Hi Ladies...............sometimes just when you think your getting "too old", someone gives you a great compliment.................
Went to my grandsons (both play college football) on Saturday............A father of one of the boys said to me "hey its great to see you again this year"................He mentioned that last weeks game (which I didn't attend) had nasty weather.......damp, cold, etc...............I said "well I didn't make that game, but I watched it on the "college website".........................he said "how did you do that..........................told him I went to the Franklin and Marshall website, but you could only hear the game on that site............................so I then decided to try the Ursinus website (opposing team), and I said "I got it on their website.....................he said in amazement.......................Really, you did that....................
I said "yes "
He said ............."I'm impressed that you at your age (76) are that computer savvey that you can go from website to website to figure out how to find a game"..........................
Then he said to me....................I'm an M.D. (internal medicine dr.), and I have patient's younger then you who will not go near a computer when I make the suggestion"...............
I said "what they need are grandchildren, in college, living in another state, want to find out all the lastest info, or pay their bills online.............................................well the last one blew his mind....................he said "you even pay your bills online"...................then he said, "can I give you a hug, you sure do make me proud of the "older generation"..................................what a nice man..............................and he even came over after the game while we were all tailgating, and offered me a piece of cheesecake..............
Before he left at the end of the day he said "you must love your grandsons very much to do what you do"................then he said "and I just found out from your son, your only 3 months out of surgery, and radiation for BC"..........................then he said "your gonna be my "Poster Girl" for all the "seniors" that I have as patients.............................
I went home with a different outlook, and then thought.................he must have seen something in me, that I am still looking for...........................maybe I'm doing better then I give myself credit for...........................I just know, some days are tough.............................hugs ladies...............

{{{DUCKY}}} You are my hero!
-
Ducky-others see us as we are---we are our own worst critics! Congrats on still having what it takes to be a pin-up girl!
-
good for you ducky..I love it when the medical community likes our computer skills...
-
Eph3........................well thank God the poster (pin-up) [part was for my "computer smarts", and not for my body....................Good heavens..............now there is a scary thought, haha.
Barb........thanks so much, but girlfriend..........I get tired just trying to follow you from place to place...................your amazing............
-
hey "pin-up girl" is a "pin-up girl" no matter what part of us is being pinned!
-
I think a lot of times seniors are underestimated.
My Dad is 96 and bored in a rehab hospital where he is working to regain his mobility and get home again.
My brother got him an i-phone so now he uses that instead of the hospital phone, he can receive texts, send them, check his e-mail, do his banking, check Facebook, play games and use the flashlight app. He got the three year contract with his phone.
-
good for him...
-
I'm with Joni, what a compliment. Pin-up is pin-up!
I have been gadding about lately but will be slowing down here starting this week. Whew. Too much running around.
-
lassie, love your Dad! The three year contract says as much about him as his use of the phone does.
-
There are women older than any of us whose age I've seen who probably could be pin-up's for other reasons--think Betty White at 90!
-
Ducky....good for you. You're a lot smarter than me in the technical department. Just can't keep up like you do.
Barb ((((DDs and StepDDs)))) VERY hard work sometimes.
Had my big appointment for my back today. I nearly didn't make it, as I couldn't get into a bay for my parking permit....and had to go to a multi story nearby. Nearly didn't make the walk, about 200yds, kept having to stop. Dr has acknowledged it is taking some time, but now he is calling for a second MRI, the first one I had was Oct. '09, and Dr tells me he can see things are a lot worse just seeing me walk, and he doesn't want to go in and not be prepared. He also said if this op. isn't sucessful there won't be another one they can fall back on. I will have to stay as I am. I was a bit too shocked to gather my thoughts and argue with him, but I shalln't be accepting this. He told me if I were 25-30 then they'd go in and use metal screws and rods to sort it out. Just need to find out my rights before I start doing a fan dance !! We don't have a choice of consultants, at least once you have got hitched up with one you're expected to stick it out with them. Thru' no fault of my own I have been with this Dr 2 years, and maybe 2 years ago it'd have been a much easier op. They have kept me in a queue, so that the damage has got worse.
Just came in at t/time and straight into feeding dogs and puppies, so not had time to get on computer and have a look around about it, and how I stand....so now off to consult Dr Google !!!
Isabella.

