Well, our system stinks. Wait wait wait...unless that is you pay pay pay !
If I had known I'd have been waiting 2 years for a back op. and that I would have gotten so 'old' in my walking I would have paid at the beginning. My main worry now is that my walking will never come back as it was....Of course I want to be walking dogs, gardening and flying about as normal...but the longer I wait the more I see this slipping into the long distance!
I paid for my BMX....the wait then for the op. was then about 6/8 weeks. I was panicking so was in in a week and all done....thought I'd be cured... ha ha. No-one to tell me any different, so I went private. The contrast to normal hospital was just amazing, it was so 'swish' to what we are used to, and the best bit was, after I'd forked out all the money it was the EXACT same Dr. as I'd have had if I'd waited and not paid. A lot of our Drs work in the state hospitals, then go off and do more hours in the private sector. The hospital I use now is a university teaching hospital...it's just like it feels as if you are in a grubby department store.
With all the upheaval with the money crisis cuts are being announced thick and fast, so I am worrying just what they can cut from my back op. I did see it a few weeks ago that surgery is now NOT being recommended for bc for women over 75...mastectomy that is...it's lumpectomy or bust ( no pun intended) now. Next thing I know they'll be telling me 'no op. just buy yourself a wheelchair if your walking goes altogether !!'
The public meeting I went to 2 days ago was quite lively. Not as bad as I had expected. The councillors from the transport department tried it on with me.. I held my ground. They then 'appealed to my better nature' to help take the pressure of the excess transport going thru' the houses, to let 'some' trucks use my lane. I just said no. I am not dealing with something that is not my problem. I don't want big trucks thumping up and down my lane, I don't want the worry of the lane being damaged, and I certainly don't want to put my cats in the way of that sort of traffic. Don't ask me where on earth the little devils go to, but they tramp up and down the lane on and off all day. Maybe they have got part time jobs and not told me ! If I look out of my bedroom window around 8-9am you can see first one, then another picking their way home. Well, they know its breakfast time at 9am...my very first job, so usually most of them will be there by 9.I have a little cowbell outside my back door, and if there doesn't look to be enough cats sitting waiting for me I ring it, and the stragglers come running down the lane.
I was sitting in my bath this morning, at just after 11 am. ( I had a lazy day....was in my jimjams 'til 11am !) and the sun was pouring straight in on me. I don't have curtains in my bathroom...no-one to see me...or no-one for me to scare! I very rarely have a bath at that time of day, so the sun was really welcome, it was low in the sky and full on in my bathroom....it was warming the room. I have lit 2 of the wood burning stoves 2 days running now, what a difference its made, but what a job its going to be for me to carry logs. I shall be fine if I can remember to ask G/son to fill the log basket for me on an evening, but my memory isn't good !!! The log shed is about 50/60yds from the back door and when it snows or gets icy it's not a good job.
Bedtime now, just having a quick shower and into my bed. I can now get on and have 2 or 3 baths /showers a day...no DH to moan about how much water I use ( which I do !) I justify myself by blaming the relief I get from the hot water on my back ! Much needed.
Isabella.

Isabella - Glad you held your ground on the traffice in the lane. Hope you can get your surgery done quickly before your walking goes altogether. {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}} girlfriend. Take care of yourself and get the G/son to bring in the logs for you.
-
Isabella, good on you standing up to the people! Your lane is your lane. Pshaw! I can feel winter coming here in Tulsa. This morning it was raining and very chilly but this afternoon was better, with sun and the temperature was around 75. Still chilly for me but OK with my sweater on.
AJ, you are there! How cool! Keep the pix coming.
-
BarbA - Chrissy and I are here. Missing you, but know you would be here if you could. I will try to get some pictures downloaded in a little while. We are all up on our computers and just chatting away. Stay warm girlfriend. Did I tell you my DD#2 and her DH and girls live in Owasso which is like a subburb of Tulsa?

