
Great job Keri.
-
I'm going to try to give up late nights. Really trying to get up and go to mass at 6:30 then be able to see my men off in the morning (they're usually gone before I wake up) and the only way that will happen is if I get to bed by 10 or 10:30.
So, no Letterman for me.
I've basically given up pop and candy anyway - not how I want to spend my points!!!
Thanks, Rose. -

Patti,
My plantar faciitis went back to hurting a lot again. So for the past several days, I have ceased using my treadmill and doing aerobics (duh). I know that it wasn't good for me, but I also know that I should be exercising.
I do Pilates every day, however. It does help to tone the core area, but a lot slower than the walking and aerobics, of course.
But in a few weeks, I will have to have a back tissue expander in preparation for a lat flap, so from that point on, all exercising will be prohibited.
I will be sitting around like a giant slug. sigh......
Denise -
Denise - do you have any kind of arch support insert in your shoes?
-
Rose
I have a gel heel insert for my shoe. The thing that helps me best is that I wrap 4 ace bandages around my arch, so that my heel doesn't touch the floor at all. I do this around my house and when I am cleaning houses. Of course, I am taking the chance of throwing my hip out of place since I have to hobble around.
I am also doing the wall push up exercises to stretch and strengthen my calf muscle.
I had the same thing several years ago, and it gradually got better. And I realize now that this was probably caused by my doing aerobics in my socks at home, instead of shoes.
Denise -
You might give these a try - have been using them for about a week and the pain is much improved.
Insoles -
KariLynn,
Thanks for the link-do you have Plantar Faciitis? My onc had told me not to get the whole sole insert, but if it helps you, I will certainly try it!
Denise -
In the health section of the washington post they had an article about this today.
www.washingtonpost.com -
Denise,
My sister has been to a doctor and diagnosed with it and when my heal starting hurting she dx'd me - don't laugh! I've been trying to be better about stretching and had a heel wrap thing that worked pretty well but was too bulky for some of my shoes. Saw an ad in a magaxine for these and decided to give them a try - so far, so good.
I doubt I go to a dr if I can keep it from bothering me too much so I may never know if that's really what I'm dealing with - see enough doctors as it is thank you very much! But judging from when it acts up and how it gets better - that's where the good money is (did have xrays to make sure not bone mets...) -
KariLynn,
Thanks for the link-I did order the insoles and I appreciate your help.
Rose-thanks for the Wash Post link. That article is the most informative that I have read yet about Plantar Faciitis.
Heck, with you ladies, who needs doctors?
Just send me your bills, please.
Denise -
This one's on the house!
Hope something works for you. My sister also has me doing the ABCs in bed with my feet and that feels good too. -

You Gals are making me hungry. I have been doing GI diet for 2 weeks and its doabble, real simple. losing a pound a week and i am also cheating on the odd goody. some days more than others
I really like the GI diet too Floss. I particularly like this low GI banana smootie recipe, it's really tasty.
Mango -
So I've been going to they Y since my Curves-type gym closed. I usually make it four times a week and do a recumbant bike and occasional weight machines (once or twice a week.) For an overweight girl with cancer, I'm in pretty good shape (I thought!)
Today I decided to swim (since hubby got the summer clothes out of the attic...) OMG! The Y has an Olympic sized pool - I thought I was going to have a heart attack on the second lap! Was hoping to do most of the laps at a quick crawl but ended up with a slow breast stroke (so as to avoid an actual stroke.)
Not in as good of shape as I thought...
Oh well, will keep at it. I love to swim! Hope everyone else has some exerecise they love to do - it really does make you feel better (as long as you don't drown...) -
Hi Gals:
Just wanted you to know that I am going to be off the boards for about a month - going to be babysitting. First I'm taking care of my grandson in Chicago and then going to Milwaukee to help out with my granddaughter while my daughter/son-in-law move to their new house. I may be able to get on the computer at times but not sure how much. We'll see . . .
Anyway, in regard to losing weight, I'm very discouraged since I've lost only a pound in about a month. I know alot of it is my own fault with "cheating" but golly, didn't think I cheated that much!!!
Anyway, my goal is to try very hard while I'm away and then come home with at least a four or five pound loss. Sound reasonable???
Good luck to all you divas - I'll miss you but will get back online when I can.
Blessings,
Pat -
Im also trying to lose weight. I gained 35 pounds while I was on chemo. Brought me up to 210 which freaked me out. I finished chemo 3 months ago. Im at 190 and still losing. So here is what I do.
...Im on my own version of the South Beach diet. My own version because south beach allows certain fruits. I eat all kinds of fruits because I think they are just plain healthy.
...I exercise every morning. I concentrate on toning and aerobic. I dance, I do light hand weights, the abdoer, and the treadmill. I do this everyday before I go to work.
...If I cheat, and I do, then I plan to exercise a little longer the next day.
... I have two favorite drinks. I like ice water with a fresh lemon. I fill my container with ice. Squeeze the lemon juice over the ice and then keep filling it up throughout the day. My second favorite drink is green tea which I brew in the sun. I love iced tea and green tea is healthy for you.
...And my newest toy. My husband got me an exercise ball for my birthday yesterday. I used it today and what a blast. I sat on it and bounced like a little kid jumping on a bed to my favorite songs. And then I used it to strenghen my balance.
Im having fun creating new exercise programs everyday. Im having fun losing weight and Im stronger. My doctor wants me to get down to 166. I would be happy at 175 which is where I was before all this bc stuff began.
Anyways, Good Luck to Everyone. And keep on smiling.