{{{ISABELLA}}} How much does that stink? I feel for you and am sending hugs your way. How terrible you had to wait 2 years and get so much worse.
-
Oh, Isabella, this just suks!! Hope you can find something encouraging on the internet. I wonder how soon after your 2nd MRI your surgery can be scheduled?
Kathy
-
oh, Isabella! what a crock.. they keep you in a que for so long, then tell you "this is it" because you've had to wait so long... im appalled. i hope you can get it all straight... praying for you, my dear friend....3jays
-
Thanks for your good wishes.
QCA. I was told 'see you in about 4 months' as I came out. I frowned, and Dr said 'well, put you down for 3 then'. I shall then be back exactly where I was yesterday, having my pre op tests, and joining th bl**dy queue again. They have to do op. 'within 6 weeks of pre ops', so I think I will be going into Feb. by then.....I can see myself crawling in on my backside !!!!! WAS hoping all would be done before this Christmas. I am really kicking myself now for not paying to get this op. done 2 years ago.....no-one ever said there'd be a long wait. We have a rule now, and its been in force 2-3 years, where you are supposed to have ALL done, from first 'moan' at Drs, to the operation, WITHIN 16 weeks...what a laugh !!
We have the most beautiful day coming up. It is quite fresh, but a lovely sunny day is forecast, with no wind. I am off to sit in my garden, soak up some sun and catch up with my reading. In short, a lazy day !!!
Isabella.
-
Isabella, I hope you enjoy your day today. I am appalled at the way you have been treated (or not-treated!) by the medical community. That just stinks.
Sending best and warmest thoughts your way.
-
Isabella, I'm utterly shocked at this. Would you be able to pay for the operation this late in the game? So much time has gone by with your enforced waiting and everyone you see must realize you're not getting any better. Anyhow, hope you had a good day reading in the sun!
Kathy
-
Isabella, that is so wrong...
-
oh, Isabella: can't you make like the "squeeky wheel" as soon as the tests are done, and that way get things started?
im so sorry about the DD 's "goings on" but i've learned ( the hard way) how you brought them up, isn't neccesarily(sp) the way they follow as the go pon their way...
my youngest sons b.day is this friday. the one who doesn't tal;k directly to me anymore..( for no reason we casn figure out) i had a terrible time keeping him, and having him. he turns 30 this yr. so, i texted him, offering to tske him to dinner or just cake and coffe here with Mur. I've decided, even if he won't celebrate with us, i'm going to celebrate.. he's the one natural son i have, and im going to celebrate all that I went thru to have, and keep him here. saved him from suicide 2xs ; so gonna celebrate his life...with/without him!
i know you have the same heartache with yiour son, and my heart so understands..
by the wya, did you ever get my "thank you"? it currently has meant the world to me all over again... ( long story) i hope you had a lovely day.utside with your bookk..............3jays

L'Shana Tova to all my Jewish friends!
-
Barb...what does that mean ?!!
-
It is a traditional greeting and means 'for a good year' as Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish new year.
-
Isabella, why did they have you do a pre op if the surgery isn't within 6 weeks? What changed?
-
barbe...they didn't even get a start on pre op. Started looking at my notes, then got my '09 MRI up and just threw at me they wanted a more up to date scan before they proceed, so 'no point' in going to pre op, as they have to do op. within 6 weeks of pre op tests. I was booked in for a 5 hour appointment. I was only in half an hour. Was pleased to get out of the place. Now I am in a queue for another MRI...and no idea how long this will take. The last one I had done was done within 1 week of being ordered, but then they sent me off to a private hospital for some reason ! Well, I actually know the reason. My hospital had bought a block of MRIs at a very favourable rate from the private hospital...cheaper than they were able to cost it, and private hospitals work very much in the 'now' not in 2 years hence !!! so I fell lucky.
Today has been an absolutely glorious day. Temperature around 80, little wind and much sun. I have a thing about wind. It really drives me to drink. Where I live is about 50 miles fron the sea. and there is a great big wind tunnel right across from the coast, right on past me for about 20 more miles. When it's 'windy' it's howling past me. When it snows it's coming past me sideways. There isn't much respite from this most of the year. I have just one small corner where I can sit out..WHEN I do sit out, and not get blown away. I had a small terrace put in my garden where I have had to shelter it with fences and climbing plants just to get a place to sit and read and not take off ! I don't notice the wind very much when I am working, and in and out of buildings, but now I'm living at a more sedate pace I notice it very much.
