#9 completed this evening.....24 to go. RO says my skin still looks great....like I have not had any treatments. I hope it stays that way!! He said I will have 25 regular and 8 "boosts" to the scar line. I didn't realize I was getting boosts........I just knew I had 33 treatments scheduled.
Janis, how's the pain? What did the dr say?
-
Janis....I hope and pray that the pain is better tonight...
-
Congratulations on finishing pat01!! That's awesome!

Hi everyone,
Well it was an interesting day. I went to rads and told the tech what was happening. She said there was no doctor in today, but after treatment she would have me see the nurse. So, talked to the nurse and she wrote down everything going on and said I had to go to the ER. She was very thorough but she said with radiating chest pain, even on the right side, they cannot rule out a cardiac event.
So off I went. They got me in right away, hooked me up to an EKG, did a chest x-ray and lots of bloodwork. The doctor came in and said all of my bloodwork and tests were normal, so it was not cardiac. She said the one thing she was concerned about was a blood clot. She ordered a CT scan. Had that done and more waiting. She finally came in and said that was normal. However, it showed I have two small nodules on my thyroid. Needless to say I was not real thrilled to hear that. She asked when I see my oncologist, told her tomorrow. She gave me a copy of the report and said to give it to him.
As far as the pain, there was an area of my lung that was irritated, but she also thinks i may have an inflammation of the tissue in my rib cage. Either way not serious so that is good to know.
They had me on Morphine when I was there so I came home and crashed on the couch. I just woke up. The pain is not too bad right now. More aching than sharp.
Thanks to all of you for asking and caring! I'll keep you all posted.
Hugs to all you brave ladies!
Janis

Pat, congratulations on being done! I remember that I felt more relieved than happy after my chemo was finished. In time, I hope you will feel genuine happiness.
MamaV: You really are getting close to being finished. So happy for you.
-
Yesterday was day one...and as I stared up at the machine, I kept saying over and over- merilee's healing light, merilee's healing light...thanks for the anchor, girlfriend, I guess I needed it. Today's day two went smoothly, also. 31 more to go, so I'm obviouslymoseying on over to the Sept rads page...
-
You're welcome jackifp, glad it helped. That was my intention.
-
After my bad day yesterday, I am hoping to get some answers from my RO today. I am so not happy with the unexplained pain. So going to rads in aa few minutes....# 12 today. Hoping he will talk to me about that pain, plus I am anxious to see what he wants to do about the nodules on my thyroid.
Have a good day everyone!
-
4 regular left then 5 boost. It is getting harder to walk through those doors everyday. Radiation is evil personified. And even though I am blistered and hurting there are so many much worse then me. I feel so guilty complaining. Today is the day I see the RAD DR. Maybe they can offer me something else to get thru this. So close and yet so far. I hope everyone else has a good day. Thinking of you all... lisa
-
Hi irw, I am 1 day behind you. I have 5 regular and 5 boosts to go. My only complaint was that last night I felt a little itchy, but I am ok this morning.
-
Hi Kate, so glad your doing well. I wish I could be doing the same. Hopefully it will go by quickly and we will all be better soon.... Off to Rads Take Care...
-
Just got back from rads, I finish the same time as you Kate 4 more regular then 5 boosts then otta there
cant wait to get back to my life
-
Kymn- so close, almost there
-
Irw333 it will go by quickly, and you will be feeling good once again. kymn yes we have the exact same schedule. I have rads this afternoon and then 4 regular and 5 boosts left. The hospital is only 6 blocks from my house so I walk there, but going every day is draining. We can celebrate together.
-
Feel better Janis.
So, the techs told me today (only on measly #3 today
) that everyone says "It went by so fast!" after they are all done. So? Is it true? Did it seem to go fast?
-
After talking to the Rad Dr. today I found out the hardness in my breast is edema (swelling) and can take months to go down. The bad skin reaction he thinks is from using the Aloe plant??? Bowed my mind.Seems to be what is making mine so painful. Anyway, The Dr. said I can quit tomorrow but my risk goes up if I do. That is one risk I am not willing to take unless I have to.. Your all right we are so close. Thanks all. I could not do this w/o you.
Everyone that is having problems I hope your feeking better soon....
-
Irw333 did your Dr. suggest anything in place of the aloe? There have been some good suggestions on this thread, natural and rx.
-
Irw- you have 8 to go now right? If I were you I would load up on sleeping and pain meds and just sleep as much as you can right now. Let your body heal while you rest. You are incredible brave to continue with this much discomfort. It is down right brutal! You are right about taking a risk on recurrence, believe me you do not want that! You might have to find your mean and ugly to get through this next week.
-
Yes 8 more. No he had no other suggestons. Other then the Aquafor and natural gel and the lidocaine I can still use. Kinda afraid to put on anything else. My skin looks bad. Merilee I am working on the mean and ugly. Happy to report that by in the morning they better all watch out....I am doing all I can do to get rid of this evil thing. You truly have to fight to win against cancer.. My mind is made up I will finish this d*** radiation or die trying. Merilee you continue to be an inspiration to so many. Thank you so much.
-
I just finished my 5th radiation now only 25 to go
-
I finished # 12 today. My skin is pretty red now, the RO prescribed Lidocaine to apply topically. I think ditching my bra is the best medicine. It has become very uncomfortable.
Pain was not bad today but still i got no diagnosis. RO just said he does not think whatever it was is related to radiation. Really? He scheduled an ultrasound for me tomorrow at 12:45. Just want to get a closer look at the nodes. I know thyroid nodes are almost always benign. Just more annoying than anything...more tests!
Irw333 I am so sorry you have reached such a bad level of discomfort. Get as much rest as possible. Hoping the last 8 aren't too hard on you!
Lynniea....celebrate the small victories! Five down is great.....every day you are closer to being done for good!
-
SAB - Yes...hard as it is to believe just starting out, it does go fast. I am down to 9 sessions left and I'm amazed at how quickly it is going.
lrw33 - I hope you're feeling better. Hard to believe that it would be the Aloe Vera that is causing your problems but maybe you are alergic to it.
jannis - sorry that you've been having so much pain and other complications. Sending you warm positive thoughts for good results.
lynnia - Yay! Like I said above...it really does go quickly once you've started. Keep lotioning up!
-
I had my 11th treatment today. I have 4 regular and 5 boosts to go. I am shocked that my skin is doing so well, because I am so very fair. So far, I've really not experienced any side effects other than my skin looking a little pink. My energy level is good too. I feel blessed. I am hoping that the boosts won't be bad either.
-
Finished my 5th treatment today. My skin is fine, but my breast feels really sore. Is this normal after so few treatments? My surgery was all the way back on July 22, so I don't think it's surgery related. I didn't really have any pain with the lumpectomy. Any input greatly appreciated.
-
Just found this group...started rads on August 29th...8 down, 27 to go !!!...will I ever get to the end of this ??? No skin problems yet but was told they are more visible about the 4th week...RO recommended aquaphor and clear aloe vera gel so I'm trying to apply those several times a day. I am 4 weeks PFC so I actually feel better than I have in a LONG time...hoping the fatigue won't be too bad !!!
-
This afternoon will be excatly 1/3 through.....11 of 33. I mentioned this board to my RO and told him how it is interesting how it seems everyone is getting different #s of treatments. He was very intersted and asked what site this was on. I think he'd like to pass the onfo on to other patients. I know the # of treatments we get is dependent on lots of factors: age, stage, grade, size of tumor, lumpectomy vs mastectomy, lymph node involvement, etc. Who else on here is getting 33, like me?
oh and I am not red at all. My armpit on that side aches a little, but no skin reaction at all yet. The RO and his nurse seemed surprised. I am putting the Radiaplex lotion on every night. Maybe I am just lucky.....it's about time! LOL! The fatigue has hit....I am tired every afternoon. Of course that could also be due to getting up at 6 and getting 3 kids off to school and then starting my daily activites (gym 3x/week, volunteering at schools, running errands, housework, etc). Then when kids start getting home, there's HW, dinner, church (Wed nights), cub scouts (Thurs nights). PHEW! I am tired now just thinking about it all! LOL!