Okay, so today, I did my week's worth of errands and shopping and my plantar faciitis is killing me. I haven't yet received the super insoles that I sent for, but I did have my energizing massaging gel heel for my shoe. But it doesn't help much at all. My foot just burned really bad all day. So I got to thinking-what I really need is something soft and cushy to put in my shoe and it came to me-the cotton boob form that came with my Softee camisole.
I filled it with the fiberfill to make a little boob, and put it in my walking shoe! It is great!!!!!
Lets see, now I have a real saline implant, a prothesis, a soon to be back expander boob in my back, and one in my shoe!
Anyone else know someone with 4 boobs???
I am so smart.

We went to the movies last night, saw '16 weeks'. My opinion is if you haven't seen it wait until it's on DVD.
They had a ad for an online ticket place -movietickets.com.
The ad showed aliens attending a movie. They had to wait in line for a ticket because they didn't know about the ticket service. The girl alien had 3 boobs, they were right across the front.
If you paint yours green perhaps you can audition for a part in the next commerical. -
Rose thanks for the thumbs up
I will wait...
Denise you crack me up..Sorry
your foot is still bothering you
I did not have weigh in this
Thursday because it snowed here
I think I lost another pound
my scale is always off
Cleaning out the attic today
I guess I should burn some calories
it is a crawl space attic..Hope I don't
get stuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
xoxo

Denise,
I've had plantar's fasciitis off and on for several years, but developed an intractable case just after I completed radiation over a year ago. I had gone to a PT and got special inserts about 3 years ago and they were a godsend. I always do the stretching exercises too. But last year the left insert seemed not to fit right and the pain came back.
I finally went to an orthopedic surgeon who put me in a walking aircast for 6 weeks--that helped for a while but was somewhat tough on the hips. Then, boom, back again this winter. I finally got a big night splint that keeps my foot at a slightly upward angle to keep the fascia stretched while sleeping and that seems to be helpful.
I've got a couple of gel things too that I wear--they were for the foot though. Nice you can get double-duty out of your cotton boob form. I might have to try it!!!!!! -
195 today!! Yeah, two more pounds. I was at 193 Sunday am but made myself eat more of my allowance points so I wouldn't get the computer-generated reprimand. Got it anyway.
I rarely use all of my weekly allowance - do you guys use them?? -
Way to go Karilynn!!!
I rarely use all
of my points
but the way
I am feeling today...
Well lets just say
I might be
using a few more!
I am off for a walk
and to drink up
maybe that will
do something for
these pangs...Not sure why I feel so hungry today
Do any of you
get days like this?
This is the first time
this has
happened
since starting WW
Next weigh in Thursday
xoxo
Patti -
I'm not on WW but I think I'm using your extra points.
-
Ginger,
Thanks for writing. I finally called a podiatrist for an appt and asked about getting the night splint. My Onc. won't let me get cortisone shots, and I get a bad reaction from them anyway.
I kept putting off seeing a podiatrist about this as I have been awaiting recon surgery, but keep having delays. And now it is supposed to be 70 this Friday and I want to go out and walk!!!
Darn darn. So today I build my boob heel to a C and it feels even better, although my shoe slips a good bit as I walk.
Denise -
Yeah KariLynn!!! I think sticking to the 2 pounds a week pace is a good idea. You want this change to be longlasting so changing your habits SLOWLY is better. Keep up the good work.
Denise - what kind of a reaction do you get from the cortisone? That was mentioned to me in connection with my foot nerve thing- does it keep you off your feet? -
Rose,
About 15 years ago I was just shopping, and had a terrible pain in my arch and heel that lasted over a year. I forget what it was called. I had 2 cortisone shots and they just made the pain much worse, so the Dr said that it was a reaction against the shot. So I didn't do much walking. This is the same foot that keeps getting the plantar faciitis.
Heck, I really do want to exercise, too. Honest!
Denise -
Hi Denise (Quasi!!)--
You are cracking me up all over the discussion boards!!! First a boob in your back, and now a boob in your shoe. OMG!!!!
I have plantar fasciitis in my left foot. It started 10 years ago and I kept feeling inside my shoe heel to try to find the nail that I was so sure was in there. I finally went to the doctor and was sent to physical therapy.
The physical therapist used some kind of ultrasound on my heel and also had me do exercises for the back of the calf muscles, ice packs, and whirlpool soaks, and she had me get arch support inserts--the kind that you get in medical supply stores, NOT the kind you find in drugstores. I have had absolutely flat arches all my life and my left arch is much worse and quite painful compared to my right arch and the left foot is the one with the bad heel too.
The arch supports, from the minute I started wearing them, really helped my heel get better. The arch supports hold your foot up in such a way that does not make your heel roll in your shoes. I also was advised to always wear shoes (like running shoes) with at least one inch of thickness under your heel, with heel stabilizers built in on the sides to keep your heels from rolling side to side, and with the kind of rubber that you find in running shoes, but don't find in cheap shoes.
In five months I was in much better shape with my heel and I wore arch supports for probably about five years with no repeat problems in the heel. I have stopped wearing them and only occasionally feel slight pain in my left heel when I am sitting in my recliner with my feet out and with no weight on them. But I have no problems with my heel otherwise.
Now, if the physical therapy I am getting for my degenerated discs in my very painful back would just get better, maybe I could walk long enough to lose weight and get back into shape.
The inserts that you ordered may do the trick, but if they don't, maybe try the harder (but cushioned) arch supports to see if they work. They took a little bit for me to get used to them but they really worked for me. I can't remember the brand name of the arch supports but I could look on the internet and try to find the name if you are interested, so let me know.
Good luck with your heel pain. Hope something works.
Hugs,
Celia088
