Bren - what a night you had!!! Yes...you must plan another celebration without a doubt.
Rosemary - beautiful baby! Thanks for sharing the picture.
-
Love your new grandchild Rosemary - very cute.
I'll post a pic of Alexander when we get home. We should hopefully see him before we leave tomorrow night - depends on whether our son can take us to the airport ie if the DIL doesn't put a spanner in the works as is her habit.
Just repacked the bags for the 5th time - all set to go home. We're going to fit in a visit to Hampton Court tomorrow as it is close (we can get a bus there) and what else can we do until 6pm.
Thanks for your well wishes girls - I did play up the sookie mummy a lot - hopefully our son will one day see sense and come home. He saw me crying when I was holding the baby at lunch today.
Time for bed - will check in with you in the morning
Sad Susie
BTW - I posted on the ILC forum a day or so ago - I often do post if I can help and have been thanked a lot for my advice/knowledge.
-
Have a calm day tomorrow Susie and a safe trip home.
-
Rosemary .. Daisy Elizabeth is just beautiful!
Susie .. I know how much you will miss your baby .. have a safe trip home.

Bren

Hey! I killed the thread again! I'm really good at that!
Mary
-
Nawwwwwww....I'll be it tonight. Watching the Emmys.
-
Neither one of you killed the thread tonight. I'm still here, for awhile anyway.
Bren, you most certainly qualify for a do-over. No doubt about it. Sucky evening, even though it sounds like things ended okay.
I will bet my next paycheck that Tim had a salivary duct blockage (as the ER docs suspected). Apparently, stones can form in salivary ducts; and when the stones block the flow of saliva, the salivary gland swells up and hurts like heck. This symptom is most likely to occur at mealtime, especially if something sour is being consumed (or, I suppose, if someone is eagerly anticipating the first bite of a wonderful meal). The symptoms can also be triggered by eating a pickle. If the stone doesn't obstruct the duct completely, then the swelling and pain can go away but will probably return with the next meal. There is one serious complication if the obstruction isn't removed: the salivary gland can get infected, which can be quite a mess.
Susie, travel safely. It's sad when you have to leave family so far away, especially when it's grandbabies that will grow like crazy while you're not watching. My dh takes every opportunity he can get to visit his son (my step-son) and daughter-in-law, so we can see our granddaughter. She's 5, going on 11 I think.
rosemary, what a cute granddaughter! I love the name "Daisy Elizabeth."
Hugs to everybody, and sleep well (except for those of you on the other side of the planet, who are wide awake by now).

OKAY------Here's your threadkiler_____ kad2kar. This thread, club{covert or otherwise} has had one very busy month and a half with, earthquakes, heat, humidity, hurricanes, trips all over the world and on this continent, job offers, engagements,BEAUTIFUL BABIES and you all still have time to frighten the poor souls who cant just say yes or no,but SCREAM,TEACHER,TEACHER, they are picking on me!!! I love you all and you have given so much to me without really realizing it. I suffer from a panic disorder and get really scared if we even go on the freeway short distances, so planes and trains, buses and boats scare me, so I reallly am living adventures through all of you. Just remain your beautiful selves. OH!<I forgot all the birthdays HAPPY!!HAPPY!!,even me 65 at the beginning of this month. Everyone sleep tight, and have a wonderful day tomorrow! BREN Im happy that MrTim is alright and you did have a memorable birthday, just not the memories you wanted all dolled up for the special occasion. LOVE&HUGS kad

kad2kar~
I thought I should post before I go to bed just so you don't think you killed the thread.
Good Night!

kad2kar -- Just wanted to make sure you weren't a threadkiller (!!!) and to say that your post really warmed my heart! I've had no babies of my own, but I take great pleasure in hearing of new grandbabies from our friends here. Love to hear about celebrations (even ones that end up in the ER!) and trips to Blue Sky country, and to my beloved UK and France.I've never wanted to belong to a cancer support group (meetings every week, dealing with discussion monopolizers etc.) and BCO has turned out to be the greatest asset for my own cancer journey. I love it when new folks join us here, and I cry when we lose dear friends like Konakat and Olga. Real life lives here, and I love being part of it.A belated happy Birthday to you, sent with many hugs!
-
Awwwww Bren, sorry your birthday did not go as planned..........you looked fab in those shoes tho, I agree you need another day out! Glad the hubs is okay tho.
Hillck.......congrats!!!
Rosemary........what a beautiful baby.
Had a great weekend up on the bay with friends, beautiful weather, got out for a nice ride in the boat and had dinner outside during a spectaculr sunset.
Got some really bad news from some dear friends, it broke my heart, I got all teary-eyed reading thier message. Thier 27yr old daughter has just been DX with cervical cancer, staging at stage 3 right now. She has had 3 blood transfushions between thurs and friday night and they want to start aggressive chemo and rads on tuesday. She has a 4 yr old son as well. I have known this beautiful girl since she was born and have been lifelong friends with her family. It just makes me want to cry. Please say a prayer for Amanda and her family.
Well, back to the grind in the morning! Goodnite all have a great Monday!
-
Oh, I'll do the honors myself. (Edited)

Hi kad2kar!
Yes, this is a pretty good bunch. I read a lot and don't post very often, but I've always been made to feel welcome when I do. I, too, live vicariously through the posts about world trips and grandbabies.