Down to 9 sessions left after today! Yippeee!!! My skin is doing very well and I really hope that continues on through the remainder and after. I've been using something called Simply Aloe Vera Gel since the beginning and I also add Aquafor at night. Last night my skin looked pretty pink and this morning it is barely pink. Love it. Fatigue...that is another thing...not enough to knock me out but I am definitely feeling it. I'm ready for the weekend to rest up.
Sarabob - I am getting 33 treatments also. Originally I thought it was 35 so it was a pleasant surprise when I found out it was 33. Sounds like you are doing great so far. Keep slathering on that Radiaplex on.
Ceeztheday - I remember my first week I felt itchy and a little sore too. I was worried that meant it was going to be a tough time for me but that all went away for me. Every now and then I get those zingers of a sharp shooting pain but nothing too bad.
Kate - You're almost there! I'm so happy to hear how well it is going for you. I know you were worried about how your skin would hold up.
Is there anyone else on this board that also has TE (tissue expanders) in? Just curious and wondering how it is going for you.
-
Juliana I am glad you are doing so well. I am doing great again today. After today's treatment I will have 3 regular and 5 boosts to go. My only side effect is that at night my skin is pink. I wear udderly smooth during the day and aquafor at night. So far my energy level is good too. I have been weraring an underwire bra with no problems. I hope my skin does as well with the boost treatments.
-
Hi Ladies I just finished my 6th treatment now only 24 left. I just take one day at a time. I am doing well little pink they were surprised so early. With me nothing has been normal through all this. I am also doing lymphadema treatment so I can be fitted for my sleeve. I am planning to go to the Celebration of life at the hospital I go to.
-
Sarahbob, I'm tired just reading about your day! I too am having 33 treatments, I think 8 of them boosts. Only on #4 due to delays. Started out with redness because of infection, still red, no other problems. Using aloe and calendula.