AJ, and Crissy, awating pix

I would post some pics, but have to wait for AmyJo to free up some space on this little notebook of mine .......guess it has too much crap in it.
Well, four of us are here at Shell Knob....AmyJo, Chrissy, MissKitty and me. I was very worried since it rained all morning, but it cleared up by afternoon and it looks like we are going to have sun today, although it is still cool. Badger will arrive this evening and tomorrow Elimar is joining us. We are having apple pie for breakfast( with ice cream....one of the gals said What happens in Shell Knob, stays in Shell Knob) since we had snacked so much yesterday afernoon and evening, that after dinner we were too full for dessert.
My Uncle's neighbor already stopped by this morning.....she is involved with the Haven of the Ozarks, the animal sanctuary we are going to visit.....also tomorrow she is in charge of the Ugliest Dog Show that they are having at Skakin' in the Shell, a little local festival. Chrissy and AmyJo want to see the quilt show they are having.
Hopefully you will be seeing some pics soon.
Oh, I have been reading the ins. talk.....I know people in Canada and they have to wait a long time to get anything done.....and I have a patient who is an MD and they moved to the States becasue he said he was much better off working here....but I also know people who send to Canada to get their drugs. I have good ins...that is why I got married, remember...it's retired federal employee's and they had no pre-existing clause.....once we hit the $6000 maximum out of pocket, everything is covered, even the Rx's. Although I am still waiting for them to pay for the herceptin, but they keep telling me at the onco's not to worry, it will be covered. I have noticed a big difference in the way I am treated at my onco's since the practice was bought by the hospital.

Glad y'all arrived at Shell Knob--now send pics ASAP!!

How the heck can you focus on a hummingbird?
-
Amazing picture, Lisa. I had never seen a humming bird, until a few years ago at my brother's bird feeder.
-
Absolutely fantastic hummingbird pic! THANKS
-
I didn't know they flew at night! Who'da thunk it?
-
I didn't know they flew at night either. amazing shot, Lisa.
Marybe, AJ, Chrissy, we're all looking forward to pix from Shell Knob and I send you all big hugs.
-
There were five of them , I could hear them buzzing around and see them a little
from the lights coming from our house...I have alot of shots, where I missed entirely
-
You might have caught a bat! I LOVE bats!!!!
-
They probably weren't 'buzzing', they were probably 'humming'. Ergo, hummingbird!!!
-
Lisa..what a fantastic shot. It almost looks like the birds head is covered in sequins. If I use my camera ...and I just treated myself to a new one... whatever I shoot has to be standing completely still or I blur it all!! Just NOT a photographer anywhere near the calibre of you.
I am still wrestling with getting pics onto my dog site to sell my remaining puppies. At long last I managed it...but don't ask me how. I shall probably not be able to do it if ever I need to use this site again. I was allowed 12 pics on the site, but only managed 2. OMG I get worse. The 2 I got on took an age to load, then I kept getting told 'unable to upload'...so I left it at 2, and all my ( 3 ) puppies were away today and yesterday.
Just to make life more interesting I have gone and got mange, from my dogs. I thought I might ! It isn't bad, but popped myself a spot on treatment that I put on the dogs before it gets any worse ! Should work. If it works on my dogs, it'll do me. The alternative is some foul smelling stuff in a bottle from the Dr....and I don't want to turn up at the hospital next week reeking of something dead.
Phyllis...don't beat yourself up about feeling tired, this will probably go on for a long time yet....don't get too ambitious...give yourself a break...or 2 ...or 3. I can sympathise with the drain pain...I always used to catch mine turning over in bed.
I bit the bullet this last week and ordered myself a new fangled recorder for my TV. We have just had all our signals updated, so it meant new TVs for me, for 2 of the bedrooms. They were VERY old and great big things, so was pleased to update really. Certainly look nicer. I have been getting along nicely for about 20 years on a very old system of recording, but was told this wasn't compatible with new signal. I asked and asked around, no-one wanted to help me change my old system to match the new TV so I got what to me was new and mysterious, but to most other people has been part of their lives for years ! My new recorder was delivered today, plus half hour tuition I paid for, and I am just none the wiser ! At one stage this afternoon I had completely lost all the programes on a brand new TV. I can never fathom out a cell phone, so was getting a bit ambitious thinking I could understand how to work a new fangled recorder !! To crown it all the man who delivered my new recorder said my old system would have worked fine, all I needed was a different cable... TOO LATE now, it went off with the bin men this morning.
DD decided to pay me a visit today. She has her brand new truck, has decided to not work again, and is living it up ! Off to Spain for 2 weeks in 3 weeks....full of tales of her exploits, her nightclub visits and her clothes !! What a life. As she went she says 'don't forget to email me about your hospital visit next week' I just have NOT got the fight in me at the moment to cross swords with her. Then again its not my business how she lives, so I should keep my thoughts to myself !! I think of my G/daughter being brought up in a devil-may-care household....but again its not my business....the little girl seems full of herself, goes to nursery, dance classes, swimming, has a pony, and has plenty of clothes ( tho' nothing is ironed!) doesn't want for anything...but I still am not happy !!! Bring back the good old days, when children were children, and NOT mini adults at 2...AND went to bed at a reasonable time ( G/D often stays up until her parents go to bed ) I think that's my trouble.
Just off to have a slow wander around outside, the dogs seem restless tonight, lots of yipping and yapping among themselves. Some nights they get this way and all it takes is a great big YELL from me and they run off back into their kennels, no doubt wondering what they've done !! If I don't put a stop to it it could go on a few hours yet ! I only have 3 dogs boarding now, the season is almost done...they must wonder where on earth they are with all the racket going on around them.....probably their strange yaps that set my dogs off in the first place.

