Just When I thought Things Are Better
Feeling so much better physically and emotionally since staying of Tamoxifen. DH and I were taking a walk home from the beach and suddenly my leg gives out from under me and I go down with excruciating pain in the outside and back of my knee. Could not even stand on it and walk another step forward. As painful as it was I didn't want to go to the emergency room right away so decided to ice it and if still bad in the morning I would go to the hospital. Mortal agony all night long so DH took me to emergency room this morning. I thought I might have a blood clot or something deep in my vein, They exrayed me and did doplar ultrasound. IT turned out to be a "baker cyst' he said the size of a lime in back of my knee. They sent me home with a soft support cast and a cane The doc told me to follow up with ortho tomorrow for possible artherscopic surgery, and physical therapy. I knew all summer the joint pain in my hip and knee were very painful, but since going off the tomoxifen and seeing a chiropractor, my hip pain has been resolving, and I've been feeling so good about it and getting back into walking, even though my knee has been having issues all summer.
Has anyone experienced thr pain of "baker cyst" ?

Barb, this sounds horrendous! So sorry. Never had anything like this, but I bet somebody will come along soon who will have had a "baker cyst."It's kinda late now, but I bet you will have some useful feedback tomorrow. I am going to google it right now.
This business of owning and maintaining a body gets to be a nuisance sometimes, tho the alternative isn't great, either.

i had a bakers cyst behind my left knee. it was very painful, and just seemed to come out of nowhere. my mother also had the condition,
i kept using ice...and eventually it went away. well, it probably doesn't really go away; but the symptoms eventually ceased withoout medical intervention. same thing with my mom'; eventually it resolved.
sorry you are dealing with this; hopefully you will feel better soon*

I have had no experience with baker's cyst but want to give you a cyber hug. (((Barb)))

I met with the orthopedic docs today. after looking at the x rays they said my knee is really in good shape and not much degeneration at all. ( whew!! so glad) The pain is coming from what they think is a tear in the meniscus and the pressure and swelling inside from the large size baker cyst. I will go next week for an MRI to see how large the tear is which will determine if I need artherascopic surgery

I'm sorry Barb...when it rains it pours doesn't it. I hope things get better soon but I am glad to hear it's nothing more serious (we all know what I mean) and it's treatable. Bigs hugs going your way.

I am so sorry to hear this. If it's not one thing its another.................. Hopefully it will resolve soon and that you get some pain relief. (((HUGS))) Jenn

Gack! That sounds painful Barb!!!! I had to go to the ER several months ago for leg pain that I thought was a blood clot too (in my thigh) but they couldn't find anything. So weird!
I sure hope they can do something non invasive for you.
(((Hugs)))