Called at big DIY store this afternoon, just for somewhere to go where I know I can hop straight out of my car and grab a cart...then I'm away for an hour ! Got a 'bug' to do some painting. I have 2 stools and a plate rack to paint when I get at it. Got them all positioned and ready to go. I shall have to paint sitting down. Not done this before, I have them up on a work bench in my workshop, so will see how it goes. I need to do it before the weather changes, as I have no heat outside, and don't fancy sitting in a cold building shivering. I went outside to clear a space to paint, and found 3 kittens in my workshop. 2 look about 4-5 months old and 1 looks about 3 months .Don't know how anyone hasn't seen them and told me they were there. They are spitting and hissing wild , so...3 more mouths to feed !! Altho' looks like their mothers have been keeping them well supplied with something, as they look quite chubby. Certainly weren't taking food from me tonight.
3jays. I do hope you get together with your 'J' for his 30th. I miss my son so much. He was a very big part of my life for 40 years, then just ups sticks and moves....taking G/children with him. Haven't seen those children for 3 years come Christmas. Sometimes I wonder would I have had children if I'd known what I know now !!!!!!! Has your 'J' responded to your offer to see him on his b/day? I have been trying to contact my son to ask him about my VCR problems. I have left 3 messages on his cell, 1 on his landline, 1 message on FB, all in the last week, and not a sausage back. I KNOW he is permanently glued to his cell, so he can't say he hasn't got my messages....but what do you do ? leave it....or keep on trying, and risk being labelled a whining mother !!! Ya know, dogs are SO much less trouble than children, and much more affectionate. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Isabella.
-
Isabella, it is so hard with children. My step daughter had me be mother-of-the-bride for her wedding then when her father remarried a year later she dropped off the radar like a rock. We have begun conversing again lately (she divorced and moved to Seattle) and she is coming to visit on one of my free air tickets in Jan. for my 60th BDay. Can't wait.
-
I am so fortunate that my children and their husbands all want to be in contact with us and come see us whenever they can and always have a place for us when we come to see them. They are so supportive of me and all that I have been going through. It is so good to get to know all of my grandchildren. I still would like to see them more, but I get to see them as often as possible and they all have special things they like to do with Grammie when I am with them.
Barb - So glad you are going to get to see you step-daughter for your BDay. What a treat that will be.
3jays - I keep praying that those bys of yours will wake up and smell the coffee and get some sense in their heads and come see you and want to take care of you. I wish I could see them and introduce them to the Louisville Slugger I have in the closet for such occassions.
Isabella - hope you can manage to get the MRI soon and get the surgery done so that you can keep walking at least a little. Sounds like you son needs to meet the Louisville Slugger too. (In case you do not know what that is, it is a big heavy wooden baseball bat!) Does wonders for getting someones attention. ;-)
-
Isabella - what you're going through, to get this surgery, should be considered medical abuse. What about the Hypocratic oath - "do no harm." By waiting this long, they certainly are doing harm. I was all upset and in tears last night because of the money I owe for copays and deductables. I've got nothing to complain about. My surgeries were done within a week or two of when I wanted them scheduled. The hospital can now wait for it's money. Isn't there some board/committee that you can appeal to?
-
it IS criminal, they just keep putting you off, Isabella. im so sorry..no, J #3 hasn't responded and i didn't REALLY think he would.. AFTER his b.day; he'll tell me, sorry , i missed the call. i didn't expect an answer; but HOPE springs eternal, as you know.. im still celebrating. i DID deliver him that day. i din't the other 2; they're adopted. sad, i wanted them so badly, but circumstances changed things, not so good to my side... AM seeing jay #@ tommorrow nite. he's still in a 1/2 way house, doing well.. he was the only one to worry about me, and bc/ ms. He still is the one i speak regularly to.. it is what it is. i can't change ANY of that. i just try my best to let them know i'm here if they ever need/want me.
L'Shana Tovah to all my Jewish friends, also. wish Marty well, Barbara. guess you have the up/downs with the step, also.. i have a friend that told me lately "we all have something" and she was right. life doesn't stop for bc; except the wrong way, stopping us in our tracks.......3jays
