Oh Ducky you crack me up. Hey W_R good to 'see' you here.
So I made it to OK after not one stop but two stops so today I have gone from Tampa to New Orleans to Dallas to Tulsa. Ugh.
-
Brick buildings don't hold up well in earthquakes..all fall down...
and they can happen anywhere ...
-
Barb - If I knew you were going to be in Tulsa I would have had my DD#2 meet you. You would like her as she is a whole lot like her mother.
River Rat - love the idea of throwing the laundry at the cobwebs in the stairwell. Our washer and dryer are upstairs and now that it is just the 2 of us and our bedroom is downstairs, we are carring dirty laundry up the stairs and clean laundry down the stairs. My DH now carries everything both ways.
ducky - don't you just love grandchildren! They tell it like it is.
When the earthquake happened I was out on the back porch painting some more gnomes and I knew exactly what is was so I just kept painting and thought if it lasts more than a minute or gets worse I will go on outside. Daisy the dog was scared and wanted to get in my lap so I wound up with green, red, blue and yellow paint all over me as she dumped the paint pallet all over me! After it was all over I gave her a bath since she had paint all over her too and I cleaned up the mess and went back to painting. My paint clothes now have more color to them. I look more like a hippie than I did in the 60's! My DD#2 texted me to be sure we were okay and said they did not feel anything in OK which is a good thing since they sit on a fault line there.

glad you were ok AJ. when mur got home 1st thing he told me his si was ok. she's in Raleigh also. then he asked about you...
we look like we're missing the worst of Irene here. but, we lose our electric at the drop of a hat here. so, we got water, and another battery fan, and whatever batteries were left... i guess we'll just wait, and pray it doesn't turn in a little... 3jays
-
hey Barbara; we said we've given up our "wicked ways" but i must say: you still get around!!hahaha....3jays
-
Thank goodness the hurricane is veering east. Well for Florida, not so much North Carolina. Prayers going up for SV. I really hopes she evacuates, as it looks like a direct hit to Duck.
I was really worrying they would cancel my flight back on Friday. They may still do it. Fingers crossed.
-
Welcome River_Rat! (and anyone else I've missed)
Glad to know all are ok from the earthquake back east; hope that the hurricane misses & causes no damage. 3jays I surely hope you are ok. AJ, how nice of you to offer refuge..
BarbA, I hope your trip is easier than you anticipate, and that you're able to fly home with no trouble.
AJ you were talking about your gnomes and the other day I ran across an article that said bottle trees are becoming fashionable - you can even order them pre-made or customized. Hah! Does anyone else remember bottle trees?
-
L_C, you mean these?
-
Good one Barb. "Ah've never seen such a thang."
-
BarbA- where is that forest? I told DH, and the man's never noticed a bottle tree in his life..
"a what-tree?"

Hey Ladies.............I think we are getting whacked..............no shore for me this weekend........my daughter layed down the law....................they are saying possibly a Cat 2 for NJ, and 10+ inches of rain..................My son called me last night and said "Mom are you going to the shore this weekend"........I said, ";yea on Thursday"............He said "well you might want to think again about that"...........I said "why is it going to hit there".................He said "well according to my I phone, and noaa.gov.................the H in hurricane is right over your house"...........guess who isn't going to the shore..............everyone crapped out, so another boring weekend in Pa...............shit, now where is that Vodka again..................
-
Ducky, you crack me up! Yes, might just be a good weekend to stay inland and major in vodka. Sounds good to me.
Barb, I hope SV will evacuate too. I saw on the news tonight that they're already doing a mandatory evacuation of Ocracoke Island.
Don't know why, but we seem to be the only people in NC who didn't feel the earthquake. Even our neighbors felt it, but we didn't feel a thing. Maybe it was one of those times when GS was tearing through the house pushing his truck, I don't know. My DH said we should just tell people we live in an earthquake-proof house.
Kathy
-
Well, we FL folks felt nada also.
Ducky, sorry about the weekend but better home than there.
-
People in Colorado got a jolt too..
-
Barb, guess that's right...............however we might run down Friday morning to secure the patio furniture, and the grill................my son insists...............the back of my house is mostly glass, that looks out over the pool, so he thinks the chairs could become missiles...............and the grill could end up in the pool..................Can you believe this shit............first flooding rain, then an earthquake, and now a hurricane..............I have a sign in my kitchen that says............Jesus is coming............and is he pissed...................I'm beginning to believe my sign.
-
i also, am praying sv wakes up, and evacuates. id feel better if AJ goes elsewhere , too.. any news from her about her plans? chrissy was coming in in New York, and going to duck, so her plans very well may change, too its a cat 4 poss. 5 at places. really scarey. we sat out andrew in Daytona. but, wilma was bad enough!prayers going up for everyone, candles being lit for others.......3jays
-
My brother lives in Virginia near Williamsburg. They are well prepared with plenty of supplies including fuel and boards for the windows for their whole house generator but he is worried about this one. He and my SIL are Red Cross first responders and have already been given their assignments. My prayers are with them and all our sisters in the path.
