Wow Paula! How cruel. What the heck is wrong with people! Weren't we all pretty much raised that if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything?
-
It was my 16 year old son that convinced me it was time to ditch the wig and go "topless". I had been doing it at home, grocery store, etc., but not at work yet. I was about 14-15 weeks PFC. He just said "Mom, you look awesome and that wig can't be that comfortable. Who cares what anyone else thinks . . . go for it!! I went to work the next day wigless, with butterflies in my stomach. Once I walked in the door and saw that people still treated me as the same old "Kathy", I was so relieved. Never put it on again! So I say to all those considering going topless, just go for it!
-
I must be lucky. I have yet to have people say anything but really nice things… and like I said some are from people that know but most are from people who have no idea what's going on. Maybe I have that look that I don't take crap from anyone. I must intimidate idiots.
-
Paula, your co-worker's comment was uncalled for, but your response "I'm trying to attract love from all quarters" gave me a good laugh!

yet another ques on hair regrowth!!!-finished tc chemo mid nov-hair started regrowing early march last and have more or less a full head of peach fuzz now maybe 2 inches long BUT hair at crown very thin-front, back and sides REALLY very thick but the crown now looks BALD in comparison-REALLY greatful its growing back BUT....wondering if shld just wait to let nature take its course and crown will grow back or try regaine or something to help it grow-anybody any ideas?
-
Hair update....I'm getting bangs!! Finally!!!
-
Marjie, you look beautiful!
I was out grocery shopping one day last summer, wearing my wig, when I bumped into an old friend. I hadn't seen him since starting treatment, and he did a double take when he saw me. He said "you look great, that hair suits you. You seriously should think about wearing it like that when you get your hair back" Then he winked and said "I bet P(my dh) really likes it too". Men!
-
Marjie - your hair looks great. I'm still going through chemo but finish in 5 weeks - yipee!
How long has it taken your hair to get that length?
Does rads have an affect on growth?
-
Yay Marjie - beautiful!
I'm 7 weeks PFC today and my eyebrows are back in full force! Even had to pluck a few! Eyelashes are very full, but short - maybe about 1/4 original length but getting there. I actually put on mascara today
Hair on top though SLOW!!!!
-
marjie you look beautiful.
We really do have the same hair right now. Texture is very similar. I used to have very straight hair but now the slight wave/curl is something I don't really know how to deal with. Mine is just a little longer on top and shorter on the sides/back. Bangs seem to be taking forever so I just brush mine to the side. Yours look good that way. Mine need to be much longer to brush forward.
-
marjie, your hair is adorable!
-
Margie you look great! How far out are you? Just curious.
-
Marjie, You hair does look fab!
I noticed a few stray eyebrow hairs this morning, but not much where they "should" be. Ksmatthews, I think we are about the same PFC six weeks? After looking very closely, I do have some shorter eyelashes, but very difficult to see. I tried some mascara with short bristles, and maybe I got a few....

Margie, your hair looks great!!
I am 6 month PFC and had my first trim or should I say, a snip here and there on Monday. My hair is very thick and curly on top, straight and thinner on the sides with cow licks everywhere. I have attempted to style it using the blow dryer and letting it air dry with gel in it. If I blow it dry, it stands straight up on top and looks like a mullet. Gel makes it even more curlier (on top) which looks funny with hair on the side of my head being stick straight. Glad I like my wig because it looks like I will be wearing it for a while. Before BC, I had very straight hair with no cow licks. Very thankful that I have no bald spots. A co-worker who is 3 years out has a large bald spot with very fine thin hair.

