Janice, I don't think I have seen too many bucking dressage horses.
-
Love the horse pics. Wish they were bigger!
-
Rosemary - cats are too funny. It took Cody and Sadie about 2 weeks before they would be in the same room. They rarely spend time together as Cody would much rather snuggle up with the dogs. I hope Bubba and Baxter become really good friends.
Anne - on the calendar issue all I can say is WOW!!!
I have seen limited TV on the Irene coverage and the devastation as I haven't been home much but what I have seen is just devastating. I have HLN on right now to get the latest updates but probably will need to switch over to CNN.
Sunflowers - I wish we had such a program here. We do have farmer's markets every weekend which I go for fresh produce but to go out and pick the crops? I would just love to do that.
Pip - Jazzy is just full of piss and vinegar. If anything she is making me a much better rider as she is so difficult at times. I am working on taking all of that "energy" and have it work for us in a positive manner. It took some time but Jazzy and I have a wonderful rider/horse bond going. At any time she could dump me in the ground but she doesn't want to - she is now protecting me so I have more trust in her. Maybe she figured out that when I broke bones she would have to deal with the trainer working her instead of me.
I am going to finish cleaning my house this morning and then head out to check on my horse.
-
Jancie, your horse is so beautiful. Looks a bit on the spunky side. Be careful!!
Rosemary, Bobba and Baxter will be fine before long. My Murphy and Miko never really seemed to get along--mostly because Miko was such an alpha cat and Murph was passive. But they did hang together alot, and Miko has seemed so lonely without Murphy. I think I'll go to the Humane Society today and start looking for a buddy. The intorduction/acceptance process can certainly take time. You know, I get allergic to some cats, but not all. really weird.
-
Janice, it is so true. My daughter loved getting a horse full of piss and vinegar. You certainly do learn a lot when your life is at stake! Me...I'd rather watch someone else ride the horse full of piss and vinegar. Very entertaining, but a true art for the one who can master the beast. I don't think most people understand how good you have to be to do dressage. You riders make it look so easy.

Maybe there IS a CSA near you????? http://www.localharvest.org/csa/
I find it valuable. AND, a good way to get as close as possible to the production of our food. We have Farmer's Markets all over - most of the CSA Farms also participate in the markets. But buying a "share" in a farm, means taking the risk with the farmers. During the year we had the tomato blight ( think it was 2 years ago) it meant, no tomatoes. They had to be plowed under. They were still available in stores, if anyone wanted to buy them from other parts of the country, but not in the farm share.
Don't know if you are familiar with the book: Animal. Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver. It's interesting. I could never do what she & her family did, but loved reading about it. Also, Mark Bittmann has written quite a bit about the topic. Also, of course, the GURU of all, Alice Waters.
I love the Alice Waters book In the Green Kitchen: Techniques to Learn by Heart. I expect most know what's in the book, I didn't .

I understand why they are callous about FEMA ... I don't like it but I 'get' their mindset ... it is becoming more obvious every day. They don't believe in 'community' or helping your fellow man. They want every man for himself, dog eat dog, survival of the fittest. The sick and the poor and the unlucky should just suffer and even die silently and not ask for any help from them ... be it FEMA or healthcare. (With exceptions for when something affects them personally of course ... then they are right there grabbing everything they can get whether they need it or not.) What a bleak, ugly, cruel country they would create. But they expect to be on top of the heap so they don't care. It makes me sick.
And since this hurricane hit the northeast instead of the south where their supporters tend to be they feel free to crap all over this disaster.
This hurricane caused so much damage over such large areas it's hard to tell from the news coverage exactly where all the damage is. Multiple towns flooded and roads completely gone ... it is horrible and way beyond the ability of any local community to deal with on their own. Glad to hear from Sunflowers that FEMA is stepping up to the plate and getting relief to people quickly!
Cats are contrary creatures sometimes
My mother did not particularly like cats but we always had them because I did. And yes ... almost every cat we had would insist on being her buddy. The won her over in the end though so I guess they knew what they were doing.Hope everybody has a good day!
-
Jancie .. your Jazzy is a beautiful horse ... and so big! I'm afraid to ride now, ever since my sis' horse started to jump while I was riding him. Scared me to pieces. I'd only ever ridden Western, so the English saddle was new to me too.
hugs,
Bren

