NYC Race for the Cure

Hey ladies,

I am training it into the city tomorrow for Sunday's Race for the Cure. I have loads of ambivalence about Komen and its big business pinkwashing, but at the same time, I just have to do it. Just wanted to let you all know I am running in honor of all of my BCO.gals - it's going right on my bib! (also writing "Screw Pink Ribbons - we need a CURE" on it, but that's another story).

Despite the craziness that pops up sometimes, this is an incredible community. I'll hold you amazing women in my heart as I wind my way through Central Park.

Good luck Janyce! I have only done shorter walks, but I always enjoy the support and love that is felt at these events. It is my belief that people really do care, they just sometimes don't know what to say or do.

Despite having a lot of bad feeling about pinkwashing, I was going to walk or run this year too.  I did it last year, and it buoyed me up to be with a whole big bunch of survivors.  Unlike the pink-labelled products, I don't see how any of all those people walking could be doing it for self-gain.

But ugg I have a fracture, no running or walking beyond what I have to do to care of stuff until at least mid-November.  Good luck.

hi ladies, i had you on my bibs! one bib said, "for all my gals at BCO.org" - then a memory one, which had my mother, my aunt, and some of the gals here (konokat and olga). THEN my favorite: "Screw pink ribbons - it's a CURE we need". my girlfriend looked a bit nervous about that one!

it was amazing to see so many survivors, and being in NYC always does me good (although reminds me how I miss it, even 10 years after I moved).

they give away so much crap, though: candy, cookies, cereal, gatorade. i couldn't help but wondering if all that effort for the "Survivors' Village" could be turned into something concrete for women.

anyway, you were all in my heart and in my mind. here's to another year of SURVIVING and THRIVING.

    xo
