Well, surprisingly I'm still here - W-a-a-a-y past my bedtime cuz I'm freaking out even we're gonna get hit by Irene on Sunday.  80 mile per hour winds are probably enough to LIFT my little cabin off the hill it's perched on - "Hey, Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore!"  Really, friends are busy trying to get fruit off trees, tomatoes off vines, and the ground is so wet from the HUGE boomer rain storm we had tonight, there are already puddles in the fields.  We all use well water, so no electricity, no water.  Interesting times....

Connecticut, Rhode Island are supposed to get hit much harder than we are.  Can't imagine what New York City will do - subways?  Hudson, East River - Battery Park?  I lived in NYC for years, can't remember ever having a hurricane tho.   AnnNYC - hope you're going NORTH west for the weekend.

It's always difficult to weigh the probabilities against the possibilities when it comes to a weather event.  Yesterday we in southern Ontario were under a tornado watch and I was glued to the weather channel, wondering if I should bring in the deck furniture and the potted plants!  Or if we should all hang out in the basement until it was over.  So.......it finally rained, heavily, and the lightning was like nothing I've ever seen before, but no tornado.

All this to say that the weather folks would rather us over-prepared than under-prepared, and hurricanes are notoriously unpredictable -- losing speed, changing direction etc.  So, let's hope that Irene goes out to sea where she can dissipate respectably, and everyone can enjoy their vacations, save their fruits and veggies, and maintain electrical power!

Don't give up on me......I haven't been around much.  Tomorrow is "get ready for horse show day" so I will be gone at least 12 hours.  Saturday I have to get up at 5:30 am - will be crawling back around 5 pm.  Ya'll have a great weekend and I will check in when I can.

LOVE the picture of the litty!

    'Morning all.

Rosemary - when I see (domestic) kitties I think are sweet, I call them litties - or littie lats - even if they are sizeable felines such as yours. And I think others have caught on - lol!

Barbara, hang in there. I hope you slept a bit more last night.

HL - Hope that YOU slept well too and are a bit more comfortable.

If I ever join FB I think I will do it as a lioness. I still might get friend requests from other plains dwellers, but, oh well....

Morning all. Yes, Athena, I did sleep. I guess the old bod just sleeps when it must. I am going to try the valerian root. Well, today is only 1/2 day then the 7.5 hour trip home begins. Ugh.

Hope everyone has a great day and sending gentle hugs to HL.

    Morning Everybody!

Ang .. so sorry your trip has been canceled.  Maybe we'll get lucky and Irene will turn east and miss the Outer Banks.

Barbara .. glad you were able to sleep last night .. know you have a grueling day of travel ahead of you today.  Going from the west coast to the east coast is a hard trip, as I've done it many times.  I've even had two layovers in the past, which made it even worse.

Jancie .. good luck at the horse show!!

Athena .. I think there's room for a lioness on FB!

Sewingnut ... That Ohio storm did blow through here last night, and it was a doozy!  The house was rattling from all the thunder and lightning.  We sure did need the rain!

I'm on my way to Roanoke today to have lunch with my sis.  Yay for me!  Can't wait to show her the pics of our weekend at NOTL.

Hope everyone has a good day,

    Bren

Baxter is a gorgeous kitty!! I want his twin!!!

Hoping Irene will veer out to sea. Or make a hard west turn and come OUR way. Lots of states here could use the rain and cooler temps...

My "Boulder in the Buff" calendar makes its debut tomorrow. I think I'm the cover girl...we'll see where this 15 minutes of fame takes me. But I'm not counting on getting a call from Hugh Heffner!

Cover Girl Anne!!  Way to go!

I'm on hurricane evacuation duty today so will be gone from 1:30 to 8 or 9.  My Aunt lives on the Delaware coast and my Mom on the Chesapeake Bay.  We're more inland so they'll stay with us.  Hurricane Party!

    Ang7 -

I bought coffee and cookies!  We're already stocked on batteries, flashlights and toilet paper.  Throw in some coffee and cookies and we're good to go.