-
My prayers are with all in the path of the hurricane. I also hope SV evacuates. Her house is maybe 2 feet above sea level and the surge is supposed to be 9-11 feet. Her apartment is ground level and her Dad's/brother's is up one level.
-
Best wishes to all our east coasters. Stay safe everyone. Hoping SV evacuates, too.
-
Hi Ladies............Here we go again...................another thunderstorm.........it looks like the beginning of "hell" here right now, and the skies are ready to open up..............Where the hell was this wet weather when my son put in the whole garden in front of my house............we waited from Dec. till spring to do a landscaped garden in the front of the house, and we went immediately into the 90's everyday for a month..............no rain.................hosing doesn't help, so of course eveyrthing began to die...................well now the frigging rain, when I don't need it, and its not helping one damn bit with the trees, and shrubs ............I am so pissed...............this was not a cheap job..............hopefully there is still life left in some of the plants.......oh well...............another rain soaked day in "our town"............just outside Philly..............
-
I am in Tulsa and they had no rain for over 45 days...unheard of. I just had dinner with friends who usually have a backyard oasis, which is barely alive. So sad. But they did get some rain the past two weeks but not nearly enough. OK and TX are really hurting for rain.
-
Barb.............wish I could send you some of ours........13.10 as of this afternoon, and it rained again tonight ..............and is going to rain again in ab out 2 hours.....................and will get close to 12 inches when Irene hits Pa.................worse in NJ.................probably a direct hit for my "shore house"....................
-
Hey there everyone, SV has an open invitation to come her with her 2 dogs and stay as long as she heeds. I hope she comes here. She has a cousin in Kinston, NC, but I think her Dad and brother will be going there and I know she does not want to be where they are so maybe she will come here. I will let you all know if she comes. Chrissy was not due to fly into Raleigh until the 9th so Irene should be gone by then and if SV is still here we will all head back down there together if we can otherwise we will just stay here and visit. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. I grew up on the gulf coast so we are well prepared for whatever Irene has to throw at us. For now we are all safe and have all the precautions in place. Just waiting for Melissa, SV, to make the decission to come here.
-
hey gals.. so glad to hear from you, amy jo.. if you say you;re ok, than i am. SV has posted on FB that none of them are going to evacuarte.. it was nice of you to offer her and the furbabies a place. she's so lucky to have a friend like you; and so silly NOT to take you up on your offer.
my prayers will be with all of you. we have frineds in ny; and family in philly..some in nj, also. its' usually therm worrying about us. we'll get the rains, etc. some time tommorrow. i'll have to put my little boy on benedryl. he's so afraid of rain. otherwise, were gonna miss it all. thank you God!!!...............3jays
-
your right 3 jays......you always get the hit.................good for you this time................hoping for the best for my Pa. home which I will be in (actually I'm going to my daughters) just up the road.....not to be alone in my house................but my shore home is probably going to be destroyed................its right in the path of the hurricane................and heaven knows what will happen to the inground pool............oh well, its all only bricks and mortar............my town in NJ is a ghost town ..............everyone left..............according to the emails I'm receiving.............
-
I live just outside of Boston and it looks like we're going to take a hit. I'm planning to ride out the storm with my 92 year old Dad and one of my DBs who lives with him. I only live 3 miles away, but I live alone and I know my Dad will feel better having his one and only DD home under his watchful eye. Besides it's no fun riding out a big storm all alone. I had enough of that this past winter.
In all seriousness, I just find it so hard to believe that we've been watching this thing approach for days, people know major flooding and storm damage is going to occur and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. It's like being tied to a train track, watching the train approaching you from miles away, and there's no escape.
-
I hear you Hauntie. I know the feeling well. I felt that way when I evacuated for Charley. It looked like it was going to be a direct hit to Tampa Bay. That would have caused more destruction that Andrew caused. But we lucked out when he hung a right and bammed Punta Gorda. So sorry for them. It was years cleaning up the destruction.
-
All you girls in harms way, I am praying that you are spared too much destruction nad you all come through safe and sound. I've been watching it's progress on the weather channel and I'm hoping it starts to turn before it hits land.
Love , hugs and prayers coming you way. Chrissy
-
I just got back from a walk on the beach. The ocean was so calm. It just doesn't seem possible that it is going to turn so violent over the next couple of days.
-
Hauntie, i'm so glad you're all "hunkering down" together for the storm. we're all in agreement that it may still change its' course. im from Natick. its' so strange to hear you guys getting one. im "used" to it here, in so. fla., but never imagined one there. be well...what you see now is the very calm before the storm..they can be very eerie.......God Bless You All; as we watch,, and wait.........3jays