Jancie ... I know nothing about horses and have enjoyed reading your posts about yours!
This thread moves so fast ... I can't keep up with everybody quickly enough to comment but it is always a treat to come read what everybody has to say.
-
I will try to figure out how to post pics of our miniature horses. That is all we have left now.
-
WR -- It's inherent in cats to be idolized. When they are not, it's an affront, and must be corrected! My neighbour in Toronto was fearful of cats, and of course when she came over, they gravitated to her, rubbing up against her legs and meowing "Why don't you like me? I'm so beautiful? I'll win you over somehow!" And they did!PiP -- There is a family here that breeds mini horses and they are always in the Santa Claus Parade, with antlers and blankets sporting their names -- Donner, Blitzen etc.! They are so, so adorable! Would love to see pics of yours!
-
I love miniature horses!!! I didn't know you had them, PiP!
Jancie -- not only is Jazzy beautiful, but you look like a goddess in that picture with her! Really gorgeous.
Artsee -- I love your paintings!
WR, I know what you mean about the thread moving so fast... (and somehow, I'm moving very slowly! Maybe because I was up so late -- hi Cherryl!)
Good to see you, navygal!
Rosemary, glad that Bobba and Baxter seem to be thawing a bit! (or is that cooling down?) -- and Anne, good luck at the Humane Society!
Waving to Bren, Sunflowers, SusieQ, DuckyB, Athena, HillCK, Otter, Lewing, Enjoyful, Sandy, Lindasa -- and HappyLibby for when you peek in!
And anyone I didn't name! (having a flashback of the end of "Romper Room" on TV when I was 5 -- who remembers that?!)
-
Okay, you have motivated to me. When dh is able I will have him show me how to post pics.
-
Jancie, I agree with Ann, great picture! And PiP is correct in saying that people have no clue how good a rider you must be to do dressage well.
Hi Navy! Well, back to work.
-
I'm having a nice hot cup of coffee from the Bar&Grill. Would probably be even better with a shot of Kahlua in it! It's been a frustrating day for me. This whole website thing is making me so upset. I can't figure anything out! I'm not going to try to create my own again .. been there done that. When Tim called I was about in tears. He has a close friend who does websites and he said he'd talk to him this weekend when he gets home. He told me to just let it go for a few days.
It couldn't believe how much it can cost. Anywhere between $700 and $2,500. I need the site to be searchable so people looking for transcription work can find me. arghh. My target group is psychologists who do psycho-ed testing, although I can do most any kind of medical transcription.
Oh well .. hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
hugs,
Bren
PS .. Ann .. love all the "romper room" hellos!
-
Pip .. I wanted to tell you that if you have a Facebook account, it's very easy to post pics here. Just post the pic on FB, then right click on the picture and copy it. Then you right click in this message box and hit paste. Your pic will just copy directly from FB.
If you don't use Facebook, you'll need to use Photobucket or a website like that. You download the pic off your computer to Photobucket, then copy the IMG code onto the little tree icon above this comment box.
Let me know if you need more help.
Bren

Bren, did you google "Build a free website"?
-
I don't have a facebook account. I use a mac so I expect there is an easy way to post pics. My dh is putting down a new floor in his office. I am going to feed him some pizza (my way of cooking) and then get him to do it for me.
-
Hi Blue .. I used godaddy last year and built a website, but for some reason it didn't show up on google. Even when I bought the ads thing. I finally just gave up. But my family has been pushing me to try again, and I need someone to do it for me this time so it will show up on google.
It's just beyond my expertise. And it's incredibly frustrating.
Pip .. Pizza sounds good! Hope your DH can figure out how to do the pics with a Mac .. it's way beyond me!
-
I think all things computer work better if you have a teenager in the house. They can do all sorts of magic in no time at all. Maybe you could import one Bren?
-
Dh is a computer programmer. He had better know how!
-
Lassie .. that's what I need ... a teenager! Ha! My son, while no longer a teenager, could probably figure it out .. he's really, really smart, but he lives so far away. Hopefully, I can get to San Diego in October and maybe he can help me then.
Pip .. I'm sure your DH can figure it out.
hugs,
Bren

Hi all! Been a while since I checked in. Found out I now have mets to my adrenal gland. Can't even begin to tell you what a nightmare the symptoms of that have been!. My husband's typing for me, can't do it anymore. Hope everyone is well. Wish I felt good enough to keep up with everyone. Hope to feel well enough soon to come back and find out what's going on in everyone's lives.
-
Gracie, so sorry to hear that. I hate this friggin disease!
-
Gracie .. I'm so happy to see you. And I'm so sorry about the mets on your adrenal gland. That sucks big time. I wish you felt better too, but I'm glad your hubby was typing for you.
hugs and love,
Bren

The thing about cats may be us misunderstanding them. I read somewhere that direct eye contact from a stranger is considered aggression, so they'll be more likely to gravitate to that nice polite stranger who isn't staring at them. LOL
-
Gracie, missed you and sending warm gentle hugs your way.
Riley, I love cats because they are a mystery to me.
-
Oh, Gracie, I'm so sorry! I missed you too. Did you lose mobility? But I won't ask - more work for your dh, who must be tired already, though nothing like you ((((Gracie)))) - this horrid disease!
Bren - I am not clear on one thing - are you creating the web site so as to advertise your services? If so, could it be just as good to place ads in certain well chosen sites, like the APA, etc....? Excuse my ignorance if I'm missing something. Sorry that you have gone through such hell. (((Bren)))
I finally see signs of autumn. How refreshing. This summer was not good to me. The heat and sun and my meds most definitely do not like each other.
-
Athena .. that's a great idea .. thanks!!!
Bren
-
Oh Gracie, that really does suck. (((Gracie)))