    Stay safe, everyone!

Cake!  It's not a party without cake!  And icecream in case you lose power.  You will have no choice but to eat it.  Wouldn't want it going to waste!

Yeah, Hurricane parties - we have a friend here who lives "off the grid" in a wonderful big house - so we can all go there - not as much fun as it is in the Ice Storms - she has a huge masonary wood burning stove - but still fun. And flushable toilets :)  Tho with expected 10 inches of rain, 100 mph wind gusts - will wait til the trees have done their "dancing" b4 venturing out!  Seems the "eye" of Irene will be going directly over western MA - so our "danger" will be falling trees, which are a bit easier to avoid than tidal surges!!!!  Hope all on Coast are battened down if they're staying.

Anne - Good for you "Cover Girl" but honestly wouldn't you rather have anyone OTHER than Hugh Hefner (Ewwwww) calling you?

E - yes, ice cream and cake definitely and coffee and cookies and......

HL - hope you're feeling a little better today.

Barbara - glad you're getting out of OK and hope you get a good trip home and get there on time as I hear they're delaying flights all over the place.....

Anne ... our very own celebrity pinup girl!!!

E ... don't you live close to that wonderful cake place?  I think Mom and Aunt should buy you one of those cakes as rent.

Barbara ... glad your 'hell week' is almost over

Sending hugs to Libby ... this has got to be the hardest part going on right now.

LOL ... I can see it now.  Niagara Falls in sparkly dress, sparkly shoes and a sparkly tiara for added punch.  And of course a big flashy diamond necklace too ... must pop with diamonds or you are nobody dawling.   hahahaha

Actually, WR, we have a lady in town who does dress up like that every day -- to the post office, to the grocery store, to the liquor store.  She is always colour-co-ordinated though!

My fault, Pony -- I told everyone to come dressed for comfort.  it was a hot day -- too hot for sparkles!

Actually, Linda, you told us what we wanted to hear. I don't own anything glitzy, not even close to trying out to be a fashion icon, and am quite happy with life that way.

I wore lipstick once. It wore off even without a trip over the Falls.

Lipstick and I don't get along.  It would make me want to jump *INTO* the falls!

Well I was gonna wear my Scarlet O'Hara outfit, but Linda said "No"!  I had to leave all that glitz behind, but I did wear it when I got home.  Get's a little hot it the summer but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

Blue - if you'd worn your Scarlett outfit, there would have been no room in the group photo for the rest of us!  (And that's the REAL reason I said No to Scarlett!)

And I always thought the whole point of Freaky Town was that there were no rules.  How disappointing to hear that you must be a fashion conformist even there.  Tongue out

Well .. I confess to being a girly girl.  I did my nails and toes before my lumpectomy.  I think I even wore foundation makeup and blush .. but no mascara!

Pony .. I love San Fransciso ... great city!

Lassie .. You crack me up!

Anne ... Can't wait to see your calendar.

Had a wonderful lunch with my sis .. she's great fun.

It's starting to cloud up here, but we only have a 30% chance of rain, so I think Irene is going to scoot east of us.  Not that I wanted a hurricane, but I sure do want some more rain!

Oh .. I heard from Enjoyful that Libby will be in the hospital at least one more day.  I think that 20 hour surgery knocked the crap right out of her.  That's a very long time to be under general anesthesia.

    Hugs to all,

    Bren

PS .. Can't help it .. I love my lipstick .. must have at least three colors in my purse at all times!

A new voice on the "evil thread" - are we no longer GP's?  heck, I haven't even decorated my scooter yet!  Weeeeel, fashion last for me, comfort first, and then somehow fashion always catches up with me.  Rather fun - I remembe my friends laughing hysterically at Annie Hall - teasing me I must have been the "costume designer" - never wore that hat again.

ANNE - our cover girl!!!!  Can't wait to see - will we be able to buy it online?

    Enjoyful - happy baking.  Chocolate?