Sending hugs to kad2kar! Your message comes at a perfect moment for me and I thank you. Panic Disorder can be really disabling. No need to feed that beast, and it is great that you are able to get so much out of this crazy, wonderful thread.
I'm sure I'm the thread killer for tonight....
-
Oh no you're not Athena (threadkiller that is) - I lurk late at night but am usually too tired to think of anything to say - I know how mad you can get - I get that way too and am often heard cursing and snarling - hopefully tomorrow will be better.
-
kad2kar - thankyou for your kind words. These ladies are the best and I hope I can go on another long trip next year to meet them. Hugs to you all - you keep me sane - love you.
Sue
-
Susie, safe journey.
Rosemary, what an astoundingly beautiful baby! You are so lucky! I think it is too late for me to be a grandma. Waah. Taking 1/2 day today to chill with my BFF who arrvied yesterday.
-
Kad2kar, good morning, and thank you for your lovely words. Panic disorder is devastating, I know from a dear, dear friend who has been living with it for years. She's tried all the medications, and talk therapies, but still is confronted daily with terrors I can't even believe she can live with, but she does. We all are facing our own illnesses, I think those that attack the Self/psyche, like Depression, are more difficult to deal with than cancer. But that's just my opinion. I certainly don't mean to say that cancer isn't the Beast, but I always feel there are treatments we can try to stop it.
that being said, crazydaisy, I'm so sorry for your Amanda. I have a beloved "niece" who is not related to me by blood, and I worry for her as she's growing up in this strange time. I've always found my family in my friends, what I call my "family of choice" and I can so understand your pain as Amanda suffers. I'll probably get "slammed" for this, but I don't mean offense, I know when birth families work, they can be all the myth speaks of.
Off to classes - hope all have a wonderful day. Haven't read the paper yet, so maybe all is well in the world? Wouldn't that be a wonderful day. Peace.
-
kad2kar! So good to see you, and a happy belated birthday! I'm glad you like to visit us here. We do have fun and like to get silly, but there's some serious support going on here.
Crazydaisy - I'm so very sorry to hear about your beloved Amanda. So young for such a horrible disease. I will keep her in my thoughts and send all of the healing vibes I can to you and to her and her family. Please keep us posted?
Susie - you must be on your way to the airport now. Safe trip home!
Good morning all!
-
Good morning all. So nice to hear all the nice comments! I'm a little sore today so trying to relax. Ray is home this week so we may take a few day trips to go along with my Doctors' appointments.
-
I'm loving the nice comments too. It's a good way to start the week.
So here's my dilemma for this week: I have to learn espanol and I have four weeks to do it. Suggestions?
-
Well, there's the Italian Salute if someone gets you angry. The middle finger if you don't agree, and a big smile and head nodding for everything else!
-
BLue, sorry to hear you're not feeling great - hope having Ray's company all week will help!
Enjoyful, is there a Spanish "immersion" school near you - where all the classes are taught in Spanish? I think the Oyster School in DC is. You could go "assist" in the Kindergarden. Great way to pick up some phrases, the kids would teach YOU! meanwhile, you could help the teacher's assistant.
Where are you going in 4 weeks???
-
Sunflowers, that sounds like absolutely the best way to do it! I like Blue's way though, because it's short & sweet. ;-) I think it would take longer than four weeks to just go through the background checks necessary to work with kindergardeners.
I'm going to Colombia with my mother in 4 weeks, so I have to learn something quickly! I downloaded a Spanish speaking course from Amazon and am working with it. So far, I can ask people to speak more slowly, tell them I don't understand, and ask where the post office is. Woohoo! Hahahaha.
-
"Por favor" and "gracias" are also helpeful to know
-
E - I used the U of Chicago Spanish-English-English-Spanish dictionary a lot. Also, when asking folks to speak more slowly, I prefaced it with "my ears are really stupid" or some such joke, and they were always kind. It helps to know "what is this?" que' es eso?. I found that learning the words for who, where, when, how and how much were also helpful. I'm sure you'll run into many who habla Ingles.
Have a great time!!!
-
Thanks for the tips, guys! I'm going to have a dictionary glued to my hand. One of the phrases I've memorized is "Donde esta mi madre????" She may wander off!