Whoops, I thought my hair was growing back since my FEC but tomorrow is my 2nd Taxotere and it's falling out again. It's okay though. I know I can do it. One more Taxotere after tomorrow and then my hair will grow back. It's mostly white with bits of brown here and there - same was it was before it fell out. I can do it
!!
-
sweetcorn yes I am 6 weeks out. I did notice this morning that my eyebrows are shedding
I thought I was gonna at least get lucky there. I have hair coming in, but not as much as I would like to have.
-
ksmatthews - The eyebrows and lashes really ticked me off because I thought I had managed to get by without losing them only to have them disappear after treatment was over. But I will say they came back in very quickly. I used "Anastasia" brow powder and you really couldn't tell that they were gone. Also helped to fill as they came back in because the hairs are so short at first. Definitely made it bearable!
-
Marje You look beautifull!!!!! x
-
I am 9 weeks PFC. This week I have gone out twice without having to "DRAW" on my eyebrows! YEAH! They are coming in fast and nice and dark. My wig has great long bangs to help cover the outer edges where they are still the most sparse.
Eyelashes...I had to get the magnifying glass out last week to see teeny-tiny hairs beginning to emerge from my upper lids. I had 4 long lashes left, but lost all but 1 of those last week in anesthesia/surgery. They have grown a little but longer this week, but definitely not long enough to use mascara yet.
Patience, patience, patience on the eye lashes!!! Celebrating the brows!!! Now if the HAIR would just DARKEN up and GROW, GROW, GROW!!!
-
cli1, what sort of chemo did you have? You could try Rogaine but I don't know if it will work. Try Nioxin shampoo and biotin vitamin too.
-
Hi Racy-thanks for the reply-it was TC chemo-had read about rogaine but people seemed to be using it thro chemo rather than when hair was growing back? will give it a go-presumably biotin ok with aromasin and being oestrogen positive?
-
KSteve the eyebrow thing is really ticking me off too, I think this is going to be worse than losing my hair.
-
Marjie, Your hair looks sooooo good. You look beautiful!!!!
-
Thanks everyone - jeeze someone is going to have to deflate my big head now LOL!!
I am about 6 months PFC ....I don't think radiation slowed down the growth at all, but I think the herceptin treatments slow it down a bit. We are all so different, but it's really not growing anywhere near as fast as it did pre-cancer. My lashes and brows have definitely thinned out quite a bit again but at least they are still there!
Except for the weird colour and all the grey....my hair seems to be much thicker and healthier than it was. I had poker straight hair as well but now there is some curl to it. I am sort of waiting to see what it's going to do!
-
Beautiful pics of hair. It looks wonderful.
So today I saw the peach fuzz. I am so excited. It was like the first time your baby takes a poop. No one cares, but you got to tell everyone. Of course you need a flashlight to see it, but damn it, it's there.
Was lucky enough to keep most of my eyelashes and brows during chemo, but with only being 3 weeks PFC and having surgery exchange surgery coming up I'm concerned about losing them from anesthesia.
-
Hi again cli1. I think most people don't use Rogaine during chemo but do use it afterwards. I have used Minoxidil, which is equivalent I think, during and after chemo but am not certain that it works. I have a bald spot that I have had since childhood so I am waiting to see if any hair grows there. So far it hasn't.
I have never heard anyone say that biotin should not be mixed with medications. I think most people on this site take it.
Good luck to you!
-
I am now 5 months PFC and last weekend for the first time in months I felt "the wind in my hair". Hair is still really short, but it seems like another small sign of progress. Am happily topless now and have been for a month, but will always have a soft spot in my heart for my wonderful Raquel Welch wig which took me everywhere I needed to go for months.
-
Marjie, I too think we have about the same growth. I did lose my brows and lashes, the brows started coming back in almost immediately, the lashes are still a little sparse, but I have given up on eyeliner. By the end of the day I would look like a racoon when I wore it. Miss Clairol and I have had a couple of afternoon meetings over the last 3 or 4 months and it is about time again. I am not liking the new darker color that I seem to have along with the gray sideburn thing that seems to be going on here. I was one of the October chemo ladies, so I have been done with chemo for 7 months on the 7th of September.
Becca -
thanks a million, racy! have been cautiously trying rosemary and almond oil combined and massaging head-think there's a bit of progress but it's SLOOOOOW-just gotta learn a bitta patience!..good luck to you too-how long past your last chemo are you?
-
cli1, I am 17 weeks pfc and going well.
Ladies, when I was on holidays 1000 miles from home two weeks ago, I did go topless briefly on the beach and just wore a hat during the day.