Can't have a parade without a Navy Band!

marybe, WHERE are our pictures of shell knob... i'm anxing!!!!
Isabella: i understand the tv thing. we're WAY behind here..can't afford the new ones. and although we have a dvd player , no recorder...yet. we still record on VCR!!!that will have to change soon. the one in the bedroom is now broken. want to find a dvd recorder, other than a DVR.. but don't think they make one, yet..I'm used to being 3 steps behind, technologically wise, we live quite close, in finances.. but, we may have to up date to at least a dvr. we CAN get one from comcast...
it's great, that you're coming back on more. i really missed hearing your stories.. glad your puppies are gone, now. when i get any info on"how tos'" on computer, i cumpulsively write it down, in a book. then, i back it up in documents, in the computer.. i've gotten quite compulsive about it.. but it works!!! i even have lists of what i've out away, and where, cause i imeddiately forget!!i hide things so well I can't find them lol............3jays
-
3jays...not one iota of good me writing down what I do because I can never remember WHAT I JUST DID that worked !!! I spend hours and hours sitting here cussing and sweating trying sooo hard. When something happens correctly I'm so over the moon I go get myself a drink, then can't remember how in the h*ll I got where I am right now when I come sit back down again.
I had 2 very old cassette recorders. ...is that what you are calling VCR ?? I loved the simplicity of the system. I tried all ends up to hang on to it, but kept getting told they would just be outdated as the new TV signal came in...which it did on Sept 21st. I wouldn't buy the DVD system, just because I didn't think I would sort it out. I THINK I have a DVR player now, it records onto a hard drive, but I need to push that old fashioned cassette in every night !!! I miss going to bed and not having my favorites recorded for me to get myself off to sleep. I have even rung up the manufactures of the new player, but as I have it installed UPstairs, and my phone is DOWNstairs I can't be cantering up and down with step by step instructions. They didn't seem to believe me when I said I didn't use a cell...and I certainly won't have a landline upstairs. I am a dinosaur ! I have just been looking around ebay and see there are still cassette recorders to be had. Found some that were brand new, but old (very old, I would think) stock. Don't care if the picture quality is not too good, like a baby I want my dummy back !!!
DD has visited again today, she has been rooting thru' my spare furniture for her new (old ) house. They filled up a horsebox and pickup truck with 'stuff'...I just told her to get on with it and take what she needs. I have got quite some space now. She was having a 'quiet' day today...having got mixed up with some trouble in her 'local' last night. She is talking of chairs and glasses flying thru' the air, and looks quite haggard ! I, of course, am itching to know whats gone on, but pretend I just don't want to know. Her latest wheeze is to apply to take in foster children, but one look at her Facebook page, where she will tell her friends about her exploits, will stop the authorities in their tracks. I despair of her.
We are supposed to be in for a very warm week from Tuesday, then it's all downhill to early snow in mid October...or so the forecasters are saying. I managed to get SIL to lift in my garden furniture and lawnmowers for me today....and pile me up lots of sacks of logs by the back door...at least a weeks supply. I really hate that I am having to ask for help. I am hanging off turning on the central heating yet, it's going to cost sooo much this time for oil....but it's cold in my bedroom in the middle of the night !
Isabella.

Isabella, I, too, hate to ask for help but think of it as a perk of getting on in age. My grandmother would get me up on ladders to fetch her sruff when she was only in her 50's. Go for it!!
I feel your pain about your DD. My DStep daughter OD'd in July. Very tough but I knew it would happen some time. She just could not learn what consequences mean.
